Here's an overall view of my experience - the check-in process could have been smoother. It may have been a result of the travel agency I used. Thankfully, after it was sorted, the rest of the process wasn't too bad. I opted for the upgrade which was 10% off room charges and a bigger room to sit through the "presentation" (yes, a timeshare "opportunity"). That breakfast was free, and the whole presentation took about 2 hours. The accommodations were nice, but my wife said the floors were dirty. The staff was VERY friendly, so we had no problems with their service or level of courtesy. However, the laundry service could use improvement in that the clothes were not delivered on time per the form that we filled out. We also had to make many calls to ensure the clothes were finally received. The major complaint I have is with the mishap of an improper "reauthorization" of my credit card. They charged $6100 USD because they apparently did not convert USD to MXN. I had to clear it up at the front desk, but basically had to close out of one tab to open another. I also had to call my bank who said the hotel would have to release the authorization, but it would take another few days to be credited. It was very frustrating. The check out process went smoothly and I was charged correctly for all room charges. My recommendation is to always save your receipts. All-in-all it was a pleasant experience, but they need to up their game a bit to ensure foreign travelers come back for a subsequent visit.

I am not typically one to stay at a resort, but of the ones I have visited The Grand Mayan was top notch. Clean, safe, things to do, friendly staff... all those things you would want for a good vacation. I highly recommend Miguel#4 (be sure to say #4 as there are at least 5 guys named Miguel and this guy is the best )for a tour of Acapulco and a chance to leave the resort. You can reach him by email at acapulcomikehome@live.com.mx He will get right back to you and help line up sight seeing or answer ANY questions you have about his beautiful hometown. Our private tour with him was one of the highlights of the trip. We were nervous about the crime in Acapulco, but actually felt pretty safe walking outside of the resort. Like any city, you just have to steer clear of certain areas. Take advantage of the happy hour 2 for 1! The Italian restaurant is from 1-2pm (we found out by mistake when 4 drinks arrived instead of 2!) and the poolside cafe is from 4-5pm! Si Snack was our favorite place to eat. Great salads and ceviche!

My dad, sister, and I recently visited Grand Mayan Acapulco (2/4/2018 to 2/11/2018). My parents have been longtime owners with Vidanta and since my mom passed away in 2016, my dad and sister and I have been visiting Mexico on the anniversary of her death in order to celebrate her life together. Going to a Mexican Vidanta resort seems to be the perfect way to honor her. The employees at Vidanta are the best and we are constantly amazed at their kindness and devotion, however, at our recent trip, we met some that were so above and beyond wonderful that I had to write. Miguel #4 (numero quatro) was the first contact we had in that he picked us up at the airport and drove us to the resort. He was gracious and energetic and we promptly made arrangements with him to do a day tour of Acapulco. His English is excellent and he is so very knowledgeable about the rich history of his city; it's obvious that he is so proud. In addition to our fantastic day of touring, Miguel #4 assisted us when my father wasn't feeling well and took us back to the airport on our day of departure. When we heard about the recent earthquake, my sister contacted Miguel to make sure that he and his family were okay - thank goodness they were! The second person that we really adored was Maria, the waitress at the pool. Working all day in the hot sun, Maria maintained a smile and was attentive to everyone that she interacted with, not just us! Throughout our days spent lounging by the pool, you could hear people call "Maria!" and she would quickly attend to their wants and needs, just as she did with us! Honestly, while everyone at Vidanta is wonderful in our experience, these two deserved some extra recognition. Thank you! Pamela Gunner

I travel a lot and stay at many fine resorts, but this is the first time I've felt compelled to write a review. This place is divine! Every employee is friendly and helpful. The food is exquisitely hand made, luxuriously arrayed, and so delicious. The beach is impeccably clean, the ocean temperature is perfect. The lazy river is surrounded by lazy tropical wildlife all around, so delightful! Two days ago my son slipped at the pool and needed stitches. That could have been a catastrophe, but they have first rate doctor services right here in the hotel, and he was fixed up right away, and given pain medicine, all for $44 total! Every day here has been an absolute dream. The 3 room suite with a fresh water pool on the balcony overlooking both ocean and city is incredible!! FIVE STARS, AND THANK YOU GRAND MAYAN!!!! read more

The Grand Mayan in Acapulco is a fabulous resort. The grounds are just spectacular. The rooms are beautiful. The food was good too. I wish they would have told us the resort is under construction from hurricane damage and only one restaurant was open. Much of the resort was closed. They should let you know this. It was still a five star experience and will most definitely return with our extended family. The service at this resort is top-notch. Every single staff is so attentive and friendly. Their service can't be beaten. We had a spectacular private tour of the city by Baldo and his driver, Daniel. Baldo was born and raised in Acapulco and was a history teacher for 10 years before becoming a tour guide. He is extremely knowledgeable about the city and its history. We had a blast with them and would recommend them for your next tour, as well. Ask for him at the taxi stand at the resort!! read more
Enjoyed our stay at the Mayan Palace. Staff was friendly and helpful. Not a lot to do there. It is mostly a time share sales place. But the beach was nice with a few hawkers. Beautiful sunsets. Anything you want if willing to pay the price. The room was beautiful and spacious. Walmart close by taxi. Oxxo in walking distance. Don't know that I'd return. Even in November it is very hot and humid. read more

