The Goodwill Reading Outlets are definately worth a one time-must see for yourself adventure. Unless your like me, a glutton for punishment, a person that can't get enough while knowing it can be bad for my health, haha, then stay away! On the other hand, if you love a treasure hunt but know that you must resist punching someone's lights out while searching for it,,then I highly recommend this place! lol In all seriousness, I still consider this outlet center a great place to score. Unfortunately, however, it is not located in the best demographic and it is certainly not a hidden gem. The overall culture can get quite aggressive. Considering they got this stuff for FREE coupled with the fact that if unsold this stuff is about to go to the landfill, I personally find the prices to be a bit ridiculous. Another issue here is that they over stuff the bins making it nearly impossible to sift through unless you are the hulk. Also, can we rotate the bins with a bit more frequency? Recently while vising a friend in her neck of the woods she introduced me to the Goodwill in her area. It's an outlet - which is very different than the retail store. We have an outlet in Lancaster which I visit often and thought ours was one of a kind. I found it unusual that there also wasn't a retail store attached or nearby but was excited never the less. The parking lot is undersized and parking was kinda of a hot mess. With no available spots and no street parking we ended up parking where they have the tractor trailers lined up for donations. This made me a little anxious as I wasn't sure parking here was even ok but my friend assured me it was fine. When we left other shoppers have taken my lead and also parked in that area. The inside is huge, much larger than the outlet I visit filled with bins and bins of unwanted items that didn't make the cut to the retail stores. A smaller room contained a few bins as well as shelves of glassware and there was an area dedicated to furniture although I didn't see any that I'd consider a bargain. If you're unfamiliar with the difference between a Goodwill outlet and a retail store it's best to educate yourself so you're not disappointed. The outlets consist of all the items Goodwill doesn't sell, couldn't sell, is off season, or have an abundance of. Everything is placed in large commercial bins (like industrial laundry bins) on wheels and you sort through and pay per pound. Clothes/housewares are one price, and glassware is another (and cheaper per pound). There's no rhythm or reason to the bins and you may need to sort through a lot of junk to find a piece worthy to purchase. But if you're like me and love a bargain and aren't afraid to "work" for it you'll enjoy the hunt. Some things to know: allow yourself enough time, as it's a time consuming process, wear gloves as many of the items are nasty, bring your own bags as they don't provide any. While the Lancaster location is smaller I think it carries better stuff, but since inventory is constantly changing it could just be that what I was hunting for wasn't there that day. In contrast in Lancaster when new bins roll out it's a free for all and you're allowed to dive right in. This location does a show and dance and teases you with rows of new bins covered with sheets and you're only allowed to rummage once they say so. Meanwhile people line up to secure their place in front. Be prepared to grab a cart upon entry as this location is also short of carts and we had to go back a second time till we finally secured one. Also be prepared to grab something if it even slightly interests you. Dealers come here and buy mounds of clothes for resale, often shipping them to the Caribbean or to fancy vintage shops in NYC. It's not the cleanest of places nor attracts the best clientele and people can be rude. You can't try anything on, but if you like it, it's worth the gamble as it's literally pennies per piece when you buy clothing per pound. It's also best to leave the kids at home. Bottom barrel merchandise by the pound! Its hit or miss when you come here. Most days you'll find nothing but junk, but every now and then you find some treasures. Clothes is different, its also by the pound but there is a way better selection of clothes than there is anything else here. When the help brings out the bins of housewares odds and ends and clothes, most of them have attitudes and talk down to everyone warning them NOT TO TOUCH ANYTHING until they say "ok", and when they do say "ok" its like a running of the bulls! Everyone freaks out running and sifting through the bins of mostly old dirty garage stored garbage, risking getting stuck with assorted sharp objects thrown in the bins, like knives, broken sharp objects and corroded utensils! There are some good finds if you wear gloves, fight through the crowds and quickly grab what you want before someone sees that you want it and then they decide that they now want that item and grab it before you do! Fred Sanford would love this place! Its best to come here on week days because then its not that crowded. Weekends are when you'll see "The Madness". Hoards of people aggressively rummaging through the bins like rabid animals! read more

So... yeah! WOW! Things HAVE been changing and not for the better as another reviewer wrote! I wasn't aware that these are NY ers coming down for stuff! The place gets mobbed! Now I see them eating and setting up shop in a corner or on the furniture in the back. Last week a lady brought boxes and boxes of pizza in! For Pete's Sake! They make a whole day out of this! And when the bins come out they attack them and push ppl out of there way... SERIOUSLY! It feels dangerous anymore....I hope they get this situation under control and quickly... read more

Great store. Pretty large size with multiple rows of bins of inventory. Usually not too crazy busy and checkout lines are fast. Employees are helpful and kind. Clean place. I've found great stuff here including top name brands like Burberry, Timberland, Nike and much more. Your able to find great stuff if your able to spend a few hours and dig to the bottom of the bins. Don't be afraid to dive in. read more

It is kind of fun to treasure hunt. I found some cute and cheap things. If you are pressed for time or a germ-a-phobe, stay away! I give it a medium rating due to the large groups of non-English speakers who push and reach right in front of you and generally are just rude. Employees do not seem to care. This is not a store where civilized people would shop. Many shoppers have no manners , disregard rules, and teach their children to do the same! Maybe you should run a class prior to shopping to teach basic common courtesy , sharing with others and the consequences for behaving badly! read more

BEWARE!!! I come here maybe once a month with my girlfriend who goes there to pick up old clothes for some of her projects , she likes to redesign vintage clothing. I was always under the presumption that Goodwill was for people less fortunate/people who like old vintage clothes or someone looking for some cheap cool old antiques. Boy have times changed. This particular location is a zoo! There are no racks of clothing , instead there are huge bins filled with clothes in no particular order. Just bins and bins and bins , the prices are per pound not per item. Go here on a weekend and you got the thrift shop owners from New York City who come down here in teams of vans who use Goodwill as inventory. Literally , there are 10 of them with shopping carts who travel in teams grabbing virtually ANYTHING and EVERYTHING!! Their carts are literally 4-5 feet high. They camp out hours before the store opens and attack any regular customers! Not to mention on any given day , you can partake in a nice game of tag with the overload of unsupervised children. This place is cool if you go on a Tuesday around 7 when its empty , but beware the NYC crew may be lurking! Oh yeah , be prepared to wait 20 minutes to check out when its busy , there is only 1 lady working the checkout! Its not the same Goodwill everybody expects! read more

I absolutely het this place it is not there things they sell it is there worker. I went in the store with my mom and I was looking at the shoes. So I tried them on and they were amazing I feel in love remember this they were on the rack where all the other shoes where. So then when my mom and I went to go look at other things this lady comes out of nowhere (a worker). Takes the shoes from my hands and said "why did you steel these shoes". I was so in shock they were with all the other shoes and no one touched them.so this lady calls the security and says"officer this young lady is trying the steel these shoes". My reaction was we were still is the store and I was not hiding them they were in my hands I am a size 9 like really lady.so the officer comes back 10 minutes later and says to the lady I am sorry but you are wrong this girl was just looking at the shoes and acting like normal customer. Like really worst experience ever and I went there again to donate something I rang the bell the same lady that said I stole the shoes said "hey what the hell are you doing it is in here dumbo". I was about really to whip her like really why would you do that and say that to a customer I never did anything to her. read more
