Following discharge from a five day stay at Sunrise Hospital for acute pain from spinal & leg…read moreissues, I was transported to this "skilled nursing facility" for care and PT rehab at the recommendation of Judy at Sunrise. Upon arrival at the facility I was taken to a room with a bed which was motorized but wouldn't work and looked decades old with an extremely uncomfortable plastic mattress. The room's furnishings were very dated and the recliner so old my husband covered it in a sheet so it could be more sanitary. The bed, the recliner and the AC unit were all very noisy from age. The room itself had damage on the wall and had the look of a much needed update. Staff was kind and courteous but my husband and I were immediately concerned when we asked if my meds had been acquired as I'd been told they would before I left Sunrise. I was also told that I'd be seen by a doctor they'd assigned to me within 24 hours. As the day progressed and still no meds were there and we realized they were past due and one anti seizure one must not be late, we asked but still they only offered excuses. My husband went home and got my meds there because we couldn't get a straight answer. I was non-ambulatory and used the call button after my husband left for help to my wheelchair to use the bathroom and kept pushing the button and no one came. This went on for half an hour and I finally tried to get to the wheelchair and didn't make it and went down when my left leg gave out. Pain was excruciating and my blood pressure was steadily going up, still no meds. CNA & Nurse were there and tried to help but it was explained to me that the ratio of patient to CNA was 13 to 1 and patient to Nurse ratio was 15 to 1. They had no time to spend with one patient. The next morning my husband came very early and still no meds or visit from the doctor they'd assigned and my blood pressure was so high the CNA couldn't even get a reading on her portable machine. We asked that I be seen by the doctor but were told that would not happen but he was sending his Nurse Practitioner since now my BP was at 191/110. The Nurse Practitioner was very knowledgeable and concerned and ordered an emergency medication to get the BP down quickly . My husband was very upset that we still had no meds nor had I seen a doctor since I was in acute pain and my BP was so high. He started to pack my stuff up and asked to have the resident Case Manager, Melissa Maguire, come to speak with us. She was very helpful and arranged medical transport from the facility to Boulder City hospital (we live in BC) where I was stabilized from the high BP and pain. I never returned to this facility and the lack of proper care is something I'll never forget. They're terribly understaffed and incapable of acute care because although they tell you doctors come each day and the paperwork you receive says you may choose your doctor, when we requested to see the doctor we never did. I asked to change from the unseen doctor Jason Gubler to any who was present and I was told no he was assigned to my care. After perusing his reviews on several websites I should count myself lucky. Don't bring a loved one here if they require acute care nor one who isn't mentally cognitive because they'll suffer the consequences. My family took me home to care for me and we employed Home Health Services and I'm so happy with my progress.

The facility is beautiful in a Tuscan theme. The staff is amazing, they are the nicest empathetic group of people. The food is a good variety. The only qualm I have is my dad isn't able to feed himself and has been going without food. He won't ask for help because he doesn't want to bother anyone. My 92-yearl-old dad stayed and rehabilitated at AHC (Sunset and Jones location) for a couple of…read moremonths. He had suffered stroke-like paralysis on one side for both his arm and leg. We thought his recovery was an extreme longshot at best. However, thanks to the truly superb staff, he was able to slowly but successfully regain his ability to walk as well as a lot of his abilities to be somewhat independent. This would not have been possible without the amazing medical assistants, nurses, physical and occupational therapists, wound care specialists, case managers and even their maintenance man. When dad first arrived, and for most of his stay, he was completely dependent on AHC staff for bathing, toileting, getting food, and all. The staff was so attentive, patient and understanding (he did get grumpy and stubborn at times as he was dealing with a lot of medical issues;-) They never missed a beat and motivated him to keep working hard and improving. Without hesitation, I highly recommend this AHC for rehab. A few names I must recognize: Himani, Jordan (therapists), Mary, Janet and Chanel (the CNA's), Luz the head nurse, her daughter the woundcare specialist (forgot her name:-) and Arnelle the maintenance man. Arnelle didn't even have anything to do with patient care, but he had such a positive, smiling and motivational presence and got to know our dad and kept him smiling and laughing on a daily basis which is hard to do when someone has just lost their independence and is in pain. A huge thank you to the entire team; they are really like a family.

First, I chatted with Nichole, the Business Manager/receptionist, who was as nice as pie and well-versed in the labyrinthine world of insurance. Lindsey was my therapist, and she immediately put me at ease by outlining the game plan for the next few sessions. She presented treatment options with the finesse of a game show host--always giving me the chance to pass on the prizes if they made me uncomfortable. Keep in mind certain PT methods can be a tad painful, but keep going, it will get better!!! After weekly sessions and a mix of in-office wizardry, home exercises, and some diet tweaks (goodbye, junk food; hello, hydration!), my pain has dramatically improved.