I went there about 3 times between 2010 and 2015 I believe and it was amazing. My wife just went there and she loves it. Is really amzing and they have activities for all ages. Love the small pools that they have in the balconies because they are perfect to distract ghe babies in the morning before heading out and over all the environment is so great. read more
This place was more of a 3.5 star - Some aspects of it were great... Some not so great. The first night we stayed - We had a 2 bedroom suite that was supposed to be adjoined by the kitchen and living room. The suites are separated by a door so that you can go in between the suites. Our door was broken so we were unable to walk back and forth. We complained enough that they gave us another suite with a better view. The rooms themselves were nice. What I wasn't fond of is that they shut off the beach area and the pools pretty early. It's really nice that they have a private beach or whatnot, but why they would not have let us have at least a slice of beach where it's well lit (I assume they didn't want the liability issues) so that people could go out and and enjoy the beach at night is beyond me. Same thing with the pool. Make it a 18+ pool area - Put up a sign that swim at your own risk (or put in one lifeguard) and let people swim later into the night. We took two tours - One with Roberto Alarcon (robertoalrey@yahoo.com.mx) which was amazing. It was basically a private tour with just the 4 of us in our group in an airport type van. The second tour was through the Grand Mayan taxi company (if you are going to do this tour, ask the taxi guys directly, not the hotel - They will tack on another upcharge) - It was snorkeling and other watersports - But it was super ghetto. Not sure if I got the chance to do it again, would I choose to. Anyway, Acapulco's Vidanta location is just okay comparatively to the other locales in Mexico that you can hit - that's my understanding, from my friend who owns the timeshare. That probably says more about Acapulco itself than the actual property, though. read more

There were a few glitches between schedules for the day and what actually was supposed to take place for the guests but other than that it was amazing! Service is incredible, wait staff is friendly, and there's a good balance of English and Spanish speakers so you can always find someone to help figure things out! read more

A very nice resort with incredible service. Except for the sales department. Don't believe them when they are trying to get you to buy into their program. They misrepresent what they are able to provide and don't seem to care about the people across the table from them. Enjoy the resort but stay away from sales! read more
This review will cover a few areas regarding our stay in Acapulco.... Grand Mayan Resorts is a good and safe place to stay. (There is a catch to the friendly service, read for more details)....Hotel staff is friendly and facilities are clean. Pool service is great as well as the restaurant choices. Beware of prices-- water, food, snacks: it is triple the price compared to buying from Walmart and Oxxo. I recommend buying from outside convenience stores and saving time and $$$. DO NOT BOOK THE TOURS FROM THE RESORT. We were warned by another family at the resort about the scam of the resort tours. However, we still booked the "NIGHT Tour" which was described to be a 3 course meal, diver show, drinks and transportation. We were picked up by the driver and dropped off at Bella Vista Restaurant (@ Las Brisas hotel) --- the menu was limited (picture provided) . We asked the restaurant if we were able to see the full menu and offered to pay extra, the restaurant denied our request since the tour package prohibited us to view the full menu. We left the restaurant and asked the driver to take us for some street tacos. After a taco stop, we were taken to La Perla to watch the cliff diving show which was a great time. We returned to the hotel and asked to speak to the manager about the tour disappointment. They had us running around in circles, speaking to different people about our concerns. When the sales staff gave us a time share presentation it was all smiles and courteous service. However, when we declined the sales the service changed. They wanted us to pay $56,000 U.S. Dollars for 2 weeks of vacation-- after declining the offer multiple times the price went down to $1,400 U. S. Dollars-- we still declined the offer since the tour disappointment left us unsure about the scam they are running. If you wish to visit Acapulco, I suggest you plan the tours and activities and hire a private tour or plan it yourself. DO NOT GET SCAMMED by the resort. Feel free to message me for recommendations and contacts of private tour guides. read more

The Grand Mayan Vidanta was, overall, a nice place. It was very beautiful, and the people were friendly. There was a lot of tropical greenery that made it really feel like a vacation. The pool was very relaxing and it was right next to the beach. You could literally overlook the beach while lounging poolside. Overall, my family enjoyed the trip. The spa services were decent. The food, the service, and the language barrier, on the other hand, took away from the overall enjoyment. Going to Acapulco is not like going to Cabo or Cancun. While it is still a tourist attraction, there are not nearly as many English speaking people as in the previously stated cities. Although it did make things a bit more difficult, when in Mexico, it is to be expected that they would speak their native language! Just be prepared to become best friends with google translate for the duration of your stay. In our opinions the room service menu and food was better than many of the restaurants. With regards to excursions, especially for English speaking families, REQUEST BALDO GOMEZ (baldo-work@hotmail.com, 744-160-104). This man made our trip better than we could've ever imagined. He is fluent in English, very polite, and extremely knowledgeable. He didn't just take us to our destinations, he turned the entire experience into a tour, where we learned about Acapulco and it's history. He even, with our permission, showed us the real Acapulco (non-tourist side), and where he lived. What made me really like him was his honesty. We were about to spend a lot of money on a four hour tour we thought we would've enjoyed, but he cautioned against it. He explained how what we had in mind was not what the tour would be, and also telling us that it was unsafe at the time. He recommended another tour which we ended up taking, and I am so glad we did. Thanks to him my kids have had experiences they will never forget, and have learned life lessons they will keep with them forever. read more

