I was surprised by the overall rating for this place. We love coming here because the food is consistently fresh and delicious. The pricing is reasonable, they have a large menu selection, the staff is always friendly, the interior is always very clean. Parking is convenient with picnic tables off to the side. Only set back I see is that they only accept cash or Venmo. But it seems like a lot of smaller businesses that are only open seasonally are like that. Gooseboro just re-opened for the season last week, and it's a delight to welcome them back. We journeyed there last night for some snacks and came away pleased and satisfied. We don't eat many hot dogs, but these Hummel dogs are tasty, and the relish makes an excellent topping. Otherwise it's cheesy fries (nothing healthy about this meal), a milkshake and a cheeseburger. We loved it, but we also decided to not count calories and carbs for this evening. Gooseboro is a cash-only, outside dining-only (picnic tables), so bear that in mind if you carry only credit cards or if it's raining). Nice kids behind the counter and quick service. Gooseboro Drive-In is an Old School roadside Hot dog stand. Dropped in for a quick lunch the other day, I ordered a Long dog & a cheeseburger. I believe the hot dogs they serve at Gooseboro are Hummel Brothers, at any rate, I enjoyed my Long dog immensely. Topped it off with some hot chopped peppers, sauerkraut & spicy mustard, it really hit the spot. The cheeseburger, on the other hand, was underwhelming. Was just "OK", I kinda wished I had ordered another Long dog instead. Or maybe put some of the hot chopped peppers on that cheeseburger for flavor ? I know I'll be back though, I drive by there at least four times a week in the early afternoons. And if I'm ever with my wife, she'll want to stop for one of their milkshakes. A solid 4 Star Rating (seems to be in line with my fellow Yelpers). read more

Disappointed, I try to eat it independent drive in places when possible, we have lost many of them, especially in the last few years so I try to support the ones that are still around, I know Connecticut is a tough business environment and things are expensive, but I expect the food to be very good if I'm going to spend a lot of money, ordered a long dog and an onion ring, it took quite a while to get my order, but I understand that when things are cooked to order It takes a little time, but when I got the hotdog, it was not thoroughly cooked. It was almost cold in the middle and the onion rings seemed to be about the same quality as Burger King. I see the goose Burrow has lots of great reviews, so I'm sure they're doing something right maybe I just hit a bad day, but I'm not sure I would risk it again. I gave three stars because I do not want to trash a place having only had one experience there. read more

Gooseboro Drive-In was a place that I've driven by countless times but never stopped until this evening. We wanted something quick and that wouldn't take forever to make as our toddler was quite hungry. Service is inside at the counter and you can take your food to go or sit outside on one of their many picnic tables-which are well maintained. They have s good selection on their menu, pretty much something for everyone. Their chocolate milkshake was a 5 stars as well as their hotdog! The fries were just eh, nothing great. We will definitely be back on our next hike up to Mnt. Tom a local state park. read more

And no doubt, you've seen its logo of a long necked goose wearing a chef's hat lovingly carrying a hot dog in it its wings. Welcome to the Gooseboro Drive-In. It's not a drive-in in the literal sense, but think of it as a roadside stop for ten burger variations, seven different hot dogs, plus sandwiches, fried goodies like chicken, fish, seafood, rings, and fries. Oh, and for dessert you can treat yourself to soft serve, sundaes and flurries. Gooseboro dates way back to 1961 and the small soft serve cone I enjoyed yesterday seemed to have been priced from one of its past decades. How about $2.30 for a cone? I went the big spender route and added on chocolate sprinkles for sixty cents. By the way, the sprinkles were GREAT! Soft and super chocolatey. Not like the gravel you get once in a while. You won't find any indoor seating, but who needs that when you can grab a seat at one of their many picnic tables on the lawn, and do some people watching and car watching as they zoom by on Route 202. They're open on a seasonal basis from March to November, and they have a Facebook page that acts as their website. so me and my wife stop here to get something quick to eat girl at the register was rude we got two cheeseburgers and and drink small asked for lettuce and tomato she told us that they come plan when we got the food it was nasty Walmart has better burgers than this. Gooseboro is so cute, it's an institution! (Not that all institutions are cute, but whatever...) It's cash only, a little drive in like you now see in the movies. The food is grill food - burgers, fries, sausage, I even saw mac and cheese on the menu last time I went in. They also have ice cream which hits the spot just right on a hot day. The prices are pretty reasonable, and the grounds are perfect for bringing the doggy with. They have a few picnic tables on the grass, all kindly placed beneath shady trees. My dog had a ball roaming around before our food, sniffing under every table. However, they are very well maintained (by polite customers or staff on top of it, I'm not sure which) and there was no stray trash for him to get into. It's his favorite restaurant. read more

