They would sell more if they lowered their prices to thrift store prices. They would make more money for their mission. The experience with staff and volunteers may be hit or miss. Some of very good. Others not. Several years ago I volunteered regularly and enjoyed both my placement in the back room pricing donations and working on the floor with customers. I have witnessed both the manager being very kind to a person in need and the men working the cash register being rather unfriendly. Back then the paid staff did not appear to have been hired with a nod toward good customer service. I doubt if the hiring practices have changed based on a recent visit. While shopping, I ended up helping an older gentleman because the person at the counter was unnecessarily curt when asked a simple question like where-would-I-find-a- book? One assumes the staff member's mannerisms toward this older gentleman had nothing to do with race, as they were both older men of the same ethnic background. It just is what it is. One can't be overly sensitive when shopping at the Thrift House. I am surprised to read that a service dog was not welcomed, but the writer of that review failed to clarify if the dog was a trained service dog with documentation and whether or not the dog was wearing a vest. Even I would be surprised if the dog was turned away in those circumstances. When donating, be aware that donations coming from households with cats are discarded, per the manager, who appears to have a personal dislike of those furry creatures. (Cat hair is the dead give away, so wash anything well before donating if you have a cat.) I don't go to thrift shops often, but when I do, I start at the Thrift House. I also donate there. Normally, the staff is not overly fussy, just not welcoming, and the finds are worth any rudeness one might experience.

Second Life was an essential to me: I found Cole Hahn and AVL leather flats (almost unworn), numerous silk blouses (Marchesa Voyage, Annie Griffin), two silk skirts (one bespoke, the other from Anthropologie), dresses, jackets, a string of cultured pearls, Chicos and Eileen Fisher trousers - oh, and my last trip there, I actually scanned the books, and the selection is equally good there. Prices are higher than your average thrift, but, as you can see, so is the merchandise. It's always fair, and they run sales on the regular. I've been inspired to start putting aside some of my almost unworn or lightly worn clothes so that I can contribute to this community treasure, and keep the cycle going. Goodwill could sell a lot more if they lowered their prices a little on items that are way over priced. So we said ok and waited in the parking lot to wait until she was off of her lunch break, but she then interrupted her lunch break to come outside to tell us we couldn't stay in the parking lot while she was on her lunch break. It's a large open space (think warehouse) with racks on racks on racks of items. Upon entry, I was immediately overwhelmed and considered leaving. I'm glad I pushed thru the desire to run away. To make it manageable for my brain, I decided to just tour the store to see what was in there and then lock in on one item (women's dresses and skirts) I would look through. I left with four unique clothing items for $18 and some change. Two of the items I purchased had blue price tags and blue was one of the colors of the day that was 50% off. However, I learned that if I shopped on a different day, the items with those color cards would've just been $.99 a piece, so I could've gotten out of there with the same items for even cheaper on the right day. Sort of like any store, at the checkout lane, there is shelving with small items you could grab. Many of those things were like party decorations that were unopened and brand new in the package.
