I could not have asked for a better driving school to not only help me obtain my license but to help me to truly KNOW what it means to be a good driver. Right now, I am 32, and I last drove in a car when I was 16, but I never managed to get my license! This year, I decided I would become a licensed driver before the year was out, and Acropolis wanted to see me succeed in this endeavor. From trunk to horn, as it were, my experience at Acropolis was exactly what I hoped it would be. Firstly, the ladies at the front desk are so, so kind. I cannot say it more emphatically! Never will you meet nicer people who want better for you! Lissy, Estephany, and Iralda went out of their way to make me feel welcome, comfortable, and calm! And everyone knows that a good feeling is key to driving well in the car. It really felt like a family helping you to drive. And I so appreciated their enthusiasm and bolstering. They even went out of their way to make some specific arrangements for me in terms of car and lesson schedule when I went to take my road test! They did not have to do this, but it really helped me to feel confident about passing and so they went above and beyond to help accommodate me! And I cannot say thank you enough! Acropolis is also SO organized. It is amazing. They would text me the night before every single lesson and always made sure I knew what my schedule was. If I needed to move classes, they would always accommodate me, and the classes always began and ended exactly on time! When it came to being behind the wheel, Acropolis very smartly kept most of my lessons with one instructor, but sometimes changed the car and teacher to help simulate real driving environments. This method gives you a core guide to learn from in a solid way, but also gives you access to different driving perspectives and tests your abilities to be in a new car with a new person. Acropolis also always has both the goal of making you an excellent driver and the goal of you getting your license in mind. These may sound the same, but they actually require two different skill sets from instructor and student. And both are equally important to seeing you onto the road! Acropolis gave both to me! During my lessons, my two main instructors were Miguel and Marlene. And truly, I cannot say enough about either one of them! Miguel was my instructor for the first half of my lessons. And he was such a calm and solid presence in the car when I was so nervous at first. Crucially, he really wanted to focus on the overall experience of driving. The important outcome in our lessons was not passing one road test necessarily, but that I really knew how to drive. I appreciate so much the core fundamentals of driving that he instilled in me and how at ease he made me behind the wheel. Marlene was then my instructor for the second half of my lessons! Firstly, Marlene is so cool and funny. And she has a knack for breaking down the complex module of driving into easily understood pieces that can be executed. She explained maneuvers to me in a way that I could think about while not in the car and review by myself, which was exactly what I needed. Marlene understands how to slowly evolve a student and how to get them ready for whichever road test they are taking specifically, which is a tremendous kindness. I booked their ten-lesson package, and from day one I knew something was wrong. My first lesson consisted largely of driving around the Dyckman Marina while the instructor was on the phone handling personal conversations. Unfortunately, this became a recurring pattern throughout my lessons. A significant amount of paid lesson time was spent listening to personal phone calls instead of receiving instruction, feedback, or guidance. The overall teaching environment was also unnecessarily unpleasant at times. Instead of maintaining a calm and professional attitude during lessons, the instructor frequently made sarcastic or snide remarks that added stress rather than helping me improve as a driver. Constructive criticism is expected during driving lessons, but there's a clear difference between professional instruction and dismissive commentary. Lateness was another constant issue. In almost every lesson, I had to wait for the instructor to arrive. Most delays were around five to ten minutes, but one incident was especially ridiculous. I waited approximately 30 minutes before being told by the office that the instructor was downtown and would not return for another two hours. I was advised to go home and wait for a phone call. Instead, I returned to the office myself later and found the instructor already there. Had I not taken the initiative, I strongly suspect my lesson simply would not have happened that day. Rather than apologizing for the inconvenience, the office blamed a surprise city inspection and dismissed the issue entirely. This pattern of avoiding accountability continued throughout my experience. After finally completing the ten lessons, it was time for my road test. My appointment was scheduled for 8:45 AM, and I was instructed to arrive at the school at 8:30 AM. That already seemed cutting it close, but I trusted the school's judgment. Instead, I spent around 40 minutes sitting in a car with other students before we were rushed to the testing site late. Because the vehicle was not present before 9:00 AM, the examiners refused to let me and another student take our tests. Again, instead of apologizing, the school blamed the DMV staff and claimed the examiners were under inspection by supervisors. Whether or not that was true is irrelevant -- it was the school's responsibility to get students to the test site on time. When we returned to the office, there was still no accountability. The office staff insisted "it wasn't our fault they had an inspection." The instructor himself gave me a half-hearted wave and walked out without even acknowledging the situation professionally. To their credit, they scheduled another road test for the following week and told me to arrive at 8:00 AM for a 9:00 AM appointment. I arrived early and waited until after 8:10 AM before leaving because no escort had shown up. At that point, I decided I was done dealing with this school entirely. The level of disorganization and lack of professionalism here is honestly shocking. Before spending money with this business, I strongly recommend looking into their history and reading other reviews carefully.

Anyway, since moving in this neighborhood i always came to this business to pick up my ups packages and always saw their driving course packages. I purchased the 10 course lesson package and it was the best investment because I passed my road test. Most of my lessons were with Irving Sr. & Irving Jr. Both are great instructors but if you want a more relaxed comfortable experience then I suggest Irving Jr. Best part of the package is that they drive you to the road test site and supply the car, my test was in Yonkers. Nonetheless they made the experience so easy and I learned so fast once I got out my comfort zone. 10 courses later and I'm finally on the road.
