My partner and I were recently in Dublin, and when we were planning ahead of time, I wasn't sure how many vegan options would be available. Fortunately, it turned out there was ample to choose from, including Sova Vegan Butcher (a quick walk from our hotel, near the Iveagh Gardens). Sova Vegan Butcher is a slightly higher dining experience than most of what you'll find in Dublin. This doesn't mean that you need to get too dressy, but rather that the presentation is a higher game (and dishes are a little higher in cost). We made reservations when we first arrived on recommendation from a couple sources we looked into. Our last day in Dublin, we headed to the restaurant and were seated on the second floor. Their space is about average size for Dublin, and they were busy but with pretty regular turn over in tables. Seeing a caesar salad was available, I of course had to try that as one of our shared dishes. We also got the soya schnitzels, and the split pea soup for a starter. The soup was good, but about your standard flavor profile. However, the caesar salad was excellent. It had a really large portion of avocado, tempeh rounds, and a good rendition on the dressing. The soya schnitzels were quite good as well. They were served with a duchess potato and delicious tartare sauce. While we were quite full from all of this, we decided to treat ourselves to dessert (it being our last night out in Dublin). That night, the dessert was a cheesecake with strawberries and blueberries, served in a cute mason jar. It wasn't the best cheesecake I've had, but I appreciated the presentation that went into it. Would definitely recommend Sova for someone traveling through Dublin, especially if you're getting tired of some of the standard (burger-type) vegan fare you'll often find elsewhere. read more

Luscious food and generous portions - the brunch menu is a list of veganised comfort classics such as big cooked breakfasts, kebabs, soups, pastas and burgers. I had a Seitan Doner Kebab served with guacamole, red cabbage, garlic mayo, sriracha and salad. Couldn't resist ordering a side of potato chips which were delicious. Staff are lovely and Sova is licensed so it's possible to have a glass of wine with your meal (as we did) or BYOB. Anticipating a few return visits soon to try the Irish Breakfast which one of my dining companions ordered (looked fantastic and he said it was amazing) and the evening menu which is more of a fine dining affair. This place is officially my new favourite restaurant. To start I had the king scallops with dill potato cakes, black pudding crisps and kelp caviar (the scallops are made from mushroom stalks)! This was probably my favourite meal. It was so flavourful and presented beautifully. For mains I had the seitan steak with pepper sauce, potato gratin and watercress salad and cherry tomatoes on the vine. The portions were huge and I was absolutely stuffed after this, but of course had to try the cheesecake for dessert. The cheesecake was blackberry and blueberry, I'm pretty sure the base was ground walnuts. It was absolutely gorgeous with an overall nutty, creamy taste. I really hope this place sticks around, it's so nice going out to eat and not having to inform your server of dietary needs. 3 courses for €21.90, you really can't go wrong. Really enjoyed this place when I visited this evening. My better half is vegan so it's always so great for us to find new places to eat out. We got the 3 course menu for €21.95 and BYOB. The service was very slow to start but I will attribute that to teething problems and I am sure once they are confident they will find their stride. A long wait to order and no cutlery brought with mains but very friendly and more than made up for it. I got the zucchini & watermelon tartare to start which looked stunning and was tasty but I was far more jealous of the dill potato cake starter. For my main I got the potato pancakes which were unbelievable (and brought this review from 3* to 4* for being so good). The chia burger main was unfortunately a little lacking in flavour and sort of fell apart but still ok. Dessert unfortunately let it down. We got a cheesecake and panna cotta and I didn't like either unfortunately. Texture wise I just couldn't adjust to it. The place is cool and decor has "unfinished" kind of vibes. I have been waiting to get to Sova for about a year now. As an irish vegan living in NY, every time I come home it's been top of my list, but I didn't get to make it a reality until now. I am spoilt for choice with high end vegan dining in NY, so my bar is very high. Sova was absolutely wonderful and did not disappoint in any way. My family and I enjoyed every dish we ordered: scallops and the chickpea meat balls (sauce included in this dish is divine) for starters; the herbed chiken (highly recommend), the seitan steak and the gnocchi for mains; and the cheesecake and coconut for dessert. Wine selection was very nice as well. The service was attentive and friendly and the space is clean and cute. I was delighted to see the restaurant was fully booked and that people were still arriving attempting to get a table throughout the evening. Makes me happy to see so many people in Dublin wanting a vegan meal, and that there is such a fantastic establishment like Sova to offer quality fare. Was looking forward to this place but unfortunately didn't live up to expectations. Guys are only getting on their feet so I'll cut them some slack and return in future. Arrived for a late Sunday lunch, no booking required. Service wasn't the best I've had, having to request if our order could be taken and cutlery for when it did arrive. Teething problems perhaps. Having seen a recent review in LovinDublin, I ordered the gluten free chia burger which I was hoping came with some portobello mushrooms in place of the buns. Instead I got just the burger sans the bread. It was grand. I'd tried the vegan chia burger from a certain famous Bray Duo a few weeks back and adored it, despite my meat loving tendencies. Sova is a vegan pop up restaurant just off Camden St. Usually vegan restaurants, the few that are out there, have a very casual atmosphere about them, sometimes they are even buffet-style. Sure, that has no influence on the quality of the food served but I imagine that Vegans do miss the nice setting of 'non-vegan' restaurants with friendly table service and a nice presentation of dishes. This is where Sova comes in. They do things differently here. In Sova the menu reads like a regular menu but all dishes are prepared with plant-based only ingredients. So for example my starter was 'king scallops; which came out beautifully presented looking like a portion of shellfish in a swanky seafood restaurant but in fact was Portobello mushroom stems on mashed potatoes. My main of 'dack' was made from seitan which I had to google as I hadn't heard of it before. We came here for a friends' birthday and I can nothing but highly recommend it for groups and celebrations. They serve organic Prosecco, have a BYOB policy without corkage fee and although there were 10 of us and we all had different dishes, everything came out pretty much altogether which was astonishing as this place was buzzing with people that night. So the service was great, the food was really great although one of the guys was still hungry after his 3 courses. Maybe it was psychological though since there was no meat on his plate. Maybe I should mention that only the birthday girl is vegan and the rest us ... well ...all carnivores. Everyone was positively surprised and would without doubt dine here again. I've been following Sova around the city since it got its start in the Paris Wine Bar, and I'm delighted to say that this is the best incarnation of it yet. I've popped in for lunch at around 1:30PM and 2PM to find plenty of space and the Sunday brunch was quite busy so we were happy to have had a reservation Upon first arriving I was struck by the usual temporary paralysis of arriving in a vegan/vegetarian restaurant - I believe it's called "choice" by some people. I've had the "pulled porc" twice, which is delicious and quite a challenge to finish given the huge portion. The kebab is also delicious if you want a healthy take on a junk food classic. As ever, the burger is a messy, saucy treat. If I had to look for downsides I'd have to criticise the juices - €5 for an orange juice is more than a little unreasonable. But apart from that I can't really think of any reasons for this place to not jump into the running for best vegan place in Dublin. read more

