We took advantage of visiting the Village Restaurant during Litchfield Restaurant Week. The prix fixe menu offered great choices. I started with a delicious seafood bisque. The stuffed pork loin was a generous entree with a stuffing made up of Granny Smith apples, cornbread and cheddar cheese. The mashed potatoes were topped with a tasty gravy. Dessert was "Denise's Famous Carrot Cake" was wonderful - very moist with lots of raisins and coconut topping the cream cheese frosting. Our server was very attentive and the food was delivered promptly. As a history lover, I loved seeing all the historic photographs on the walls. The building has a very historic feel. Came for lunch on a weekday and the dining room filled up quickly. Excellent cocktails and appetizers. The crispy artichoke hearts were crispy and it was a much larger size than expected. The Spiedini was a great combination of flavors. The bang bang fish wrap was a hearty meal, if a bit one note texturally. The salmon crab cake sandwich came in a little dry due to the ratio of bun to cake, might not get again, and instead go for one of the other awesome looking options on the sandwich and entree menus. This is a fun little spot in Litchfield. It's very small - only like 10 tables or so, and kind of old timey inside, which we liked. The service was friendly, and we got the last table for an early dinner around 4:45 on a Saturday. I ordered the chicken parm sandwich on recommendation from the server. Great experience here. Located in historic downtown Litchfield, the restaurant is in a charming older building that has been kept well. Dining room is nothing fancy but clean and cozy. We visited the Village Restaurant again last evening with some friends. We love the Village Restaurant for its food, its ambiance, and especially the service. Many thanks to "Louise" our server last evening. We absolutely loved her great sense of humor. If she reads this she'll know what I mean. She truly helped in making our evening. I have been going to this restaurant since the day I moved to Litchfield. Quality food, friendly service, local, and fair prices. That changed for me yesterday. I ordered the chopped salad, which I've had before. But this time the entire salad was not chopped. The lettuce was cut into pieces but not chopped. There was less chicken, less bacon and the salad was smaller......and the price was higher. Less food for more moeny is not a good combo. I'll probably still go here but I won't order the chopped salad and will be careful what I order. Can't go here, close my eyes, pick a meal and be happy. That ended yesterday. read more

You couldn't get a bad meal here if you threw it under the table, dragged it across the floor, and re-plated it! We've been coming to The Village for about 20 years. We lived in Litchfield for 8 and we ate here about 15 times a year. Everyone knows us, Paul & Timothy, and our favorite servers are always there to make us smile, especially Holly. They are all the kindest and most amazing people from top to bottom, and Denise and crew always make us feel at home. The food is always on point. Do you know how hard that is to accomplish in this day and age, with the massive difficulties faced by restaurants in the areas of staffing, food prices and quality control? That's a rhetorical question. Extremely hard indeed. When you come in, you'll pass the tightly huddled good folks of Litchfield and surrounding towns, from Torrington to Morris and Bantam. It belongs to us all. You'll sit and be greeted by the server and the placemat which features Litchfield based sports teams from the past. Right off the bat, you're hit with nostalgia that is specific and authentic to the spirit of this town. And, who doesn't love rating the handsome players from 1-10 while you wait! I know everyone has done it! Right during the height of dinner the lights dim, the candles are lighted and the local buzz of Litchfield humanity can be heard through the pub and the dining room. If you're on the pub side or the dining side, you always feel like you're missing the fun on the other side, and that's what makes this place memorable and amazing,--you might get seated in either part of the restaurant, but a great time will be had no matter where you sit. At any time of the day, locals are sitting at the bar to enjoy a beer, drink and talk about the upcoming Road Race, the holiday party over at Declan's, or the band at the village green concerts. It's a town that has several great restaurants, but one restaurant in the heart of Litchfield and in the hearts of Litchfieldians that just clinches it. The Village is an old favorite. It is always consistently good food and great draft list. I would say it's really good pubby comfort food. Their sandwiches are great, wings, burgers, chili and soups. All good. Last night I had a chicken coconut curry which was a special because I wasn't feeling like anything too heavy and it was delicious! Fresh broccoli, red peppers and carrots were great! It's a small place, so if it's busy, it can be awkward to figure out where to wait, but I haven't had to wait for more than 20 or so minutes. If you're looking for a chill atmosphere with good food, this is your place! If you're looking for a fancier restaurant vibe, I'd go somewhere else. We come here for the food and beer. read more