Staying in the Grand Mayan was an experience in itself. While the rooms were lovely, the musty smell laced heavily throughout our rooms. When I looked up the Grand Mayan the description said it had laundry facilities. It doesn't. So pack accordingly. There's no dishwasher, but you're expected to wash your own dishes every single day. Otherwise, you will be charged. My suggestion is that you stop at the grocery store before you reach the hotel and buy whatever supplies you're going to need for your stay. And bottled water is a must! If you are going to drink alcoholic beverages, get those at the store as well. Much cheaper then if you go to the store that the hotel has on their property. The swimming pool area is lovely. The lazy pool is very relaxing. You float along on a tube and just enjoy being out in the sun. It's not very big but it will continue until you want to get off. The hotel is currently under construction. But that should not affect your stay. Now onto the fun part of the trip. We had arranged to have a tour guide by the name of Roberto Alarcon pick us up and return us to the airport. He is extremely professional and courteous. He was waiting for us as we walked into the area where people are picked up. He had our name on a digital board so we knew exactly who he was. With his help and suggestion, we stopped at the grocery store and also did our currency exchange. He did not charge us any additional fee for these services. His warmth and courtesy quickly gained my trust. Plus he had water and tequila in the car waiting if you're so inclined. :-) His phone number is 0115217441077. If you prefer to contact him by email which I suggest, his email is Robertoalrey@yahoo.com.mx. This gentleman is one of the warmest and most genuine people I have met in a very long time. After meeting him we decided to add a few tours to our trip. It was much cheaper than what the hotel offers and the quality was top notch. Added to tha Roberto was so flexible with quick stops for pictures or anything else you wanted that I felt like I was a family member and not a "client". Our first trip was a whirlwind of stopping off at a silver shop that offered high-quality items. And the best margarita I ever had in my life. From there he drop me off at the cliff diving restaurant and made certain that I had the best view in the house. He then drop my friend off to visit with her Tia (aunt). After the show was complete and my lunch was done, Roberto was there to pick me up and we checked to see if my friend was ready for her pick up. She still wanted to visit so Roberto took me downtown to a marketplace that he knew would be safe. He sat back while I was able to wander through and shop to my hearts content. From there Roberto took me to see the artwork of Diego Rivera. We then picked up my friend and drove to the Pink Flamingo, home of the late Johnny Weissmuller. Or better know as the original Tarzan. After that stop, we went to a beautiful church that sits high atop a hill. During this entire trip Roberto is sharing and explaining the history and culture behind each area we visited. The next night Roberto picked us up and took us to La Finca for more authentic Mexican food. Yummy! Our final tour with Roberto was to visit the Tehuacalco Ruins. We had another guest with us, by the name of Ryo. And so Roberto took all three of us to a marketplace along the way to the ruins. This was where all the locals meet up and buy their produce and every day items. We had amazing tacos, sopas, quesadillas and, tamales. Roberto knew which people to go to to get these delicacies . So there we were, sitting on upside down buckets and eating the most amazing Mexican food I've ever had. Shout out to Oscar and Maria, their tacos were heavenly. Once we ate our fill, we got to walk the marketplace. Once we Were done with that, we got back in the car and drove To the ruins. Roberto himself did the actual tour. His knowledge of the history of the ruins is amazing. If you are making a decision to visit Acapulco, no matter where you stay, I do highly highly recommend Roberto. He will make you feel safe and comfortable and that is to me very important when I travel in another country. Enjoy your trip. Hope my review helps. :-) Stayed May 2015 read more

A truly awful hotel. Where shall I start? No refrigerator, microwave, or coffee maker in the room. No way I found out to get hot water to make coffee. One tiny ice machine per floor, that ran out at 9:00AM and stayed run-out until late evening. Calling to get more ice took two calls, 30 minutes apart. WiFi is truly horrible: It only allowed TWO active devices per room: We had two smartphones and one computer. Flipping from one to the other was a major chore. I almost forgot: It was 0.3 Mbits/second. Not even worth being called "WiFi". read more

