Negligent doctor. My skin NOT bad enough for Accutane. I got a facial that led to a bad acne breakout. I had also just recently lost my mom at 21 years old. I had an unimaginable amount of stress that also caused me to loose 30 lbs in a month. I communicated all of this to Dr. Jacobson and she listened with open ears which I did appreciate. It made me feel like I could trust her. She ended up prescribing me Accutane when other pills and creams failed to work. I should have NEVER a been prescribed Accutane. Clearly my body was not healing because of the stress and trauma I was undergoing personally. The human body is complex and is all connected. Just because prescription drugs didn't work does not mean Accutane is the answer. There is a whole host of reasons why people experience acne and reasons why it wasn't healing. For example, allergies, stress, hormones, diet, vitamin deficiencies. Of course topicals won't work for more complexes cases and Accutane is a short cut to healing. If a doctor is going to prescribe a drug that is so serious they need to be 100% transparent about how the drug works. Had the doctor said "this is a chemotherapy drug that destroys your oil glands and may cause symptoms such as blindness, PERMANENT dry skin, stomach distorters, and the list goes on" I would have never taken this drug. That is NOT how she described it. she said not to research it because it would freak me out and the internet is never a good source of truth. She should have stressed that Accutane is a permanent decision and I should research as much as possible because of the danger of taking it. This is not something to sugar coat. Patients need to be told the truth bedside once you do this the damage is done. My acne was a result of stress + reaction to the facial. I didn't have money for fancy facials or naturopaths but I shouldn't need that to get good advice from a dermatologist. Dermatologist should be able to identify root causes of skin health too but most often they just throw pills at you that make things worse or don't work cause it's not tied to the root cause. Given the emotional turmoil I was facing I was of course willing to try anything but Dr. Jacobson should have been more responsible about prescribing this when I was in that low emotional state. I was not in a position to make a serious decision like that and Accutane is known to increase depression--which it did for me. Instead, she should have explained that skin is complicated and worked on a plan to rule out other causes before jumping to Accutane or as I previously mentioned been 100% transparent about how serious it is and how permanent it is. It's the responsibility of the doctor to tell the patient that Accutane is a last resort and fully communicate the risks in the most honest way because this is one of the most dangerous drugs on the market and it needs to be communicated that way. Had she been clear about the way this medication was works and allows you to have clear skin I would have at least understood what I was about to do to my body. Dr. Jacobson is completely incompetent. She has no idea how Accutane works or what to do now. I have been off the medicine since 2019 and every year I experience more symptoms. It has made me so incredibly depressed, caused me way more problems than it fixed, costed me thousands, and altered my body forever. If you're considering taking accutane ask yourself these questions: 1. Is my skin worth damaging my health? 2. Have I really tried everything and dedicated enough time to giving those things a chance? 3. Am I in the right mental place to make this decision right now? No doctor will care about you more than yourself and unfortunately I made the mistake of putting my health into someone's hands who did not effectively communicate the risks and who irresponsibly suggesting this drug to someone who was not a candidate for it. Dermatologist prescribe the same drugs whether it's retinol, antibiotics, or spironolactone and if those fail they jump to Accutane. It's extremely irresponsible and putting young people on this drug without full transparency is appalling. Putting people on this drug at all is appalling. Particularly those who haven't struggled with SEVERE and persistent acne. I was a poor college student who did not have the money to spend on fancy treatments and naturopaths but that shouldn't have meant my only option was Accutane. I regret ever stepping foot in this office and my life will be forever altered by taking the advice of Dr. Jacobson. While I appreciate her bedside manner and her listening to all the issues I was having-- it makes it even more upsetting that she contributed to adding another horrible event in my life. Had she never suggested this medicine or had she been more honest about the dangers I can confidently say I wouldn't have done this. They took over from our previous dermatologist after he retired. They saw my daughter and prescribed an acne cream that cost $300 per month and wasn't covered by insurance. Our other daughter had an existing prescription for an acne cream that was almost entirely covered by insurance but the prescription ran out and they wouldn't extend the prescription without another office visit. I asked if they could phone in one additional month to hold us over until the new appointment and they said they could but then they didn't. When I called back to find out why we didn't have an additional tube of the cream phoned in to the pharmacy, they said they had no record of the new appointment we'd scheduled because it had been canceled. But I didn't cancel it and there's no reason why I would have because they were holding the prescription hostage until we made that appointment. Seriously! Nobody canceled that appointment and we got no phone call regarding any of it. So we rescheduled for the next available appointment which was more than six weeks out. Again, I asked if they could just please give her one month of her acne cream. I mean, it's not like it's a barbiturate. It's an acne cream! And she needs to use it continuously to remain acne free. But, nope! They still wouldn't do it and we needed to wait approximately six weeks until the next available appointment . Well, I found another dermatologist 10 minutes away who would see her and prescribe the cream so problem solved! Very happy to have a new dermatologist and not have to deal with this ridiculous one anymore. Hallelujah! read more

