It was a last minute cancellation less than 24 hours. I had booked the excursion with Expedia & I know they are extremely strict about cancellation after 24 hour cut off time. Due to not reading the part of the weight restriction until the day of the event, our family would of not been able to go together as a family & Joshua went above & beyond with his expertise & patience to help me get a full refund from Expedia by calling them personally. He knew they would have gave me a difficult time, so he took the time out & called them himself on our behalf. The guide later admitted the mistake and promised management would contact us with a 50% refund, but that never happened. No call. No email. Nothing. We did the 5:30 tour to the bioluminescent lagoon. It was a great tour and the hosts were wonderful. The only criticism I have is that the tour is advertised as suitable for beginners. This would be if they offered more than a perfunctory 2 minutes of instruction. They should take beginners out in the kayaks prior to the tour and show them how to manuver and proper technique. In addition be aware that it is pitch black and your only sense of navigation is the kayak in front of you. Often we found ourselves behind novice kayakers and would collide with them. I booked the bioluminescence tour with them 3 weeks prior. Sometime website will show you booked/call to discuss for a specific slot. Don't loose your hope just yet. Person on the call explained everything in details and was able to help provide a spot on the day I wanted. It was 130 for 2 people- night bioluminescence tour. They ask you to come 15-20 mins prior to the tour start time. "Kayaking Puerto Rico" is the first shop after you enter in the kayak village. Please note that there is no restaurant right next to kayak shops. So if you are in restaurant area, you'll have to drive a bit to reach to kayak village. Restroom are clean but when I visited around 8pm in evening, women's restroom were out of toilet paper. Our tour guides were Miguel, Lauri, Francisco, Bryan. They did a good job. It's little more than a mile of kayaking to the open sea area through a Canal. You come back the same way. All kayak (around 10-12) are asked to follow a line. Max 2 people per kayak. They provide juice, energy bars at the end of tour. Places in the kayak shop to store your valuables. Life jackets provided and they will explain the rules before they start. And the best part, they will click multiple pictures for your family/per kayak at several spots, which is expected to receive in 3-4 days. read more

My wife, two teenage sons (16 yrs, 14 yrs), and I signed up for an 8:30am mini-boat tour during our April 2022 trip to Puerto Rico. After a 15-minute orientation, you are placed on a mini-boat (feel like a sturdy raft with a jet engine). It was a bit choppy on some waves going out to Cayo Icacos from Fajardo (but more smooth on the return). Paola and Matthew were our guides for the morning - they were great. If you enjoy an adrenaline rush from boating on waves, this is the tour for you! The snorkeling just off Cayo Icacos was lovely with a nice view of coral reefs and colorful fish. Relaxing for 30 minutes on the island was nice except for the obnoxiously loud music played by some local visitors on boats. Overall, this was a highlight of the trip for my two teenage sons. My wife and I had sore arms and back after absorbing a few sudden bumps on the waves. But if you seek an active experience, the mini-boat tour is a lot of fun! I'm guessing the bioluminescent tour is much more slow-paced and relaxed. read more

