This place is alot of fun and something to do in the summertime. It is outside of Calgary but it's worth the drive. My advice is when you arrive put your name down at the restaurant because most likely there will be a waitlist to get in. The restaurant itself was delicious. It's authentic Mexican food. Their nachos are the best in the city. So much good stuff like beans, cheese throughout the plate and a home made salsa. Their Chimichanga was also very yummy too. Also, don't forget to have a slice of their Saskatoon pie with a scoop of the ice cream! YUMMY! The farm itself has their own mini farmers market selling vegetables from their farm at a very good rate. So much cheaper than the grocery stores and better. If you go in the off peak season, entry is free and you can head right in for a great brunch or lunch. Vibes are cozy and old school, with lots of wood and pewter ceilings. Service is kind and super fast. Food was very large portions and super flavourful. Most items have a Mexican twist on them which we loved. Also offering specials every day. This is a beautiful place to go. The scenery is very beautiful and the plants are reasonably priced. They used to make extra money through the restaurant by serving good food at affordable prices. This year the food was not as nice the last 5 years I've attended and they've increased the prices considerably. Two coffees and two entrees shouldn't cost over $60. The chicken was undercooked and the flavor locklaster as well as the beef which was extremely chewy. The tip is set with the minimum of 18% to 30% which is cheeky for a farm. I would still recommend going but advise you eat lunch before your trip. read more

Went here in a group of 4 for Saturday lunch and farm experience. It's a great place if you're looking to spend a bright sunny day in farm and have a feast alongside. There was a 30 minute waiting for table but you could very much spend that time roaming around, checking out their bakery, shops and farmers market. In food, we tried Yam fries, Onion rings, Vegetarian tacos, burrito and enchiladas. Out of these, I would recommend Yam fries, enchiladas and tacos. We were in the neighborhood and found this hidden gem in amongst the rural landscape near Okotoks, Alberta. We were quickly seated inside and our wonderful server, Jenn, was quite possibly the most efficient, friendly and helpful person we could have been fortunate enough to have to guide us through our pending culinary experience. I started with a bowl of the potato bacon soup, which is a chicken broth based soup, and was very tasty. Our choices were the Guero bowl (a blend of white rice topped with fresh avocado, fresh veggies, pico de gallo, black beans, pickled onions, and tahini dressing) and the chicken chimichanga (organic flour tortilla stuffed with chicken, finished with a perfectly fried crunch, and topped with chipotle sauce, and served with a side of sour cream and salsa). Loved the experience I had at Saskatoon Farm. It was super busy, so make sure you go around opening time. Fresh produce, carrots, basil, rosemary, golden beets, courgette, you name it, they grow it. You can go Saskatoon berry picking or enjoy an awesome freshly baked goodies at the cafe. Had a cinnamon roll with Saskatoon berries on top, it was the best cinnamon roll I ever had in my life. Did I say it's freshly baked The sourdough bread I purchased is to die for. It was warm when I bought, smell divine. I live in the SE so the Saskatoon Farm is actually really close for me, however even if it's not that close it's a fun place to visit and you should make the trip out there at least once. A beautiful farm setting and a cute little "main street" type setup including a general store, market, restaurant and lots of plants, trees, berry bushes etc.. The restaurant is really good and often quite busy, we went for brunch the first time but by the time we waited it was lunchtime so we went for lunch which is a lot of Mexican dishes which are very tasty. Of course, they have lots of pies for sale made with their fresh saskatoon berries. It's a lot of fun to spend some time out there in the summer and pick berries, they update their facebook page with which berries are in season and how the picking is looking. Recently we went out there to stock up on farm fresh vegetables, you could fill an orange veggie bag with as much produce as you could fit for $12.00, it was a great deal for farm fresh produce. I also briefly looked at their tree prices and they were really reasonable compared to some of the other places we had been looking. A great place for a day trip that keeps improving and adding to it's attractions and activities. The rambling eccentic farmhouse buildings - one with a front wall of teapots - house shopping, bakery, restaurant and homemade food store. Greenhouses and paths are dotted with beautiful plant displays, statuary, art, photo op spots and seating overlooking a river valley. The farmers market is supplemented with u-pick as berries come into season and well behaved dogs and cats wander and greet guests. Newer uses include evening wedding receptions and craft classes. Unfortunately I wasn't as happy with lunch at the restaurant as on previous visits. My veggie quiche had been microwaved, making the crust soggy and the whole thing lava hot. The drive to Saskatoon Farm was worth it! The farm is full of beautiful trees, flowers, sights, and vintage buildings. The weather was perfectly sunny and warm when we visited around the first week of July. We were hungry, so we went straight for the cafe. We ordered the breakfast wrap and huevos rancheros. The restaurant was busy, but the food came quickly and the servers were all attentive and very personable. We enjoyed our meal and headed for the shops and the lookout. The shops could use some fixing and cleaning up, as the merchandise looked a bit disorganized - the shelves need some wiping down and dusting. Also, we were waiting at least 20 minutes before someone came to help us and ring us through the check out. The cafe washrooms need to get renovated as well. There are loads of activities around the farm, especially the last week of July as the Saskatoon berries are ready for picking. The lookout is also a great place to sit, relax, and enjoy the scenery. We were very impressed with how fresh their fruits and veggies were. Their green onions were huge and their strawberries were really sweet! We thouroughly enjoyed the Saskatoon Farm and will definitely come back to visit! read more

