I highly recommend Andy. He was very professional and always on time for our lessons. He helped me shake out some of those nerves before the road test to help me be more calm & successfully pass. Driving has been my biggest challenge and I'm glad I signed up for the 6-7 lessons package. Although I'm still a new driver I feel so much more confident. Andy helped me work on problem areas such as my left/right turns, steering the wheel correctly and merging. Andy was straightforward and didn't make me feel overwhelmed. Whenever I messed up he was very patient and would make me laugh and encouraged me to try again. Practicing with Andy has made me feel less afraid to drive and parallel park!!! This school is now doing a drivers ed program at Maria Regina High School. I used Gotham for my older son to learn to drive and he did great with them. My younger son needed drivers ed and he took their program. I was skeptical at first because students do not usually get individual time in the car with drivers Ed but despite this he still was able to learn a lot during his lessons. Surprisingly he also enjoyed being with other kids in the car and said that Mark made the environment feel very supportive for him. So he got a great learning experience and Im getting the discount off my insurance for him completing the program. I was very nervous to drive as an adult learner. Mark was a great teacher and helped me feel confident about my driving. He also taught me useful driving techniques beyond just what was on the driving test. He was honest about my driving skills and explained problem areas in a very straightforward manner. He never yelled if I messed up and he was very patient. Thanks to him, parallel parking was the easiest part of my road test and I now have my license! Prices are easy to find on the website (no hidden fees or unexpected costs). I also like that his driving school only takes one student at a time to the driving test. Mark is in high demand as an instructor, so it is harder to schedule classes with him than with other instructors at the school, but it was worth it for me. I highly recommend Gotham and mark in particular. I never had issues with scheduling and Irene normally picked up the phone when I called (she was always lovely over the phone). Note that DMV road tests are scheduled months in advance right now (I heard they closed a while during covid so that might be why it's backed up) so if the driving school schedules your test, don't be surprised if it's 2-3 months from now, but it's not Gotham's fault. If you want a sooner test, you need to schedule yourself and keep checking at all hours because you can find canceled earlier appointments that way on the DMV website. read more

I absolutely adore this driving school! From the no-nonsense office manager to my amazing instructor, Bonnie! Her energy made me feel comfortable and confident from the first time I got into the car. She's extremely detailed, knowledgeable and she has the patience of a saint. Plus, we laugh together, which calms my nerves. I went to three different driving schools. This one I liked the best. Bonnie was my instructor. Firstly, she is nice a person. Very friendly. She is like a neighbor. (she is a neighbor). Sometimes, she is in a funny mood but that's her charm. She let me drive however I want and helped me only when I need. For other schools, I felt like they don't care if I pass the test or not. But she cares. I passed with Bonnie's instruction. (I failed the test terribly with 90 points with another school...lol) You can do it if I could do it. read more

I passed my road test this morning thanks to God, prayers of loved ones and last but not least; the best driving instructor I've ever known, Mark!! The lessons with him were worth every penny. He's patient, knowledgeable and an excellent teacher. He really takes what skills you have (or lack thereof) and HELPS you make them exponentially better. He makes you believe in yourself, gives you (working!) tools and puts them to the test! I had only 3 lessons with him and in those 3 lessons, my confidence has risen greatly. Purchased 5,1 hour lessons and I must admit, Loving driving around now enjoying the freedom. I've noticed tremendous improvement and progress straight away, just after 1st lesson. Mark is a great instructor and identifies learning gaps immediately. He creates very good, stress free atmosphere which helps a lot with learning. I would like to thank Mark, who put in a lot of time to ensure that I was prepared. I felt very grateful that he showed great care towards the idea of me passing my driving test. He shows a large amount of commitment to his students and the techniques he uses in order to initially teach you how to drive is easy to understand and allows you to drive at a high standard at all times, which is perfect preparation for your driving test. Took my pre-licensing class here along with 5 hours of driving classes. Each class is an hour long where you drive through the busy streets of the Bronx and the quite streets of Riverdale. They make sure to schedule a class right before your scheduled road test so you go in warmed up. They also schedule the road test for you if you want. I was driving for a bit with my permit so my skills were pretty good but I don't think I would've passed if it wasn't for all the pointers Marc and Eddy gave me. They've been doing this for over 16 years so they have a lot of wisdom to pass down. They are very well versed on the road test and the latest rules of the road. Marc is a great instructor I had him for 4 of my 5 classes and he is a very chill and friendly dude who always constructively criticizes I've never once felt demeaned or angry with him. He has great stories to tell and a great sense of humor and the hour just zips by! I would definitely recommend taking one class with Eddy because he is very tense and it kinda simulated the real test for me which was great practice. He will point out every little mistake you make but it's good and makes you a better driver. The lady at the front desk, Irene, is also very nice! She kinda talks like my mom. TL;DR - I've had my share of driving schools and I've failed the road test four times. This time around with Gotham Driving School, I FINALLY PASSED! Eddie was my instructor. This place is awesome. Go here! My primary issue was parallel parking and Eddie explained it so simply that it's a wonder why I didn't know this sooner. FYI - I took my road test on 234th and Broadway in the Bronx. Long Version - I signed up for the five hour class which was taught by Jim Chodan. Jim is just an amazing teacher. In all seriousness, I've taken the five hour class before with a number of different schools (this is how much work I needed with driving), and for once, Jim's class actually taught me a slew of things I didn't already know. He keeps the class casual, but really emphasizes safety. "Death comes from the left" is a mantra I am keeping with me. Usually the five hour classes are boring, but Jim managed to keep everyone's attention. Along with the class, I paid for five driving lessons and a road test appointment. The five lessons were with Eddie. He does point out mistakes made or things that could be done better as other Yelpers have mentioned, but it honestly made me feel much more prepared for the test and for life after the test. Eddie did grab the wheel from me a few times to avoid potential accidents and did become stern when I wasn't using my head, but it's a lot of tough love; you can't take this kind of thing personally when you're operating a car. For me, Eddie was straight forward, helpful and took the time to make sure I knew how to THINK before I acted in tricky situations. Eddie also pushed me to start using the horn when I see something suspicious on the road that might pose a danger to myself and/or others which I also appreciated. After I passed my road test I literally hugged the man and thanked him. I wholeheartedly recommend Gotham Driving School - they really set out to teach their students the right way to drive. read more

