It used to be a great place. Now it's become known more for poor outcomes and care experiences…read more Staffing shortages are terrible, my uncle was there for rehab and would sometimes go 8-9 hours without seeing a nurse.

My wife had an unusual experience during a recent stay at the United Methodist Hilltop Campus. She…read morehad had a hip fracture while out of town and stayed 2 weeks at a Transitional Care Unit there. When she was strong enough to travel, she transfered to Hilltop to finish rehab, sufficient to return home and transition to in-home care. Initially her experience was fine and she felt fortunate for her treatment, especially the therapy .And, during the Labor-day holiday when the skeleton crew of aids were generally inattentive, she felt confident while taking care of her toilet and personal needs, getting out of and back into bed and using a walker to get to the bathroom without aid. Her recovery was confirmed 3 days later when her Orthopedic Surgeon said that she was cleared to put full weight on her mending hip AND GO HOME. Everyone told her she was progressing fine so she fully expected to depart there for home the following day but the social services person told her she must wait for the facilities doctor to"release" her that morning..We gathered her belongings and waited for the doctor to arrive but by noon, when ,we inquired, we were told that the doctor would not be in for 3 or 4 days. My wife told the social services person that she was anxious to go home now, but that person was opposed because she said their therapist did not approve. Fully frustrated, my wife said that she was not going to stay. Thereupon the social services person said that she MUST sign a release stating that she was departing without approval and, consequentially their facility has no LIABILITY. I advised my wife not to sign their form but, now fully frustrated, she agreed. I added a note praising the care she received and she signed. Thereafter the social services person told her that Hilltop will not refer her for in-home care and, basically, would not provide any further support. She added "don't ever come back for any reason". As we left in our wheel chair my wife was very visibly upset. Once we got home I asked my wife which of her medications (she's a heart/lung patient) she had been given today but she could not remember. So I called Hilltop and asked the male person who answered the care unit phone which medications she had been given and what medications were due today. He responded that they would not give my wife that information nor provide any further assistance whatever, that she should consult her "community doctor". I find that response cruel, spiteful and totally inconsistent with the Methodist principles as I understand them,AND POSSIBLY CRIMINAL. But Hilltop probably has nothing to fear because they have a form stating that they are not liable.