What happened to the food? 3 stars for my love of this great little place, in the middle of nowhere. I've been coming here for many years. Well worth the trip for garden centre items, plants, trees. But - The food is nothing like it used to be, very sad! Really disappointed with the food! Lacklustre waffle, served plain, barely warm, with a small dish of runny liquidy whip cream and Saskatoon berries. I had this dish before and it was fabulous then. The Omelette was very basic. Stopped by for some impromptu berry picking and exploring. There's a store that is kitschy and strange, not in a good way. Come for the berries! There's a mini farmer's market, a cafe, and a restaurant. Did not try any of those. There are beautiful views of valleys below, and the foliage around. When you first enter this place you're surrounded by lush plants in all directions. Very beautiful and good for photo oops. As for the berry picking-- I recommend trying if you haven't. I hadn't tasted Saskatoon berries before this and was able to sample them and enter the picking area for 2$. To fill a bucket is 15$, but ours wasn't very full in the end (so much tasting!) so it ended up costing 2$ for the minimal berries we picked. read more

What a wonderful hidden gem. We drove out from north Calgary today to check out the nursery. It took us 30 min (maybe I drive a tad over speed limit) from Country Hills Blvd. A beautiful drive! The nursery was not up and running yet. But we easily filled two hours browsing the wonderful home furniture and decor throughout many quaint buildings. If you are looking for a unique item for your home this is the place. The prices are reasonable for the decor you will find. After we browsed and purchased a few signs we had lunch. Absolutely one the best breakfasts I have had in a long time. I ordered the Country Biscuit Breakfast. It was delicious. Fresh biscuits topped with an omelette with peppers. Smothered in a wonderful sauce and cheese. Oh And bacon!!!!!! We will definitely go back somewhat regularly. read more

aMAHzing!!! Couple of my girls and I went here on the weekend, as my friend works part time there and raved how amazing this place was. And she wasn't joking. Beautiful drive out there, was a gorgeous morning. The u-pick was closed for the season but we were on a mission for breaky and browsing. The steamed chai (with almond milk) was to die for! The best I've ever had. And for breaky I had a build your own omelet. Which was great too. And our food came out insanely quick which was appreciated as we were hungry! We've gone out here quite a few times and we just love it! Love walking around and checking out all the random art all over their walls, furniture, and other neat items :) But, for a client of mine (a senior) this was her first time. She was sad and needed a pick me up so I took her here for a drive and lunch and she absolutely fell in love with the place. We toured around the store part admiring all the yummy treats as well as products. We enjoyed our lunch, she had a spring salad and bun with Saskatoon berry vinaigrette and I had the buffalo barley soup and bun- which was amazing! Great place to check out if you're looking for an excursion outside of the city. We went recently so there was not as much stuff to see as we would anticipate if we came during the warmer months but had a great time. We stopped by the restaurant for a brunch (highly recommend). The servers were very friendly. The mains were all right, but the Saskatoon pie with the homemade Saskatoon Berry ice cream is die for. I slightly regret not picking up a pint of that ice cream at the shop on the way out, but hey, more the reason to go again next time! There was also a neat animal pen as well. How is it possible there are no reviews for this gem? Saskatoon Farm has a lot going on: Nursery (flowers and plants), u-pick, art, furniture, gifts, jewellery,crafts, bakery, ice cream stand, and cafe. I first got turned onto SF by a friend who was raving about their hanging plant baskets. So glad I finally went. Their plants are great. You sort of wander around the greenhouses and sheds (mind the pig and the free roaming chickens) and pick up what you want. They provide wagons for those (like me) who end up with many plants. They have flowers, shrubs, trees, you name it. Their buildings are an eclectic (but purpose built) set of old fashioned looking fronts So quaint. Inside, you can wander all over the place - up the stairs, down the stairs, nooks and crannies - looking at furniture, art, knick knacks, you name it. The cafe is always busy. The food is just okay. Burgers, sandwiches, soups. However, it's decent and sitting on their patio, wine in hand, watching the chickens peck around the flowers is pretty neat. Get there early: The parking lots get super full and you might have to walk a ways. Also, don't wear heels, the ground is a bit uneven on the pathways. I saw a couple of trying- to- look -cool teenage girls texting and walking and ending up on their butts. If you've already taken guests to Banff, Drumheller and whatever else, Saskatoon Farm is an excellent day trip (I know, I know, Okotoks isn't THAT far). But you can certainly spend an hour or two looking around and having lunch. I haven't tried the u-pick, but plan to this summer. Oh and be sure and keep an eagle eye on the road for the sign (small one) to turn off the highway. It's super easy to miss it. read more

