Mark Ryan was a great winery! First off, the staff is super friendly and inviting. We brought a group of 8 in and we were quickly seated outside on the patio (it was a gorgeous day). Within a blink of an eye wine was flowing. The tastings were fantastic. My hat is off to the team, they did a great job of bringing the next wine up and were full of great info about each offering. This is a fun little spot in Woodinville! I stopped here before meeting a friend for dinner during the week - there were quite a few people in there watching a baseball game, but it was still pretty quiet. I was able to order a flight - which was served one by one and thoroughly explained - while working on my laptop. The server accidentally served me the same wine twice - but graciously let me keep the extra pour and didn't charge me more. The wine was delicious - nothing that I didn't like or enjoy! read more

Neither of us was familiar with Mark Ryan wines, so the gentleman working there gave us some good information about the wines and suggested different tastings for the two of us, based on our pallettes. We both enjoyed our wines, some better than others, and found them to be on the dry side. It was a bit odd that they gave us such large glasses for small tastes, but we enjoyed the tasting room decor and it's cool vibe. The MR is winery is absolutely beautiful and bursting at the seams with people, probably because their new building is so much better than their old building, and they made a giant investment in a beautiful patio with fireside seating. They also offered late hours which helps accommodate so many people that want to keep drinking wine after 4 PM. We love Mark Ryan, especially in Walla Walla, where we get phenomenal customer service and a memory making experience. I have to say this Woodenville staff was very disappointing. They were unfriendly, unwelcoming, and acted like I should know exactly what their rules are about "no longer serving tastings after 5 PM (insert eye roll here!" Every winery is different, and so no I did not know that it was glass pours only, and I was made to feel shamed that I would ask such a question about tastings. The staff was dismissive and seemed very put out. We bought a bottle, why are you exasperated Mr? We belong to almost 10 wine clubs, locally, and Mark Ryan is not one of them. I told my husband after this experience, of course we can buy their wine on occasion, but I don't wanna go back. There are so many places in Woodinville that treat you so lovely, why do we want to go back for the customer service abuse here? We are not snobs. Why is your staff acting snobby? It's so unnecessary. Maybe the staff is overwhelmed or having a bad day, but no wine is delicious enough to deal with a pretentious attitude. I was quite surprised when our waitress coughed into her own hands, then proceeded to bring us wine glasses. I did not see any handwashing facilities so I can only assume she did not wash them. Regardless of any excuses she would have put up (I'm not sick, etc.) it still was revolting. Additionally, while I appreciate that the tasting room is dog friendly, I found it off-putting that waitresses handle the dogs and get their hands and face licked, then go pour wine, handle glasses and generally do waitress duty without so much as a hand wash. Seriously? With the amount of wineries and tasting rooms in Woodinville there is truly no reason for me to ever return to Mark Ryan. Edit: @ Pearce: I was as alarmed as you. I made a reservation for a busy Saturday when the weather was unusually nice for March. I had an out of town guest who loves Mark Ryan so I made a reservation. It was better than expected. I have never been to their newer Woodinville tasting room and was pleasantly surprised at how great the location is. We were given a tasting glass each of their Chardonnay while going to our reserved table in the building. We had the table for almost 2 hours and chose the reserved tasting. It was a great experience and they served all the tastings at our table. My guests loved the personalized experience and we had a wonderful time. I would definitely recommend this winery for anyone looking for an exceptional experience for wine tasting. read more

I went to the Mark Ryan Winery a week or two ago. This Winery has been on my list for a while, and I felt really happy with my experience here. I was welcomed by a very bubbly lady. I initially asked her if I could taste some of the Board Track Racer wines, but she explained to me that this location of the Winery doesn't really specialize in those, so they didn't have any of those bottles open for the tastings that day. I explained to her that I was going to a Dinner Party and that my friend Sharon (who was hosting the Dinner Party) didn't yet know what the menu for the dinner party was going to be, so I was unable to ask for a specific food pairing for my wine. Sharon and I have switched off hosting small Dinner Parties every month for the year of 2024, and it's working well for us thus far. I hosted the first Dinner Party in January, and she brought wine. I found out that she is a member of a Wine Club, so I really wanted to bring tasty bottles of wine when she is hosting. The bubbly lady said that some of Mark Ryan's wines are made so that they do not have to be paired with a specific food or foods, so I thought that was nice. After I explained the situation to the lady (I didn't get her name), she immediately recommended the "Dissident" Cabernet Sauvignon. At 45 dollars it was slightly higher than I expected to spend, but once I tasted it I was sold! Sharon loved the Dissident wine. She refilled her wine glass 3 times and she finished off the bottle! I was so happy to see that, and I felt very proud to bring the Dissident wine to her dinner party. I had just one glass of wine with dinner. Usually I actually drink a glass of wine with my dinner about every 3 months or so! I like a nice glass of wine, it is just something that I typically indulge in somewhat rarely. I haven't