There's a restaurant in the Grand Hotel Tremezzo, it overlooks Lake Como & boy is it gorgeous. Staff is stellar, on point & gracious. Full bar & great cocktails. Came for lunch, what a nice surprise. Ordered the grilled prawns, after checking with the wait staff that the prawns would not come with their heads on, I was assured they were cleaned thoroughly & they were, excellent. Hubby ordered the risotto with asparagus, absolutely divine. As you wait, fresh baked bread, like a puff pastry is brought out to snack on, just heavenly. No dessert - we only leave dessert for dinner, so we have to return for dinner & definitely try one of their desserts! Word to the wise, this place is pricey, yet for me given the level of service & how good the food tasted it was well worth the price. We did not stay at the hotel. Let's start with the upstairs bar. We arrived early to our reservation at Giacomo Al Lago so we decided to get a drink upstairs. It took so long to get our drinks. By the time they came we had to go down to our reservation. Now the restaurant Giacomo Al Lago. We were seated quickly. But our menus took forever. They were serving and attending other tables but after 10 minutes I had to go back to the check in area and ask the lady who seated us , who was suppose to give us the menus. So eventually it came. As you see in my pictures. The other ladies were given a place to set their handbags. One arrived after me. Mine was on the floor. So the beginning service was not good. My son ordered from the kids meal and they brought him an adult meal we had to send back. Now the food was delicious. Well prepared. They brought our seafood selections to look at and approve before they cook it for us. I wished their service matched the cook's efforts. This review is for the restaurant La Terrazza Gualtiero Marchesi not the hotel, we stayed at the sister hotel, Passalacqua. We came here for dinner on Saturday night, our last night in Como. It was fun getting to see the Grand Hotel Tremezzo as we opted to stay in their sister location, Passalacqua. The lobby of the hotel was big and luxurious, a real statement. The Terrazza restaurant out on the terrace had beautiful views of the lake and I loved the primary colors throughout. Service during out meal was exceptional as was the food. In fact, a friend that ordered the spaghetti with caviar and chives said that it was his favorite dish of our entire 10 day vacation. Other standouts were the egg in an egg topped with truffle and the filet. I thought the saffron risotto, which is their iconic dish, was very good but if I had it to do over I think I would have picked something else. Overall a wonderful dining experience. read more

GHT is iconic - from the lake pool to the classic facade, it's one of THE hotels to stay at in Lake Como, but you are certainly paying for it. We were excited to stay here (and booked through a travel agent for additional perks / personalization), however beyond the front desk and concierge, service felt a bit impersonal. We stayed at several luxury properties this trip with GHT being considered the most luxurious, yet felt the service was colder and less personal than those properties (esp as we booked with their preferred travel agency). As an example, we had to repeatedly remind the concierge our name and room number (other properties they were proactively greeting you by name). In addition, the concierge mis-booked our on-property restaurant for the next day (he should have confirmed teh day). The breakfast buffet was incredible (captured in other reviews), but service was quite cold. Another example - we asked for a takeaway box from their bar, and they said they do not give takeaway boxes - this was surprising - in my experience staying at luxury properties - the answer is always yes (they could have sourced from any of their other 5 restaurants). Furthermore, when we asked for a cup of milk for our child, they charged us, which felt ridiculous given how much we were paying for the room (and the fact that other properties, like PH Milan, were gladly giving us free milk for the toddler). That being said, it's hard to deny they have incredible amenities - the beach + restaurant, the pizza + pool, the insane view of the lake (the view from our junior suite balcony was a dream) - my sense is if you're looking for an amenities rich, social hotel in Como - this is it. I'd also add that on our last day, more of the staff knew our names (shoutout to Marco from front desk who was super). However, next time (especially if we are traveling with children), we'll probably try Passalacqua or the Mandarin Oriental. read more

While we didn't stay at the Grand Hotel Tremezzo, we dined at T Pizza with reservations for lunch and are so glad we did. We started drinking cocktails with caviar overlooking the lake and boats passing by. The hotel is an experience in itself and this poolside restaurant took it over the top. Straight out of a magazine, you are enthralled within lush gardens and orange umbrellas. The restaurant offers many pathways you can explore to get different views of the lake, private tennis courts and more. We stayed for hours enjoying cocktails, pasta and pizza. We explored the hotel's gift shop after to commemorate the day. This hotel and restaurant offers 5-star service. Definitely recommend if you want to level up your trip. read more

