I dropped off my trumpet for some work and picked up a few items and I loved how friendly the staff. For repairs they gave a basic quote and then they will call once the instrument has been checked out for a final quote. I have no complaints, though I wish their Waterford store had a bigger selection of brass and woodwinds to look through. Everyone I met today was super friendly. I will update when I get my horn back and tell about the workmanship and final price compared to the original quote.

The real advantage that A & R has is the terrific instructional and technical staff. My daughter has taken Tenor Sax and Guitar lessons there for several years. I cannot say enough good about Mike (Guitar), Terry (Sax), and Elane (Sax). Also, Timmy the instrument repair god is fast and cheap, and is really accommodating for emergency repairs. What's funny is that I used to live around the corner, as well, until I sold my condo recently. I thought I had messed up my uncle's violin, the bridge had collapsed. I also wanted to get one of my bows restrung. They are by appointment only and I tried emailing them but didn't hear back, so I gave them a call today since I was going to be in the area. I got a new bow from them, as well as new strings. It was a little pricey, about $112, but I know it's a family business. The house looked exactly the same as I had remembered and they have all sorts of cool memorabilia and things on the walls. It looks like they can rent violins too, there were some little kids there who were starting out on their first violins which was nice. They threw in a cloth for me for free and also a luggage tag for the violin, which I thought was very nice. I highly recommend this place even if it's a 30 to 40 minute drive for you like it is for me now.

It's totally unprofessional for them to treat anybody this way, and it's extra bad for their business, as I am a member of the Detroit Symphony and have students, and will certainly spread the word about my experience. Further, I stopped going to get my instrument serviced after Peter did an unprofessional job on my bridge, making it far too low, far lower than I requested, rendering it useless for my purposes. So I cannot at this time recommend this shop. There are plenty of alternatives with much more professional services.

My son broke a string on his guitar today...which is, in his mind, is truly equivalent to the end of the world. Realizing that it's close to closing time (on a holiday weekend no less), I wasn't even sure if he'd be able to get it today. The first, a standard 5x8 enclosed Uhaul trailer which they said should work. Unfortunately, due to the additional size of their pallet it would not fit in the opening. The second was a very large toy hauler trailer but they said there was no way to secure the piano to the trailer. This all took about an hour of discussion. I was very pleasant and accepted that it was not going to happen. The manager then called me and said they were charging me a service call fee of $350. when I told her I thought that was unreasonable she said too bad and hung up the phone on me. I was prepared to pay something reasonable like $200, but they refused to discuss. You don't need to use greedy businesses like this, there are other piano companies. To add insult to injury they said my Young Chang baby grand was in excellent condition and they would give me $750 For it.