We dropped in after a day of snowboarding at Mohonk and everything we ordered was so hearty and warmed us right up. Great ambiance and great location in the center of town. I really enjoy this place, especially in the colder weather months. They always have several soup and sandwich combinations along with an extensive menu of comfort foods and all kinds of pub fare. Has a very rustic feel inside due to the age of the building. Service is always good and the food speaks for itself. They have a nice rotating draft list for beers and carry several locally brewed beers as well. My wife LOVES the chili. I had a tuna melt and bowl of clam chowder this particular trip. Great as always. My wife had the chili and it was also the same great chili it always has been. My favorite is the crispy chicken sandwich but is switched it up this time. I'm torn on this review. I think if I came back and ordered another dish it would be a better experience. The location is nice. There are outdoor and some indoor tables on the Main Street in Litchfield. The service was pretty good. I ordered the buffalo chicken nachos. I don't feel like is an accurate description of what I got. There was absolutely nothing buffalo about the nachos that I got. I would almost have thought I got the wrong item, but there's no other nachos on the menu. I got plain chicken, cheese, tomato, and jalapeño nachos. There was also a side of sour cream and salsa as stated. I gave it a try, but just wasn't doing anything for me. It was a large portion too. It needed the chicken to either be buffalo flavored, or have some buffalo sauce drizzled or something. read more

This is a review of the Village Restaurant in the times of COVID-19. They have recently re-opened for take-away food, and have their menus available on their Facebook page (they seem to alter a little bit each day, and they're not open every day). You can order ahead by calling, and can pay over the phone. Drive through the alleyway towards the back parking lot, and stop at a little table outside their kitchen, and VIOLA! A nice masked and gloved person will grab your name and return with your order. It's a lovely system. The food traveled pretty well, the mozzarella breading was a little thick but an excellent breading to cheese ratio, and the sauce wasn't overwhelming. The fries were cooked just at the point between soggy and crispy, and the condensation in the take-away container didn't muddle them. The burgers were cooked as directed (pink or non-pink), and overall was a great break from home cooking. I hope to go again when society safely resumes! read more

Here this past Friday. Quick seating on bar side. Food came out super fast. I wasn't sure if I was being rushed out though to free up table. Waitress wasn't rude just short, so hard to tell if she was very busy or rushing us out. I don't snap too quick judgements since you never know what someone is experiencing in this own reality. It did not affect my experience. Food was good. Fish and chips on this Lenten Friday. Crisp and tasty, not greasy! It's a happening spot by the bar, so if you are bothered by lots of talking and noise, maybe try the other side. I've been here before years ago and the food seems consistent. This is not normally my type of restaurant but when I saw Vegan Cobb mentioned in crusty old Litchfield, I knew I had to check it out and I was quite pleasantly surprised. No, the ambience isn't really welcoming nor inviting. It's an old old restaurant sadly lacking the charm of other really old places. It's set up with dining in uncomfortable pews that remind me of cold boarding school rectory services on one side and a long bar on the other side. There's no outdoor seating whatsoever. Both sides are long and dark. Where my delight comes from however are the offerings: an extensive wine list, a varied menu with plenty of vegetarian options (except Vegetarian Salmon - someone obviously doesn't know that's an oxymoron), a nice daily specials menu and the coup d'grace - mounds of fresh whipped cream! Honestly that and a glass of KJ Chardonnay are all I need but throw vegetarian choices in between, and I'm happy as a clam. I'll return when in the area. I liked the food very much. read more