This was hands down the most exciting part of our vegan food finds while in Dublin. When my hubs and I travel we pretty much center our trips around trying any and all the vegan food we can get our hands on and this place definitely did not disappoint. The restaurant felt very laid back, but the food was anything but that as it felt very upscale! I initially though it was a place where you could buy faux meats and vegan goods, but was pleasantly surprised to learn that it was a restaurant. I'm not vegan, but was invited by a friend who is to dine at Sova. The menu is a unique approach with a varied list of "mock" meat dishes. It includes listings like scallops, porc medallions, and steak. However, don't be fooled (or perhaps be fooled) there is no meat, but a vegan interpretation of these carnivorous favorites. I chose the gnocchi with cashew parmesan. It was quite good. The gnocci were light and fluffy, and the sauce was rhick and creamy. I enjoyed it, but wouldn't gonrunning back to have it again. My dining partner had the soup and " scallops" and enjoyed both, but didn't rave. Its a cozy spot that was fully booked on a Saturday night. The wait staff were friendly and helpful. I don't know how it compares to other vegan options in town, but I certainly found it to be pleasant and probably a more exciting and interesting option for vegetarians and vegans. read more

I'm not vegan or vegetarian, but I saw this place getting quite a lot of good reviews after it recently opened, so I came here for Sunday brunch. The cafe has a very casual vibe to it and quite dim inside. They have both seating upstairs and downstairs, so it was bigger than I thought. I ordered the Chia burger and unfortunately I thought it tasted really bad. I tried to stomach it as I paid for it, but it left a bad aftertaste in my mouth. The mushrooms that came with it had the same unpleasant taste to them, and although the food looked appetising, it did not taste good. The relish was far to sweet as well. The service was the only thing that I thought was good at least. Perhaps it was what I ordered, but due to the food I can only give it 2 stars as I expected Chia burgers to taste good. read more

This a review for lunch. The menu is very very small, only 5-6 choices for food. I had the polled porc sandwich -- huge portion, great flavor, little side salad of greens. They also had fresh ginger tea, which was perfect because it was freeeeeezing in there. The guy was very sweet and didn't charge me for the tea because it was so cold in the restaurant. I came in for lunch and chose the seitan kebab. Of course it's always great to eat somewhere that has more than one vegan option, never mind the whole menu! It came out really quickly and was huge. I felt bad leaving behind the salad but I couldn't eat it all. I also couldn't decide whether to attack the kebab with knife and fork or just to use my hands. In the end I did both. The seitan was really flavourful and came in nice big slices and wasn't chewy like it can sometimes get. The white sauce (tahini?) was really good. The food is so tasty, fantastic quality, great portion size and reasonably priced. There are 2 different menus (lunch and dinner), so I can only review lunch one but cannot wait to get back for dinner. We had 2 mains, 2 organic cab savs and 2 desserts for 45 quid. I have to start off by admitting that this is one of my favorite restaurants is Dublin. Having said that, and quite contradictory, I don't remember if the first time I came here was in 2015 or 2016-whenever it was, it was definitely love at first bite. My go to is the Caesar Salad. I went on opening night with a (carnivore) friend around tea-time. It was busy enough but not packed; the service was friendly and attentive, not fast-food speed but not overly slow either. Between us, we had the Seaweed chowder, King Scallops, Chia burger, Potato pancakes and Blueberry Pannacotta, all mouth-watering, and a snip at 20 euro each including a delicious cappuccino. First things first: the food was very good. I was surprised, that vegan food could be that delicious and tasty. But we were a big group and had a reservation upstairs. They told us right away, that we have to leave at 9pm. Most of us ordered a 3-course meal and it took forever to get our meals. The last of our group got their main dish after 8.30pm and we did not get any dessert until 9pm. So we had to hurry and then leave. The bill was just a total number, nothing was listed and we found later a mistake in the calculation. So it was not really a relaxing and fun evening and the staff was more rude then supportive.
