Took a break from reading comprehension and accompanied the grade 5's on a field trip here the other day to learn about wetlands! The architecture in this place is absolutely amazing! Each section is so beautifully and thoughtfully done! The website says: Welcome to Granary Road. Heard about this market from a girlfriend and decided to take a Sunday drive with the family. What a beautiful, clean and amazing market! I have no idea how much we spent but there must have been 30 samples and I tasted about 20 items, haha!!! We bought hot pepperoni, honey garlic and a bundnerfleisch. I've no idea how to say it but I have a pic of it. There's various package sizes of the assorted meats with a great variety of cheese too. We bought yellow curry and sampled so many things! The vendors are extremely friendly and we really liked the lady who sells wood items that's been burnt and etched with 10,000 volts. Totally visit her kiosk!!! Next up, the dip station. We sampled crab dip, bacon dip and red pepper hummus. Bought the bacon dip. The retro candy kiosk was really neat...we ended up with 5 dif chocolate bars. We also bought 2 soup mixes and then met the hand pie lady. OMG... her pastry is 100% butter based so it's crunchy not super flaky. If you like a dense, crunchy crust - go here! Boys had the Aussie beef pie for dinner and I had a lamb pie. I can't rave enough about it. Served it with celery and carrots sticks with the bacon dip - Sunday dinner in a pinch! After the vendors, we headed outside for a free hayride pulled by a tractor. The greenhouse has a petting zoo, with sheep, rabbits, an alpaca photo booth and a bunch of games. Overall, we had a great time and can't wait to return. Those meat pies beat simple Simon pies hands down with substantial portions. Next time I'll try a fruit pie. There's a ton of other cool vendors but you really should check it out for yourself! read more

What a pleasant surprise! I wasn't too sure what we were getting into when making the drive west of Calgary and through the rolling hills to Granary Road. The location was well signed and it was easy to determine where we needed to park and get entry tickets. The line in the gift shop was about 5 people long but proceeded quickly. The staff member did a good job at ringing us through and putting on the wristbands which Also allow patrons re-entry if needed to the park. The gift shop was clean, neat and well organized with both touristy trinkets, educational stuff for the kids, and little snacks. The entry gate looks like it had recently been kicked off the hinges, but I'm pretty sure it's fixed by now. The first thing I noticed was how well the facility was signed. Lots of different outdoor activities for the kids to explore and learn about things like ; aunts, butterflies , frogs, bees, bats, all while having tons of time to play and have fun too. We saw some live chickens which the kids could feed. 99% of the equipment for the kids was in like-new condition. 1 slide was closed for repair, but was well marked and closed off very professionally so nobody would get hurt. There is food on-site like; cotton candy, hot dogs, ice cream, drinks, right near the kids attractions, as well as a restaurant and other types of food and beverages and home made pizza. No issues here. The entry fees are a little on the expensive side, so it won't be a place to come each weekend , but still a good time. If you haven't been, I'd recommended it for sure . read more

This farmers market is located south of Calgary near spruce meadows. Great place to visit however there seems to be a lack of customers supporting this place. The main restaurant was closing due to high rent. Too bad because the other vendors will be affected. Hope this place will survives. Located on the grounds is an excellent children's learning and exploring centre. Kids and adults should visit the outdoor learning center. read more

So we took my nieces here on tuesday and it was "a hoot and a holler" Well the 2 year old really enjoyed herself. I went on a tuesday so the market wasnt open, but as a kids place its pretty danged good. Its all outside so dress accordingly. I didnt, and as such chasing a 2 year old in 30 degree shadeless sun while wearing pants was its own adventure in horror. The petting zoo aspect wasnt as good as I would of liked, thats the only reason it didnt get 5 stars. But that could also be because we went on a low staffed tuesday read more

I won't judge too harshly because this market is so new, it's just getting on its feet. My sister and I went for the market experience, not the play place, although that looked amazing. The market was fun. The selection is very small but I think that as time goes, they'll grow. There's a ton of empty space inside for more vendors, I'm sure it'll fill up. For now, go with an open mind and don't expect that overwhelming market experience. I still had a great time! Since everything at Granary Rd can be found at the Calgary Farmers Market by Blackfoot, I'll be going there for now, just until Granary grows a bit. Give it some time! I'm sure this place will be an awesome addition to Calgary's market scene. read more

