I really enjoyed not only meeting, but hearing what founder Fran had to say about her original plans for her non profit organization (which grew tremendously over the last few years), as well as their mission, and how the process exactly works. She told touching stories of those she has helped and it really inspired me to do more! I really liked knowing that our time was really needed and our donations were headed to the appropriate places. I love the fact that The Mitzvah Circle creates individualized care packages. They aim to satisfy the personal needs of each and every family/person on a one on one basis. Whether it's school supplies, outerwear, educational toys, pajamas, or sturdy shoes, they will do their best to send seasonal, correctly sized items with each package their volunteers create and deliver. They have many ways you can help... -Donating very gently used items on weekdays. Their motto for donating clothes is "if you wouldn't put it on your child or wear it, don't send it". They noted the item we bag up and send may be the nicest article of clothing they have. Good to keep in mind. It definitely makes this Mama feel a lot better about some of those pricier items we part with. They accept all sizes, all season, all genders. Shoes are definitely an item they don't have enough of! Send 'em!They ask that you call or email before dropping off so they can be sure someone can help you unload your goods. They did say email is the fastest method of communication. -Donating a monetary gift through their site. That money will be used to purchase diapers and baby soap. (They are the ONLY organization which provides diapers to families in neeed! They also send out 500 bottle of baby soap every 2 weeks!) -Volunteer. There are many days to lend a hand. I posted a photo of upcoming available dates of service. Often groups, schools and business come together and select a day to help out too! Contact them if you think you may have a larger group interested in helping out! Volunteering was rewarding and easy. They are a very organized and well oiled machine. My children ages 5&7 had no issues helping out. They really enjoyed bagging the 5 toiletry items as well seeing how fast they could help us separate the garments by size into appropriate bins. Everything was explained well and we accomplished a great deal in our 3 hour slot. I've already been bagging up some goods to take up there. If you are looking to give a bit more in whatever way you can this year, I couldn't recommend this organization any more! Every ReStore will be a little different as its inventory is dependent upon its community donations, but the general store model is to have dedicated ongoing Home Depot clearance section for a good portion of the store. The Phoenixville store, like others, will be hit or miss on what you need. Yesterday I needed prehung exterior doors. Called ahead and they claimed to have some, but they had zero. I took a pretty thorough look around and posted a lot of photos. I bought some small items for an art project but otherwise it was wasted gas based on them claiming they had what they didn't have. Good cause, and if you are remodeling one room, or trying to fix or replace something in your home, you will probably have good luck here (or at another nearby location), but if you own a rental property, have new construction, are doing a major reno, etc. and need bulk stuff, you will be out of luck. Flooring and tile are in "leftovers" batches of one or two rooms worth, if that. If you check these stores' social media, you will see new arrivals if a supplier donated a larger quantity, but if you have a time limit on your job, you can't rely on them to have something in stock as you need it. I couldn't even get a door, which they claimed to have, so take phone calls with a grain of salt. Prices are okay, not amazing. The 5-gallon paint at this store is $75, while same stuff at the West Norriton store is $90, so watch out among stores.

Made a usual donation today and went in the store for the first time ever. Odd that I've been to a…read moremillion Goodwill stores and I'd never been in the one closest to me, where I donate multiple times per year. THE DL: Large enough store but not nearly the size of others in the greater area. Organized departments, but I didn't like that toys had a small section in back, and then most were scattered around on shelves between clothing racks. To browse toys you had to walk all the clothing aisles and kids can't even see them. Fewer junk-grade housewares than other local stores I've recently visited, but nothing spectacular. Lots of Pyrex to replace baking needs, cool vintage stainless steel pans, and other tried/true kitchen and dining brands. Relatively large book and DVD section. I found 3 DVDs for entertainment. Also got 4 kid books, and was impressed at the authors/titles, no junk books spun off of movie/TV characters, or written by Bravo idiots. I wanted a nice garden book but the only one I saw I already have. I was able to get a couple replacement plates for my exact Pfaltzgraff everyday stoneware, and saw the Dollar Tree mock-Fiesta plates I had many moons ago before the real McCoy (which broke enough times over the years I wish I'd just kept the DT version). Anyway, just illustrating the hit-or-miss-ness and nostalgic practical finds today. MY OP-ED: There were a LOT of people in there. Pickers were territorial and impolite. They staked out a section and their desperation was felt through their unwillingness to say "excuse me," or move aside to let a cart pass, or allow anyone to look in "their" current browsing section. Even the staff had to take pains to get around them. When new items were brought out, the regulars flocked to them and were almost as bad as the hags at the Lilly Pulitzer warehouse sales I attended years ago. Ha ha, speaking of Lilly, the non-picker clients were locals and I saw several wearing Lilly today. At least they're not too bougie for thrifting! (I used to wear Lilly in my 20s until a therapist in Merion once said to me, "Why do grown women choose to dress like little girls?" Mean but true.) I haven't thrifted in a while but have had two bouts of thrifting this year to teach my son not everything needs to be new, and to instruct him on pocket change/spending. In most stores there is a new phenomenon of greedy energy from the pickers who watch YouTube and think they know what to look for and hope to make a living on eBay. I've sold tons on eBay and used to make a good garage sale of it, but the claims that it can sustain you doing it full time are 100% unrealistic to me from my long and thorough experience. If you live on meager wages, perhaps, but not worth my time to garage sale there anymore. So thrifting is NOT what it used to be; it's super annoying to have everything picked over mostly by Goodwill itself, snagging high value items for Internet sales (every Goodwill store has an eBay account and I've bought from tons of them), but to then have the pickers hovering around housewares, thinking they'll catch a scrap that personnel missed in the back, really ruins the experience. The pickers were there for half my visit and my visit ran long because I truly wanted to browse every department for a decent review and they delayed that. Got out of there spending $43 with useful items but nothing I'd call an amazing deal or very cool find.

The staff has always been kind, helpful and engaging on all my visits. Their pricing is extremely reasonable for so many of the items. I don't think I've thought twice about an item here due to their price. This is always a thrift location I like to visit.
