I do not recommend this company. I found their site quite misleading. ScanDigital is way overpriced. And when one reads a flash drive or hard copy you would expect to receive an actual physical something! Now if you are into downloading your converted media, then this may be for you. I am a professional with a video production company who also transfers tapes/media. Sometimes I outsource to another entity (with my customer's approval) when I get crazy busy and backed up. This company used to be good when it was under different ownership. Now the service is terrible. I sent 27 of my client's tapes to them as a reseller. At least half of the tapes on the first try were missing huge sections (they didn't transfer all of the tapes). They asked for a second try. I said I would allow that and please get it right or I'll have to ask for a refund. They promised they'd make it right. So, I asked my client to wait an additional month as we sent all of the tapes back and tried again. Again, tapes came back that were not fully captured and the audio even had a new buzz on some transfers that are not there when you watch the tape. I called ScanDigital again and told them that I was not happy with the service and that I couldn't hand the tapes back to the client and state that everything was transferred faithfully, knowing that chunks were still missing! I asked for a manager to call me back because I'd be requesting a refund. They never called back. I had to file a dispute with my credit card company (and of course ScanDigital is pretending like their shocked that I'm so dissatisfied). Stay very far away from these people. You cannot trust them to transfer your media faithfully and you won't know what family memories you're missing out on. They should be very ashamed of their lack of integrity, especially when their front webpage says, "there is no room for error." Well, I agree, but apparently for as much as they "try", they can't deliver what they are promising. (Would you seriously be interested in shipping your media back to them 3+ times, hoping they'll get it right?) I recommend spending a bit more $ somewhere else if you have to and definitely stay local if you can. Certainly choose someone else to transfer your media. read more

Their prices are fair, we had very good communications during the process, the scanned pictures were available for down load (which looked good), and the originals were returned in the same fashion that I shipped them out in along with a flash drive container the scanned pictures. Slow. The order was not complete, because they forgot to include the drive. Quality is not as good as I can do with my flatbed scanner at home. The packaging for shipping was so minimal that it really was not protective and not worth the price. ScanDigital review I purchased a package for 10 videotapes to be converted to digital format for a friend of mine. I had previously used another company to do another 10 videotapes and they did a great job, and they did it quickly and competitively priced. Buy my friend suggested that she wanted to try this company she had heard about ScanDigital So since these were her tapes and it was my gift to her I said OK and placed the order on 10/04/2020 order# 2009121. I paid in advance as indicated on the order form and I WAITED. On 10/19/202 having received NO communication from ScanDigital nor the promised shipping materials that were supposed to be part of the order which I had already paid for I sent them an email asking what was going on with my order. On 10/20/2020 I got and an email reply from them stating that they did not have my shipping information needed to ship me the materials for shipping the tapes. I immediately replied that all my shipping and mailing information, as well as all my contact information, had been provided on the order form. But I gave it to them again. On 10/25/2020 I finally received the shipping materials they had promised from the initial order. I immediately packaged the tapes and drove the shipment directly to my UPS shipping point that same day and shipped it out with the preprinted label on it and all the documentation inside the box. No bear in mind they have had my money for 24 days and I have had to be the one to initiate all communication regarding this order. According to UPS ScanDigital received that package on 10/26/2020. On 10/29/2020 I got another email, "This email is to confirm that we have prepared your materials from Order 2009121 for processing. Your materials are now in queue for processing, our Essential Tracker System will notify you when the scanning process begins. We anticipate that your order will be completed and shipped by:11/26/2020." On 11/24/2020 having received no tracker information and anticipating the Thanksgiving holiday I sent them another email asking when I should expect the order to be shipped. I got no reply and my order arrived on Friday 11/27/2020 I checked the thumb drive that had the data transfers on it, and it appears to be accurate and I would say the results are adequate. Having said that the other company was much faster and far more competitively priced. I will never use this company again and cannot recommend it based largely on the fact that they seem to think that once they have your money they are under no obligation to communicate with you unless you initiate that communication. I was in business for over 45 years and if I had treated my customers in this fashion I would have had a very short career. read more

