This theater used to be such a great alternative to the more mainstream vibe of the Annapolis Mall, but over the last year, it's just become kind of a disappointment. It's bad enough that it's expensive to see a film here, but they don't really show a lot of the indie films anymore which used to be their big selling point. Today I lucked out and got to see The Brutalist, but normally this theater shows essentially the same films they show at the mall around the corner. Not only that, but during my movie, the walls were so thin that I could hear the movie in the neighboring theater. And considering that the auditoriums are also in a various state of disrepair, why would I spend more money to see the same movie in a not as nice theater....? This theater is sadly in dire need of a facelift if they want to compete with other theaters nearby in my opinion.

I ended up chatting with them for a while before I left. This is a fairly new museum, so I don't know why Yelp has it attached to some reviews from 2018 that must reference a different museum. The visit starts off with an introductory video. From there you can head up the stairs to see 2 more floors of exhibits. It's a small building so it's not a lot of space. But the space is filled with lots of cool artifacts and information chronicling the history of Annapolis. I didn't even know it was once the capital of the country. I like that the museum doesn't gloss over the part slavery played in Maryland history. Definitely worth a visit if you are in Annapolis.

John Paul Jones is credited with being the "Father of the United States Navy" in 1775. His crypt…read morelies on the grounds of the Annapolis Naval Academy. You can enter the grounds free of charge after clearing a security check-point. He is credited with with having uttered the phrase "I have not yet begun to fight" in response to a quest for his surrender at the Battle of Flamborough Head during the Revolutionary War. His burial on the grounds of the U.S. Navel Academy is a complicated matter. Upon his death in 1792 he was interred in the French royal family private cemetery having gained the respect of the family while residing in France at the time. Only two years later in 1796 France's Revolutionary government sold the property and his burial on that land was forgotten. It was not until 1906 that his body was brought back to the United States and the U.S. Navel Academy under the direction of Theodore Roosevelt. The crypt has a separate entrance below the chapel of the United States Navel Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. The ornate sarcophagus is covered in sculpted barnacles and is supported by legs in the shape of stylized dolphins. The sarcophagus is made of black and white marble. There is a bust of John Paul Jones and various other artifacts in this subterranean rotunda. The crypt is well done and worth seeing.

It easy and free to tour almost any day and it is nice to see all the history here. They have the more modern (but still historic) current chambers as well as the original historic ones open to tour. There are numerous rooms to check out, some even have interactive touch screen features, that was kind of neat to see what it was like hundreds of years ago. The architecture is neat. The staircase is long but manageable, but there is a tiny elevator that you can take as well. The grounds outside are nicely manicured and there are some things to see as well including cannons and a little building that is quite old but packed with history. Annapolis was a fun place to visit and if you do, check out the state house.

Annapolis, MD - we toured the Navy Academy as a side trip to DC, as I knew it was an activity that…read morewould interest my dad. You can either check out the visitor center and free museum (a few blocks away) and walk around on your own (after going through security - this is an active naval base so ID is required to enter), or opt for a public guided tour, if you wish learn more about the history, traditions, and campus life of this institution. The 90-minute historical walking tour is the most popular, but I booked a GEM riding tour for my family (in a 5-passenger electric vehicle), since we were traveling with elders and a young child, so wouldn't be able to cover much ground across the sprawling Yard otherwise. The 75-minute tour takes you all around the Yard in comfort and highlights the "gems" of the naval academy. The campus is beautiful and pristinely maintained, and we were expertly entertained and informed by our wonderful tour guide Anne, whose whole family is Navy, and shared additional insights into the life of a midshipman and beyond. Parking: the limited parking near the visitors center is only available to those who hold a military ID. Otherwise you can either park at a garage or try metered street parking which is limited to 2 hours.

I wish we'd had time for a guided tour (the other reviewers have really sold me on that experience, and I look forward to doing it in the future), but we had a great time exploring on our own. We arrived in the late afternoon. When you arrive, you need to enter through the Armel-Leftwich Visitor Center (even if you're going to the chapel or the museum, navigate your walking directions here to avoid wasting time - Google Maps doesn't know you need to enter at this particular gate), where you'll show ID and put your things through a metal detector, but that was very quick. The highlights of our walk around campus included the walk down Porter Road (the houses on this street looked like I was on the set of Top Gun), the U.S. Naval Academy Museum, and the Naval Academy Chapel. Both the museum and the chapel were easy to find, because the campus has very good signage. The museum is located in Preble Hall and is two floors of naval and U.S. Navy history and a collection of model warships. It's definitely worth a visit (it has its own Yelp page, so you can read reviews specific to the museum there). The chapel really blew me away. It was built in 1904-1908 but underwent extension remodeling in 1940. It's large (it seats 2,500), with a copper dome (the cupola is 193 feet above the main altar area). It's very beautiful, and you should definitely stop in for a look if you're exploring campus. The campus is beautiful and a unique space in Annapolis. I'd been to Annapolis dozens of times (mostly for work before) visiting the Naval Academy! I wish I'd explored it sooner.