The hotel is stunning, BUT the service is horrible once you catch onto the gimick. NOT FAMILY FRIENDLY. My kids (ages 5, 12 & 14) were so bored at the hotel. First off the area inside of the community is kept up well. They suffer from an infestation of black mold, due to humidity which is understandable. Upon arrival you are greeted and everyone is nice. DO NOT ACCEPT ANYTHING FREE, you will pay for it 1 way or another. They gave us a free buffet in exchange for a tour of the facility, & refundable $20 deposit which was a lie. It was a timeshare presentation. But not like the traditional american timeshare presentation, you have never experienced high pressure sales until you experience this. They would not take NO for an answer until my husband and I got rude and stopped answering them on EVERYTHING. We just sat there staring. After it was over we did not get our $20 back. Apparently they got "lost" and I was told if i pushed the issue it would come out of the employees pay. So I didn't, considering the employees are severely under paid, but the employee felt bad and gave us a bottle of tequila. During our stay there was nothing for our kids to do. It is mostly for old folks. They play bingo at the pool and no kiddy play in the pools is allowed. Ocean is dangerous, as it has whirl pools, lots of electric eels etc... The onsite market is sneaky. I strongly suggest you familiarize yourself with the area beyond Vidanta, everything is priced normally offsite and tippled onsite. In the onsite market they advertise certain prices and sometimes charge extra if you don't pay attention. When I caught it I tried to get them to correct it, it was over a piece of cheese, but they preferred to return my money then honor the advertised price and did not correct the price after this incident. We used the laundry facilities and the machines destroyed our clothes. When we got them out they were completely faded out. They were new for this trip, so we were upset. By the end of the trip we could not wait to leave. Worst trip ever! Upon check out we were charged for a movie rental that was rented when we were not in the room. They did the same to another person who was checking out, so this must be "normal". Since they have your credit card they can basically charge anything they want. It is Mexico! BE CAREFUL! Lastly, we wanted family to come in 1 day while I finished getting ready, inly for an hour. Most resorts are accommodating, this one is not. They wanted $50 per person. They offered to accommodate us in exchange for us buying a timeshare and we said HELL NO. They are so desperate for sales that they even lied to us and said RCi was going out of business and it wasn't true. read more
Okay so only a couple concerns. 1. The rooms are beautiful. The resort is gorgeous but the mattresses are terrible. I've never slept on anything so uncomfortable! It's like you have a Ferrari and put Arco has in it. Or you buy a $4 suit yet wear a Rolex knockoff. 2. On several occasions (been here a week) my food orders were incorrect as in they forgot how to make their own food or they simply omitted several ingredients. I'd call and ask for the forgotten items and 15 mins later they arrive. So now my main course is cold. Also the salads never (ordered 5) arrive with dressing. They don't even ask when the order is placed. Whoever manages food services needs to have a better quality assurance process. 3. Onsite cafe was sweltering. So hot. Sweating while eating is not a preference of mine. And this was at night, inside. 4. If you go to the beach be prepared to be overwhelmed with people hocking stuff. I need a shirt that says no soliciting in Spanish! 5. Lastly, be careful as cab driving a and other folks may take advantage of the dollar to pesos ratio. Know your exchange rate. Otherwise, the staff is friendly, kind and helpful. The resort is beautiful and clean. It is a 5 star resort, which from the aesthetic perspective is accurate but there are some things (MATTRESSES) that MUST change. read more

This hotel is AMAZING and it was still under construction when we went for our honeymoon in August 2015. We had such a wonderful time. The people were so friendly but we especially have to give a shout out to our private tour guide for the week CARLOS ALEGRIA! If you need to get around he speaks perfect English, always on time, a history buff, he was great. If you see him in Acapulco, please tell him Jennifer and Luis from Orlando say hello! read more

Such a disappointment after experiencing the Grand Mayan in Cancun! At reception I was greeted by a huge water bug on my leg! Had I been a screamer or squeamish the whole lobby would have known! The registration gentleman said "he was just saying Hello!" First impression Fail Got to our room and the bed covers were soiled! The bellman called to have them changed while we went to get a bite to eat. The food was unacceptable and pricey, upon arriving back to the room beds were not addressed and we had to wait another hour before we could settle in! One wash clothe and one hand towel for two! Spoke to the Manager and he didn't even introduce himself by name! Didn't even try to accommodate us with anything except to say "Sorry" maybe you can go to the show tonight! What time is the show? 8PM what time is it now 10:00... LOL read more
So good that when I went with friends for my 50th birthday in 2012, I'm going back in 2015. The Grand Mayan Acapulco was my choice as the location at Rivera Maya was booked due to Sophia Vegara from Modern Family's 40th birthday party was at the Riviera Maya location. I went with 4 other adults and we had an absolute BALL in November (right before Thanksgiving). The hospitality of the resort was 6-star and it was soothing and relaxing. The happy hour on the beach is amazing; some of the best tequila sunrises I've ever had. Paulina, one of the masseurs on the beach was AMAZING and saved me from having to go to the Brio Spa but I believe I will be headed to the Brio this time around, to spoil and pamper myself a bit. Don't miss going if you have the opportunity. I know prior reviews were not up to par but we had a ball. Our tour guide was Sebastian - Acapulo4All and he was professional, courteous and has everything (and I do mean EVERYTHING). At our beck and call, he arranged restaurant reservations, a personal shopping trip (they closed the store off for us and served us margaritas while we shopped). An experience that was unforgettable. http://acapulcoforall.com/usa/ SEBASTIAN HERNANDEZ RICARDO. read more

Only positive to this resort is the beautiful grounds, and sparkling swimming pools. If you're not an owner, you get the bad rooms overlooking the street. Don't believe them at check in when they say they will move you to an ocean view room in a few days. They advertise multiple restaurants, but on our first night here, all that was open was a buffet and a snack bar. Food and drinks are overpriced and not very good. I had higher expectations for a Grand Mayan. Will not return. read more

