This was one of those lunches that quietly hits all the notes. Let's start with the soda bread: perfectly dense without being dry, with a satisfying crunch to the crust. The dried cranberries and raisins added just the right touch of sweetness. Delicious on its own, but even better dipped into the stew-highly recommend doing both. The salad was a fresh spring mix with multiple dressing options. Fruit was also offered, which was a nice touch, though I passed this time. Now for the star of the meal: Irish stew (Stobhach Gaelach). This version was made with beef rather than lamb or mutton, and it worked beautifully. The meat was fall-apart tender, surrounded by classic root vegetables-carrots, potatoes, leeks, parsnips, celery, and onions. The broth carried a gentle black-pepper heat that lingered just enough while staying well balanced. Portion sizes were spot on, not skimpy, not overwhelming, and I walked away comfortably full and very satisfied. Free or paying this meal was great, I will be back next year! Bonus - If you arrived early you could watch the soda bread making demonstration and recipes were handed out to those who were interested.
