I showed up unannounced and was out on the water before I knew it. He has a nice selection of the latest model RRD boards and sails to help me get back into sailing after a long snow bound winter in Boston. The location is awesome and its obvious why it is a favorite spot of local sailors. I had great winds, 20+ knots every day I was there in early March. The equipment is stored a few steps from a nice grass rigging area right above the beach. It's a clean, sandy, sheltered beach with minimal shorebreak to deal with and the wind fills in beyond the swimming area. The conditions ranged from flatter closer to the point to bigger swells as you get toward the reefs where there were nice sets of breaking waves. I started out on wide 120l Fire move then moved down to the fast 112l Fire race. The 7.0 RAF sail I used had a lot of speed and power, good range and was easy to waterstart outside in the 5' to 10' swell. Albir was an awesome host - easy going, supportive. The rental rates were also a really great deal. Already looking forward to a return visit!

Juan Carlos Morales, the owner of the school was very accommodating and very professional in setting up my lesson. My lesson started with a thorough but succinct description of wind-theory as well as safety systems and setting up the kite. After learning some supervised basic kite handling skills on the beach, we moved into the water immediately to do some body dragging and some water safety lessons on how to deal with problems in the water and how to re-launch the kite when it falls. Later, we moved on to board skills and getting up on the water and Kiteboarding. I thoroughly enjoyed my lesson and my progress was very quick. Since then, I have been able to handle a lot of situations on my own that I see other beginning kite-boarders struggle with. In addition to my very effective, professional, and efficient lessons, I have since visited San Juan for Kiteboarding many times. Juan Carlos has always been very generous with his Kiteboarding skills and gear advice. He is a distributor of Cabrinha top notch Kiteboarding equipment and after trying a number of other brands and distributors, I now exclusively buy from Juan Carlos Morales with 15knots Kiteboarding. I feel very confident that I get an excellent deal on topnotch equipment. Overall, I have to say it has been a real pleasure working with Juan Carlos. He is a very honest and very nice guy who treats people nicely and with respect. He is first concerned about taking good care of his students, assuring their safety, expediting their progress, and giving them a great deal. San Juan Puerto Rico is a perfect place to learn Kiteboarding as there are no rocks on the beach and the wind is steady, just strong enough to kiteboard and not super strong and gusty in Maui Hawaii for example where I am visiting right now which can make it tough for beginners to learn safety. I recommend 15knots Kiteboarding without reservation and believe it is one of the absolute top places to get Kiteboarding lessons in the world ( I have been to and seen many different schools/kiteboarding spots in the world now). Juan Carlos Morales is one of the absolute nicest, most honest, helpful, trustworthy and generous business owners whom I have ever met and he truly enjoys teaching and accommodating students. His instructors are all excellent, experienced, and carefully selected by himself to deliver excellent lessons.

I researched the main areas on the island to do it and chose this area because they tow the kayaks out so you don't have to paddle far. With little kids and doing it late at night, this was a factor for us. It did not regret my choice and this company did a great job! First off, we were late and they waited for us. Our group was 10 people and we headed out. It was a perfect night weather-wise as the sky was a bit cloudy, but you could also see the stars. The cove they take you to is quiet and calm, although there are other groups there. We got 1 hour of total time on the water, so you could split it up however you wanted. We kayaked for about 20 minutes and it was so cool, watching the glow everytime you paddled. There was a corridor leading out of the cove you could paddle to, but we decided not to do it, who knows if it would have been darker out there. We swam for the rest of the time and it did not get old. Splashing around the glow was incredible! You have life jackets on the whole time as it is pretty deep. They gave you drinks on the way back to enjoy!

There is a parking lot nearby, but I highly suggest coming early as the location is a bit hard to find. They do have a restroom in their little shack that you can use before boarding the boat. Our Captain and his nephew (?) were very knowledgeable and kind. He told us not only about the bioluminescent plankton, but some of the history of Puerto Rico as well. As we were on the boat to the bay, he told us about the houses destroyed by the hurricane a few years ago as well as some celebrity homes, like Red Sox baseball player, David Ortiz. When we got to the actual bay, it was completely dark. This is the only location where you can actually swim in the bay. Kayaks, paddles, and a life vest were all provided to us. They also offered us water and soda, which was very nice. They gave us ample time to swim around and even helped everyone get on their kayak. We were in a group of about 10 people so it was not very crowded. The skies were also so dark that you could see the Milky Way. For $75 a person, this was definitely a once in a lifetime experience that picture could not capture!
