They were very informative, but I decided it was best to leave it to the expert himself, especially since I don't have an infinite amount of VCRs to switch between. Haha. Phil is absolutely phenomenal! I was looking on YouTube for a way to transfer my data from our old Sony Camcorder discs and luckily stumbled upon an informational video uploaded by Phil about the very thing I was looking for. The video was great, but I knew I was probably in over my head so I called the number right then (after business hours) and he picked up! I knew he was based in Phoenix but wanted to know if there was a store front so I could drop everything off. I told him what I had and he assured me it wouldn't be a problem transferring everything. I had some cassette tapes from an earlier camcorder, also not a problem he said. Later he texted me with directions (and another helpful video!) on how to "finalize" my discs so he didn't have to charge me for that if I was able to do it. (I still had the camcorder and was able to easily follow the directions.) Phil knows what he's doing!!! Send everything you have to him right now. Stop putting off this chore and instead take a walk or two down memory lane with your new digitized videos! He sent everything back about a week later with a jump drive. Got Memories did a tremendous job digitizing our 8mm and Super 8mm silent and sound home movies! These 193 reels cover our family's history from 1943 thru 1989 and are priceless. Phil and his team at Got Memories were careful with these ancient artifacts of history and were able to restore them to all their colorful glory so that we can enjoy them well into the 21st century and beyond. Got Memories is one of the only firms, that I know of, that digitizes each roll without splicing them onto larger reels. While this may increase the labor on their part, it preserves each 50 foot roll with their corresponding boxes that contain priceless details regarding dates and people contained therein. Amazing quality VHS to digital conversion! Phil has a passion for his work and for customer service. If you're trying to decide where to take your precious VHS tapes to have converted to digital, look no further. When you walk into Phil's shop you can see first hand all the high end equipment he uses for the conversions. I had full confidence that I found the best place to take my VHS tapes. Phil gives you his cell number and texts you with updates during the process. It doesn't get any better than this. I had originally considered sending my tapes to an online service but quickly realized the dangers with that. I had a friend tell me she sent her tapes out to a large online company and the tapes got lost and were never found. So sad. After going through the process with Phil I fully understood even more why having a smaller family owned business like Phil's shop do the work. It's so important to know who is going to be doing the work and that they actually CARE about their work and service. I had a total of 35 VHS tapes converted to DVD and USB drives. I had 4 total copies of the USB drives made. The quality of the videos looks amazing. All tapes are numbered and the digital videos are also number with their corresponding tape number. Hello. My name is Brandon McCloskey, and this review is for Got Memories. On September 10th I made contact with them through their website. And on that date I was actually getting ready to place an order with Legacybox. And I wanted to do some last-minute research, because we're talking about precious memories. I was going to be shipping off some Super 8 reels, 19 of them, to be exact, and I just wanted to feel good about this decision. So, after doing a little bit more research, I came across Got Memories and their YouTube channel, and I was amazed at the side-by-side they showed me between Legacybox and what they can do. And so, I went ahead and watched more YouTube videos, read the reviews online, and I decided this is the company I want to go with. So, I went ahead and sent them a message. They got a hold of me a day later. He gave me a quote that was very fair. On September 12th he sent me the invoice, I made the payment. He sent me a UPS label, already paid, so I can get it to them. I got the box put together, and on the 13th I sent it to him. And here it is, about a week later, the 20th of September, and just something in me told me that it was ready. And so, I sent an inquiry to see how it was going, and Phil got back to me and said it was all done. He sent me a download link. He sent me a UPS email saying that my reels were on their way back to me, because that's what I requested. So, then I downloaded them. He did warn me that some of the reels were dark, and honestly, I was surprised to get anything back, because these reels were from the late 60s and 70s, and they had been through various forms of storage. They had always been in this tin that I have, and they've been in storage sheds, they've been in warm environments, cold environments, boxes, buckets, various things. So, I was just surprised to get anything back. And so, when I downloaded them, I took a deep breath and hit play... For the younglings watching this video, Super 8 rarely recorded audio, and if you had an audio recording