Horrible experience. I paid for 8 VHS conversions. I could only find 4 of them and shipped them out after being told they would refund the difference. They sent an email March 3rd saying they received my tapes and hey should be done by 3/17. That was the last I heard from them. I called and emailed several times for a status with no real information. Their website's order status was also not working. I finally received my order the 1st week of April. I then have had numerous interactions with their customer service to try and get my refund for the difference. They said they mailed the check 2x but i never received it. Not until i threatened to call the BBB and insisted they send my check via UPS did i finally receive it on June 22nd! I will never use these guys again. I highly suggest once you have your videos and/or pictures back to double check the finished product you received. Ones we had done years ago and overcharged for I am just now going through them and thankfully I kept the original tapes. The quality is horrible, the audio is barley there on most of them. I have my original tapes and I was able to get one of them transferred to USB by a NON professional and the quality and sound is a million times better then what they sent to us. I know it was years ago but reading other reviews on here makes me think they are still doing the same thing with bait and switch and not producing quality professional results. read more

I wanted to try this service a while ago, so I sent two hi-8 video tapes to be converted to DVD format. One of them was a weeding. I received both of them in a nice jacket with a few thumbprints of the video on the cover. It looked professional. However, when I played the wedding DVD, I was extremely disappointed! They converted the video part as expected, but the audio track was someone else's birthday party, at least that's what I could tell from what I heard on my DVD - it was really awful to have that kind of mistake. I made a call to Scan Digital BEFORE making my two groupon purchases only to find out AFTER making my purchase with groupon and then ordering services through Scan Digital that they charge on top of every order an additional $35 per order for shipping not mentioned on the up front call, and an extra $15 each order ($30 total extra), for the information to be on a thumb drive vs on a CD style disc. Who has a Disc drive these days on their laptop? And this is the kicker, if you are sending in old film to be converted, and there is more film than you estimated...you are then charged at the full bend over price of $.38 a foot, not at the price rate which you paid for the up-front service. I bought 3 groupons to try out 3 different Media Conversion Businesses represented on Groupon. I believe Scan Digital is VERY deceptive. They get more than twice what you pay for a groupon by charging outrageous shipping. I-Memories tells you to ship your media to them yourself, OR, Buy a Prepaid Box which they will send you for $9.99. Shipping is covered both ways. The Box holds as much as 12 VHS tapes. 2-Memories on Media instructs to ship Media Mail with tracking. For 6 VHS, this was only $5.87 West Coast to East Coast. Scan Digital only offers their own shipping options STARTING at $39.90!!! This is four Times I-Memories prepaid box and almost SEVEN times the cost of shipping with Memories on Media. They are offering a "deal" on Groupon and then doubling the cost, and their profit, in forced shipping through the back door. They are being deceptive and outrageous when compared to I-Memories and Memories on Media. read more

I had been procrastinating for years in digitizing my photos. Finally, since I was downsizing and moving, I've decided to take on this major task since I'm the keeper of the family photos. I was so excited since I had over 3000 photos that needed scanning and organizing. I sent in 1400 photos to be scanned, packaging them as instructed. It took a while to receive them back but customer service was good about responding to my inquiries to request the status. I even received offers for discounts by email and was so confident in the service I thought I was receiving that I pre-paid for the next batch of 1000. However, when I received the 1st scanned photos back, I was VERY disappointed. I had professional "sharp and clear" pictures included and they came back grainy with a line going down the middle. This was including my wedding pictures! Apparently, there is not a quality check before sending the pictures back. There was not one picture with good scanned quality. So, after talking to customer service, I was reluctant to try again but re-sent the same batch of pictures in because they claimed they received a brand-new scanner and it will be quality checked before sending it back. I received them back the 2nd time, the professional pictures no longer had a line going down the middle which is good. However, the quality of all the pictures is below average to average at best. My cheap scanners at home do a better quality. Unfortunately, I pre-paid for that 2nd batch of 1000 pics since they offered a great discount. According to customer service, I can't receive a refund because it is too late and outside of their refund window policy. Lesson learned for me to NEVER do that again. They have great discounts and offers but what is the point of a discount if the quality is subpar. I do NOT recommend this company. I do recommend that you spend the money on a good quality scanner, take your time, do it yourself OR find another company and only send in a small amount to test their quality first. I even recommended them to other friends, and I had to quickly call them to tell them not to use Scan Digital. I'm so disappointed. In total, I've lost $800. Please do not waste your money! I did a small order with ScanDigital a couple of years ago and was impressed with the quality of the service. Now I just received a very large order back of scanned photos and negatives from 20+ years ago. I was thrilled with the quality of the images, from the color to the clarity! It was also amazing to see photos I had forgotten existed. One of the best things, that I hadn't even thought of, was that instead of just dumping the hundreds of images onto the usb drive, they organized them into labeled and dated folders according to the notes I had on the negative sleeves. That organization saved me so much work and is just one more factor that will make me a repeat customer! read more