We just returned from a relaxing week at the Grand Mayan Acapulco. The grounds of the resort were immaculate and the rooms themselves were stunning; however, what really made the trip exceptional was Roberto. After reading some of the reviews on TripAdvisor, we decided to book our initial transportation from the airport to the hotel through Roberto. Roberto and his brother Benjamin were waiting for us as we left baggage claim and greeted us as if we were old family friends with a cold beer and his "Mexican Medicine" (i.e. tequila). Right out of the gate it's evident that Robert wants you to relax and enjoy your vacation. He even re-arranged his schedule and went back to the airport to pick up my in-laws who had missed their connection and ended up taking a later flight. Customer Service thy name is Roberto. Roberto works primary with customers who stay at the Grand Mayan and picked us up there several times throughout the week. We went on the City Tour one evening which consisted of a driving tour of Acapulco with stops interspersed throughout the way to include the Chapel of Peace, a locally owned silver shop, an outdoor market and a special stop to see a mural by the famous Diego Riveria. Our tour concluded with the cliff divers show. Roberto insured we had the best seats in the house and took us to a semiprivate outlook where we paid $4 USD per person to watch the show. Everything Roberto does can be tailored to your interests so if there is anything you want to do or see in Acapulco or the surrounding towns, all you have to do is ask. Roberto seems to know everyone and everything in Acapulco. His restaurant recommendations were spot on and were all locally owned establishments ranging from a small outdoor café to a steak and seafood restaurant with a spectacular view of the sunset over the bay. We were oftentimes the only Americans in the restaurants; however, each place had menus in English and/or waiters who spoke English. It was great to be able to try the local cuisine without having to worry about choosing a restaurant. Every time Robert took us to a restaurant he would call ahead to make sure there was not only a table waiting for us but that our table would be the best in the house. Roberto was always very quick to respond via phone and email. On our final night in Acapulco we decided at the last minute that we wanted to go to dinner at a place where we could watch the sunset. We sent Roberto an email at 5pm and by 5:30pm he was picking us up for a 6pm reservation he made at a fantastic spot. Robert definitely made our trip to Acapulco memorable. He has perfected the balance between professionalism and charisma and is one of the best, if not the best, tour guide we've ever had. He offers a variety of services and all are reasonably priced. Transportation to and from the airport was approximately $40 each way for the four of us and $30 round-trip each time he picked us up from the hotel to go to dinner. If you're planning a trip to Acapulco, definitely contact Roberto. He can be reached by phone from the US at 011-521-774-421-9608 or via email at robertoalrey@yahoo.com.mx Now for the actual resort - The Grand Mayan is actually made up of several properties across the resort grounds. The Mayan Palace is set back away from the beach but has a fabulous pool complete with a waterpark, lazy river and swim up bar. The Grand Mayan is beach front and has a smaller pool and snack bar to eat at during the day. They are adding onto the resort so there is quite a bit of construction going on throughout the day. While the noise didn't bother us, the construction resulted in several of the restaurants and the main lobby bar being closed. There are daily activities both at the pool and each of the properties but there does not seem to be a centralized location that lists all activities so you have to keep your eyes open for the advertisements that they change daily in the elevators and on the grounds. Some events that occurred while we were there were a tequila tasting, mixology class and yoga on the beach. The main restaurant had a daily breakfast buffet which was pricey. While the restaurants on the property were very good, if you desire variety, I would recommend calling Roberto. Even accounting for the cost of driving to and from the resort, the meal cost offsite is about the same. It's worth noting that although I have given this review a 5 stars this is based solely on our experience with Roberto. If I were reviewing the Grand Mayan separately it would more likely be 3.5-4 stars. read more

We had a bad experience here. We're Grand Mayan owners but was told that the Grand Mayan was fully booked and therefore got bumped into the Mayan Palace. When we arrived, they told us that the Grand Mayan only had 92% occupancy. They gave us the Mayan Palace wristbands which denied us from accessing the Grand Mayan facilities which as owners, we are entitled to. We were also told that bumping Grand Mayan owners out of the Grand Mayan is normal here in Acapulco if there are private residence club members. That probably also means that if you are a Mayan Palace owner, don't even try to get in here because the Grand Mayan owners get first dibs and might bump you. We also attended a owner's update meeting promising to be 30 min and no sales which turned out to be a 3 hr sales presentation after breakfast. We were also demanded by Gina, the salesperson to pay the tip for the entire meal (including hers) as well. This is a no cash resort which meant we didn't have cash on us and Gina insisted we must pay anyway. So we walked a good 20 minutes back to our room to get the tip, which we were told we also couldn't put on the room tab. Having been to over many sales presentations, no resorts (including the Mayan Palace in Riviera Maya) have asked us to pay cash during a sales presentation. Service was awful. The AC didn't work properly and took 4 men and 2 days to fix. It was freezing in the room (21 degree Celsius at night) max). The room has a capacity for 6-8 people but only gave us one bar of soap. When we called to ask for more, they said they would send someone right away and an hour later, nobody has stopped by. Bottom line, don't choose this Mayan Palace if you have other locations. This resort also has no shuttle from airport. read more

nice hotel but about 7 miles from the real affordable fun. New Acapulco (which is where this hotel is located) is a playground for the rich and famous. If you don't mind a vacation with american prices then this hotel is perfect for you. You will be hounded about upgrading your room and in return you will invest about 4 hours of your time being hard sold on timeshares. Next time I go, I'll be staying in old Acapulco which is where i spent most of my time anyways. read more