My husband and I were registered with Kayaking Puerto Rico for "Culebra Island Snorkel and Turtle Adventure with Ferry Transport" on November 18, 2024. We arrived at 8:00 AM ready to go. We found our guide and our group and we boarded the crowded ferry. This would be the last time that we saw our guide. The ride to Culebra was about ninety minutes. Forty-five minutes in, an announcement was made by ferry staff. The announcement was made in Spanish but my husband understood enough of it to know that we were going back to the original dock. And we did. Not seeing our guide, I asked ferry staff what was happening. They said that the boat had mechanical problems. Okay. Not Kayaking Puerto Rico's fault. And, although annoying, this is a completely normal glitch in a vacation plan. We boarded a new boat which was twice as fast and far more comfortable than the first and headed, once again, for Culebra. After arriving in Culebra, we searched for our guide. She had told us to "look for the red shirt." We couldn't find her and we had no idea who else, among the many people there, was in our group. Everyone was wandering around not knowing where to go or what to do. Meanwhile gypsy cabs and golf cart drivers were hounding everyone for business. After searching everywhere for the Kayaking Puerto Rico employee in her red shirt, we decided to bail on the whole thing. While in line to buy ferry tickets to leave immediately, we ran into someone who was evidently in our group. He told us that our guide had told him that the tour was cancelled and he was also looking for ferry tickets home. She told one guest? Did she tell more or was it this guy's responsibility to let the whole group know? Knowing that the tour had been cancelled only confirmed that we were right try to get out of there. We bought tickets for the return ferry trip and rode the hour and forty-five minutes back on what everyone referred to as the "slow boat." Kayaking Puerto Rico, what happened? Where did our guide go? Was she even on that second boat or were we on our own? Why would she tell one passenger that the trip was cancelled and no one else? What were we supposed to do once we landed on Culebra with no guide? How and when were we to return? I don't fault you for the boat problems. If a boat is unsafe then we all agree that we need a different plan. But where were you? The least you could have done (truly the least) would have been to be there alongside your guests as things deteriorated. But you disappeared and left us all to fend for ourselves. I texted you at the number provided while this was happening and seven hours later, I still hadn't heard back from you via text. You've had so many opportunities to make things better before I submitted this review and you've ignored each one. I evidently will receive a refund for the excursion. All I can do is make sure that no one else wastes a valuable vacation day in the future, refund or not. This was a terrible experience and they have terrible customer service. Puerto Rico is beautiful so I would skip Kayaking Puerto Rico and choose a tour provider with better reviews and superior customer service. Evidently when they mess up, they quickly refund your money but, unfortunately, it's after they've ruined an entire day of your vacation. read more

The best tours on the island--hands down! The team at KPR was amazing from booking to excursion completion. Their website is easy to navigate and has very clear and comprehensive explanations of all of their available tours. When we arrived for our tour they were ready to greet us, able to store our keys/phones, and provided safety information. They even had a photographer to capture our experience so we didn't have to risk our own devices! We did their Bio Bay Tour and two days ahead of time they messaged us to let us know the plankton wasn't glowing as brightly, offering us opportunities to book a different tour, cancel with full refund, or confirm and receive a discount on our tickets. We decided to confirm and we're so happy we did. Even though the Bioluminescence wasn't super bright, the experience of kayaking through the mangroves in the pitch dark (we did the 8pm tour) and then the stars--I've never seen anything like the sky that night. Our tour guides: Miguel, Paola, Jordan, and David were so knowledgeable, we're able to answer our questions, and educated us on the Bio Bay and some constellations. We really enjoyed our kayaking experience with Kayaking Puerto Rico. This was the perfect ending to the day of exploring on this side of the island. Check in process was easy, they had a tent set up (other companies are set up in the same area - pay attention to names on tents). Once you are checked in you can leave keys/things you don't want to get wet in a box so they can lock it up for you. Our tour included 3 guides (actually a photographer a lead guide and a helper guide). They offered good instruction, so if you're new to kayaking they try to make it simple for you. We then embark single file to head out to a lagoon area where we waited for it to get dark so we could experience Bioluminescence. Bioluminescence is one of planet Earth's best-kept secrets. Tiny organisms make the water glow at night. They found the perfect place to live in the Fajardo Bio Bay. Stir the water of the Bioluminescent Bay and lots of sparkles will activate. Glowing trails will swirl and flow with the water. As it got darker they glow got brighter, tons of fun! Would recommend to anyone that is looking for an adventure that is a little out of the norm. read more