So, we spent just under $20 for two burgers, no cheese, split an order of french fries and 1 drink. And the burgers were small and clearly frozen. Although, they were way overpriced and a small portion, the fries were pretty tasty. The picnic tables outdoors with a grassy area were also a plus. One thing that I would certainly not suggest ordering here is "ice cream", which is run of the mill, low quality soft-serve. Took my daughter to lunch there today and was a little shocked at how expensive it was these days. I ordered the double cheeseburger which was $6.95. I thought it would be good for that price. When it came out it was the standard frozen patties you get at any dive and it came with the bun, burger and cheese and nothing else. I asked about lettuce and tomato and they said that was an extra $.60 even though they show a picture on the wall next to the price that lists and shows this and more on the burger. The girl said thats only on our "Famous Burger". My daughter ordered the veggie burger which came with lettuce and tomato but she didn't want it. When I suggested that they just put hers on mine the girl said "That burger doesn't come with that", and insisted on $.60. $7.55 for a frozen fast food hamburger. I would suggest heading a little farther south to Clamps. Still a frozen burger but half the price. read more

Well I've finally had a chance to make a Yelp account and I couldn't think of a better review to start with than one of my childhood favorites: Gooseboro drive-in! Life is busy, busy, busy, but now I can get to it! One of the most special treats my brothers and I would look forward to was a trip to Gooseboro with Mom, Dad, our Grandparents or whatever set of friend's parents would bring us! Between the awesome food and the places to play in the nearby woods and camping area we were in Heaven! Now I bring my pack of Wildlings there and it's like re-living my childhood through their eyes...and stomachs! I'm happy to say that the food is still enjoyable, still fast food/burger joint fare- but a step up from the others in the area. The kids like the ice cream so that's a plus as well, taking care of meals and desert in one stop. The young waitstaff could be a little more attentive and knowledgeable about the menu, but hey I was a kid once to and had other things on my mind! Overall a wonderful experience every time we go and I highly recommend it! read more

What a cool place this is. The hot dog is quite good, but not great. My dining partner got the one with relish, kraut, and a pickle. Get a dog if you're coming through the area. The burger is also quite good. The patty itself is nothing to take seriously, but the bun was perfectly toasted and the thing was loaded with lettuce, pickle, tomato, tons of onion and special sauce. Went to Gooseboro with a group of five people, we all had service dogs, when two peplo went in to order, they were told repeatedly to leave, even after stating they were clearly vested well behaved service dogs. Was told to order but to wait outside. This clearly goes against ADA guidelines regarding service dogs, the manager stated that it was in regards to Covid regulations, (dogs don't count in the amount of people allowed nor do the require masks, also as a note neither the manager nor the two girls working behind the counter were masked or gloved! As there were a minimum of 10 people inside, that does not allow 6 foot social distancing. so if you have a service dog be prepared to be told to leave, or be forced to wait outside for your order. I will not recommend Gooseboro to anyone with a service dog. Very disheartening that a business would be that rude to people with service dogs read more

Like the other reviewer.. nothing too special. The two us decided to order a hamburger, hot dog, and fries. Seeing the sign for the hot dog and hearing about the special toppings made it sound great. The burger was an average burger- until we were charged for toppings for basic hamburger accessories such as pickle, and lettuce. Discovered this place in late fall of 2018 while taking a ride on route 202. They close for the winter season. I have visited regularly during the open season since then. On my last visit in early September, I decided to break from the usual hamburger or hotdog platter and ordered fish and chips. The batter on the fish was not completely cooked (crunchy on the outside, doughy underneath). However, the hamburgers and hotdogs are always excellent --- good sized portions and reasonably priced. Visit was at lunchtime, and despite six people in line ahead of me with large orders, the line moved fast and the wait time after placing my order was not long. There are picnic tables located on the lawn to the left and right of the building all placed in a well shaded area. Parking can be a bit tight during busy hours, but not impossible. Only downside is they don't accept cards, so be sure to have enough cash (it's a distance to the nearest ATM). read more