This clinic is terrible. They try to sell you sunscreen and other stuff while you wait and it takes forever for your turn, even though they are appointments. She spends maybe 5 minutes with you after you wait for 30+ for your appointment. She didn't even remember what my skin looked like or bothered to take photos to check progress. For acne she gave me some creams to start which didn't work and put me on many antibiotics which also didn't work. She didn't even remember what medicine she prescribed me and the dose. One time she prescribed me the wrong medicine entirely. Finally I recommended acutane and I ended up going to a actual real dermatologist with a degree that spent time discussing potential side effects and making sure I was ok. Don't come here. read more

This review is for Dr. Gould who I met with last fall regarding AGA female hair loss. I had been struggling for 4 years with a receding hairline and I finally came to know it was AGA. I was hoping for some caring advice and medication to treat my issue. However what I was met with was the opposite. Dr. Gould was very rude to me about my hair loss. Since it wasn't serious like skin cancer she basically dismissed me. She actually asked me if I had sought mental help! I mean, I have never had a doctor be so unprofessional and discourteous ever. She was willing to look into giving me Spironolactone but then told me it may not work. It was on she did not care at all about my hair loss. I would have thought that a female doctor could at best empathize but not only did she not, she put right insulted me. Unless you have skin cancer or want to be ridiculed and taken for a joke do not even consider wasting your time and money on her. read more

Dr. Elizabeth Gould is one of the nicest, and kindest dermatologist that I have ever met. One of my friends had no insurance, and no job, and she was able to work something out for him for the consultation so that it was affordable. Two of the other places I called said, "I'm sorry that is not our problem, and if you don't have insurance we can't see you unless you are paying in cash or credit card." I feel like when you are in the industry to help people, you should have at least have half a heart, or at least a small piece of it for people that are less fortunate. During that the last visit that I saw her she also removed some "troubling moles" for me. Please go see her if you notice 1) Asymmetric Mole 2) Funky borders on the mole 3) Different colors on the mole (ex: multi-colors) 4) Moles that are bigger than a eraser on a pencil tip 5) And if you notice it getting bigger, changing in color etc She removed my moles and stitched me up and it was a very painless procedure. She numbs you really well so that you don't feel anything. I really like Dr. Elizabeth Gould, because she is good at what she does and has a big heart. That was very kind of her and I will always remember that she helped my friend in more ways that she can imagine. Thank you Dr. Gould for just being a good dermatologist and a good person! read more

I'm in my mid-twenties and have struggled with varying degrees of facial acne since my teens. A particularly severe case of jaw-line acne brought me into Dr. Elizabeth's office. I have had poor experiences with dermatologist in the past. Most of them quick to write a prescription and send me on my way. I have to be honest, I half expected the same treatment, but I was to a point of desperation. I had to try one. last. time. I'm certainly glad I did! So far, I have been seeing Dr. Elizabeth for the past four months. My experience has been wonderful. My skin has cleared up to the point that I feel that I can move onto IPL to help with texture/acne scars (this was the least of my problems a few months ago!). My skin feels nice to touch and I don't have a "good side" in photos any more. I am happy and confident again! I highly recommend Dr. Gould and her staff, they are all fantastic! read more