yet encountered a wine that has motivated me to have a second glass of it in a single dinner. But if I ever do, I will probably be yelping about it! However, in 2024 I have been having one glass of wine per month, due to the Dinner Parties. This is actually way more wine than I usually drink! So, I am seeing this as a great opportunity to explore more of what Woodinville Wine Country has to offer. This Winery's ambiance was my vibe. High wood ceilings, gleaming grays, blacks, and whites, and framed photos of bands and concerts. I felt very comfortable and happy there. This visit was more of a check off on my to do list, as I was heading out to play tennis with a companion immediately after my visit, so I kept this visit pretty brief. However, this Winery is somewhere that I personally would feel very comfortable hanging out for a while and enjoying a more comprehensive tasting, which I may do at some point down the road. I really love the new location of Mark Ryan. A beautiful space and inviting atmosphere. We walked in 30 min before closing and were greeted and immediately seated, which I really appreciate the friendliness. Our pourer was Melissa and she was so nice and helpful! I really appreciated all of her recommendations and you can tell she really cares about the wine and experience. So why are the 2 stars missing? I bought a few bottles and was excited to tip the staff as they did an amazing job, as I was paying - I didn't see the tip option. So I asked where it was and that's when I was informed: THEY DON'T OFFER AN OPTION TO TIP THE WAITSTAFF. What?!!!!! I get that the tipping craze is a little out of hand in certain places but NOT when that is the whole point of their job!!! That's terrible treatment of the employees, Mark Ryan - do better for your staff because I HIGHLY doubt you're paying them a livable wage to make up for the lack of tips they receive since people barely carry cash these days. In short A big new space in the converted old brewery. Fantastic wine. Not exactly cheap, but fantastic without a doubt. In long I can remember when this building went up as a brewery. In the 90s, it was a great sign for the coming craft-beer revolution. An independent brewhouse reaching this scale? It was exciting! Well, the industrial breweries have made more and more offers that the little guys couldn't refuse, so many little guys have semi-disappeared from the beer world, and this big space is now chopped up to share among many local wineries. Thankfully, pretty much everybody on this campus makes very good wine. Mark Ryan is sort of out front, but parking's around back, so you're kind of driving past everybody to get here, anyway. It's a big building, and even with just a part of it, MR has a huge space. Most winery (and brewery) tasting rooms can be laid out in funky, fun ways, because they're trying to scrape together enough room for the public to come bend an elbow. Not here. You walk in to a huge foyer, with high ceilings, lots of framed concert posters, and little dibs and dabs of seating here and there. Dark walls. Concrete floors. Well lit, but feels like you entered sort of a secret space. Or maybe it's so minimalist that it's not obvious about what it's doing. It's welcoming and cheerful despite the colors and minimalism. And maybe it seems less than obvious only because most winery tasting rooms seem the same (old barrels, vineyard photos, inexpensive furniture, etc) , and this one dares to look different. It seems to be entirely focused on retail and tasting. No production or aging happening that you can see. The staff are super friendly, and as you walk through to the cavernous main room they're already asking what you're up to today and what you'd like. You can get flights of the more everyday wines MR makes, or of the fancier stuff. Yesterday 5 tastes of each were $35 and $45, respectively. With tax, that's $88 for about 3 glasses' worth of wine, combined. To me, the value for this is there, because you're getting tastes of wine that all cost in the $50-100 range per bottle, so you can be certain of which ones are worth their bottle cost. If you buy a minimum amount they refund the flight fees. So it's much like any other winery tasting room's M.O., just at a higher price point. We came home with chardonnay bottles and syrah bottles--each was among the best examples we've had of those styles. Aside from tons of concert posters and photos framed on the walls, there are also vintage motorcycles parked around the tasting room. MR has multiple wines named for Pearl Jam songs, along with a whole sub-brand named for old cycles (Board Track Racer). More than most wineries, MR does a good job putting memorable names on their bottles, which makes it easy to keep track of them all. This is an especially good thing given that they have 5 different brands with different label/naming personalities, price points, and wine character. In the end, this is an easy place to come ask tons of questions and learn a lot about many different wines. They do have snacks, and of course plenty of bottles available to go. It's not quite a neighborhood watering hole but you do feel comfortable hanging out here and savoring everything, even if it takes a little while. You could easily hop from room to room around this complex and make an entire day's wine country "tour" out of it...provided someone else is driving you home. Highly recommended. read more

