Not one of the local mom-and-pops that I tried to patronise first returned any of my calls, website requests or Yelp requests. Bit my tongue, filled out my request and shipped all my negs to ScanCafe. First nit: I couldn't find a way to request both the prints and the image scans in one form, which was annoying. So I just shut up and issued two orders separately. Received the link to see the scans, at which time I was required to pay my balance, and then: second nit. It took forever to get my prints ... but I got them, and they were as good as could be expected from old negatives. The really good thing was that my original negatives also came back well-packed and pristine - so we do have trust. And I liked the online model - worked well for ordering and examining my scans when they appeared. I expect to return to ScanCafe for more neg scans and to try some hardcopy print scans (and probably at least a few restorations/touchups). I was overall very pleased and would recommend them to anyone.

I was looking for QuickTime or Apple ProRes. Apparently I saw old information (they said) where their web page said they digitize to QuickTime. What I got was MP4 files. Some of them were digitized OK, a couple had bad color- the original tapes colors were fine. Communication with and within this company is not good. When I FINALLY got my tapes back some boxes were missing though thank God I have all my videotapes. But they were all a mish mash and didn't correlate with the numbers on the boxes. Same with the digitized files: I called to specifically ask them to label them with the number on the tape and cassette but they didn't do that. This company has wasted a lot of my time. If you care about the job being done well and timely do not use this company. I'm not sure how they stay in business.

I placed a photo order and received a text notification that my photos were ready for pickup. When…read moreI get here, 3 hrs later, I find a sign saying see someone in electronics. So, I go to electronics for assistance. Although the young man attempted to assist he advise that the pictures aren't ready and there is no one in the photo area at this time. I advise of the sign with no luck. After standing there for 5 or 10 min I see my photos printing. A gentleman walking by stops and ask if I need assistance. I advise I'm waiting for someone to return to which he replies, they're probably on lunch but if you're picking up you can check in electronics. I explained I've already don't that and that I see my photos on the printer. Daniel proceeds to get the photos ready for me. I was all set for my usual terrible experience at the East Washington Walmart but Daniel turn it around for me. Just wondering why he wouldn't have said, I'm returning from my lunch. The photographer at Focus On Studio was friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. Good lighting so instead of red eyes and skin, the new photo had clear skin without redness. At least five pictures were taken and shown to me on a large screen so I could choose a smile I liked. Quick and easy. Though it was a more expensive than FedEx, it was worth every penny. I never got around to using one scene nor the pulldown backdrops nor the cyc wall. So many options available. The studio came on the recommendation of a model, and she was not wrong. Quite affordable. The owner was quite helpful and friendly. Highly recommend the place to traveling photographers as well as anyone local looking for a place to shoot.