I mailed in my Beta video tapes in February 2018. It's June 1, 2018 and I still have not received my memory stick with my files. I complained and they sent me some of my files by DropBox last month at the very last minute when I needed it for a presentation. Communication about the delay was very poor. No compensation offered. I paid $98 and change for the first order. Put it into a box, realized it was much more. Contacted them before I even shipped and told them it'd be some multiple of that. They wrote back a month later saying it was 815 photos and negatives, and would be another $395. Ok, that's fair. Another 6 weeks go by, I get curious, send an email, they respond in another 2 weeks sending me back all the photos, negs, etc. with a flash drive. With 50 pics on it. I call back this time, they eventually send a flash drive with what looks like the appropriate number of photos. I sorted it, and I'm not sure they did do all of them, but I'm done for now. So, a mixed bag, though I'm glad I got my mom's stuff digitized. read more

My order was processed very well, each tape was on a separate CD and labeled appropriately. The process took 2 months. Way to long. The bigger problem was that they mixed clearly dated tape up and put them in 1 file. So videos that are years or even decades apart are mixed in with one another making it very difficult to find some event via date. However, biggest problem of all was they did not adjust "tracking" so many videos were garbled and/or video waving and flickering. Zero effort to get it done right. When I got my tapes back, there were returned as originally and the CDs were wrapped up in a pretty bow. All the final touches were amazing. I sent in tapes to be converted to DVDs. They sent back a thumb drive which was mostly unwatchable. Some of the files had music dubbed instead of the actual audio. I called and the service rep said they never dub music. I have proof that they did. My tapes still have the original audio and NO music. I sent the tapes back for a second try. Dumb move. Watching their second converted video I apparently have someone else's file stuck in the middle of mine. None of our family in it but a lot of people that I don't know. RIP OFF! I bought two groupons for scan digital, used them and paid additional for the shipping. Then Scan Digital charged my credit card an additional $212 and refuses to take it off although no extra services were provided beyond our original Groupons. I called them multiple times and received assurances that the error would be corrected but it never was. I finally called the credit card company and asked that the charge be removed. It was removed temporarily until Scan Digital refuted the claim--now we have to appeal. There are plenty of other places to use. These people are unethical and, basically, thieves. read more

Two attempts at getting "expert" video on hard drive ($600 worth of services) resulted in a third request to return originals yet again to "try again." After confirming the hard drive was corrupted by SD (spent another $300 getting an IT company to recover) all SD offered was send them all back again. This is NOT the CA company it was back in the day. If you have time to ask them where your order is over and over and have the patience then SD is your solution. I have roughly $2500 in videos to be converted and sadly will not be using SD. All I want is a pickle! read more

They took 3 times longer than they said to return the tapes (ended up being about 3 months and they only returned them when we called and inquired), and they didn't do 7 of the tapes we sent and wouldn't refund us for the ones they didn't do. They are rude and completely unapologetic about their mistakes. Would not recommend them or trust them again with precious and irreplaceable tapes of our family. Using a $29 Groupon (I don't do Groupon anymore), I ended up paying $52 for nothing. Buyer beware. 1) Do not send in VHS tapes that are copyrighted (which is every tape made comercially). 2) Do not expect high quality. The digital resolution of the product is inferior. read more

Odd that there are mostly glowing reviews on Yelp and mostly negative on another site. Our experience was that they did charge more than the Groupon indicated and we were told they would look into it, but never heard anything more. Minor quibble compared to the quality - almost every video has the sound out of sync with the actual speaking, so you're watching someone's lips move and it doesn't match up to the audio at all. Most of them are basically not watchable unless you just want comic relief. Very disappointing! read more