As an avid biology/ecology enthusiast, seeing the bioluminescent bay in Fajardo was a mandatory tour to take while in Puerto Rico. Kayaking Puerto Rico was very responsive and communicative in advance of the tour due to the Hurricane activity in the Atlantic last week (Sep 2023). The tour group consisted of people with varying kayaking abilities which the tour guides prefaced our adventure to have patience. It was amusing to see a dozen kayaks trying to navigate through the mangroves in the dark. People were getting stuck in trees. T-boning other kayaks. The 4 guides were really great at providing instructions and making sure no kayak was left behind. Miguel was the tour lead and was super knowledgeable about the ecosystem and provided a lot of really great information. It was a new moon so the sky was dark enough to show us some planets and constellations. He also has a great sense of humor. I'm horrible with names and wish I could remember all of the guides names- as they deserve credit too (sorry dudes- A+'s for all of you). Next trip I'd love to take the earlier tour that occurs during daylight hours to see the mangrove forests, and I'll bet their tour to El Yunque is also amazing. I'd highly recommend this activity to anyone. It was both mentally and physically stimulating. read more

My group of 5 did the 5:30 pm Bio Bay tour last week, and it was pretty cool. Our instructors were extremely nice and funny, and the experience itself was cool but definitely could use some improvements. Since there were 5 of us, 1 person was left out and she didn't have any kayaking experience so she had to go with the instructor. Of the 2 hours, she didn't paddle even once which I guess was a waste of money for her. Although verbal instruction was given, no instruction was given once in the water. It was very hard to steer through the mangrove especially with very little space in between kayaks and kayaks stopping every few minutes. Once in the bay, there was so much space which was great. Anyways, the pictures online are a bit deceiving since the bay wasn't lit up or anything and you can only see the bioluminescent water if you stroke the water with your hand or paddle. It's extremely hard to take pictures because flash isn't allowed and it's too dark to capture with the light off. The tour company provided pictures but the pictures were extremely low quality so that was pretty useless. At the end, there was a traffic jam at the entrance of the mangrove because 3-4 tour companies ended up together and we were asked to stay in a single line. First of all, we can't even see anything because it's extremely dark. My arms and back were so sore by the end of it all. All in all, I would still recommend. read more

The guides on this trip are so wonderful. They are all very kind and knowledgeable. The tour itself was very enjoyable. The tour consists of traveling by ferry (1 hour each way) and then tracking by bus to two separate islands. At the first, you spend an hour snorkeling. There is an opportunity to have your picture taken and there is lots of interesting wildlife. At the second beach (10 mins away) you have 3 hours to spend doing what we you choose. You finish the tour with 45-60 mins at the ferry where there are gift shops and restaurants. Overall, the experience is worth the money. My reason for giving 4 stars rather than 5 is because I did not realize how little snorkeling there is compared to how much time is spent on the beach. However, the convenience of the experience mixed with the knowledge of the guides made this well worth it. read more

