I walked out to my car this afternoon and saw that my tire was flat. I panicked and called AAA. Luckily, they called Graham's Exxon to put on my spare tire. This is probably the quickest tire replacement I've ever had. I get a flat tire at least once a year and I always wait a minimum of 4 hours for AAA to send someone. This time, they were out here in 30 minutes. I think it's because I'm in State College this time rather than a major city, but regardless, I'm very satisfied with the service. Pulled in with a slow leak. Out came the floor jack, tire was pulled, checked for a leak, plugged and reinstalled (hand-torqued lug nuts) in 15 minutes. $20. That's why they have such great ratings. Our daughter is a student at Penn State. We received a call from her last night about a flat tire on her car. We live in Florida and were clueless about an honest, reasonable and reliable tow company and auto repair shop in the State College area. After a few minutes of googling and reading reviews, we decided to call Graham's Exxon. I explained the situation to Greg who was very understanding and worked with our insurance company for the tow. Sean arrived with a tow truck about an hour and a half later and put our daughter's mind at ease. She received a call this morning with an estimate. I called them with a few symptoms I was experiencing with my car - they were courteous on the phone and could see me within the week. They even let me drop the car off the night before, which is nice because they called me the next day before I would have even been able to bring the car in. They were not able to fix the problem there but did offer me a place they knew could and quoted me a good price for towing to that location. There were a few other things wrong with the car but they did not fix them and suggest I worry about the main problem first due to the severity of it - which is good because I ended up deciding that it wasn't worth it and will be junking the car. They even let me keep the car in their lot for a few days while I figured all of this out. Overall, they are fair, honest, polite, and the location has great extended hours! read more

Amazing service! They were fast and very sweet and understanding. They really genuinely cared if I was ok or not after my accident.

Couldn't fix my car problem, but they gave it a second look and didn't gouge me for the trouble. Woke up on a cold morning, planning to make a run of some errands, but found my car wouldn't start. Called AAA, and got a free tow out of my parking lot to Graham's Exxon. They said they could service it after the weekend, and they'd get back to me. On Monday I got a call from them. They couldn't reproduce my car problem (it warmed up over the weekend), but he noticed a few things wrong that might have been the problem. As long as it was in, I got my oil changed and fluids checked, and got it back later that afternoon. They charged me reasonably for labor (I think they probably spent more time on the car than they billed me for) and parts. After I got home, I started having the same problem: hard start when chilly, wouldn't start when cold. Graham's Exxon offered to take a second look, free of charge, since they apparently hadn't fixed the problem. One of their mechanics actually came in early one day, so he could try to reproduce the problem when the car was coldest, but it simply never got chilly enough. In the end, they couldn't fix my car problem, but they didn't charge me for the second attempt. Overall, I'm pretty satisfied. The guy seemed honest, and he didn't try to gouge me by making needless repairs on a problem he couldn't identify. They obviously put a lot of work into my car, running various tests and diagnostics, and the fact that they didn't just throw their hands in the air after they couldn't reproduce my issue is good enough for me. read more

These guys are the greatest; really careful, courteous, and considerate service. I was in a bind with another towing company that was MUCH less helpful (looking at you, tennis towing) and then I thought to call Graham's. They helped me out immediately, were receptive and listened to the problem, and even took a look at my car to try to figure out what caused it to need a tow. For car repair/work I recommend booking in advance! They are very busy/popular, and more often than not I wish I had gotten my car-needs sorted in time to take advantage of their great service and prices. Bonus: Great drink selection. read more

Visiting family in State College over summer, had a tire develop a slow leak traveling from Texas. Pressure sensor went off third time in a month on a Sunday(!) afternoon. Called Graham's based on Yelp feedback, attendant said come on in. We got there, only one young man on duty (Sunday July 15). I was a bit concerned: they are also the AAA dispatch center AND a full-service gas station, and they were pretty busy. Not to worry: this most competent young man juggled gas, phone calls, and us very quickly, got the tire diagnosed and plugged with no 'fast talk' whatsover about a new tire, and presented a very reasonable repair invoice, all in about an hour. Overdue writing this review. Last thanksgiving we were coming in from out of town when steam started coming out of our engine as we pulled in. We didn't know what to do being that it was a holiday weekend and we needed to make sure we could get back home. I called a few places but no one had appointments till Monday. Called Graham's and they said they could have someone look at it given the situation we were in. They were able to help us out and were so nice and professional. More than fair prices too. Graham's is amazing, the entire staff is awesome. A friend told me about them about three years ago and I wouldn't go to anyone else in State College. I'm pathetic and I don't know anything about cars so generally I go to get my oil changed and fluids checked. However, once I needed something fixed on my car that the dealer warranty paid for, Grahams kept in touch with me AND my dad through the whole repair. Which was so nice of them to go out of their way and contact both of us since I have very little car repair knowledge. They've also talked me through jumping my car, and ran an engine scan on my car free of charge. They never over charge for service, are always extremely nice, and very trustworthy. These are really great guys working here. I went in because of a flat tire and instead of just charging me for a brand new tire they looked at the old one and spotted a large nail that I must of run over and proceeded to tell me they could fix it for a small fee. I thought they would charge me at least 30-40$ but I came in the next day and they told me it was a total of 10$! Great, honest, and knowledgable workers! They aim for quality in customer service instead of trying to suck money out of you like every other chain auto workshop. read more

