This is a " not well advertised" cute store that sells city items like NYPD / FDNY/ etc T-shirt's, ornaments , not only for tourists but for a nice gift if you are traveling as well. I bought an ornament for someone who recently moved to NYC and I bought something for myself as well bc I found it very cute. I will shop again bc as a city worker I get a discount and they have nice gifts there. read more

Forget all of those other souvenir stores that dot the city and sell knock off products! The City Store is the ONLY licensed NYC shop the sells pretty much everything. Although I only use their webstore and have yet to go to their actual retail store I wouldn't buy any souvenir stuff anywhere else! Not much to add here besides the fact that they give a discount to New York City Civil Servants which is pretty awesome. Try it out! read more

This hidden gem is quite unique as being a official souvenir shop for the city. I was looking for metro card holders all over and realized ooh the City Store. Duuh! I walk past here every morning but they don't open till 10 am. So on my lunch break walked over and had found a nice selection of holders. Coney Island, Grand Central and original city hall station. The store is not large at all. If 10 people or more are in there at any given time the space is crowded. They have a nice assortment of souvenirs and other boroughs represented. The card holder was $2.75 which like I said better than eBay or other sites as I browsed internet. So if you are ever by Muni building stop by and do the tourist stuff. Come and buy a piece of NYC! Like, literally, you can shell out $20 for a 1998 taxi medallion here at the NY CityStore, located in the Manhattan Municipal Building on Centre Street. A NY afficionado, I was so psyched to find this store when I was at this cursed city building to replace my lost monthly transit check (if you're a NYC employee you get a discount but you only get one card for the year and it's inevitable that you will lose it). The girl behind the desk was a royal you know what and on the way out, this little oasis in the labyrinthine government building hallways definitely brightened my day. CityStore's NYC book selection is extensive and really interesting to look through if you are a native or a visitor. The small store is full of zany Big Apple trinkets like caution tape scarves, manhole cover or subway token cufflinks, little radiator pins (so cute) and the like, radio control taxis, mini models of the major NYC bridges and wide selection of kid stuff. There are also NYPD, Firefighter and Park Service sweatshirts, if you've got a fetish or anything. Oh, and if you're getting married next store at City Hall and forget the goods, you can buy a $9 "diamond" ring at this store...and there's a heart shaped fried egg mold for your first morning as a couple. ;) If you love the city or are looking for a gift for the quintessential New Yorker, make a visit. Or, if you have to come down to this area for some hellish city procedure, then definitely stop in here to kill some time. read more

I second Susan L.'s opinion. This is a fun souvenir shop, with lots of surprisingly classy items. Reasonably priced books, pieces of jewelry, clothes, housewares, and tchotchkes. Finds: a onesie with the logo "Made in New York," magnets that look like parking tickets, mugs with Sanitation Dept. inspection ratings, and a circular rug printed with a hyperrealistic version of a manhole cover. (I bought the latter, obviously.) And of course, the usual merch with MTA, NYPD, FDNY, and DSNY logos. Conveniently located in the northern wing of the Municipal Building, it's close to the Brooklyn Bridge/City Hall subway stop. There's a ramp into the ground-floor space, making the entrance accessible for those with wheeled transport. The young lady at the register (Nadia? Natasha? Sorry!) was an enthusiastic ambassador for all things NYC. She gave me a tour of the whole shop and made some recommendations. She said she's hoping to become a lawyer. A magic place with wonderful products, it reflect the neighborhoods and memories of New York, located at the crossroad of the Brooklyn Bridge walking path and City Hall Park. I wandered in and was astounded by the variety of NY-centric goods. Whether you live here or visiting with family, their stuff brings you closer to the spirit of the real NY experience. I had family in for the holidays & was looking for memorable gifts and found something for all- quality necklaces & cufflinks with real subway tokens embedded, beautiful blankets with classic borough maps, scarves, t-shirts, mini subway cars, fire & garbage trucks, pencils, etched glasses, books- and everything is affordable! The onesie from the Health Department with 'Grade Pending' is the best! Real street signs from your old neighborhood? Amazing! The space is minute, but they seem to use every inch of it. The staff was very busy, but friendly and capable. Transplanted NY'ers should come get their memories refreshed & visitors need get a trinket to remember their visit.... read more

Lovely little shop at City Hall. They have a great selection of souvenirs and friendly staff! I was able to find everything I needed from nypd coffee mug, NYC T-shirt's, magnets and baby gifts! If you are visiting New York stop in an take a look they have something for everyone and money goes back to the city! read more

I don't know... I went here today to look for a NY souvenier to give my niece for Christmas, and was a little disappointed. When I have walked by here before after hours, I thought the window display looked great, but when you go inside, the selection is quite small. They had some really cute NYC ornaments, that were outrageously expensive. Their selection of NY t-shirts is limited, but for those, you can get at any little stand on the street. The book selection is extensive and overall, its worth a walk through if you're in the area. read more

Located on the ground floor of the municipal building near the entrance of the Brooklyn Bridge this is a government run NYC gift shop. Not the be all end all of NYC souvenir shops but this is the official NYC shop, the products are authentic and although the selection here is quite small they have some unique gifts and NYC items you'll find it hard finding anywhere else. The prices can get pretty high but it's not cheap plastic dollar store quality you're getting here. read more
