The single person working there seem friendly enough. The overall vibe was a little bit between creepy and dorky. I ordered 2 shirts and a belt from Got Kilt! without issue but when I received my order the items did not fit. I followed the instructions on their website to initiate a return the day after I had received my order (August 22, 2022). I asked if I could simply exchange the items for a different size. Now after 4 emails and 4 phone calls to a number that goes to a voice mailbox that is full (It is now September 12. 2022) I have reached the realization that they are not going to reply nor do they care to do so. My last email mentioned that I will stop by their booth in Houston to attempt to return my items for a refund, I no longer want to do business with them. I hope this email impacts their ability to do business as it has limited my ability to purchase the items they offer. I will find another resource for my Renaissance Era clothing. Cool store with lots of Scottish/Irish clothing and accessories and some steampunk items, too. Stopped in here trying to evade some of the crowd outside on the sidewalk and was surprised by how nice this store was. Anyone who is Scottish would have to love this shop. Their selection of kilts was impressive, albeit a little on the expensive end, but if you want quality and selection, you probably aren't getting it for cheap, so it is going to cost $$$. They had lots of shirts, kilts and accessories for anyone looking for the full on Scottish effect. Other than kilts, I saw tons of novelty t-shirts and some interesting steampunk style articles of clothing and things like goggles and hats to accompany the look. They had some nice items with family crests on them and I found mine, too, while I was browsing, as well as some steins and things along those lines. The prices were high, but the merchandise seemed pretty nice. The employee who greeted me as I walked in the door was helpful, too. She told me that if there was something that I wanted and couldn't locate in the store, they could try ordering it for me. read more

If you're considering buying from this store, heed my warnings and that of previous reviewers. My husband ordered a kilt in March of this year after receiving a gift certificate for Christmas. We went to the store in-person and they didn't have the pattern and style he wanted in his size, so they said they would order it and have it shipped. It is now August 31st and we still do not have the kilt in hand. After several phone calls and e-mails (most of which were unreturned) we were finally told that the company would be sending a kilt similar to what was ordered but a "higher quality material". That was on August 17th-almost two weeks ago. Still no kilt, and we live two hours away from the store. I have shipped things internationally in less time. At this point, even if we do receive a kilt, which seems unlikely, my biggest issue is that the store offered to send us something we didn't order and didn't want (regardless of whether it's "higher quality") after 6 MONTHS. No offer for even a partial refund. No offer to give us what we asked for in the first place. Don't waste your money. read more

My family visited Got Kilt while in Frankenmuth this past weekend. We intended to go to the store Sunday morning and buy a sword for my son. We woke to the aftermath of an overnight ice storm. However, by the time we had breakfast and got into town, all of the stores were open...All except Got Kilt. There was a sign on the door stating that due to the weather the MIGHT open later. Fine, we walked around town and returned a couple of hours later to find that they were still closed. I called and left a message on their answering machine and told them that we were leaving for home...4 hours away...in a couple more hours and we would really appreciate a call about the sword we had seen there the day before. We received no return call nor have we since. What a shoddy way to do business. I can't believe a store wouldn't open on Frankenmuth's busiest shopping day of the year, but to not return a call in days following is ridiculous. I need to mention this same sword, very expensive, was there when we visited 2 years ago. Hope they enjoy the sword taking up space in the showcase instead of my money in their register. read more

I cannot in any capacity recommend doing business with Got Kilt. The problem stems from the fact that if you are to order an item that is not in stock at their store, you will not receive your purchase in the time frame specified (or perhaps even at all), nor will you receive anything remotely resembling the kind of service that a paying customer ought be given. I ordered a kilt in late March with the promise that it would arrive between 10-12 weeks later. It is now practically September and even getting hollow promises of a return call or email is like pulling teeth. This is not an isolated case. Other reviews below, reviews on Google, as well as complaints filed with the BBB of Michigan (https://www.bbb.org/detroit/business-reviews/clothing-retail/got-kilt-in-white-lake-mi-90012149) indicate that Got Kilt is not interested in an honest business. I had posted a somewhat more generous review on their FB page a couple of weeks ago. But, shortly afterwards, the administrator removed all reviews from the page. This is disappointing, but not surprising, since more people are having the same issues as I. In that review, I said that it may be worth your time to shop in person, if you only part with your money if the product was at hand in the store. However, I do not feel that way anymore. The thoroughly shameful practices at Got Kilt should not be rewarded. I can understand if there are issues with suppliers, but if that's the case, then stop accepting orders that you know you can't fulfill in the time frame you specify. Furthermore, stop dodging inquiries from the people who chose to support your business. They shouldn't be punished for your shortcomings. If an order cannot be filled in a reasonable time period, then a refund or a change to a different item should be offered. I was, eventually, offered the latter, but even that has yet to materialize. At this point in time I do not even care to own a kilt anymore. I just wish that I be given what I paid for. If Got Kilt continues to ignore that request, then it isn't a store. It is a scam. Please, save your money and reward businesses who actually respect their guests. read more