These guys are the real deal - a neighborhood shop that tells you exactly what's going on and gets the job done. Instead of a service manager, you can talk to the actual mechanic. Other places I've gone to have just shrugged and said sorry when they couldn't reproduce a problem. Graham's kept working with me to figure it out, then fixed it for a reasonable price. They do have a very old-school work order system, though. Everything's hand-written on those triplicate paper forms, so you need to hang on to those for your own records. And they are often booked out a few days. So don't expect to call them in the morning and have your car done by that afternoon. I'm told that Mondays are the worst. But the quality of their work and their communication is so good that I can't give them any less than five stars. So if you know your car, keep good records, and schedule ahead of time, go to Graham's and they will do a great job. read more

My 2003 Ford Focus was making a deep, creaking noise every time I turned. I called Graham's because I saw they had great reviews and I live right across the street. They took my car that night and looked at it the next day. It was done by 2pm. Pat called me to check on the noise; he wasn't hearing the same sound I was and wanted to double-check that he was listening for it. He was super upfront and honest and very helpful. I picked up my car--no noise! Price was reasonable, labor was reasonable; in fact, my total bill came to less than the estimate cost I was given over the phone! I asked Pat what to do if I hear the noise again. He told me that I need to come when he's at work and take it for a test drive with him so we're listening for the same noise and he'll take care of it. I haven't driven my car that much since I got it back, so I'm not 100% sure that everything is taken care of, but I was so impressed with the service. I mentioned in passing that my battery light is always on, and Pat checked my battery level for free for me--that is REALLY impressive. Another shop I've been to charges about $50 for that diagnostic. Overall, I'm incredibly impressed with the customer service I received here. I felt like work was fair and well explained, and I didn't feel like I was taken advantage of because I'm a woman and I don't know a lot about cars. It is so hard to find a good honest mechanic in State College, and these guys definitely fit the bill. I can bring my own oil and filter and they will change it for $20 no problem. When I had to pass inspection, they did not try to BS me with "things that have to be fixed before I put that sticker on" just to drum up business. Very honest people read more

I've been going to Grahams for almost 15 years now. I've had 5 vehicles in that time and not once have they told me to repair something that didn't need it. I found them by going to Fire pebble up the street where I was told my care would take $340 in repairs (this was in 97) so I brought my car back home and asked a friend if he knew anyone that did mech work. He recommended me to Grahams and we went down the street within 20 minutes for them to take a look. An hour later they called me and told me my car was fixed. I was worried I had been charged a ton, but instead I was told "It was just a loose battery cable, we put it on properly. No charge, come pick it up." I was floored, when I got there I asked them about all the other stuff fire pebble told me to get fixed. They told me that while those issues would be a problem someday, I probably had another 2 years before I had to fix em. I've been loyal to Grahams ever since. They've also had lower rates for the same jobs that my wife was having done at her 'place' she trusted. An inspection at Grahams very rarely goes over $80, at the places she was going if we got out under $300 because of 'minor repairs' she was lucky. They also run all week long for AAA, which has been nice when a tire blows or in my case my car died at the transfer station on a Saturday morning. I've recommended them to a bunch of the clients in my own business and recommend them any time someone asks about a tow or a repair. And the most important part for last. I found out grahams does NOT STEAL CARS, as far as I know they are the only towing company that does NOT tow from the apartment parking lots in town. Where other towing companies are so damn happy to tow you 2 miles and charge you $75 to $150, Grahams has taken the high road and won't. Because they do, I'll ALWAYS use them over the jackasses that steal. And I'll always tell everyone I can about them to keep them in business. Graham's has been my gas station and repair shop now for 8 years in State College. They have kept my cars running smoothly at an affordable price. They are service oriented: it's nice to have the windshields cleaned while getting a gas fill-up. Who does that anymore? These guys are good, honest mechanics, and they're really friendly to boot. They'll tell you what's up with your car and how much it will cost to fix it, then ask you if that's ok. Their prices were extremely fair and they called me before fixing any problem and gave me choices. They are a small shop but I was very happy with the turn around time and the price that I paid. Since I don't live in State College, I was taking a shot in the dark when it comes to repair stations and relied on the reviews.
