Gracie Jiu-Jitsu St. George is dedicated to preserving and teaching the pure philosophy of Grandmaster Helio Gracie. Our school is uniquely positioned as a sanctuary for authentic Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, strictly adhering to the principles and methodologies laid down by Helio himself. Unlike many schools that focus on competition, we emphasize self-defense and the foundational techniques that empower practitioners of all ages and abilities.
Our structured curriculum from white belt to black belt is designed to ensure that each student masters the essential aspects of Jiu-Jitsu, progressing through a time-tested system that remains true to Helio’s vision. This comprehensive approach is unmatched, as it prepares students not just for the mat but for real-life situations.
Jake, our head instructor, began his journey in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu in 1992/93, training under the direct lineage of Helio Gracie. With over three decades on the mat, Jake has developed into an exceptional instructor with an unparalleled understanding of Jiu-Jitsu. His deep experience, combined with his dedication to the art, ensures that every student at Gracie St. George receives world-class instruction in a supportive and authentic environment.
History
Established in 2012.
In 1992, Jake's Gracie Jiu-Jitsu journey began with a martial arts magazine that led him to order Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Basics and two bonus VHS tapes. Inspired, he wrote to Rorion Gracie, who directed him to train under Pedro Sauer in Provo, UT. After a ten-month search, Jake began training in 1993, leaving behind 18 months of Muay Thai after being humbled in a sparring session and a no-rules fight. Jake trained tirelessly, earned his black belt in 2006, and began teaching. In 2012, he founded Gracie Zion, teaching with his family. By 2022, Jake fully committed to teaching Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, leaving his architectural career behind. His smooth, efficient style reflects the influence of Ryron Gracie, Pedro Sauer, and Helio Gracie, inspiring students at Gracie Jiu-Jitsu St. George.