We visited the Grant Hotel Tremezzo for the lunch at the T bar. I had made a reservation through the concierge, and when checking in for our reservation for lunch, the waiter could not find our reservation on the list. Sometimes the concierge forgets to tell the restaurant that they made a reservation. So make sure you have your reservation confirmation to show when you check in. Besides that small problem we were seated right away and had a fabulous lunch. It was one of our favorite meals the entire trip. Yes, the menu is extremely over priced but their food is actually divine. The pasta was one of the best pastas we had on the entire trip. What an absolutely beautiful hotel and restaurant we will be returning soon. read more

Great hotel, with a focus on service that is exemplary! The rooms are very nice and well appointed, and very comfortable. We ate at L'Escale the first night (fine, great service), enjoyed the restaurant for breakfast (lots of choices, & they'll make anything for you), and the wine tasting (really great choices, & the Som was fun & friendly). Location is great (short water taxi over to Bellagio &/or Varenna). A couple of mentions on costs as brought up by others: I didn't find the extras usurious, but then when i call a hotel i'm staying at for $1,500/night to pick me up at a restaurant a few miles away at midnight, & they do so in their swank BMW 7 series & charge me €50....i think that's totally reasonable. €300 for a private lake tour in their gorgeous boat? Great time, & what I was expecting. The point is: if a few extra bucks for luxuries bothers you, don't stay in an expensive freaking hotel! read more

This is one of those fancy hotels where they nickel and dime you for everything. They charged us 20€ for a car pickup at the ferry station, which was literally a 5 minute walk from the station (though we couldn't tell just how close it was and didn't want to be lugging our bags in the pouring rain). The transfer to the Milan airport in the morning was also not cheap at 220€, though it was a pleasant ride, complete with a to-go breakfast bag. There aren't really any snacks or drinks out for guests - just apothecary jars of candy. We also were disturbed in our room by room service on a day we did not order room service, which was a little annoying. The hotel is also not very centrally located, as in there aren't any grocery stores nearby and food/drink options are pretty much limited to a few restaurants and other hotels. On the upside, our room stay included a three-course meal at their mid-tier restaurant. The food at the restaurant was tasty and had a lovely view of Lake Como (the same view from our room). The breakfast buffet in the morning is plentiful. Room service food was good but the dessert was not as advertised (it was something like, they listed it as a napoleon but it was more like a cookie). The floating pool and private beach is pretty cool, though I was getting a little motion sick sitting in the pool. The tasty pina coladas made up for that. One nice touch to the room are the blackout curtains, but overall, if I could do it over, I would have saved my "fancy hotel" fund for a different place. read more

Long story short: don't even bother. We attempted to eat at the outdoor dining spot overlooking the pool called Giacomo Milano. Almost every single dining table was empty, and they still denied seating us, telling us "there is only room at the bar". The waiter then proceeded to aggressively bump into one of the members of the party, practically body slamming his shoulder. He aggressively then glared at him and asked "what is your problem?" only to start intimidating us, followed by "are you even guests at the hotel". This kind of behavior is horrific, despite being a hotel guest or just as a visitor - it shouldn't affect quality, hospitality, and flat out bare minimum manners. read more

My family and I had a really bad experience in the restaurant. The manager at the restaurant was very rude to us and although the hotel reception made us wait for a seat for some time, the minute we were seated at the restaurant, the manager told us we can only order main dish very rudely. Also, when we asked if we can be seated somewhere else (they positioned us next to the kitchen with no view) the manager instantly said no even though most of the tables near the balcony were empty and available. It was a horrible experience because the manager treated us very poorly. I don't recommend this place. They have a very expensive restaurant and should therefore provide exceptional service but they don't. read more