Dr. William Gould is a great dermatologist. (and, I suspect the whole practice is excellent as well). After having rosacea and some acne since I was 12, I finally decided to try Accutane, the high-side-effect, highly-effective medication. After reading all of the horror stories about side effects, I figured it was worth going with the best doctor possible to manage the process. Dr. Gould saw me for an initial appointment a few days after I called, and was honest and straightforward about the potential benefits and risks of the medication. We decided it was worthwhile, but he's been extremely conservative -- with extra blood tests and a slow ramp up to minimize side effects. He was able to give me obviously very well informed (through research and experience with patients) answers to any questions about the medication, treatment plan, etc., which makes the whole thing less stressful. Either way, I'd be happy with the care I've received, but the medication has been extremely effective and with limited side effects, which probably has something to do with Dr. Gould's caution and conservatism. As well, the office is extremely well run and efficient, and all of the staff are very friendly. I would not hesitate to recommend Gould-Jacobson dermatology to anyone, but I would especially recommend Dr. William Gould within the practice. read more

Dr Beth Gould is a great doctor. I have seen Dr Jacobson before for my rosacea a few years back, but last month, I finally met Dr. Gould. I had an emergency with severe hives (while 7 months pregnant) that my OB had to send me to a dermatologist the same day. Worried that it could be PPUS, which is pregnancy related.. but turns out that it was seafood allergies. Nonetheless, it was severe and mostly troubled me at night, when it spread throughout the body, red and swollen. Antihistamine helped, but I was careful not to overdose on it. It got quite bad, even had a night that I suffered breathing difficulties. Steroids took a while to kick in, but once it was working, I started feeling fine in a few days. Being pregnant means you have to be careful with medications, and Dr Gould took so much care in examining me, talking with my OB to work out a good dosage. She even volunteered to take care of me after hours if there is a need. In the end, I had to speak with her on two occasions, and both times (7pm and 9pm), she picked up the phone immediately. It was such a relief to be able to have the help when you needed it the most. Dr Gould is unbelieveable. I can't remember a doctor that is so caring and genuine for a long time. (by the way, It was the first time I met her, not that I am a long time patient that gets special privileges). Feels like she is someone that went into medicine, who genuinely wants to treat patients and do the world good! I cannot believe how humble she is. Her diagnosis and instructions were clear, and she was firm in telling me not to speculate anything and deal with one set of scenarios at a time. Hearing it from the doctor definitely made me feel reassured. Their office called me every couple of days to follow up. And today, I spoke to Dr Gould directly who wants to hear how I am doing (now that I am done with the full course of steroids). It totally feels like she is part of my health care team, and she is there when I needed her the most. I can't thank her enough. read more

I went to see Dr. Elizabeth Gould as a first time patient. The place was not hard to find and there was street parking available. Once in the office, the wait was not long, you just fill out a short questionnaire. Dr. Gould took a look at my skin and addressed all my concerns and questions. She let me know of options going forward and she explained why certain options were not necessary. She also explained how I can take care of my skin going forward. Although not particularly warm or friendly, she was professional overall and helped me calm my fears. She was gentle as well. I had a pleasant, short, and efficient experience over all. My only complaint is that she forgot to call my prescription into the pharmacy so I had to call the office the next business day to make sure I got my prescription. read more

I came in for rosacea. Dr. Jacobson recommended 3 IPL treatments. After the first 2, I noticed 0 improvement, so I canceled the 3rd, thinking that there was no way having one more treatment by her could suddenly give me significant results. But more importantly I was worried since the first 2 treatments gave me 2 patches on my cheeks that are now permanently white. I had no idea that was a potential complication of the IPL! read more