Just wanted to provide an update on my experience with Kayaking Puerto Rico. We are now back home and it has been 5 days since our scheduled Bioluminescent Bay Kayaking tour. The night of our tour the manager came down to the Kayaking PR location to talk to us about our not being able to go on the tour due to a couple of people in our group being over the 240 pound weight limit by 4 and 10 pounds. The important takeaways: 1. Last year someone died on the bioluminescent bay kayaking tour with Kayaking PR. Sending prayers to that person and their family and friends. The manager claimed that this person only weighed 250 pounds. Be weary of doing this tour with this company as their guides are clearly not competent enough to assist someone at that weight if they fall out of the kayak. Their claim is that if the person weighed 10 pounds less, they would've been able to save them - I think any logical human being can realize that this is an incredibly untrue statement. We spoke with every other kayaking company in that kayak village area who were also doing the same exact tour and they do not have a weight limit on their tours and will not make you get on a scale in their office. Kayaking PR will try to convince you that these other companies are simply not following coast guard rules but the reality is that Kayaking PR does not take into account your ability to swim, your fat to muscle ratio or provide equipped or enough guides on the tour to actually be able to help you if you fall out of your kayak. So for your own safety, please be aware of this before booking with Kayaking PR. 2. The manager said that someone with the company would be giving me a call the next day to discuss a potential refund or possibility ti schedule a different tour with them and putting the funds towards that. It has been over 5 days and I still have not received a call from the company to discuss this. I don't expect a call back from them at this point and have filed a claim with my CC company. If the CC companies receive enough complaints from this business, they will eventually stop doing business with them. There were at least 3 other people who were scheduled for the same exact tour with us that ran into the same exact problem with weight and will also be filing claims with their CC company. According to the other kayaking companies in kayak village, this is a regular nightly occurrence at Kayaking PR. 3. I informed the manager that my husband did weigh in at 240 pounds just that very morning, but due to our enjoying food and drink on our vacation that day and his body composition, he was weighing in 4 pounds over the limit. Every normal human being's body weight fluctuates throughout the day. After claiming that his body weight doesn't change after he eats, the manager's suggestion was to make sure you are at least 5-10 pounds under the weight limit going into it to allow for fluctuation or just don't eat that day.... Essentially encouraging anorexia. In the end - only book with Kayaking PR if your entire group is well under the 240 pound limit AND you know how to swim and have experience kayaking in a bay/ocean in case something happens and you capsize because it doesn't sound like the guides come prepared to truly assist you if you do capsize. read more

Managing the group is perhaps the most important skill set of a tour guide, and this company doesn't seem to train good practices in that area. The guides did a poor job of coaching / directing people, and it was a disorganized mess. For example, instead of yelling, "single file" over and over again when there's a pileup in a channel, it would be way more helpful for them to give specific, directed advice to achieve a single file line. A mob of newbies isn't going to be able to execute a strategy when they can't even manage tactics. That said, kayaking in the mangroves and exploring the bioluminescent bay is a cool experience. Though this tour made me frustrated, no one got hurt. I don't think I would do this again with this company, but I don't feel that I wasted my time. read more

We did the biobay and rain forest tour, and had booked Culebra but weather issues caused it to be canceled. The tours were really fun, I would say my only complaint is that we stayed in Old San Juan and it was a 1hr and 20min drive to the rainforest but it took us 3 hours to get there because wr had to pick up a lot of people along the way so it was a bit of a time wasted. We tried to book a private tour but as of 2022 they don't have it available I actually used this company for the Culebra tour 10 years ago and had found them well organized. And I also went to the biobay tour 10 years ago as well with the same company- it seems that the strength of the bioluminescent bay has not fully recovered yet but that is not the fault of the company, it was still very fun read more

Miguel, analise, Francisco and Misael were our tour guides, we had a great time! Very informative and a great exercise. The bioluminescence wasn't as strong as I thought it would be, the chemicals on your hands get into the bay and are harmful to them but it was a great experience and I would definitely recommend doing it. There were a few people in our group that were bumping into the trees and each other, hopefully at least you or your partner know how to kayak, otherwise it could be rough. Kayaking at night is a eerie experience but it should be on your bucket list. Worth the drive, do not get a taxi or Uber, they will not run you back at night. Bring waterproof phone bag/case, it'll be worth it. And a reusable water bottle. Couldn't get pictures because it wasn't that strong, there may be better seasons for it Puerto Rico's ecosystems are amazing and you get to witness several in this cove/bay area. I would recommend doing several tours or spending the day in this area. Thank you for such a great experience! read more

