She would push the call button and then he would eventually poke his head in and say "OK" leave and never return. He also didn't want to deal with changing her bed or getting someone to help get her up so he would leave here there. My other issue is with the older woman who works the reception desk on weekends. She is very rude and likes to roll her eyes and sigh at everyone. She doesn't want to do her job of opening the door so she needs to do a different job.

One staff member who I believe said he was the director of something, he came across as completely uninterested and indifferent. I felt like my concerns didn't matter and that I was just another number instead of a family trying to make an important decision for a loved one. I also observed another staff member who was passing out meal trays. She appeared unprofessional and gave the impression that helping residents or interacting respectfully with others wasn't a priority. The overall atmosphere felt cold, unwelcoming, and lacking the compassion I would expect from a place caring for vulnerable people. Choosing a nursing home is one of the most important decisions a family can make. I was looking for kindness, professionalism, and genuine concern for residents and their families. Unfortunately, my experience didn't reflect those qualities, so I chose to continue my search elsewhere.

The staff are not trained properly, leading to mistakes that are then blamed on the nursing staff instead of the people who should be ensuring proper training. I witnessed several baby CNAs get reprimanded for things they did not know against facility policy. I also saw that after people were reprimanded, no action was taken to retrain, reteach, or educate. I would not recommend working there, sending a family member there, or associating at all with this facility. Quite literally run away!

Those folks were, and I assume, still are the cream of the crop for care giving. However, this review is about the Independent Living communications! On Saturday August 15, 2020 my air conditioner failed at 8:00 p.m. I called the Concierge. I was expecting it would be Sunday before anyone came to look and/or repair the A/C this this was a weekend and not a normal workday. Within 15 minutes the Concierge had contacted the Director of Environmental Services and informed me the Contractor for A/C would be arriving within the hour. By 9:00 p.m. the Contractor was at my door. At 10:00 p.m or two hours after the first phone call to the Concierge, the A/C was working. On Monday morning I was able to personally thank the Director of Environment Services and passed a well done to the Concierge. This is normal for Environmental Services! Advance the clock until today, August 18 at 3:15 p.m. the A/C failed again. I walked to the Concierge to report the outage and explained what had happened on Saturday night. I did mention the Concierge Saturday night did call the Director of Environment Services. This being a normal work day and during normal work day I did ask him to put in a work order which is normal procedure. At 6:45 p.m. once my unit hit 80 degrees, I walked to the same Concierge and asked what the Director of Environmental Service said. I was told he, the Concierge had not called him since the Director reads all work order prior to leaving. I asked the Concierge if he planned to call the Director. No, he will read the work order. It is now 7:50 p.m. and 81 degrees. It would appear the Concierge was not able to follow up on my request. Very disappointed. This is not normal customer service from the Hillcrest Grand Lodge Independent Living; however is becoming a pattern for this Concierge. I do still think the Grand Lodge is a wonderful place; however, it might be helpful if key meet and greet persons are trained to a "standardization" level.

This facility was unable to transport our loved one to a doctor's appointment on time they were 30…read moreminutes late getting her there. She had another doctor's appointment the next day and they got her there an hour early but didn't give her medicine to her or feed her breakfast. She had no food or drink that day until 12:15 p.m. She is a dementia patient and was traumatized by her treatment.

My mother was moved here after an emergency at another care facility. She was there for several…read moremonths and passed away there. This facility may appear to be an older design, but it is an amazing place. The staff cares deeply for each of the residents. Many have worked here for years. The leadership is very involved. During a recent flu/cold outbreak, I saw all the leaders working with residents, staying nights and on weekends taking care of residents and supporting family members. Over the days that my mother was dying, their kindness and concern for her and for my family was so amazing. I will never forget how they eased the experience of losing our mother for us all. I would highly recommend them to anyone. It's a great place and most importantly, they actually care!
