For those of you interested in learning how to surf while in PR, I suggest going to Hector. He is hands down the best instructor. He not only teaches you about the currents/waves so that you can have a strong foundation but he is also there every step of the way. I had such a great time learning from him and on my last day he took me to La Silva a beautiful secluded beach with the rainforest as the backdrop. It was really a unique experience. We hiked down with surf boards about a 1.5 mile walk through beautiful greenery and ended up at this beautiful beach with perfect size waves and crystal clear water! To end every surf session on a cool note, Hector always had fresh coconuts at hand! Hector is the best.

I had such a wonderful time with Hector and Pine Grove Surf Club! I didn't plan in advance and booked a paddle boarding class the night before the activity. Hector texted me the next morning, he was very flexible and patient. I ended up doing both paddle boarding and surfing class in one afternoon. Hector took me to this beautiful mangrove that's a true hidden gem. It was beautiful, tranquil and peaceful. After paddle boarding, we stopped for smoothie and some snacks (I really can't remember their names but they are local and yummy!) Given my great time with paddle boarding, I asked Hector to give me a private surfing class. Even though the waves were a bit small in the late afternoon, Hector was patient, encouraging and extremely knowledgeable. All of this for a super reasonable price! To make it even better, Hector is a really good photographer and took great photos of me throughout the day. If you are looking for a more local and personable experience and have loads of fun, Pine Grove Surf Club is the way to go. Thank you Hector, thought I'd give you a big shout out on Yelp!

My husband and two boys ages 15 and 21 booked snorkeling with Hector today. Hector picked us up from our hotel, La Concha Marriott, and drove us to the beach where they work from. They supplied us with the equipment and showed us how to snorkel properly. I held on to the end of a boogie board while Hectors brother guided me over the reef. I kicked my fins to help him but I wasn't tired at all. The coral reef was beautiful. I have never seen such large coral and the fish weren't huge but there were many. Hectors brother picked up sea cucumber, urchins and this other creepy crawly thing for me to hold. When we finished snorkeling we were treated to a cold coconut which was a first for all of us. Then we showered and he took us back to our hotel. But first he took a side tour and showed us the beach town where he grew up. We also stopped at a roadside stand and he treated us to fresh fruit smoothies and a fried crab dish. This was authentic and this area was not touristy. It was awesome. If we are ever in Puerto Rico we will visit Pine Grove Surfing Club again!!

I even got a free coco frio afterwards.

Pro tip: when you're in Puerto Rico, don't waste your money on the pre-fab tours offered through your hotel concierge. Give these guys a call if you want to learn to surf, go snorkeling, or rent some equipment. They're locals who know the area and charge a fair price for excellent service. You work hard for your vacation money, spend it wisely with family-owned businesses like these. Hector picked me up from a local hotel and drove me to the beach, where Rauli showed me the basics and got me in the water. I've never surfed before and I was riding waves just a few minutes into the session. These dudes know their stuff and will show you a good time. Give them a call.

Beginners to advance levels PGSC is your spot for your surfing rental needs. Customer Service world class just like this surfing location. Pine Grove Beach has the best sandy breaks in P.R. PGSC is affordable, knowledgeable staff on the surfing fundamentals, and they really treat you like family from hello. A must do. I had a great time.

I showed up unannounced and was out on the water before I knew it. He has a nice selection of the latest model RRD boards and sails to help me get back into sailing after a long snow bound winter in Boston. The location is awesome and its obvious why it is a favorite spot of local sailors. I had great winds, 20+ knots every day I was there in early March. The equipment is stored a few steps from a nice grass rigging area right above the beach. It's a clean, sandy, sheltered beach with minimal shorebreak to deal with and the wind fills in beyond the swimming area. The conditions ranged from flatter closer to the point to bigger swells as you get toward the reefs where there were nice sets of breaking waves. I started out on wide 120l Fire move then moved down to the fast 112l Fire race. The 7.0 RAF sail I used had a lot of speed and power, good range and was easy to waterstart outside in the 5' to 10' swell. Albir was an awesome host - easy going, supportive. The rental rates were also a really great deal. Already looking forward to a return visit!

It's an easy way to spend a day in the sun without breaking the bank. The only hiccup was during check-in. I was told to head to the back for the "dos and don'ts" of snorkeling, but when I found the staff member, he just said, "yeah, you snorkel on the other side of the bay," and pointed behind him. No safety rundown, no directions, nothing. I ended up going back inside, and thankfully another staff member stepped in and got me set up properly. Once I was out in the water, though, it was beautiful -- calm, clear, and full of marine life. Overall, a great experience with just a small bump in the beginning. I'd definitely return.

They ask that you arrive about 15 minutes early, and when we got there, most of the staff greeted us inside the storefront before directing us out back to the kayaking area. For belongings, they give you two options: you can pay $5 for a locker with a key, or you can leave your things in the storage bins out back where someone is always present. I wasn't completely comfortable with the bins, but the staff reassured me that nothing had ever happened to guests' belongings. I decided to take the chance, left my bag there with cash inside, and thankfully, everything was safe and untouched when we returned. Our instructor was Kyler and he was amazing. He was patient, informative, and honestly did most of the work steering our kayak since my daughter kept getting frustrated and turning us in the wrong direction. Kyler shared a lot of history about the Condado Lagoon, pointing out landmarks, statues, and explaining the local marine life--what's there, what isn't, and why motorboats aren't allowed. The way back was more challenging because of the wind, so this time it was up to us to paddle. I ended up doing most of it (patting myself on the back here), and by the time we finished, I was completely soaked from the back--no idea how that happened, but it was all part of the adventure. We wrapped up after about an hour, grabbed our belongings, and everything was still there. Overall, it was such a fun and memorable experience for both my daughter and I.

Freddy was phenomenal, patient, safety conscious and a great teacher. After going over how to rig the kite, KitesurfPR takes you straight into the water, which I definitely prefer to extensive land lessons. Freddy showed me how to power up and steer the kite while body-dragging, make basic maneuvers, and also how to self-water rescue if anything were to happen with the gear, etc. I am going to need more than three hours of lessons to ride and maneuver with any confidence, and would love to take more with KitesurfPR. Unfortunately I was only on vacation in Puerto Rico and don't live there permanently. I think six hours over a couple of days would have been great for me, in terms of getting to a point where I can continue practicing without instruction. Even though the kite I was using was literally brand new and I had a one-on-one lesson with a very competent teacher, the prices for lessons were far cheaper than places on the mainland, at least compared to the mid-Atlantic area. Five stars, and I'll definitely be a returning customer when I make it back to Puerto Rico.
