I'd give them more than five stars if I could. Since joining at their opening, I've found that Gracie Barra Murrieta isn't just a team--it's a family. I have trained at other gyms, but this is the best environment for my family because the members are always so welcoming.

    The mat

Joining Gracie Barra Murrieta has been one of the best decisions for our family. Our son is enrolled in the kids class and his experience at this school has been nothing short of exceptional. The increase in control, concentration and confidence our son has gained in just a few short months has been truly sensational. The school is clean and well maintained. The instructors are hands on and exhibit the utmost professionalism. They strike a perfect balance between teaching discipline and having fun. Each class focuses on promoting fitness, technique and self-defense. Depending on the day, class sizes can average 15 to 25 students. Our son loves this program and asks everyday to go to class. He has even given up another sport to frequent class more often. Thank you Professor Mike and Coach Ryna. Your school has changed our lives. Self Control and Focus!

We cannot say enough wonderful things about Professor Mike and his entire team. From the professor to the coaches, everyone is truly amazing and always welcomes us with open arms. This community genuinely feels like family. Professor Mike and Coach Ryna truly care about the kids and their families on a personal level. Professor Mike takes the time to welcome each and every family, and from the very beginning he makes you feel right at home. That kind of care and attention means everything. Professor Mike and Coach Ryna are incredibly patient and kind with the kids. Our son had a rough start and needed some time to adjust, but they held his hand through the entire journey with so much grace and patience, not just for him, but for us as parents too (haha, we definitely needed it!). Now our son is absolutely thriving. His confidence has grown tremendously, and seeing how happy and proud he is has been amazing. We couldn't be happier and are so grateful to be part of such a supportive, caring, and loving jiu-jitsu family. They are truly the best!

We came from Gracie Barra San Clemente and were heartbroken when we left. We moved back to Murrieta and a new Gracie Barra had opened. This studio is amazing!! We have attended 3 other studios in the area over a 4 year period. The staff is beyond exceptional. Professor Mike does a stellar job of not only technique, but respect and teamwork. He treats everyone, including parents, as part of the team. Everyone is greeted with a hello and fist bump. When teaching and while rolling all instructors are attentive and provide guidance. I couldn't be happier at Gracie Barra Murrieta. 5 stars does not provide enough credit.

A friendly atmosphere, family oriented, and the facility is clean, brand new, and lots of space to train on. The locker rooms has its own restrooms. Professor Mike is very technical, informative with loads of knowledge and wisdom, and has a lot of patience for his students, while coach Ryna is a beast. The two are perfect dual to learn from. And... Special guest professors and coaches every week to keep the school entertaining.

As soon as you walk in you're greeted by Coach Ryna who walks you through all the gym's offerings. She's very kind and welcoming. Professor Mike is the head instructor and has such a way with the students. He is a great instructor and very clear/ concise with his teaching making it very beginner friendly but gives amazing insight for the more advanced students as well. Definitely recommend this gym feels like your part of the community from day one!

The entire team has been instrumental in our children's success, both on the training mat and at competitions. My wife and I were both multi-sport athletes, but neither of us ever practiced or competed in combat sports so while we weren't sure what to expect, we both understood what effective teaching/training looked like. From the first day, it was evident that the team was focused on developing comfort and confidence in the new students. They were both immediately assigned to an experienced student who made them feel relaxed and walked them through both the drills and lessons over the next few days. They quickly went from being a little scared of joining a class full of students with varied experience levels to requesting to attend class every day of the week. Of all the extracurricular activities they had tried, this was the one that ignited their passion the most. The professor, Tom Cronin, and the entire team of coaches do an excellent job of keeping the kids engaged by balancing expectations with both fun and recognition. They have a great sense of each student and how to motivate them to excel. They also steer clear of pitfalls we were warned of by friends who have children attending other academies, specifically promotions based on attendance as opposed to merit. At this gym, the children are evaluated on their skills and ability to execute the requisite moves. This encourages them to excel instead of just casually participating. Within 9 months they had developed enough confidence to compete and we were blown away at how well they performed against the competition from around the country. Most importantly, they had a coach prepare them the week before with one on one training and he was the one who attended the competition to coach both of them through all of their matches. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly for us, the academy doesn't just teach them BJJ, it reinforces core behaviors that we expect from our children - Respect, honor, and community. At the end of the day, we are all trying to raise the best humans we can and I can say with absolute confidence, that this academy is an integral part of that process for our children. I absolutely recommend Carlson Gracie, Temecula to anyone with any interest in Brazilian Jui-Jitsu.

I don't rush into reviews--I like to really experience a place first--and this gym has exceeded my expectations in every way. I originally started training here by myself, and now both of my kids train with me. They love it, and honestly, that speaks volumes. The environment is welcoming from day one. It doesn't matter if you're a doctor, lawyer, law enforcement, a mom or dad, or someone walking in off the street--once you step on the mat, everyone is treated the same. No egos, no nonsense--just a solid group of people pushing each other to be better. The professors are top-notch. They take the time to teach real jiu-jitsu the right way, breaking things down so students of all levels can grow. It's also pretty special to train alongside high-level practitioners while still feeling like part of the team. More than anything, this gym feels like family. The friendships I've made here--brothers and sisters on the mat--are ones I never would have found outside of jiu-jitsu. If you're looking for a place with great instruction, strong values, and an even stronger community, this is it.

In February, new management came in and changed the policies with zero notice to existing members. Since the guest pass and full recovery access were the main reasons I joined, they offered me the Recovery Room membership at $69/month. I continued using the dry sauna and cryotherapy consistently, 2-3 times a week. Then this month in May, staff told me I'm not allowed to use the dry sauna anymore with a Recovery membership (only infrared). That was understandable but when I asked to use the bathroom, I was told no because I don't have a "gym" membership. The staff member then suggested me to upgrade to a full gym membership and condescendingly pointed out that "Recovery members usually pay $1,000 a year, and you're paying less," implying I should feel lucky for the limited access. I've been a consistent, paying member the whole time, yet I was treated like a second-class customer because I didn't fit their ideal customer profile? The communication is poor, good staff have mostly been replaced, and there's clear inconsistency. If you signed up with any kind of deal before, it feels like you're now treated like an outsider who no longer fits their system. The recovery amenities are good when you can actually use them, but the sudden rule changes, basic access denials, and condescending attitude make it very frustrating. If you're considering a Recovery membership here, be aware of these issues.
