You don't want to go anywhere else for your video transfers! I found Got Memories years ago doing an online search of companies that do video transfers and was happy to learn that they had a local shop around the corner from my office. Anyone who knows me knows that my photos and videos of my children and family are some of my most prized possessions and I couldn't imagine sending them in the mail or using some big corporation, taking the risk that my film could possibly get lost or mishandled. I needed to know that if I was turning my video over to someone I could trust that they would handle it with care and do great quality work. Got Memories met every expectation I had and more... then and now! I recently went back to them with 17 video cassette tapes that I found in storage. The fee per cassette was just a little bit higher than another company I found online, but the reason I chose to go back to Got Memories was first of all - because of my initial great personalized experience and secondly - because the other company that I called was a toll free number, wasn't sure who the random person was on the other end of the phone and they said it would be a few weeks before I was able to get the transfer completed. When I called Got Memories, I spoke to Phil, the owner, who introduced himself and asked me for my info, pulled my account up while I was on the call, asked me some questions and chatted for a while on the call about what I was trying to accomplish and the options I had. When I went to drop off the videos, Phil was friendly, professional and personable, he explained the process and what I should expect, when I should expect them completed, and ended up charging me less than I expected because they found that 5 of the video cassettes that I submitted were actually blank, which tells me they are also an honest and ethical company. Did I mention all of the videos are amazing quality! I wasn't sure what to expect because some of this was stored in the heat and they turned out awesome. I live in Michigan and came across a Youtube video for Got Memories? as I searched the web for a video transfer company. I submitted a request for a quote, based on what I thought I might have transferred. I not only received a quick reply with the estimate, but Phil called me that day to discuss what I wanted and took time to listen to my thoughts and questions. My first project was a combination of 32 VHS/cassette/mini discs and I am delighted with the results. I'm glad I finally moved forward with this project that was always on my list of things to do, but never seemed to get done. In addition to a couple of flash drives I requested, I received a Dropbox file that I was able to learn how to download and then uploaded the files into my Google Drive. I've shared viewing privileges with multiple family members around the country, so we can all enjoy these videos on our computers, TVs, phones, etc.. It's so neat to pull up any of the videos from the Google Drive app on my phone whenever I want to smile. I was so happy with the results that I moved forward on 70 reels of 8mm film of which some was close to 70 years old. I had a lot of Super 8 sound film to convert to digital. When I researched different ways to transfer, I quickly learned that the sound component of my tapes made matters complicated. Gotmemories.com did a great job with my family's priceless films. Got Memories restored more than I thought possible from very very old 16mm movie tape. Specifically, I sent them 17 reels of 16mm tape that dated from 1929-1939. 16 of them turned out great. (yes, that's right, some of the tape was from 1929, 84 years ago! ) This hardly seems possible, but my subsequent Internet research shows that Kodak began selling movie film to amateurs in 1923 and several additional companies (Bell and Howell, etc) started selling movie cameras to amateurs in 1928.. Apparently my grandfather was lucky enough to afford an amateur movie camera from the late 1920s, and a few months ago I found the tapes in a dry box in my fathers storage locker. (FYI, in 1928 these cameras cost $400, almost as much as a new $450 Model T.) Two of the films restored by Gotmemories show my father as no more than a 4yo boy (in 1929), and some other films show my aunt as an infant. My aunt is celebrating her 80th birthday later this year!! Gotmemories helped me restore this priceless video treasure and the family and I am thrilled. My main regret was not doing this sooner when more relatives could have enjoyed it. In addition to the TLC provided by Gotmemories, the (low heat) transfer from film to DVD was done at a very competitive price (I did shop around) and the film was returned to me in the exact condition that I sent it. Since my tapes were so old, the low heat transfer methodology seemed important and I was not disappointed. B&W 16mm conversion was excellent, and the one color film (where the Kodak film box warns "develop before June 1, 1936") was a little less successful, but GM still recovered much more than I thought possible from these 80 year old amateur films. Highly recommended service! I just found a few more reels of film and will not hesitate to use Got Memories again. read more