After being here for 4 days on the 4th night we realized that the door lock was completely inoperative, so much as we could actually open the door from the outside with dead bolt engaged from the inside. When I called the front desk and asked for some consideration for this as we are literally leaving in 4 hours to catch a flight they offered to move us rooms.... until this moment the trip had been 5 star... leaving here with a 1 star rating because of this ridiculous folly that could have cost us greatly. Someone could have entered our room at any point even when the deadbolt was engaged and they didn't even believe me at the front desk. read more

We love it here. The rooms are very spacious and each room has its own large soaking tub. The staff is friendly and guests are mostly Mexican from Mexico City area. All very nice people, super mellow and decent. Maybe because it's off season? The pools are gorgeous, floating the lazy river so relaxing. The pool right at the beach with a gorgeous view of the ocean. Ocean is rough here so you can wade a little but mostly enjoy looking at it. We've been all over Mexico and I really think people are missing out by skipping Acapulco. It's lovely. Cancun has way better ocean to swim in, calm and clear, but Acapulco is lush, tropical and beautiful. Not gimmicky, been here 2 days and no solicitation for timeshare or selling things. read more

This was the best vacation we've had yet and the Grand Mayan played a huge part in that! The grounds and rooms are incredible. The pool and beach area are truly paradise. What more can I say? The staff was amazing and everything was honestly perfection. We will be returning! :) read more

The property is nice, well maintained except for a moderate amount of construction. The resort was not at its best in October 16'. There are little to no English speaking guests here, so the language barrier can be very difficult at times. Housekeeping, towel and pool employees speak hardly if no English. Tough. Trying to lay on the beach is just getting bombarded by the same vendors you've told no 24 times before. The food is average. Definitely would not come back although I've been to worst places. read more

We spent two weeks in the Grand Mayan Acapulco during early November 2016, Our Grand Mayan driver from the airport turned out to be an absolute jewel. His name is Carlos Alegria. His rates are very reasonable and his english is excellent.. We highly recommend his services to get around the area. He took us on a 6 hour city tour, a two-day excursion to Taxco (which, incidently, is one of the most magnificent cities in Mexico...a must see) and most anywhere else we wanted to go. If you want to request his services in advance, email calegriacorona@gmail.com or call 744-120-3568. As to the Grand Mayan, the beach is awesome! Wide and flat. You can walk out into the surf for hundreds of feet before hitting deep water. The facilities and restaurants at the Grand Mayan are comparable to other Vidanta locations. The resort is located south of the main city in an area called Diamante. It is much more quiet and secure than the main city of Acapulco. It is also near the airport. Our only disappoints with the resort were that the air conditioning did not work properly. We could not get the temperature below 25C (which is too warm for us seniors in a very humid climate).and the fact that, although we are Grand Luxxe owners, we were not treated as such by the staff (i.e. not given a suite on the Grand Luxxe floors nor even a beach-view suite on any of the other floors). read more

Traveling with a toddler can be really hard especially if places are not accommodating. Absolutely gorgeous views with amazing hospitality. Private beach, never ending river awesome pool area with multiple activities every day. Full access to entire property including Mayan palace with round the clock shuttle service. But if you are staying at Mayan palace I don't think it's the other way around so I don't think they have access to grand Mayan. Food is great on the resort Samba and Il Forno Di Gio and BluFin restaurants were all delicious. Room service was great and friendly through out the day staff is cleaning we stepped out for brunch came back room clean everything replenished. We stepped out again for the afternoon and when we came back they made the little beds ready for the children to sleep even though it was just my husband and toddler who sleeps with us but it was a nice touch. Hotel offers can drivers which is hotel certified I think but we hired him for the day for a private tour of Acapulco and it was awesome! Been on many family vacations and this is the best so far highly family friendly and highly recommended! read more

What a lovely hotel chain. We stayed at the nearby Mayan Palace, which is under a little "face lift" construction. The people working there were extremely courteous, friendly and so helpful. Must warn you that you that there is no Dishwasher or laundry facility in the rooms or nearby, so must wash your own dishes and pack accordingly (but watch you luggage weight-no more than 22 pounds TOTAL.) The best part of staying at the Mayan Palace is that you get to use nearly all of the Grand Mayan areas and restaurants (charged to your room.) The beach is located here, so plan to grab their "free" shuttle (but bring pesos for driver's necessary tip.) Your towel card from Palace is good for the pool there too, but NOT the beach! Bring your own beach towel. We tried to find a place to buy one cheap - no so luck - prices very high! The friend we were traveling with had done quite a bit of research regarding transportation to/from airport as well as around the city. She arranged everything including a couple tours with a tour guide by the name of Ricardo Alvares Avila, who picked us up and returned us to the airport. He is so very professional and courteous and (ladies -charming.) With his help and suggestion, we stopped at WalMart and a few times during our stay, he stopped at ATMs so we could get more currency exchanged. The $400 our bank let us have in pesos lasted 2 days! Plus he had water in the car waiting if you're so inclined. :-) Ricardo's cell phone number is: 74 41 13 69 79. If you prefer to contact him by email, which I suggest, his email is Alvarez1178@hotmail.com. He was a true gentleman and a very warm person. His car is large, clean and fairly new. There were five in our group and we were always comfortable with our luggage and shopping bags. Buenas vacaciones. read more