If it were possible to leave 0 stars I would. The man working there was incredibly rude, which is bad enough customer service as is... When I was looking at kilts and trying to figure out my size he forcibly took the kilt from my hand and put his hands on my body to "check the fit" without asking or checking to see if I was ok with him touching me. WARNING - DO NOT ORDER ANYTHING FROM THIS STORE, THEY TAKE YOUR MONEY BUT YOU WILL NOT GET TOUR ORDER! I wanted to purchase a Kilt from this store when they had a booth setup at the Renissance Festival in Holly Michigan back in September 2018. They didn't have the one I wanted in stock, so they said I could pay for it, and they would ship in when it comes in. It was supposed to be about 8 to 10 weeks, and they would call me when it was shipping. I started calling them after 10 weeks and spoke to Pat. She said shipments were delayed, and was going to investigate. I called again the next month and spoke to her again..... still nothing, but she said she would let the owner know and he will get back with me. Again, no contact from them so I called the next month (now its December), and she said they were really busy and will contact the owner to get back with me on my order. After another month of no contact, I spoke to her again in January 2019, and she said the same thing. She would investigate, and will get back with me. Along comes February 2019, and still no contact from anyone. I finally sent them a FB message, and got the same excuses. I told them I wanted a refund. Now it's February 17th and I had to make a trip up to Frankenmuth to get my refund. Pat gave me my money back, but still had excuses on why my order was not available, and why I was never contacted. Here is what she said: 1) They only have four employees, and it's hard to keep up on orders. 2) The owner is always traveling, and very busy. 3) The people working at the festival are not employed by them, they work for the festival. Excuses, excuses, and more excuses. As a paying customer, these problems are not mine, they are the responsibility of the owner to address. Things would be different if they would have called or stayed in communication with me...... but here we are almost six months later and they never even tried to take care of the problem or contact me in any way. Disappointed. We went to the Frankenmuth Michigan location. We spent about $400. Part was a special order for a kilt and facial masks. We were told approx 3-4 w from the owner. I forgot his unique name. A month went by. I had no special order delievered. I called and was told it would take another 3-4 weeks. I got the feeling as if my order was never started. I called again 4 Weeks later and eventually received my kilt. No masks. I was given the number to call the owner direct. The owner never apologized after I explained the kilt situation and the masks. He was rude. Un happy I didn't have the order number even though I could see order forms everywhere even I was there in disarray. Again no apology and my masks weren't even made. I was even offered different tartan! So they weren't even started and no one bothered to notify me that there was an issue getting the tartan I requested? We were also overcharged a $70 'misc' charge that we went back in to get reversed before all of this began. Money is hard to come by. Spending$400 is hard to come by. Caring and apologizing go a long way. Never received an apology which is why I'm writing this. I've read plenty other negative reviews. Buyer beware. read more

My friend, Stephanie, and I purchased custom kilts from Got Kilt at the Renaissance Festival not last year, but the year before. They informed us that there was a hefty wait time, which we weren't worried about, because we wanted them for the following year. Six months passed, so we started reaching out. We're friendly ladies, so we weren't super pushy. No one got back to us, repeatedly. We tried going to the store in Frankenmuth and speaking with the staff there. They gave us an email address and phone number for the owner, who repeatedly ignored us. At last year's Renaissance Festival, we went to the same booth and explained the situation. We provided a copy of the receipt and order number. The owner wrote down all of the information and promised to take care of it promptly. Still nothing... Stephanie emailed him again in November. He responded, apologized, and said he would make it up to us. She emailed again over the holidays. No response. She just emailed again today asking for a credit. Clearly, our experience has been less than positive. We're just hoping for our money back at this point... read more

Beware of ordering anything from this store. I ordered a USMC tartan in January of 2020. I understand about the Pandemic but they will not respond as to when I might receive it. I've offered to email and or call the vendor they order from but to no avail. I've emailed or called weekly. No one can or will tell me anything I seem to be out over a 100 bucks. I placed an order on September 22nd 2017. It was for a custom Kilt in my family's tartan, sock flashes, fly plaid and bonnet. I was ordering this 1 to have my families plaid in Kilt form. 2 to have formal attire for getting married. I was told there would be a 10 week minimum which would be the beginning of December. I emailed in December inquiring what the status was and didn't get a response until January. The response said it would be several more months. I kept checking back once a month or so and pretty much was given the same answer each time. I had a Scottish broadsword demonstration that I was helping put on at a local Scottish Festival and was hoping for The Kilt to be finished in time for that. That was at the end of May. The owner, Dirk, said he thought it would be done for the festival... 0 follow through. At this point I started getting frustrated and began asking wear the Kilt was on the company's Facebook page. This was completely ignored until they decided just to block me. I had to file a claim with the Better Business Bureau before he took me seriously enough to actually issue me a refund check. This was about the 40-week mark. This company is a joke. If you run across them at a festival, they have some nice shirts and other accoutrements but do not for any reason place any order with them or you will never receive it. Got-Kilt has really disappointed me in the way they run their business. My daughter paid about $400 for a kilt that was special order in May and has not received it. They refuse to talk to her anymore, they have NOT refunded her money and claim the order is lost. They quit responding to her emails. I strongly suggest not buying anything from them period. If you do, you better get it in your hands at the time of purchase. It's time to get the lawyers involved. read more