We walked in without a reservation. We were seated right away and then someone came over to ask if we had questions. She was able to help us decide what glass if wine would be best for all of us. They do have mostly bold reds, but she was able to make the best recommendations. I had the 2019 dead horse. Loved it. If you like dry reds, grab this next time you're there. Made reservations in advance by prepayment. Tasting fee can be applied towards $50 purchase. You could buy one bottle for $50 or you could buy two for $25 each and still get your tasting fee waived. The flight was presented in little carafes and we self poured the wine into our glasses. They have some little bites you can order too. IMO, the pours are too little. Could be a bit more generous! My favorite is the Dead Horse , 92% Cab Sauvignon. Oh, the rock and roll music art and the motorcycles give it a very chic ambiance. We (group of 4) risked walking in on a Sunday with no reservations and were able to get seated for a tasting. The wine is 5-stars while all the winery tasting rooms, traffic and parking chaos is 3-stars so I'll average it out be a 4-star experience. The wine is exceptional for the pricing and I'd definitely recommend joining one of their 2 wine clubs where you can get 10% or 15% cost saving on purchases with a lot more benefits. Search for their website to see the details for joining a wine club. The location is within walking distance to many different winery tasting rooms and very close to the Burke Gilman trail so many bikers dropping by for wine or food. I highly recommend you get a reservation before coming as dropping by may find you can't be seated for a tasting, especially during the weekends or on holidays. Matter of fact, you should research other tasting rooms within walking distance with Yelp and make two reservations with an hour in between for lunch or pizza at a near by restaurants. With a reservation you get 5 pours and the cost of the reservation and pours can be applied to bottle purchases. Again, check their website as things can change from the time this review is written and when you read and go to Mark Ryan Winery. We ended up joining the "Little Dissident Club" and purchased 6 bottles of wine on our 1st visit. So, we're definitely a fan. It's a shame we didn't discover this winery 5 years ago. Reserved for tasting thru Tock - advanced payment required. The tasting room is inside of a mall strip, alongside with many other tasting rooms. We choose Mark Ryan because it had the most reviews and presence on Tock - they also have a location in Walla Walla which gave an impression they are serious wine business (i.e. IMO produce quality wines, branding, estate grown fruits, and distribute outside of the region). We did a flight of 5 wines (about 1/4 of the list), the variety of wines were carried thru the nice carafe, and we redistribute among ourselves to the wine glass. I particular liked Long Haul, a blend of 72% merlot, 17% CS, 10% Cab Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot, a tasting note of tobacco, oak, blackberry and dried herbs. Each tasting fee of $20 applies toward $50 purchase. A great incentive to pick wines we like and walk away with nice bottles save for the future to enjoy! read more

It's always a fun time at Mark Ryan Winery. Compared to many of the wineries in Woodinville, this winery is very approachable, laid-back and lively. With that said, it always seems to be a stop of mine when in Woodinville. The tasting room is located among many other wineries and businesses in the Hollywood Schoolhouse District. Because it's in a retail space in a business strip, parking is plenty and can easily be found in the lot. The space is pretty large and open, which is nice, especially for large parties. There are a few tables to congregate around, but even when the place gets busy and there are no tables to claim, everyone seems to be okay with standing around, hovering around the bar or another open area while sipping on wines. That's what I like about this place. Everyone here is always chill, including the dogs! Staff is always very friendly and goes around with bottles of wine, to make sure whoever is doing tastings, that they're set for the next sample. I've always had great customer service here, no matter how busy it gets. The wines are solid at Mark Ryan. Of all the varieties, I like the Dissident wine the best, which is a red blend, primarily of cabernet sauvignon. You can't go wrong with this bottle of wine, as it has the perfect balance of smokiness and fruity. Be sure to try this one! Overall, Mark Ryan is a great place for wine tasting. If you want a more formal experience where you're able to sit down, sniff and sip, then this may not be for you. The funny thing about this area is that the tasting rooms are mostly in strip malls. So really, you're just kind of going to a bar that does only wine. Luckily, this place was recommended to us as having really good wine, and it did not disappoint. The tasting room is big, and there are a number of community tables, so expect to share your space on a busy weekend. Because we all like Pinots, we opted to go with the Megan Anne Pinot Noir tasting rather than the Mark West tasting that included other varietals. Such a bad experience today. Not worth the $25 tasting fee. The service when we first walked in was welcoming. We got a taste while we waited, which was great. Then, it went downhill. The attendant (?) did not share any details about the wine, and when we asked, she pointed out the information on the menu only, for us to read on our own. She left us with empty glasses for extended periods of time, and then mumbled the next tasting when she did approach. She never approached us to check out or purchase wines, so having prepaid the tastings, we just left! Absolutely terrible "tasting" experience, if that's what you're looking for. We had just come from JM Cellars which blew this experience out of the water. We've been to Mark Ryan 2 other times and had far better experiences,, so hopefully this is not a trend. Think this is my second or third time at Mark Ryan. There were about seven in our group and I believe my friend is a member of their wine club so were set up at a nice tasting table. The staff was friendly and informative. They were well versed on the each wine. We had a small cheese plate while we were there. The tasting went smoothly it was well paced there were very alert to when to do the next pour. The décor is mostly art of musicians mostly local I believe. I've always enjoyed their wines whenever I've visited or when sharing a bottle with a friend.
