On her most recent visit for Spring vaccines, the clearest evidence yet of the impact of her kindness and patience came when the wariest of my little group actually greeted her arrival by coming to her and asking for affection. And then doing so again after she'd finished giving him his shots. She approaches my horses with a similar generosity of spirit and is warm, supportive and clear when answering questions. At that point we opted to stop all pharmaceuticals (Apoquel, ProHeart 12) especially after learning they can cause seizures. Going forward we will get titers testing done before doing any further vaccinations. We looked around Boise for a holistic vet practiced in Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM) so we could holistically heal Hanno and thought we'd found one. The results were less than impressive and we are still waiting to hear back from them a week later! I remembered that Rebecca L G Verna is a Holistic Vet and I contacted her. This morning, she spent an hour and fifteen minutes on the facetime call with my wife and me. She asked a TON of questions and even looked at Hanno over the video. Her knowledge is impressive and I felt like she was really invested in his well-being. She gave Hanno more attention on the facetime call than the local "TCVM" vet did in person. Not an exaggeration at all. Going forward, our go to vet is Dr. Becky Verna at Paws for Holistic Pet Care and we will use the local vet to run the labs and do the 'hands on' things we cannot do over the phone. Pet Owners Beware: Multiple Misdiagnoses from Dr. Kat Gray…read more I'm writing this review as a serious warning to fellow pet owners: over the years, I've personally witnessed three separate misdiagnoses from Dr. Kat Gray at Agape Animal Hospital, one of which led directly to the death of a beloved dog. The most recent case involved my dear friend's dog, who suddenly began acting strangely. Despite my warnings, she went to Agape. Dr. Gray diagnosed a tick-borne illness, ran some blood work, gave fluids and a pain shot, and sent them home. She attributed the behavior to eating grass and being "stressed" from seeing luggage. The dog briefly improved, but then declined. On the second visit, they received another pain shot and an inconclusive ultrasound. At one point, Dr. Gray actually suggested the dog might have eaten mushrooms and was "having a bad trip." Finally, my friend went to another vet who correctly diagnosed intervertebral disc disease. The dog needed surgery. A correct diagnosis earlier would've spared her a great deal of pain. Sadly, this was not a one-off. Years earlier, my own hound was lethargic and off. Dr. Gray again blamed a tick-borne illness. Something didn't sit right with me, so we went for a second opinion. That vet discovered a grapefruit-sized tumor on his spleen that needed immediate surgery. We were told if we'd waited even another day, it could have ruptured and killed him. And tragically, a friend of mine lost her dog after being told, by Dr. Gray, that the dog was just overweight. I voiced my concern that the dog's abdomen looked swollen, not fat. Not long after, the dog passed away. It was a tumor. It had ruptured. It was preventable. I understand that no vet is perfect, and diagnoses can be complex. But three separate major misdiagnoses, two of them potentially fatal, one resulting in death is not something I can overlook. If you love your pet, please think twice before trusting Dr. Kat Gray with their care.

He's a five-pound chihuahua who shakes when someone new walks in the room and basically lived on my lap or behind my knees. I'd worried a trainer would either give up on him or scare him worse, but from the very first day Gina put so much thought into making him feel safe. She texted that afternoon to say he'd already jumped into her daughter's arms. When he barely ate the first couple days and I got worried, she talked me through it and told me he'd come around, which he did. She took him on long walks around the park and the neighborhood to burn off his nerves before she ever asked anything of him. His crate became his safe spot at her house, a familiar place that was all his in the middle of a busy home with other dogs and parrots and training going on. And she started him on tiny, predictable rules, sitting before a door, coming when called, so he always had something he understood to hold onto in a new situation. She explained that for an anxious dog, knowing what to expect is half the battle. She also refused to pick him up every time he got scared, and warned me that part would be harder for me than for him. She was right. Somewhere around the second week he started smiling in the photos. He was hanging out with her little dogs and her family, going on field trips to the park and coffee shops, staying on his place while she walked away, heeling next to her. He knows sit, place, heel and here now, and he does them for me too. The turnover at my apartment took a couple hours and it was real work. She sat me down and explained everything before we ever touched the dog, then had me practice with Archie while she corrected what I was doing wrong. She's kept sending reminders and answering my questions since, including a few dumb ones about shampoo and brushes. Here's the part I still can't get over. We went to a party a couple weeks after he got home, which is a huge deal for Archie. He sat on other people's laps. He licked hands. He barely cowered. Six weeks ago he would have spent the whole night shaking under my chair. Everyone at the party noticed and commented on the change in his demeanor. I was a proud mama that day! If your dog is the anxious type, the one who hides, trembles, won't eat around strangers, or has to be carried everywhere, I really want you to hear this. A lot of trainers are set up for big confident dogs and don't know what to do with a scared little one. Gina does. She never rushed him, never forced him, and never made me feel silly for babying him all these years. She reads a nervous dog and meets them where they are, then slowly builds them up until they can handle the world on their own. That's exactly what Archie needed. I honestly feel like Gina is just getting started with him, and I'm already thinking of when I can work with her again. If you have a tiny, anxious dog and you're on the fence, go with Gina. A friend had recommended House Paws for at-home euthanasia. Given my cat's intense dislike of the vet, I figured that putting him to sleep at home would allow him to go with some dignity and comfort. Dr. Knode and her assistant arrived and quickly and professionally put him to sleep. Afterwards, they kindly gave me some quiet time to say good bye to my ole buddy, which I greatly appreciated. They told us she needed to be crate trained, but never gave us any instructions on how to do it. They never told us how to help her gain weight. After three days, we brought her back because she attacked me and my mother and proceeded to eat every sweet treat that we had in our house. She obviously had mental and physical problems, and they decided to allow us to foster (obviously hoping that we would spend the money that they didn't want to). Don't waste your time and heart.