The Village is a small restaurant in the heart of Litchfield. It has a bar area and a restaurant area which are separated by a wall. The place is very small and could definitely use some updates inside but for a quick bite to eat they offer a variety of choices. Burgers, salads, soup, entrees. We had chili and a salad. Both were good. Nothing amazing but nothing to complain about either. The bathroom is super small. Tables felt slightly sticky. I was pleasantly surprised by this place! Looks very cute on the outside but once you enter it looks like a hole in the wall dive bar. Don't let appearances fool you - this place puts out some great food! I was there as a part of a party of 3. We ordered the machupichiano red wine which was great. We also had the fried calamari with gorganzola and cherry peppers for an appetizer which was amazing! For meals we had the bantam turkey sandwich, roasted pork Philly cheesesteak sandwich, and corned beef Rachel sandwich. All the sandwiches were great! Excellent flavor and quality with large portions. Made with (what I assume is) local Bantam fresh bread and cheeses. Only negative was the service was not friendly at all. Our waitress did not smile once, she came up to our table twice and simply stated 'decision?' To get us to order which I found very off-putting. The Village deserves a Five. It's a great place. They have fantastic food here. So here is the story of how we came to be here.We had originally went somewhere else but the other place was closing for the day. They actually referred us to The Village! Nothing like a referral to a restaurant by another restaurant. You know it's gottta be good. And it was. This is a very nice place, perfect for a relaxing early dinner. My dad had the Fish-n-chips and I had a Bacon Burger. We sampled each other's dishes though. The food was off the charts great. I finished the whole burger which is saying something because it's huge but you can tell it's high quality meat. It had a fantastic taste. Both myself and my dad are two of the pickiest burger eaters you can possibly imagine and we both thought it was sensational. Then there is the Fish & Chips, (see pic below). That too was off the charts great. The portion size is huge. Beyond that though, The Village has just the right atmosphere. It's quaint and friendly, not stuffy at all and perfect for just about anyone. Comfy seating as well. I was very happy. Service was warm and friendly and we had coffee. My dad loved his food as well and he is quite the picky eater as am I. We both took a chance and out of that chance, we had a five star dining experience. Food is hit or miss. Every time I've been here the food is either outstanding or disappointing (just to clarify never in my experience has it been bad). Just things like the burger being too small and over cooked or the soup being too salty. ****That being said this is a special place**** The atmosphere is great, and no matter what day or what time you go you will always find plenty of people enjoying themselves. Enjoyed a $7 flight with my lunch- had an excellent selection of IPAs but the porter they had on draft was my favorite. Most recently I had the turkey sandwich - i was attracted to it on the menu because i saw it was made with local cheese from arethusa- and this sandwich was everything that a leftover turkey dinner sandwich should be except for that it is probably fresher. This is hands down the best lunch restaurant in town. The clam chowder is thick with large chunks of clams, not overfilled with potatoes, and rich with flavor. The menu always has great variety that can tempt you to try new things. The atmosphere is village-y and the staff personable. I always enjoy my returns. read more

All other reviews led my wife and I pick this restaurant. However nothing rang true. Our server was rude to us because we look young. Mind you we are 27 and own a house in Avon. I can't honestly rate the food as we ended up getting a sandwich to split because of how rude our waitress was. We didn't want to give them anymore of our money. Neighbor and I attended an event up the road and wanted a bite before our drive home. She suggested the Village, since it was on our way, and we managed to find a parking spot right in front, and even better, a table right away near the bar. The menu was varied without being pretentious. Plenty of choices, from pub snacks, through sandwiches and burgers, to more substantial entrees. Neighbor decided on nachos, and I went with fried oysters, something I really enjoy. Service was quick, and even her half-portion of nachos was more than she could eat alone. My oysters were succulent and hot, and a decent portion for the price. There was a reasonable selection of house wines, none of which were, in my opinion, out of price range for the area, and some were a much better selection than most of the other bars. If we had more time, this was the type of place we would have hung out at for a while, but we'll do that next time. For a quick bite, a full dinner, or just to hang at the bar, I think this would be one of the best choices in the area. read more

Took advantage of the fall weather and took a drive up to this quintessential Connecticut town. Wandered upon this place and they seated outside on a gorgeous day made even better by great food and friendly staff. Best pumpkin bisque I have ever had.