Granary Road has a Christmas market going on and this was my first visit here. They have a great mix of product and food vendors. There's some more well known businesses like Gummy Boutique and lesser known ones like Dipsology. If you visit during daylight hours they have alpacas for petting and free hay rides. Santa is also there and when there aren't kids lined up for photos you'll find him wandering around spreading Christmas cheer. While not as big as other Christmas markets, there's also not the crowds like other ones. My wife and I wandered around the other night quite leisurely without fighting through people just trying to glom the free samples. read more

I was a vendor at this market from late 2018 to the end of Feb 2019. The management was super friendly and seemed to be very, very supportive when I came to discover this so I signed. Now I just looked at the vendor list and I don't think there is even one left from that time. The management's attitude completely changed once I was set up. I purchased and set up a permanent and very professional, beautiful shop at the entrance. There are no storm doors so every time the front door opened in the subzero temperatures, the giant blower above my head roared. This became a challenge for those of us at the front and for our clients. Then, they would turn it off and we would freeze. I became very ill due to this. Why would you build such a dynamic building in Calgary without a storm vestibule? There were many other issues with the manager who then was Charlene DeLisle. I finally left as it became obvious to me that vendors were not appreciated when they asked for things or made suggestions to help the market to thrive. Though many disagreed with me, shortly after I left, many other vendors did too. Ultimately, the owner and then manager didn't care about the comfort or health of their vendors and clients. I put in 10 - 12 hour days including driving and invested a considerable sum to build my shop which I then had to disassemble and take home. It's really too bad because the venue is beautiful. The traffic was very poor. Their weekend events were poorly put together and marketed and attendance to them was also poor. They did not keep their commitments to keep each of us unique either. I would not recommend this as a place to put up shop unless management has changed and then, you still have the owner to contend with. I have many years of experience in sales and marketing and have owned and operated several very successful businesses and this was my retirement thing. Best of luck to everyone there now. I was contacted by granary road marker to come set up as a vender. After deliberating do to the distance (I live in Evansburg, 422 km away) I contacted them and was assured their vendors do very well as they have a large volume of shoppers and are looking for unique items as I offer fro sale. I booked 2 dates just before Christmas 2019. I left home at 4:00 am and drove to the market, my first impression was this is a waste of time as this market is so far from anywhere! I set up in a small booth what had a large triple sink in it taking up probably 15% of my booth space. Their was next to no shoppers at this venue, I had 2, count them 2 paying customers all day! Their was a lady next to my booth who also had 2 paying customers all day. It was so slow I wandered about aimlessly talking to other vendors with the same impression, many other vendors where also coming buy to ask if I had any luck yet with the same story as myself the the others I went to visit with. I emailed to ask if I can get a refund for my second date as I'm not about to waste gas and another day to go to this place, I got a response saying no, they do not have a refund policy and how the market was a success and many vendors sold out! I don't know who they where talking to, I talked to approximately 1/2 of the vendors on site and no one was happy with the shopper turn out. read more

This place will be lovely in another year or two. For now, VERY DISAPPOINTING. We weren't even sure why it was open. It's no where near ready so I'm not sure why they are advertising it as if they are. The restaurant and market are unfinished and not yet open, the major buildings do not have occupancy permits so they cannot. The gift shop is cute, farm themed merchandise but "not all of (the merchandise) is in the system so we can't actually sell it yet" We went at 3pm (5 is closing time) with the intent of just looking around. I am sure the amusement/learning Park is great, but we were not willing to pay 13 for each child (x2) and 17 for each adult (x3). We will come back when there is more open and have more time to spend in the learning park. Maybe towards end of September or October, but I will be calling first! read more

What a waste of time. As the themed play areas are only suitable for kids 12 and under, why charge so much for adults who can do little but stand and watch. I can do that for free at any of the city's great playgrounds. The website is misleading and many of the things the kids were most interested in (live bees, real bats, echo location maze) weren't operational. The market had few booths open and fewer dining options. If you go, take your own lunch. This is a clear case of unpreparedness. Granary Road should have waited until they were ready instead of angering families like mine who will not be making the 45 minute trip out again. I can think of better ways to blow half a day and $65. read more

What a cool new addition to Calgary! I got to check Granary Road out at the sneak a peak but they have put together something really fun in south Calgary. I am particularly excited for the market to be fully open and functioning they have some really great local vendors in and it's great that we'll be able to shop them in the south. I am also definitely going to return to visit the Loft Restaurant for some tasty eats, they weren't open yet when we visited. Definitely geared for kids there's a fun park area in the back with lots of educational but still fun displays such as an ant farm, mushroom field, petting zoo and bee area (among others). The staff seemed really passionate and knowledgeable about their stations and were able to give you a good run down of the different parts of the display. What a great field trip opportunity for kids. It's nice that you can visit the market on it's own and then only pay for the other parts if you want too. They also have a great patio area overlooking the pond to enjoy all your market treats. read more