The GRAND Mayan lives up to its name, with a GRAND Entrance, drum sounds of ancient music, beautiful architecture, spacious rooms, and gorgeous lush foliage. This wonderful resort is situated right on the beach. I had the opportunity to visit Acapulco with two friends for a week. We had a double room on the sixth floor with a full frontal view of the ocean/beach as well as the palm trees, lazy river, pool and tiki huts. Three double sliding doors opened up to a grand balcony all across the adjoining rooms and included our very own dipping pool. The double room, included two bedrooms with King size beds and pullout sofas, each with its own bathroom and a shower. These bedrooms were adjoined to a studio room with a kitchenette, two pull out sofas with a separate bathroom sink area. We enjoyed all of the amenities of the resort, including the FIRST CLASS spa, with lockers, hot whirl pool, and cooling off pool, steam sauna, hot sauna and a Swedish shower. It also has changing areas and showers as well as a large equipped gym and offers many spa treatments. We ate at two of the restaurants. The Si Snack open-air restaurant that overlooked the ocean. We all especially liked the delicious fish tacos of many varieties, Baja and Acapulco style among them and the Mojitos. The staff was especially friendly and attentive. We also ate at the Italian Restaurant at the Sea Garden Hotel. The hotel provides a shuttle to the hotel. You can get everything from a pizza to a full- blown Italian dinner. They also offer room service. The hotel provides a daily schedule of activities at the the JOY CLUB by the pool which were included free in our package. Activities range from cooking classes to water aerobics and salsa dancing. A wide variety for all ages with a great enthusiastic staff. Several nights in the GRAND Bar, a live band plays with Salsa Dancers and Silk Acrobats. YOU WILL LOVE THIS RESORT! Plenty to do! However, the ABSOLUTE BEST PART of what made our trip so memorable is the personal service we received from Miguel Angel zequeida...known as MIGUEL #4. Miguel #4 became a personal guide throughout the entire trip, picking us up from the airport upon our arrival and taking us to the airport at our departure. Miguel #4 took us on several excursions around the city from the Ancient Ruins, the Chapel of Peace, Silver Mine/Jewelry Tour, Scuba trip, Acapulco cliff diver shows, a tour of old downtown giving us historic information about how the city was founded, its many periods of development and many famous movie stars who live/lived there. He took us to the best local restaurants and markets and gave us the inside scoop on the customs of negotiating and tipping. I can't say enough about MIGUEL#4 and his service! He is prompt. He is reliable. He is knowledgeable. He is flexible! He is trustworthy! He is ALL ABOUT MAKING YOUR TRIP MEMORABLE!!! This is an example of the ABOVE AND BEYOND SERVICE that MIGUEL #4 provided for us! Our flight from Acapulco to Mexico was CANCELLED due to fog. It was the last flight of the day to Mexico City and the flights the next day were full! So we asked MIGUEL #4 if he could drive us to Mexico City in time to catch our flight. No problem, MIGUEL #4 to the rescue. MIGUEL #4 along with two experienced drivers one who knew how to drive the windy roads through the Sierras to Mexico City and another who knew how to navigate the traffic through the Mexico City airport, got us to our flight onetime!!! MIGUEL#4 KNOWS CUSTOMER SERVICE!! If you are going to Acapulco, make the most of your trip, make it enjoyable and worry-free with MIGUEL #4. We just stayed in the Mayan Palace, which was the hotel behind the Grand Mayan, where the rooms were spacious, the housekeeping staff was immaculate and the garden views were spectacular. It was quiet and pristine. The staff was extremely helpful, friendly and professional, among the best staff I've ever experienced at a resort. The food in the restaurants was bountiful and reasonably priced. I will warn you, the wifi is awful, so don't expect to get any real connection while you're there. The beach is directly in front of the Grand Mayan and a quick, 2 mind. shuttle ride away from the Mayan palace and it is wonderful. The straw huts are really a perk for being on the beach all day and you can get food/drink service on the beach. We had a spectacular time and I would definitely visit again. With all the press about Acapulco, we were a bit apprehensive to go outside the gates of the resort on our own, so we took a tour with a taxi driver that was one of the drivers working within the gated resort. His name is "Adam Bello of City Tours Taxco". Telephone 744217-69-21. This driver was the icing on the cake for our vacation! He took us to a local restaurant, and when I say "took us", he called ahead to make reservations and then walked us inside to introduce us to the owner and then waited for us. We asked him for a tour after dinner and so he drove us around Acapulco explaining the history and local sites. Even getting out on several occasions and walking with us. We ended the evening with the cliff divers, which we wanted to see. Adam is professional, friendly and gives you the picture of Acapulco that you are looking for. He also looks out for the best deals for you. Connect with him and you will experience the local Acapulco in all of it's beauty, without any worries about safety. read more