one, you were blessed, and you obviously had some money. So, I went ahead and watched them, and it was amazing to relive those moments. Number one, I forgot that they were only three minutes long. And number two, it was just- the quality was unbelievable. For the most part it was vibrant and bright. It was like you were watching it from a modern day camcorder in some instances. And so, it took me right back to my childhood, because once or twice a year we would break out the old projector and projected it on the screen that my mom and dad had. So, it was nice seeing those memories again. My mom had passed away this past January, and my dad passed away in 1995. And so, being able to see them again, it was so awesome. And then, my oldest sister was in several of the videos, and seeing her as a baby - which, obviously, being the middle child, I probably don't remember her as a baby. So, being able to see those memories again, and having them in digital format where they're going to be safe for years to come, and being able to pass those along to my three sisters that are still with us... It was amazing. And the fact that he got it done so quickly, when some reviews have said months -- I was a little worried -- but he just got it to me real quick. And he's already given me a very good quote on VHS conversion. I'm in the process of compiling those. I'm hoping to get those shipped off next week. And when I do, I'll review them, and I'll make another review and send it over to Phil to put on his channel. But I definitely recommend them. If you have any questions, you're more than welcome to reach out to me. But definitely, Got Memories - don't go with the Big Box stores, don't go to Costco. I use them for VHS, but I'll talk about that next time. But don't go to Big Box, support local businesses, support small businesses, because the small business cares more, and they're going to do more for you, and they're going to do a really good job like Phil did for me. This guy is incredible and very knowledgeable about the ins and outs of VCRs/Tapes etc. He's very straight forward and won't feed you nonsense before seeing your tapes. He called me as soon as he received my tapes and immediately starting checking them out to see what he was working with. I had a bunch of old dusty VHS home videos that weren't playing correctly at home anymore. We kept them in decent temperature but they weren't stored carefully, not taken care of at all over the years. He spent extra time configuring a VCR to realign my tapes and clean them up so they played correctly. The finished product he delivered was beyond amazing compared to what I would have had. I had Phil digitize 36 reels of old Super 8 film that had been stashed away in a closet for the past 60 years or so. He was incredibly responsive throughout the process--usually responding to my questions within a few hours--and thoroughly professional. I had some old VHS tapes I wanted to be made digital. I had a VHS player from eBay...put in 2 test VHS tapes. Both got eaten, This place is very correct about needing maintained VHS players. Before I found out about this place I read reviews in others. Extremely long wait, shoddy quality, no communication. Then saw this place pop up as I wanted to support local business and they are on it with their YouTube page. They know their stuff. I reached out and got a text back with a quote, sent my tapes out as they asked and a week later I had the digital video to download and solid audio and video considering it was 40 year old VHS tapes. Basically if you want to convert, really , spend the little extra here and have it done right, this is probably the only time you will convert so do it right. Worth every penny. Again. About a decade ago, I bought a device to do convert our old videos, but it was such a pain in the a$$ that I dreaded doing it again, and instead just let the tapes collect dust in the closet. I happened to see the LegacyBox ad and was reminded of that miserable project and finally decided to bite the bullet and pay someone to do it. After reading many reviews, I decided against LegacyBox because so many people had their materials get lost in the mail. That meant I had to go local. I did my research and landed on two companies here in the Valley. One got back to me right away and one I'm still waiting on, a week later. Obviously I went with the one that responded... Got Memories. Phil had me make an appointment so that he could focus on my project without interruption. I told him I wasn't in a rush to get the 20 items converted (how hypocritical that would've been!) but he said he'd probably have it done within a week. (Seriously???) He gave me advice on how to convert a couple of audio cassettes myself since he doesn't offer that service and off I went. Two days later Phil contacted me to say the project was done. That certainly could not be true. We made another appointment and sure enough, he showed me random clips from various tapes and it was in fact my family! I have nothing but great things to say about Got Memories. We converted 18 of my wife's childhood home cassette tapes to digital format. I'm so happy I found Got Memories! I recently found a box with 17 reels of 8mm movies from 1968-1970.