I used their online service to order my pictures be converted to flash drive. Paid almost 30 dollars, sent the package to them beginning of August. Beginning of October I get a message from my card company that I was charged another 93 dollars for the completion of the order!! I was never informed this would be charged! I recently placed a large order using Groupon with this company and was very pleased with the results. I had nearly 100 really old and in poor condition photos and a ton of 8 MM movies I wanted converted to digital format. Of course I was nervous to send these items out in a box to a different state with a company I knew little about, but the price was more than reasonable, and at their current rate of deterioration I thought it was worth the risk. It worked out great for me. The company maintains outstanding communication throughout the process. If you can be a little patient and trust that things are going as they should, I'm sure you will be rewarded with an outstanding end result. I got exactly what was promised, within a reasonable time frame (less than a month over Christmas). I thought the quality of scanning was GREAT, no problems with color or imperfections of any kind. Not only that they labeled all of the folders on the thumb drive with the notes I had scribbled on the ziplocks for my own reference -- thoughtful extra step. I had about 70 old family photos --- some more than 150 years old. Scan Digital cleaned them up and put them on a CD where the photos are much clearer than the originals were! They are organized just as I labeled them. Plus, all my originals were returned in the same way that I had sent them in. I am very pleased to have this all done for me! It took a bit longer to get them returned that I had thought (about two months), but Scan Digital kept in contact with me, and the wait was worth it. read more

There is a moment of clarity that exists when you discover the older media you have might be lost forever and for a couple of reasons. 1. Are the tapes aging and fragile? 2. Do you even possess a device with which to play them? We answered yes to the first one and no to the second. My wife and I had a moment and knew it was time to act quickly. We needed to do something knowing how precious these captured moments are. We boxed them up and sent them to ScanDigital. Admittedly, that is another moment. What's going to happen to them? We were certainly nervous about it. When the DVDs arrived, along with the original media, we were blown away. Quality assurance checklist was the first thing we saw when we opened the box. Wow, talk about customer experience! In addition, detail was evident. The DVDs had menus with scene selection. The video quality had been saved. The list goes on. Do yourself a favor and future-proof those memories about to be lost to time on old media. You won't regret sending them to ScanDigital. Thanks to YELP I was contacted by ScanDigital Management & they gladly reimbursed the charges, so I wanted to update my previous post. I appreciated the opportunity to finally speak to someone who listened & understood the actual on-line error. I'm happy now! (previous post below)... Beware anyone considering purchasing a Groupon or Amazon Local deal from Scan Digital! This Company has TERRIBLE customer service! I purchased the $29 deal for my in-laws 50th wedding anniversary. Long story short, I followed their on-line order process, put my credit card info in for the $10 shipping. Then, 7 weeks later I got an additional $87.22 charge on my card because (as they informed me) my Amazon deal did not apply. So I phoned them & they reply "there is nothing we can do now, we cannot go back & apply a credit once my card is charged". Wow! So regardless of the fact I have $100 credit/vouchers still & they told me to simply use it another time. I would NEVER consider using this company again. I will gladly pay another Co. for the same service rather than deal w/ScanDigital ever again! I have been going back & forth w/ScanDigital since July & short of turning it over to my credit card co. now to fight the charge, I will try to let ANYONE know they set out to rip you off & DO NOT buy a voucher or do business with them! We had sent film photos, from 1998, that by today's standards were not as high resolution, so we opted for the enhanced scanning price, and it ends up it was worth it. I am completely disappointed and utterly frustrated. I sent in 19 mini VHS tapes to be transferred to CD's and an external drive (it took 2 months). What I received were awful. Most had "video calibration" on them with white noise and couldn't be watched. I sent them back for a "re-do". When I received the new CD's and external drive (after yet another 2 months) the white noise and "video calibration" were gone but the sound kept going out. When the sound WAS on, it wasn't in sync with with the video. It's so frustrating to watch someone's lips moving and their voice is somewhere else. I sent in my Groupon receipt and credit card charge receipt and asked for a refund of those charges. I felt another "re-do" at this point was ridiculous. They sent a reply that they'd look into it. That was over a month ago. So this has been almost SIX months of frustration. I emailed them AGAIN asking what the delay was and received a generic email saying I needed to reopen and reply to the request number. Aaarrggghhh!! I just sent in another email stating my frustration and asked again for the refund. Who knows what kind of response I'll get. So I'm resorting to this negative review. I don't like writing them but I feel this one is deserved. Oh, and I'm never using Groupon again either. I think the value v/s quality simply isn't worth it. read more