They take the weight restrictions very seriously. Make everyone stand on a scale and weigh in at check on. One person in our group was 4 pounds over the 250 weight limit. Four. Pounds. That's 64 ounces. About the same weight as a 2-liter bottle of soda. While I can appreciate the "dedication" to safety... turning someone away and not offering an option for a refund seems excessive over four pounds. Especially when the combined weight for the two person kayak (or even a single man kayak) was well below the limit. The rest of the group obviously didn't feel comfortable leaving one person behind to sit and wait for 2 hours, so the whole group forfeited their experience. It honestly was embarrassing and humiliating. While it is by no means the company's fault the guest was over the posted weight limit... the approach and communication could have been better executed to prevent such a humiliating and embarrassing experience. The average adult's weight fluctuates up to 5 or 6 pounds per day. That statistic alone should be taken into consideration when allowing guests to join the tour, especially if the combined weight of the passengers does not exceed the overall maximum capacity of the kayak. Literally talking 64 ounces. But I honestly think they would have turned you away if you were 1 pound over. But truly, if they are that worried over 4lbs of one individual (who by the way was an experienced kayaker and athletic despite being "overweight")... it makes me question the integrity of their equipment. If the weight of a 2-liter bottle throws the whole thing off, then maybe it's not something I want to be paddling off into the darkness anyway. read more

This was the highlight to our trip. Sooo much fun. You are the captain of you're own miniboat. This is the only snorkeling company I've ever been with that had a marine biologist as a staff. he is extremely informative and it's obvious he loves his craft. They provide tons of snacks and drinks located in the cooler of each boat. The snorkeling was sooo much fun. They also take you to a really SMALL (and I mean really SMALL) island to hang out at. It's fun to just hang out at the beach or float in the waters. But the best part is driving (or riding) in the boat. You go fast! For about $20/boat, they will take pictures for you. So worth it. I feel like it is never dark enough there though because of all the bright lights from the neighboring city. It was my first time kayaking and think it is a fun hobby now. During our time in San Juan one of our to do adventures was to experience the Bio Bay in Fajardo. We researched several companies and decided to book Kayaking Puerto Rico and we were so glad we did. The booking experience was easy going, friendly and informative. A few days leading to the adventure we contacted by the staff and were kept informed of any changes and updates. We decided to take the shuttle to and from Fajardo which was very convenient despite a few minor hiccups with the scheduled pick-up point. Once in Fajardo we were introduced to the team who was taking us on this adventure. Got our life vest and were given instructions of the trip. It was dark, the local music was flowing and the New Moon was rising which made the journey that more special. The trip to the lagoon was relaxing and romantic. With the sound of the Coqui and the New moon guiding us we made it to the lagoon after 45 minutes or so, where the crew set us up together for some information on the area and the specacle we were about to experience. Since the moon was so bright, we didn't get to see the bio bay at its brightest, but definitely enjoyed the journey and the team. Our guides John, Cristian and Gaby were amazing and super friendly. They made the adventure that more fun! If I had the chance, I would definitely return to do this again in the summer and when the moon is not so bright, I hear that's the best time to see the Bio Bay glow in Blue light! Definitely looking forward to returning to Puerto Rico and enjoying another adventure with Kayaking Puerto Rico in Culebra with the same amazing crew; John, Cristian and Gaby - I'm sure they would make any adventure a blast!! John and Joe are two amazing guides for our mini-boat tour! We had the 9:30 am mini-boat tour, free parking lot, clean restroom, and shower rooms are available in this place, which can keep you clean and dry after you finish your tour. They explained all the details about the tour and the boat before we started, and prepared cold water, juice, and snack for each boat! We first went to a place for snorkeling, then we moved to a nearby beach for a rest, then drove back to the marina. Although the snorkeling spot is very deep in some places, there are many reefs and fish around. For the beach, the water is very clear, and it is very comfortable to stay in the water in this hot weather. Driving the mini-boat is A TON OF FUN, enjoy it a lot and like it more than jetski (mini boat is more stable and cheaper). read more

We booked a bio bay tour for 6:15 after being shafted by another company in La Parguera. The employee was very patient and helpful answering my questions when I called. When we arrived, the staff were all very friendly and personable. We had Miguel as a guide and he was the best! Brian, Isa, and Francisco were also great! We had an awesome time watching the bio luminescence and even got a lesson on the constellations. Miguel let us have 15 minutes of free time before heading back. read more