The Mayan Resort was wonderful with the most beautiful view, but Carlos Alegria, a Tour Guide and Taxi Driver for the Mayan, made our trip amazing! Carlos, also known as Mr. Happiness, speaks perfect English, and will treat you to the best of everything Acapulco has to offer. He took us on a wonderful city tour of all the best sites, deep sea fishing, great places to shop and tremendous places to dine each night. We have visited many cities in Mexico, but never had the kind of fantastic service that Carlos Algeria offers! As soon as you arrive at the Mayan in Acapulco, ask for Mr Happiness as your Driver ad Guide, and you'll have an amazing vacation! read more

What a horrible bait and switch!!! My wife (a UCLA attorney) did extensive research on a property that would be enjoyable for our 3 young girls, ourselves, and her 75 year old mother we flew in for her birthday. Here is what we were told we would have: two ocean front room with large balconies, jacuzzi and plunge pool, an ocean front pool with lazy river, lake for paddle boats and canoe, active schedule kids club on site for the girls, water slides and aqua park and all amenities close and on site so grandma doesn't need to walk blocks and shuttle everywhere. This is what was on the website and what we paid for. Here is reality we learned upon arrival: Loud construction (I mean constant jackhammers and backhoes and trucks everywhere). No aquatic park it is a dirt pit. No lazy river it is closed. No ocean front pool as it is being remodeled (oh but the new one at the end with no shade, and surrounded by jackhammers but no bar due to remodeling is open). No kids club. No lagoon with paddle boats or kayaks because it is just dirt and dust. But no problem they said - you can take a shuttle to our golf resort everyday to stand in line 20 minutes each day for an inferior (no ocean or anything view) which would be great for grandma when needing to rest. After 2.5 hours they finally moved us out of the construction zone. Of course, they would only move us after 2 hours and then agreeing to take their bloody timeshare (oh correction, owner residence) tour. So we are on a ground floor with view of a bush in a cheaper resort with no ocean, no balcony, no plunge pool or jacuzzi, no lagoon, kayaks, or luxury and this morning were subjected to 3 hours (my fault for letting them go on) for them to go from 14 9k to 40k to 29k to 10k to 5k to 2k for me to have the privilege of paying for the very construction that is trashing our trip. I know resorts have to rebuild and remodel - just give discounts and tell the truth!!! I will never trust a Mayan property anywhere after our experience. It was just the opposite of Grand. If you go anywhere near this before August 2015 you have been warned. read more

Resort is located in Diamante district (diamond district) which is a secluded/ serene location about ~30mins from the main Acapulco city. The area felt very safe being surrounded by high-end condos and other hotels. Resort activities were great especially for the kids who enjoyed the beach/pool. The nearby pool has water park/slides and a hotel shuttle runs every ~10mins which makes it very convenient. Other Kid friendly activities include water polo and handicraft painting. At least 90% of the tourists seemed local but most of the staff speak english so it was not an issue at all. The golf course was cheap and expect a relaxing time there with plenty of attention from staff. Our tour guide was great - Roberto Alarcón. He welcomed us at the airport with a nice cold beer and warm hug. Until the very last day of our family vacation we could rely on him to navigate around our Acapulco city activities. Acapulco has a stunning bay rivaling the best in the world and at all times we felt safe. Roberto's local expertise along with excellent english skills helped us significantly. On the plus side he also happens to be great in taking pictures which gave us great family photo memories of Acapulco :) Contact him at robertoalrey@yahoo.com.mx and you will not be disappointed. For the resort one thing to note is that construction is expected through March 2015 so do not recommend an ocean-side room until then. Even though we were on the ocean-side on a high floor the noise was persistent from 9a-9p. Wifi is not free (~$60 for the week or paid daily). read more

Absolutely BREATHTAKING, AMAZING resort! I visited in March 2015 (the week before Holy week in that area which is, apparently, insanely busy). I was given a complimentary upgrade to a massive suite that had its own private infinity pool on the large, spacious porch. The restaurants at this resort are so incredibly delicious; there are numerous, numerous pools of all different types with gorgeous designs/fountains/a swim-up bar, etc.. AND THE GREATEST FEATURE?? The awesome lazy river!!!!!!!! The rooms are massive and spacious, and the various resort areas are gorgeous; the architecture and attention to detail of the entire resort are beautiful. And to top it all off, the resort staff-- ALL of them-- are incredibly kind, accommodating, and lovely people to encounter. I give the Grand Mayan a 5-star rating of the resort itself; the only reason for the overall 4-star rating is due to the nature of the beach. It is FULL of people trying to sell you something-- donkey ride, ATV ride, massage from a random person, jewelry, sarongs, etc-- CONSTANTLY. I realize that these are people who are simply trying to make a living off of the tourists, and I purchased a few things just to help people out, but it really does get annoying/tiresome having people come up to you 10x an hour to bug you about giving them money for something. read more

We purchased a timeshare at the Grand Mayan San Jose Del Cabo . Upon receiving our papers we noticed there were many fees involved that we were not made aware of. The sales representative misrepresented what the contract/membership entailed. we had been trying to get out of the timeshare and they were saying its too late to cancel it. Seeking legal means of timeshare contract cancellation. we found a company called Mexican Timeshare Solutions that seemed reliable, Very skeptical about our latest experience. we decided to contact them. The process was very simple; I provided them with everything they needed and cooperated with them to help them do their job. They were always quick to answer my e-mails and phone calls in a very friendly, professional manner. Fortunately we got and we are free of maintenances fees. read more
