The Doctor didn't seem to know too much about geckos and deferred the majority of the appointment to his tech. The tech held her completely wrong. The gecko was actively trying to bite her because she was experiencing discomfort. They declared that she was perfectly fine and to "keep doing what we're doing." Unfortunately, the gecko began to get very lethargic, to which we were told that she was going into "hibernating mode." A couple of days ago, she started having seizures and we scheduled her an urgent appointment at a legitimate exotic animal vet. My daughter's sweet little gecko didn't make it to her appointment for tomorrow. She died today. I'm appalled that Stephens City Animal Hospital advertises itself as a provider of exotic animal services.

I started taking my dog there in September of 2025. She needed a toe amputated because of a mast…read morecell tumor that was growing on it. One of the doctors removed it and then told me she was good and the cancer hadn't spread to the foot (no follow up for checking on that either). Months later in early 2026, I noticed her back leg (same one she had the toe amputated) was swelling. Took her in and Dr. Lo looked at it (no ultrasound was mentioned) and said it was from an old knee injury and gave her an anti-inflammatory. She never had a knee injury but I trusted him. Swelling went down but was coming back off and on. My husband took her for her routine exam in May 2026 and saw Dr. Vandrey. He felt a lump on her abdomen that we thought was a fatty tissue lump. He looked at her notes from her last visit with Dr. Lo and nothing was mentioned. Vandrey said he asked Dr. Lo about it and he said he didn't notice it. Well in May it was the size of a cantaloupe. Dr. Vandrey did xrays/ultrasounds and come to find out my poor Lucy had cancer all over: lungs, near her bladder, back leg (where the tumor started) and spleen where the huge mass was attached. My sweet dog went downhill fast and we had to put her to sleep on June 6, 2026 at a friend's vet practice near us (Warren Cty Vet is an hour away for us). I called Warren County Vet Clinic and told them what happened and to let Dr. Vandrey know. If they did, he didn't call or email to check in or offer any condolences. I want to know why the first vet that removed her mass didn't do an ultra sound to look for any spreading. I want to know why Dr. Lo was so casual about her swollen back leg and didn't offer to do an ultra sound. I want to know why Dr. Lo didn't notice her abdomen mass during his very brief exam and gave me a made up story that the swelling on her leg was an old knee injury that never existed. I truly believe my Lucy would still be here with us if these vets had done what they should have in the very beginning, she was only 10. Do not recommend and will never go back once we get another dog.

They did so much to inform me of everything i needed to know and to expect. GREAT Staff to deal with very friendly... Very clean and nice waiting room. They also gave my puppy a chew bone to chew on while he waited. And they give treats while they examine him which helped out a lot... They know what they are doing there and I would recommend this place to anyone with a loving pet. Personally I am extremely picky when it comes to taking my animals anywhere. We were referred to Newtown when my shih tzu was having gastrointestinal issues. After driving to Fairfax many times and no remedy we gave Newtown a try. AMAZING! Our dog was given a thorough exam and some probiotics. Bam!! He no longer had issues with his stomach. We were hooked and could not be happier to call Newtown our vet clinic from then on. We now have another shih tzu and Dr. Erin continues to not only give top notch care, she gives options, and there is never any pressure to do something you may not agree with. The front staff and vet techs are helpful, ask all the right questions and listen to your concerns. Whether its a routine check up, vaccinations, or something more critical nobody will ever do a better job and be more kind then Newtown Vet. Side note; my daughter and son in law also take their border collie to Newtown. When he was a puppy he got extremely ill and Dr. Davis worked some kind of miracle.
