While my kids were using the restroom, he abruptly started yelling at me in front of them because he thought they were taking too long. It was completely uncalled for and very upsetting, my children were scared by how aggressive and rude he was. I've never been treated so disrespectfully as a customer, especially while traveling with young kids. This man clearly dislikes tourists, which is strange considering he runs a souvenir shop meant for tourists. I strongly suggest avoiding this place -- there are plenty of other stores that treat customers with basic decency.

I LOVE the concept here. Every ten weeks, they showcase ten new artists. Everything is for sale. I liked some of the art, and bought two beanies for my kids. Bonus: if they don't like them, I do. They were reasonably priced and a nice thick knit. The owners, Tom and Henri, are gracious, friendly, and personable. Their enthusiasm is contagious. There are even some novelty items like keychains shaped like taxi cabs and Empire State Building models that make for perfect little gifts. What keeps this from being a five-star review comes down to two things. First, the pricing inconsistency can feel frustrating. Some items are considered worth the money, while others are clearly marked up due to their prime location and the fact that they are mostly imported goods made in China. Notably, nothing is made in the USA, except for a bottle of water in the store and the cash when receiving change. Second, the store can feel overwhelming because of the sheer volume of merchandise packed into the space. It's exciting, but also easy to feel like you're being pulled in ten directions at once. Overall, though, the 'I Love NY Gift Shop' is precisely what a Times Square souvenir stop should be: fun, vibrant, and full of options at a marked-up price plus the added trump tax. It may not be the cheapest or calmest shopping experience, but it's memorable and somewhat convenient to window shop. For affordable NY items, shop at Amazon and have them shipped home. The first shop that we came across was NYC Megamart on the corner of 7th Avenue and West 40th Street. There were two entrances - one on each street. Right at the front of the store was a rack of postcards... i was so happy! It was so easy! Mission accomplished! Of course, I looked at the other merchandise: key chains, scarves, gloves, beanies, luggage, pens, pencils, figurines, coin purses, magnets, etc. However, I stuck to the plan and just got the postcards... yay! Note: service could improve. There was a customer ahead of me and behind me. I placed the postcards and my cash payment on the counter, but the guy behind me cut in front of me. Wow.