A fantastic concept for families in Calgary. The other farmer's markets around don't have much for kids to do. This is an insanely large activity park with tons of various pods. For example the frog area has in ground trampolines and slides, the spider area is spider web swings and a huge net climber. You could easily spend hours and not get to play on everything. My 1.5 year old was definitely too young for a lot of the areas but enjoyed the frog area, and the petting zoo. I am so thrilled the market is open now as it allows me to pickup some of my market staples all in one spot. We had tacos for lunch from one of the vendors. The concept is great and I can't wait to explore more. read more

I had a stall at Granary Road Market From June 1st, 2019 until December 22nd, 2019. At that point, they shut the market down for, what was supposed to be 6 weeks for Christmas and some maintenance. I had signed a lease at the beginning of June for a period of 1 year and was in stall #47 across from Roosters Ice Cream shop. Even though there was a vote from a majority of vendors to remain open in January, they decided to close against our wishes and then tried to charge us full rent while they were stopping us from doing business. This was the first time that they broke our lease.The next time was at the last week in February, as we were getting ready to open, they informed me that they weren't going to be opening until May and, when they did open, I would not be allowed to have the stall that I had signed a lease on. This was the second time that they breached my lease. Not only did they stop providing the service for which I had signed the lease for, in good faith, but they also weren't going to give me a stall to do business for the final month of the existing lease. Instead, they asked me to sign a new lease for a different stall. I was told that I would be able to choose the stall that I wanted as I was the only single market vendor that stayed with them. I went in and selected stall #38 and signed a lease for that stall. Approximately 1 week after I had moved all of my stuff over to the new location, I was informed that they had decided to lease that stall to someone else. This was the third time that they broke our lease and we decided to pack up our stuff and find a new home. As we were packing up our stuff, I asked to have them issue me a cheque for our security deposit. I was told that the owner wasn't in and wouldn't be able to but that it would be sent to the address on file for me. Since then, I have sent several emails asking to have my deposit returned with no response. Finally I got a response on May 19 informing me that they wouldn't return my deposit as I breached the contract. As I have copies of the leases, it is easy to show that this is blatantly false. I also, of course, have all of the documentation leading up to these events. This is definitely one of the most unethical companies that I have ever dealt with and I would recommend that anyone thinks very long and hard before they do any kind of business dealings with them. read more

We visited the Granary on the last day of the summer holidays, to have a look and give the children a treat. We were not disappointed. We were excited to see the huge frog, bull rushes and mushrooms alongside the play equipment for the children. Even our 1year old enjoyed bouncing on the sunken trampoline. Our 4year old repeatedly got stuck on the huge spiders web and our 7 year old didn't want to leave the zip wire in the orchard. At each station there were information boards and questions to answer. I was very surprised that a mushroom contains more potassium than a banana and its DNA is close to a humans! The food hall was also worth a look but could probably have been more child friendly. The market is small but as it expands it will become a useful venue to buy local products. We went during a long drought and I would suggest anyone going should do so in play or old clothes, as we returned very dusty but happy. read more

Huge disappointment. Totally unprepared for customers and minimal vendors. Went on a Sunday at 1:30 pm for lunch. Pizza vendor was overwhelmed and not taking new orders. The wait for perogies at the perogy vendor was 20-25 minutes after you ordered. Mexican place was closed for "siesta" until 2:30 pm. The Loft Kitchen was a major disappointment. To me, the website is misleading. It is NOT a restaurant, but just another food vendor. While good food, it is incredibly expensive for what you get, only half of the menu was available and it is cash only. I went away hungry. I don't know how families can afford to eat here. I don't have children so can't review the interpretive play area, but it will take a lot of coaxing to get me back here. The farmers market aspect to it is very underwhelming. You would be better served just visiting one of the great farmers markets in the city. I had truly hoped for something special. read more

Very disappointing!! The last time we were here my kids could do a lot more things. However they've change some stuff so my poor son who is almost 8 years old but only 40 pounds can no longer do the zip line and a few other things because they changed it. Bought seasons passes, I wish I had now, very disappointed. read more