I was pleasantly surprised that even though I wasn't in a hurry my flash drive was ready the next morning. Gotmemories sure trumps the first place I tried, called scandigital.com . Honestly, I cannot comment on the QUALITY of the transfer yet, but I can certainly comment on the SPEED. I sent two boxes of tapes to be transferred to DVD, 2 weeks ago. Never received a confirmation that they'd been received. And it cost nearly $10 dollars per box just to ship them, because Scandigital REQUIRES shipping by UPS. OK, methinks, at least I got the transfer for 1/2 off, because of my groupon.com deal. So instead of $20 per tape, it's only ten bucks each. The 2 groupons I got only covered the 2 boxes, and I had 7 tapes still to process, so I decided to compare online prices for converting those. Locally, I could only find $15/tape here in the tiny village of Los Angeles. But then I stumbled upon gotmemories.com . This place had glowing reviews for quality and their prices were - get this, now - SEVEN DOLLARS EACH! They're not far - just in Arizona - and their site shows you how to pack them up for shipping and all the little details. So, the next day, I sent my remaining tapes to GotMemories? and this time, by USPS, for a whopping $4. Already, I'm liking this. On July 8th got a confirmation that they'd received the tapes. Yesterday got a notice that THEY'RE ALREADY SHIPPING THEM BACK! That's a five day turnaround, folks! So, for gotmemories.com, we've got Price, Quality and Speed. Scandigital isn't even on the radar...even at half-price! 7/26/2011 Just an update - I received my DVD's a day or two after I wroter the review and the quality is TOP NOTCH! These videos were taken on a nearly-high-def Sony camcorder that required a "Firewire" output to get the maximum quality for a download. Their FW output never worked, for some reason, so the only videos I'd been able to output were through a USB port and were nothing to brag about. Got Memories must be really on the ball, technically, cause these came out looking like at least 720P on my big plasma screen! This all started when I came across a container full of old home movie formats; starting with the old Kodak Super 8 film that my Dad shot of me and my siblings back in the 1970's up to VHS & camcorder tapes into the 1990's. I wanted to get them digitized to files so I could share them with my family and store them online. I called around a few local places and also looked at shipping them to other companies. I came across Got Memories on YouTube with videos 'starring' the owner Phil, demonstrating how they transfer film and various other helpful videos that really put me at ease seeing the facility, faces & equipment used. I had one copy of my home movies and handing them over to complete strangers was a little nerve wracking. What's more, I checked out their reviews online and they were excellent! Not only did I get a personal phone call right after I placed my order, but Raylene stayed in touch with me and answered my questions and concerns immediately after each of my e-mails. The transfer of 18 reels of 8mm film to a flash drive came out superbly. The colors are as vibrant as the original films. They even used a cleaning process to remove some of the speckles and stripes that had occurred due to the age (over 60 years) of many of these films. There were major problems with my mini dv to digital transfer. As the videos looked fine when directly played from the tape on my video camera, I thought it a problem on got memories side, and gave them a one star rating. The owner explained that if the tracking is off on my camera, it will be the only playback device that will work. I can accept that. So although my transfer of mini dv from a Canon GL1 was a fail; it was not due to poor oversight. A four star rating is given because of their reach out to explain the probable cause, and offer store credit on the failed transfers. read more

What a professional operation, I brought in about a dozen 15 -20 year old VHS tapes of my daughter growing up, despite the degradation of some of the tapes, they took the time to make the digitized version as clean as possible. FANTASTIC video transfer experience! I had over 30 super 8 video tapes that my family had been dying to transfer. We postponed the process because other places were quoting us $25/tape or a certain dollar amount per hour. I found Got Memories on ebay (they have stellar reviews) and contacted Phil the next day. Their prices were by far the lowest I have seen and I got in right when they were having a sale of $5/tape. I just got my DVDs back and they look great! Everything is in order with no gliches. I even had 5 tapes that were blank and they very quickly refunded my money. Throughout the process, the Got Memories team was also so helpful. I had so many questions about what kind of tape I had, what format they would be returned to me in, burning copies, when they would be done, etc. and they walked me through everything patiently and politely. I have quite a few super 8 and 8 mm films my dad gave me to get converted. They are quite priceless to our family so I decided to use this place because most other places outsource the work but this place does it in house. Here are the pros and cons: Pros: -Videos converted in house so less handling of them and less chance of them getting lost -Quality of videos came out great. We brought some in as far back as the 60's and after they were converted the quality is quite impressive -The converted videos are completely editable Cons: -Time frame - We brought in 37 reels and were told it would take about 6 weeks. It was more like 8. This wasn't a big deal but just a quick phone call to give us an update would have been sufficient. -Communication - Very poor communication. After week 8 was almost over of not hearing from them we contacted them to find out how the videos were coming along. The woman whom answered at first didn't know where they were and gave excuses (like east coast orders were shipped first, there were a lot of videos, and so on). It left me stressed and worried that something happened to the videos. She then said they should be done the next week. The next week rolls around and we still didn't hear from them so called and they informed us the videos were ready. It was frustrating they didn't have the sense to give us a call or email to tell us they were ready. -The woman running the front desk is unfriendly. Sometimes it doesn't matter the quality of the product if the customer service is poor. -Price - It came out very expensive but I'm guessing it will be expensive regardless of where you go. They offer discounts but are reluctant to give them. -The dvd's came back named in just general titles. The original film we brought in was all dated and titled so now we have to do a lot of work to try and date the videos and figure out what is what. Because of the high price of having these converted, it seems like it would be included to slap on the date of the videos. In the end we will not be using their service again. We still have quite a few more that need to be converted and would have been spending a lot money there but the poor customer service in my mind is not forgivable. read more

I brought in a small box of 8MM films plus a roll of 16MM to have transferred to digital files I could edit. My grandmother gave me these films back in 1999 and they date between 1961 and 1980. The costs for transferring films was so expensive fifteen years ago that I didn't even bother to try. But today is a different story. I am more than pleased with the speed, quality, and professionalism Got Memories provided. They even put all 25 films in the right order based on the little stickies I had on each can. I found Got Memories on yelp and I decided to go with them based on the good reviews and the fact that they have a Yelp deal. I called them and asked if I could have my 19 VHS tapes done in a week and they said that wouldn't be a problem. After talking to them I was super stoked that not only did they have a Yelp deal, but they would also be able to get my order done before Christmas. When I arrived I told them that I had a Yelp deal that I would like to use, and lets say they were less than pleased. They accused Yelp of stealing all their money and overall they made me very uncomfortable. About a week later they found that one of my VHS tapes was five and a half hours long, which was three and a half hours over the standard time limit. This meant that they would charge extra for each hour over their two-hour time limit. They left a message on my phone saying that I needed to give them the ok before they started transferring the tape. When I called back five minutes later the lady informed me that they already stated transferring the VHS without my ok and her reasoning was "it's a family video, it's what you wanted right". I would have liked to have the chance to make that decision for myself especially because that one tape cost me $30. Bottom line they finished my tapes on time, but their customer service was less than sub-par. read more