I was 34 when I decided to *finally* get my license, so I went to Gotham for driving lessons. I've never felt comfortable behind the wheel, but their instructor Mark G. is a master at keeping people calm cool and collected and focused on driving safely. Thanks to his instruction I passed my test with no problem and a few short weeks after getting my license there was a situation which required me to make a number of emergency trips to help a family member out. When other drivers pull up next to you during a lesson to tell you what a great driving school it is and a random lady in an elevator sees you get out of the Gotham car and tells you that she "loves Eddy" you know its good. I had Eddy for all my lessons, great, patient instructor. He knows how to put you at ease behind the wheel of a car. What a horrible experience with this school. I signed up for 6 classes and the 5 hour class. I wound up taking 2 classes. My instructor Eddy raised his voice at me during the lessons, grabbed my arm twice, asked "what is wrong with me" when I made a wide turn. When I tried to ask him questions on technique he told me to "drop it" and cut me off. When I called the office to cancel the rest of my classes his wife refused to refund the money on the card I paid with - stating she didn't want to be charged from the bank. And after a 20 min phone call she said she will refund the balance less $10 via check. I can't say how the other instructors are but I would never go back to this school or recommend them to anyone. read more

I had been trying to get my license for years when I had previously lived in Canada with my family, and had failed a few times. When I decided to get my license in New York, I found Gotham through Google and Yelp, and I'm very glad I did. I did both the pre-licensing course and a 4-hour lesson package with Mark, along with my road test appointment. He was clear, straightforward, friendly and relaxed and managed to put some confidence in someone who had become quite disillusioned with driving. My brother bought me a birthday gift last year, 3 lessons and a driving course class, I had a year on it but I was very busy lot of family stuff going on. I called today and asked if I can extend it just a bit so I don't loose out on the money. The lady I spoke to was the nastiest woman not only did she scream at me saying ' You had a year on this it's not my fault you didn't use it' I tried to explain to her I had a lot of personal things going on not only she didn't want to hear it she was rude, unpleasant and straight out nasty as can be. I don't recommend this place to anyone trying to get there license. The lady is the manger, how she became a manger is a surprise to me. She has 0 customer service. Stay Away!! read more

I am happy to say that I had passed my road test today! I couldn't have done it without Mark. He is a great instructor! I highly recommend him to anyone who wants to learn how to drive properly. Mark's instruction on different elements of how to park and do the three point turn is spot on. Parking has always been a problem area for me. But, following his simple steps on how to parallel park was perfect. On the road test it was not a problem for me. I took refresher driving classes with Marc Goldstein and he's great, has a lot of patience.

Great school! I believe this is a family owned business which means you'll either be taking lessons with either Eddy the father or Mark the son, both are great instructors. I took the beginners packet which consist of 10 lessons, each an hour long, the 5 hours class and the scheduled road test. I took 5 lessons with Eddy and the other 5 with Mark. If you can deal with constructive criticism and lots of tough love then Eddy is the guy for you. Eddy is an older gentleman who has a intense way of teaching but will definitely get you prepared for the test. As stated in a previous review he does point out every little mistake and he may get a little irritated if you keep messing up. I am a bit sensitive so I asked to be switched to Mark, the lady at the front desk Irene, who I believe to be Eddy's wife was very sweet and understanding. She accommodated my needs accordingly. Mark is very laid back guy who will make you feel very comfortable and confident. He has a very relaxed style of teaching. He talks to you during the lesson to get you to feel at ease. Either instructor will prepare you for the test. Before taking these lessons I drove around in a parking lot probably 3 times for about 20 minutes each time or less, I had no idea how to drive. I took my pre licensing course together with a 10 hours of driving lessons. It was my first time driving so I was a bit nervous. Ed my instructor is amazing. He is very helpful, calm, friendly, and is always encouraging you. Everyday we would do something different and drive in different places, which was very helpful in preparing me for the road test. I signed up for Yelp simply so that I could write a review about Gotham Driving School. I am one that believes if you know of a good thing, share so others may benefit from it. I took only four lessons with Mark G. and passed my DMV Road Test after having failed TWICE due to incorrect parallel parking. He makes you feel confident, he is firm yet gentle in his instructions and he has the best iTunes collection ever. Its like driving around with your favorite DJ for 45 minutes. He gave a few simple tips that made parallel parking a breeze, something that I thought I would never be able to perfect. The most awesome part of this school is that it is AFFORDABLE!!!