Love going in for my yearly checks. She's the best. Very professional. All the stuff she takes off me doesn't hurt. I can't even find some of the scars from all the years of having things taken off. And she probably saved my life by finding the cancer on the bottom of my foot. She sent me to a great surgeon and I've been cancer free since. I can't say enough about the practice. Have been to this practice a few times over the years, with lukewarm results. I personally didn't find that Dr. Gould spent the time or took my concerns seriously (more of an 'eh, it's not that bad'). That alone wasn't enough for a bad review though - I was always happy enough. However, I went in a while ago for a simple mole check which only took maybe 10-15 minutes, and she suggested I take a couple off while also reassuring me that they weren't anything (if they're not of concern, why go through the pain and expense to remove? but that's besides the point). I got a very hefty bill (which I am newly more aware of since I pay out of pocket) and asked a family friend to comment on the CPT code that they used to categorize the visit - a 99215 if you care to look it up. She said that the code is almost never used (also found that when searching online), and there was nothing nearly comprehensive enough to justify that code for the visit I described. At best, this office is taking liberties with their codes to inflate the prices for visits (assuming that the insurance company won't care) - at worst, they are employing fraudulent billing practices. I will be filing a claim with my insurance. Update per Dr. Gould's reply: I did contact the office multiple times with my concern. The first time, the billing specialist did ask the doctor and the only response I got was "that's how we bill that procedure." My latest call I was told there was no note of my previous call (new person), and that if I didn't pay the remainder of my bill I would be sent to collection...so I've now paid my bill (I had $40 left btw, having paid the price for a lower level appt) but felt compelled to share my experience. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Elizabeth Gould for at least 10 years, and I think she is a terrific dermatologist. I see her at least twice a year because I have very fair skin. She is very pleasant, but most importantly she is thorough. At my last visit, she questioned a dark mole on my shin which looked perfectly normal to me. She had it biopsied, and it turned out to be a first stage melanoma which was easily removed before it became serious. The level of care she gives is why I continue to be her patient. read more

I have mixed feelings about Dr. Elizabeth Gould and her practice, some really great things and some not so great things. The good... -Getting an appointment is relatively easy, front office is extremely nice. -She is a preferred provider with many insurance plans. -She took care of my problem after a couple of visits. The not so good... -The office is very small and I notice that they don't have a lot of room and they have stuff everywhere. -Dr. Gould always has one of her young assistants in the examining room setting for procedures, which is fine, but what seems weird to me is that the same girl that checks me in, is also the one that sets up procedures for the doctor in their regular clothes and makes me feel like they haven't been trained and that they are not a professional doctors office. This is creepy to me and makes me uncomfortable. -She's often running late. I waited about an hour to be seen and she had other patients waiting before me. Makes me wonder if they over book appointments. -She's also extremely rude to her staff. -Parking can be very difficult. Overall she's a great doctor with a weird personality. read more

Dr Sarah Jacobson is a great dermatologist. She has seen me, my son and my husband. She's thorough, gentle and knows dermatology. Believe it or not she was the 3rd doctor we went to for my son's wart on his knee. No matter what this same wart kept coming back. So much so my son named it Steve! After seeing Dr Jacobson, Steve has yet to return! She was a great help with a growth ( got rid of it!) on my husband's foot and also with a reoccurring dermatitis I have for about 20 years. We are very happy with Dr Jacobson and will continue to see her when we need to. read more

I would highly recommend to stay away from this practice. The receptionists are rude, one of them who I spoke with just now simply hung up on me. When I initially made the appointment they looked me up took my insurance and said I was covered. After I already saw Dr Jacobson I received a bill for over $150 for a simple 15 min(at most) visit. Had I known this before, I would make sure to go to a practice that does take my insurance. How this was handled, receptionist giving me false information before appointment and hanging up on a customer is just unacceptable! I should've known better because I was able to get an appointment the next day when I called (never a good sign). read more

And then was told I could come back the next day but they couldn't give me a real appointment time with a guarantee of not waiting another 20 minutes. I was very happy with my experience at Gould -Jacobson dermatology. I went in for IPL therapy for my face and chest. I went in for three treatments as explained in the consultation. I had very good results and am happy. Dr. Gould compared past pictures and my skins response to the prior treatment to optimize the laser for the best results and i saw a significant difference each time. She had a great bedside manner and explained everything thoroughly so I knew exactly what was happening through the visits. They Always gave me a cooling pad during and afterwards to make sure I was comfortable and double checked throughout the process to make sure I was comfortable. It was very reassuring. Front staff was helpful and nice and overall a great experience for cosmetic dermatology in a doctors office. read more
