Some of the finest wines you'll find in Washington, at a new tasting room in Maltby. My review for their other tasting room in Hollywood Hills mentioned how great their "The Bully" cabernet is (along with almost every other red), but you haven't had a chardonnay until you've tried their Ashan Cellars Conner Lee Chardonnay. Buttery smooth and balanced fruit flavors. Yeah it's expensive but you'll never forget it! Thank you to the staff when we visited last weekend. She put up with our group's indecision and flip flopping, and brought everything out with a smile. Highly recommend this stop if you're in the area! read more

I had not heard of this winery until last July when we had one of their offerings at a anniversary dinner, and it was outstanding. When I learned the winery is nearly in my backyard I wanted to visit and try more of their varieties. This is one of two tasting rooms Gorman has in the Woodinville area and it's in a (the?) production facility which I tend to prefer. We were met by a smiling and happy host and seated immediately. We tried their wine flight which included reds and whites, and they were all quite good. Wine is very subjective to the taster, but these are definitely trending towards my palate. The service and ambience of the tasting room is comfortable, and cool being that the proprietor apparently is in the rock 'n' roll, and has some great guitars in the room. You can look straight into the production facility from part of the tasting room and it has an authentic feel. This is definitely worth getting out of the Hollywood District in Woodinville to try when you are looking for a place to sample some great Washington wines. read more

Ended up bringing 2 bottles home. Great tasting room with rock and roll memorabilia and good wine. I recommend trying it. read more

This place was a pleasant surprise! Novelty Hill suggested them and so glad they did! After the tasting, of which all were delicious , we decided on a glass each. I enjoyed Devil you Know and Pixie while my friend like Evil Twin. We were able to enjoy our glasses on the patio and order from the Italian eatery. Beautiful place. It was pretty busy when I walked in so we just ordered a glass and sat outside on the patio in the sun. We ordered food from the restaurant right next door and they walked it over to our table right outside of Gormans. The staff was friendly and the winery was open and inviting. read more

Came in with the Woodinville Wine Passport. Place is run with rock n roll theme to the point of blaring loud rock music, mostly grunge and late 80s hair rock. Not appetizing for wine. Some of the wines are OK but the prices aren't just high they're outrageous. Think $40-65. Wound up not buying anything. Final insult was walking around at QFC grocery store that night we found one of these wines there for $13. What a rip off at the tasting room. read more

This winery taught me that i just dont appreciate expensive wine! Bottles were more expensive than other places weve tried. The flavors were fine but nothing amazing. Pin ball machines in the tasting room. Dog friendly if thats your thing (it doesn't really work for me.) no descriptions of the product on the menu. Gorman has produced some great scores through the years, and I'm on board with a few of the scores, but not all. I can say I've never tried one that I hated, but, as with some wineries, their wines don't always support the price points. I'd wish for a bit more complexity.....just a bit too mellow in general. The staff is nice, but then again, the tasting room is rarely open except for events. read more

My native Seattle friend and I went to a Friday night taisting and we had a great time. The wines were excellent, deep, intense and smooth. Their Shiraz are highly rated by the both the WS and the WE. The service is on par with their wines, they welcome dogs and have live music on Friday night. Another rainy Seattle Sunday, so what to do? Taste the grape, of course, so no sooner than we had the idea (and braved the traffic on 405) we were standing at the bar at Gorman and sipping away. It was a formidable tasting of 7 wines, but worth every drop we knocked back. Our host started us off with a horizontal tasting of three Chardonnays (2013) under their second label, Ashan. Fun fact: Ashan is the Hebrew word for "smoke" (say it "ah-SHAN" if you wanna sound like a sabra), but if you're worried about that particular note overpowering your Chard, you shouldn't; these are well balanced wines. The Ashan tasting highlights the different oak treatments the three Chards received with the progression being from lightest to heaviest. The Celilo Vineyard Chard was aged in neutral French oak and was all about pineapple, pear and citrus zest with the pineapple stealing the show on the palate. Next was the Kestrel Vineyard Chard (60% new oak and 40% neutral) still showing lots of fruit (pear especially) but balanced out with butter and smoke. Finally, the Connor Lee Vineyard Chard was aged in 100% new oak, and the dominant fruit was green apple followed by crème brûlée wrapped in a suitably rich and creamy mouthfeel. All three were excellent wines, but my favorite? Easy peasy: the Kestrel Vineyard for a perfect balance of fruit and oak. The Ashan tasting almost could have been a stand-alone but then we moved on to the Gorman reds. Zachary's Ladder (2012) was a Cab Sauv, Syrah and Petit Verdot blend that despite clocking in at 14.8% alcohol didn't taste hot at all. This wine had a complex nose of blueberry, blackberry and toffee with the palate as the nose plus some black tea and tar. Next came the 2012 Pixie, a Syrah that, fun fact again, was named after the band of the same name. With plum, blackberry and roses plus some tar on the palate this was another powerful but well balanced wine. The 2012 Bully (mostly Cab Sauv with 6% Petit Verdot) was showing berries and cocoa on the nose and tongue and was exceptionally well balanced. And, aharon aharon haviv (to keep with the Hebrew theme), the tasting finished off with the 2012 Evil Twin. There's a fun fact story about this wine's name, too, but I should leave something for the folks at Gorman to tell you so be sure to ask them about it. A three quarters Syrah/one quarter Cab Sauv blend, this had the highest listed alcohol of the bunch (15%) but still remained in balance and had a great blackberry, blueberry and roses thing going on. By the way, all of these reds had great acid/tannin structure and you would not hurt yourself in any way to buy multiple bottles and sock some away for a few years to see what you get. Great reds all but what was the fave? Though you're not going to hear this on an after school special, the winner is the Bully. Bottom line: Not a bad (or even mediocre) bottle in the bunch of seven. Do yourself a favor and head over to Gorman. read more