Take a little drive south of the city and discover your inner green thumb here. A beautiful garden centre and resturant nestled at the end of a dead end road. When you arrive don't be deterred by all of the vehicles parked along the entrance road, drive on up and you can usually find a spot to park in one of the upper lots. The resturant has a great selection of authentic Mexican foods and covers everything from breakfast to dessert. Although they are open everyday they do close about an hour before the actual farm so make sure to stop in before you shop. Everything we have tried here has been very good but my favorite is the Churros. You get 6 fresh warm Churros with caramel sauce, whipped cream, Saskatoon berry compote and farm made Saskatoon berry ice cream. If nothing else I would highly recommend stopping in just for these! If the weather is nice try to get a table outside and don't worry if it's a bit breezy as they have complimentary shawls at all the tables to warm up with! Make sure you drive your biggest vehicle with the most available space in it as you will need all that space when you start your shopping journey. They have great plants at an awesome price so stock up while you're there! (My huge flower baskets lasted the whole season last year even into the first frosts) A great place to spend an hour or a half a day, visit the farm, the birds in the coop, the greenhouses, the u-pick, the shops and of course the resturant. Lots to discover here but do watch out weekend can be a crazy time and you can expect a lineup both on the road in and at the resturant. read more

Such a fun place! Lots to do here! If you like plants they have an amazing selection of succulents and other in door plants. The littler farmers market has some amazingly fresh veggies and fruits and obv lots of saskatoon berries! Quick tip for any one visiting, if there are people parking down the road on the way into the gate it doesn't mean the main parking lot is full! so double check before parking far away! I watch Heartland, a show based in the Calgary area and they're always talking about Saskatoon berries so I had to try them while visiting Canada. We found this farm which had the most delicious Saskatoon berry pie. They also had a fantastic collection of goodies made at the farm like tarts, scones, berry spread, etc. We ate at the cafe, which was very busy. We went to one of my favourite country stops about a week ago - The Saskatoon Farm! I told my neighbor about this place and she went about a week earlier & totally loved it! It is also a fantastic stop to visit in the summer and fall to buy fresh veggies or produce ! In the autumn they have big net bags for $10 to fill with a selection of their items! They have antiques, beautiful carved furniture and Knick knacks for your home or buy as gifts. There is an ice cream shop open in summer to enjoy cold treats while enjoying the day. A large open restaurant gives people a chance to sit and enjoy delicious food off their menu. We bought a fresh baked just out of the oven Saskatoon Berry Pie from next door at the coffee stop area and we were given plates & utensils to enjoy our yummy pie at the restaurant tables. Needless to say - the 3 of us gobbled that whole pie down in record time! There is also a penned area with a fatty pot bellied pig (so cute) with his buddies of unique looking chickens and turkeys roaming about. Kids would love seeing them! A special area housed baby birds and also adorable. No Dogs are allowed here so you may have to leave your fur baby home. If you never been here, I'd say take a summer drive out and enjoy a leisurely day here. We also bought ourselves 3 peanut butter cookies to enjoy on our way back to Calgary. It was a little bit of a wait since it's a Sunday but we were soon ushered to our seat with a friendly waiter.Hubby ordered the chicken enchiladas, while I and my son split the Dutch waffles. I love how the Saskatoon berries compote and cream combined well with the waffles that the maple syrup didn't seem needed. I also ordered the Mexican flan and wow! It's amazing if you eat that alongside the compote and it's just so decadent you wouldn't feel as guilty with the berries to compensate. I love how the flan isn't as sweet but just enough to satisfy anyone's craving, and with a cup of freshly brewed coffee.. that's just heaven! Thanks for the wonderful experience, we were happy with the food and good service that we always made sure to buy a takeout of their famous butter tart. I really love their selection of high quality plants you can buy, the staff who know what they're talking about, and the really fun atmosphere of this place. The cafe and gift store are open year round. The food at the cafe is plentiful, incredibly fresh, and uses their own product or locally produced fod when possible (see all the different varieties of saskatoon berry baking if you don't believe me!) If you've ever been to a trade show around Calgary (Spruce Meadows especially at Christmas, for instance) and seen awesome saskatoon berry bakings this is probably the people you saw. I really recommend whatever is on special that day, plus a saskatoon berry butter tart to finish it off.
