Before ever going to Joy Church I used to have a tag line on my email that read, "It's not about…read morereligion...it's about a relationship" and upon my first time at the church Pastor Jim stated "There's something about Joy Church I want you all to know. We aren't religious. We never have been and never will be. We are about having a relationship with our Lord and savior Jesus Christ." WOW! This guy must have been reading my email. But that was only the tip of the iceberg. I was actually ENJOYING the message he was delivering because he was funny BUT not just to be funny. He always followed it with a bible verse to back it up. Pastor Jim is a Cominister (part comedian and part minister) or he is a Ministedian (part minister and part comedian). I kept coming back. I was looking for the ego to eventually appear. I have been attending Joy for over six years now and I still haven't seen it. What I have seen are people that love you almost as much as your dog can. (They haven't started wiggling their behinds when I come in the door like my dog does, but their love, caring and hugs are a close second). So, if you want to hear the word, COME TO JOY CHURCH. When volunteering at "The Big Table" I overheard a couple on leadership say, "who is that" instead of introducing themselves and welcoming me. They help homeless people on a weekly basis but not someone who has been attending for months. Christ Jesus and the Scripture I read would not reject, betray, judge nor view disabled seniors as outcasts. Distant friends from another state are completely flabbergasted at the lack of assistance and acceptance Journey has provided to a child of God.

But the vision of the church became incredibly social justice minded. Many believe this is important in the role of the church. While I agree with this, I didn't feel the direction this church took was where I was meant to stay. Shortly thereafter we were called to move to a different state. Many people still there are my lifelong friends. You may find this place your home. But it's not the same place from the first review. Also: they own a building in Brentwood so now it's just Journey Church.