The one of the most memorable hotels we have ever traveled to. The staff couldn't have been more kind, appreciative and helpful. They were able to arrange a car during a very busy Easter holiday weekend to bring us to the hotel with no problem. The rooms are exquisite. The grounds for breathtaking. You must do the small hike to the top of the hill to see bobo the bear! Breathtaking views. Don't forget to relax at the pool and have some pizza from their pizza oven. Outstanding. Beautiful views. The pool is very relaxing, but they are under staffed. The staff not only runs the pizza bar, but they handle all of the towels and chair setups. You have to track someone down each time you need something. The rooms have great views if you face the lake. We were late for breakfast by a few minutes and they wouldn't accept us. We had to walk down the block to eat. For the room price, you would think they would be more accommodating. We took a private boat tour of the lake and it was amazing. Bring a bottle of wine. They are under staffed, so it's not their fault. They don't have help. The hotel needs to focus on hospitality. I would go somewhere else for the full vacation treatment. There are so many things to discover within the hotel that you could spend days without leaving once. The breakfast buffet is legendary, and the views even better. I also loved having the four storey gym building all to myself. This hotel is what dreams are made of! Lake Como is gorgeous, offering vistas you can't get enough of. This hotel allows you to enjoy these veiws from all aspects of your stay: while dining on the patio, sharing a drink at the hotel bar or while sunning yourself lakeside, having breakfast on the terrace, swimming in the indoor pool, walking the hillside behind the hotel and, of course, relaxing in your room. The views are the most compelling reason to stay here. The service, the opulance of the public spaces, and the courtesy of the staff are what you would expect from a hotel of this calibre. The rooms are quite adequate, but would be a little more comfortable with some smaller furniture. The large chairs don't fit in the room and make it feel more cramped than necessary. The bathrooms are spacious and nicely appointed. And the balcony, although small, serves to widen your vista of the lake's beauty and so is quite welcome. Noise does travel easily through the walls (as some reviewers have noted), but we had gnerally quiet neighbors so it was not a problem. Our experience with the food was mixed. The breakfast buffet was very nicely done with an especially nice assortment of cheeses and specialty teas. The tables are on the terrace facing the lake allowing you to enjoy the beautiful sunrise. Also the pizza we had in the bar at the hillside pool was quite good. On the other hand we tried their Escale Grill & Wine Bar on the evenng of our arrival. Their speciality is fondue and they recommended the fish fondue. The fish (tuna, salmon, swordfish and shrimp) came raw to be dipped into the broth in the fondue pot. When it came to the table it smelled fishy. The broth was rather insipid making the resulting fish a pretty tasteless piece of boiled (not very fresh) seafood. There were about 5 dipping sauces that should have corrected this, but with the possible exception of the bernaise, the sauces didn't help. Although hungry, we ate only about half the portion served. After experiencing this our first evening, we chose to go outside the hotel for our dinners the rest of the week. The good news is that there are some great places to eat in Tremezzo. Also conviently located a 3 minute walk away is the dock for the ferry that takes you to Bellagio and Verenna. Aside from this meal experience, everything else about our stay with satisfactory or better. read more

Words cannot describe how much I truly love this hotel. This is, by far, the best hotel I've ever stayed in. This place exudes class and luxury. From the moment we stepped into the hotel lobby, we knew that our trip was going to be special. We stayed here for four amazing, wonderful and unforgettable nights. I highly recommend a room with a lake view. Some say it's unnecessary because you can get spectacular views of the lake from the common areas of the hotel. But, something is truly special about waking up to the beautiful view of the lake and mountains. We found complimentary prosecco and chocolates in our room. We were also given a complimentary dinner at their fondue restaurant and complimentary breakfast each morning. The breakfast was absolutely amazing. Everything served was fresh and local and they offered a variety of food from freshly baked bread, yogurt, cheeses, cured meats, roasted vegetables, custom made omelets, freshly squeezed juices and hot entrees. There is a complimentary candy bar in the lobby and the selection of candies changes everyday. The spa facility is top notch, offering green tea and fresh fruits. The rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated. The staff is helpful and hospitable. They were able to arrange private transportation to the train station. They also made excellent dining recommendations. The garden area is also gorgeous and there is a small hiking trail which features stellar views. I can't think of one bad thing to say about this hotel. It was truly an amazing experience and I hope that my husband and I will be able to return again someday. read more

Ridícululously overpriced hotel. Old ( not antique) room furnishings with poorly maintained facilities can't fool anyone. Unfortunately made non-refundable reservations - otherwise old have turned around and lost 1st nights deposit without a second thought! Don't be fooled by the pricey rooms up to €780 lakefront view - this is not glamour and history you're paying for, rather old and decrepit. Their restaurant is just as ridiculously overpriced - luckily I looked at the menu outside before sitting down at my reserved table. We spent 2 nights here. Started off with great service from the valet taking care of our car. He called me by name every time he saw me. Good smooth check in. Fantastic room with a lovely view of the gardens. Wonderful breakfast sitting out on the terrace overlooking Lake Como. Had a light lunch at the pizza restaurant by the pool. Again, good service and good pizza. We walked the grounds to the top of the hill to get a breathtaking view of the lake. This hotel is amazing. We stayed here for two nights while in Como and this place just is class. The entry is unreal, the pools, the makeshift beach on the lake and just everything is amazing. The rooms are great as well. We actually changed hotels because we saw how nice it was here. In the morning there is a huge breakfast spread and is complimentary.
