Coming from Atlanta, Ga, the hair capital of the world for women of color, makes it hard for me when I go into a beauty supply in Arizona. Granted Atlanta had a beauty supply place on every corner like a Waffle House. So I can honestly say that I was totally spoiled there, but I chose to move to Arizona and you can't have it all. I literally have to take a day trip to go to a beauty supply because Sally's is all I have in my neighborhood and that ain't much. I went to Grand Mart and they have a huge selection but what I have seen in Arizona beauty supply places is they may have a lot of products but the choices are wack. The sales people aren't knowledgeable about the products and half the time they don't know where they are in the store. I found the same thing here. They have a lot of stuff but it doesn't seem to cater to the clientele. It's so important to have what the people need, if not you either loose the sale or you have people settling for what you have which is disappointing. I went to get hair to do my own passion twists. I asked for help, the first person basically told me that they didn't have what I needed. The second person pointed me in a few different directions none the less I happened to find something that I could use and they twists came out great! I took every bag of the kind of hair I decided to use because I have no idea when I will be back and if they will have what I want. My advice as a long time consumer of beauty supply stores is please educate yourself and your employees on the best products to provide for the consumer. Watch YouTube, go to hair shows or conventions. Visit cities like Atlanta and go into a couple of beauty supply stores and see how they do it. If I wasnt in a hurry to do this style I would have waited for Amazon to deliver the hair that I know would have worked well. I was so damn excited to go to to this place I drove from CHANDLER, because my friend went there so I told myself I'm on this side let me see what's up, and lord did I! How are they going to treat their customers like I'm fucking bothering you when I need your ass to open the glass! My daughter and I went looking for hair supplies and found several of the products we were looking for. The store was extremely neat and abundantly supplied items on the shelves. Very few items were low or sold out. One product I was looking for was not available. The sales clerk offered to take my name and phone number and promised to call when it was available and I was placed on the roster with other customers. Grand Mart, where exactly do I begin. I have been in there only three times. They do have a vast selection of hair care products (majority of these products you can order online and actually support the owner of the company) and a clothing line on the side (some pieces of clothing are overpriced, some are decent for the quality it serves). However, I can attest that this non-black owned beauty supply store is not where any black men or women should spend their money at. Let me begin, the fat security guard gave me funny looks when I was shopping around the store, while he was on duty and talking to what looked like some mexican girl on the side. Isn't he supposed to do his job?? Anyways, I never had a problem with the two women (or the asian man) at the front desk when I rang up my items, but from what I can tell, especially by the negative reviews from Google to here on Yelp, I can tell everyone is telling the truth. There is a lot of mistreatment from Grand Mart's customer service, if not, non-black owned beauty supply stores. From being followed up and down the aisles, accusing you of stealing, dirty looks and gossiping behind your backs, overall racial profiling and many more in the form of subtle aggressions, proves this point overall: DO NOT CONTINUE SHOPPING/SUPPORTING NON-BLACK OWNED BEAUTY SUPPLY STORES. No one, and I mean no one, should ever enter, let alone leave the store feeling blamed for something they did not cause, feel unwanted, or ashamed because of the color of their skin. Time and time again, countless stories coming from black consumers keep resurfacing over and over again about the mistreatment they receive shopping at places like this. It's great that we continue to expose horrible companies and bad business practices, but we have to put a major hault into supporting businesses that are against the black community. Asked for help was basically told to do it ourselves. wouldn't exchange pony after given no help and took it home only to find out it was two tone and wrong color. Went back and asked to see a different pony and was only given help after demanding they open the package. Still wouldn't take off the black net around pony until, again, demanded they do. Then the associate said they didn't have any pony tails to match my daughter's hair without even looking, even after I asked her to look twice. Very disappointed. If I could give them FIVE zeros, I would. My daughter and I went in the store last evening and made a $78+ purchase of hair and product. A few of them were sale items. I did not realize that the product could not be exchanged once purchased. THAT WAS NOT listed on the receipt. When I took the hair out of the bag, I realized it was hair on the weft instead of loose hair. I called back up there not even 24 hours later to see if I could return the hair. There was a young lady who answered the phone and said that she needed to consult with her manager. A man got on the phone and was very RUDE. He asked me to explain what I was trying to do. When I explained it to him, he said if it's a sale item, it can't be exchanged, OKAY? The lady didn't tell me that. She asked other questions. Was I interrupting you or what? There is nothing wrong with the hair. I only wanted to exchange it for loose hair. I understand that you may have other people who bring back bad hair or whatever, but I am not that person. Don't ask me the situation and try to get indignant with me when I tell you what's what. I WON'T be coming back there at ALL.
