what a regular plate of food looks like
    Cinthia K.

This place is flipping amazing! Like others had mentioned in their reviews, this place is a vegetarian Indian restaurant where, for just a few Euros, you'll leave feeling absolutely full. I opted for the regular plate, but there are also small and large plates. Only get the large plate if you happen to be sharing with somebody else as the regular plate was still quite quite large. I believe that the offerings change daily, so what I had (which included a paneer dish and moussaka) won't necessarily be offered on the day that you go. The food itself was pretty good and I was amazed at myself for polishing off my plate. Definitely stop by if you happen to be starving and want to have some amazing food!

Our first dinner in Dublin, made wonderful by the huge portions and cheap price. From what I could tell there are a few options in plate size: large (which is a gigantic plate seriously), regular, and small. We were starving so opted for the large plate which was about €15 but totally worth it. They pile the plate high with a bit of all the dishes offered. We ended up with basically a mountain of food! Everything was really delicious. The pasta dish that night was a bit crunchy in spots but I will attribute that to coming here an hour before closing. I really loved the squash and potatoes with the tofu in tomato sauce. Completely vegetarian yet very filling. We were barely able to finish the large plate despite being so hungry. Next time I would definitely get the regular size.

V tasty veggie food. Get a small, medium or large plate. Today I wasn't so hungry so I got a small plate and boy do they stack it up so high they have to put another plate underneath. I love that attitude. Haven't tried their deserts but they look great.

I zombied my way into Govindas after a very zen meditation experience in the studios above the restaurant. You can always count on Govindas worldwide for cheap, healthy vegetarian options offered in feast-like quantities. Unfortunately my most recent experience was a little below expectations... I ordered samosas. They didn't have any. What?? So instead I opted for a grilled cheese and fried potato dish (tasted good so no drama about the lack of samosas). Then I ordered a homemade lemonade.. they didn't have any. Instead I was offered a very interesting concoction called 'Kombucha'. This is a must try. It's a carbonated herbal tea drink which contains fermented Kombucha cultures, which apparently have a harmonising effect on the body and soul. The label on the drink boasts that Kombucha was discovered during the Qin dynasty (221BC) and has been a part of the Asian Zen philosophy of life ever since. Good thing I tried it. The rest of my Govindas experience floated by in a trance-like state, but I'm not sure whether that can be attributed to the Kombucha potion or the meditation experience. Through my semi-conscious haze I happened to observe an annoying number of fruit flies buzzing around the room (but I think that's more to do with the weather than Govindas' cleanliness standards) and also that a disproportionately large section of the restaurant's clientele was comprised of good-looking males. Ooh! So I guess my Govindas experience could be considered a lesson in Hare Krishna philosophy - go with the flow, accept what comes your way and embrace it wholeheartedly... pity none of those good-looking men came my way ;-)

One of the cheapest restaurants in Dublin city centre. Go for the "small plate" and try a little bit of everything. Most of the food is quite good and tasty (is nothing to get crazy about but vegetarian food can be a little boring) and the value for your money is amazing. Very much recommended if you feel very hungry and want to go for something healthier than average.

Fortunately, it turned out there was ample to choose from, including Sova Vegan Butcher (a quick walk from our hotel, near the Iveagh Gardens). Sova Vegan Butcher is a slightly higher dining experience than most of what you'll find in Dublin. This doesn't mean that you need to get too dressy, but rather that the presentation is a higher game (and dishes are a little higher in cost). We made reservations when we first arrived on recommendation from a couple sources we looked into. Our last day in Dublin, we headed to the restaurant and were seated on the second floor. Their space is about average size for Dublin, and they were busy but with pretty regular turn over in tables. Seeing a caesar salad was available, I of course had to try that as one of our shared dishes. We also got the soya schnitzels, and the split pea soup for a starter. The soup was good, but about your standard flavor profile. However, the caesar salad was excellent. It had a really large portion of avocado, tempeh rounds, and a good rendition on the dressing. The soya schnitzels were quite good as well. They were served with a duchess potato and delicious tartare sauce. While we were quite full from all of this, we decided to treat ourselves to dessert (it being our last night out in Dublin). That night, the dessert was a cheesecake with strawberries and blueberries, served in a cute mason jar. It wasn't the best cheesecake I've had, but I appreciated the presentation that went into it. Would definitely recommend Sova for someone traveling through Dublin, especially if you're getting tired of some of the standard (burger-type) vegan fare you'll often find elsewhere.

Since I don't eat red meat, I was very excited to see a vegetarian Irish breakfast option. I ordered this as well as a mocha latte. Despite the rain, my friend and I sat outside since all of the indoor seating was occupied. Thankfully some heaters provided warmth for what could've been a chilly breakfast. Very quickly the lattes came out which my friend and I sipped on. They were soooo cute, mine had the design of a little bear on top! The latte itself was hot and not too sweet, the perfect start to the experience. After a few short minutes, the food came out! Immediately, my friend and I dug in. It was honestly everything I expected and even more! There were no weak links on the plate and there were generous portions as well. I sat there for a while working my way through my delicious plate!! Overall, I was very happy with my experience at Beanhive. It was an aesthetic cafe that also provided a hearty breakfast. I would definitely recommend.

Our first meal in Dublin was at The Old Mill Restaurant, right in the heart of Temple Bar. It's been serving traditional Irish fare since the 1980s and has become a favorite stop for both locals and visitors looking for classic comfort food. After about a 20-minute wait, we were seated in the warm, inviting dining room. Susan ordered the mussels, one of her favorites, while I went with the Traditional Irish Stew and my daughter chose the Braised Beef & Guinness Stew. Both were exactly what we hoped for: hearty, flavorful, and perfect after a day of sightseeing. I finally understood why the Guinness stew had such a rich, dark color, and I have to admit, I came home a big fan of Irish stew. We finished with the Homemade Bread & Butter Pudding topped with fresh cream and custard, a comforting dessert that was the perfect ending to the meal. Service, atmosphere, value, and food were all five out of five. We also enjoyed chatting with the floor manager, whose pride in the restaurant and his team was obvious. That kind of hospitality made a great meal even more memorable.

We made a reservation, but was asked to wait while they cleaned up the table. Unfortunately, the table they wanted to seat us, the folks decided to have a long after dinner conversation, thus we ended up waiting longer than expected. Then they seated us at a larger table after waiting 15 minutes or so. The service was decent... wasn't fan of tipping request, EU needs to stop adopting USA's stupid system :)
