I can only comment on the clinic. Very organized. Very fair pricing. I've taken numerous rescue pups and have had very good luck with them. They are short staffed/volunteers. They are doing their best. They just reopened their clinic with online appointments so I tried it out and taking my new pup today for shots. I've never been inside. VERY unorganized. They have you stop in 2 different places, then you move to a trailer, then they come back and take your dog in. Then they send you back to a space and wait for someone to come out to take payment. I paid by credit card, so she had to go back and forth again. Too many different checkpoints- waste of time. The whole process took an hour and 15 minutes. And that was with an appointment. They don't give you a prescription for heartworm. They just give you an invoice and that shows heart-worm test as negative. I adopted a dog from GSHS in March of last year. Later that year I fell and broke my right ankle and a metatarsal head. I tried for at least 2 months to take care of my dog. I had trained her a lot and was glad to have her. But there came a time when I could not take care of her the way she needed. I couldn't walk her or let her out to do her business because I couldn't walk. My neighbor was walking her for a while. I was in a boot for 10 days then my doctor put me in a cast for 4 weeks. After 5 weeks I had to wear the boot again. All the while I could not walk. While in the boot I knew I had to make other plans. Since I am alone I knew that I would have to take her back because I was not able to take care of her. After the employee took her she told me that I WOULD NOT be able to adopt another dog, their policy is if a dog is returned, you cannot adopt from them again. I told them that I had no way of taking care of her so I thought this was the best thing for her. Obviously not. This was not a return just because I didn't want the dog. I was not physically able to care for her. That didn't make any sense to me. I wanted the dog, but was handicapped too long. It took me over 9 months before I could walk without pain. So now I have to try again to find a dog that fits my lifestyle and my capabilities. Not an easy task but I really hope I find one soon. read more

This cat had diabetes for over a decade, and they diligently administered insulin and provided the highest level of care. During the adoption process, they disclosed that they had previously declawed their cats, which they only did due to a serious medical condition. The husband has a heart condition that requires him to take blood thinners, making even minor scratches a potential medical emergency. Despite this legitimate medical concern, Ms. Boggs reacted with hostility. She berated and insulted this couple, treating them with extreme disrespect. She even went as far as to state that she would no longer work with their veterinary clinic--a statement that not only seems inappropriate but also unprofessional, considering the veterinary clinic only performs declawing in special cases where a medical necessity is present. While I fully understand and respect the Grand Strand Humane Society's stance on declawing, there is no justification for treating potential adopters in such a degrading and dismissive manner, particularly an elderly couple who were seeking to provide a loving home to an animal in need. A humane society should foster education and compassion, not judgment and hostility. If Ms. Boggs' conduct is reflective of the organization's values, then it raises serious concerns about how the Grand Strand Humane Society treats its community members no matter how sanctimonious she may feel about her actions. However, if her behavior was an isolated incident, then I trust appropriate corrective measures, such as retraining on professional conduct and customer service, will be taken to ensure this doesn't happen to another customer. I am in no way suggesting or advocating for all owners to declaw their cats--let me make that clear. I just feel this could have been handled in a more professional manner. You can say no without a savior complex. I reached out to the Grand Strand Humane Society directly and they have ignored my correspondence. If you wish to adopt, and not be treated like trash, use another location because this one lacks basic decency. read more

The facility smells horribly. Only one of the workers there, Karen was nice. I applied to adopt Lil' Bit on Wednesday, went home because they were closing. Called on Thursday and Friday because I hadn't heard from them. No answer; left a message. I decided to go GET the dog on Saturday because they never called me back. They said "Oh, someone adopted him yesterday.!" with no acknowledgment that I was upset and tearing up because of that news. I asked to see the other small dog, Cuddles. I actually held her for about an hour, with my jacket covering her because it'd been cold outside, and she hid her face inside it if she became overwhelmed with the crowds and noise in the front room. Finally, the pet counselor came to talk to me. She said someone else had already applied for Cuddles, but were deciding because of a physical problem with the dog. I had to wait until they decided?! The Shelter Employees were flippant and defensive when interacting with me. So.... Lil' Bit was given away from under me because "Everybody wanted him", but I had to wait because these adoptees were not even sure they wanted Cuddles [who was obviously very comfortable with me.] I gave 2 stars instead of 1 because Karen and the volunteers were nice. The reviews made me expect the worst adopting my dog from here but if anything it was amazing! Brittney helped me adopt my dog in October of 2022 and she was super informative and friendly. The meet with my dog went smoothly and adopting her went fast. We met my dog outside and walked her to see if she was a fit for us. I also use their clinic since it's conveniently already has her records. The clinic is affordable and the Vets are nice! Every time I have been they have been patient and kind to my dog and I! It had been about 4 months since I had lost my lovable 18 year old cat. I felt the choice of two bonded cats, were a good fit for me. This way they had each other. I go to pick him up, after waiting and waiting they bring him to me and then tell me that surgery went very well... The outdoor kennels have broken/upside down furniture and garbage strewn around. management and leaders of this organization need to understand that just cleaning up and taking pride in your space makes a difference. I went to the Tanger Mall facility. Smelled the stench before I walked through the door. There were a lot of cats all in cages. They had feral cats, sick cats, FIV cats, mixed with hopefully healthy cats. Nonetheless, I filled out the application and selected my kitten. There was no name or story on the cage. I didn't know how old he was, if he was neutered, or had his shots. He was in a cage with two other kittens that may have been litter mates. One had a goopy eye. There were at least six people there cleaning cages. There was no area for cats to play or get exercise. Of all the people there, no one even attempted to help me with any specifics about the kitten. Everyone just didn't know and the ONE person that did wasn't there. Consequently, I couldn't take the kitten home until that person approved me. I called the next day and they needed my vets name because they wanted to call them. Easy enough! Another day the little kitten has to stay in that place. I called them several days in a row. Each time I would leave a message either by way of recording, or a person. Finally seven days later I went back up there with carrier in hand, and they literally wouldn't let me through the door. Once again the ONE person was not there, so they were closed but they would leave a message on her desk. That was the final straw. I called All4Paws that day and adopted two very healthy happy kittens that had complete stories, including, names, were already neutered, tested for FIV, and had their shots The adoption process was unbelievably easy. The kittens came home that same day. To date the Humane Society has still not returned my call. It's been thirteen days. I fear they have forgotten their ultimate goal, which is to find good homes for the cats. My regret is that the kitten I fell in love with is still there in that disgusting and extremely unorganized whole in the wall. read more

Brought my 3 year old Shih Tzu in for routine neutering. My poor baby died within 24 hours. We are heartbroken and devastated.

I went in to adopt and found a dog with a skin condition. When I asked what the condition was no one knew and stated that she would have to be taken to a vet who could do skin scrapings. Ok so we still were interested in her and I filled out the application and was informed that unless I was going to keep her in my home 24/7 I could not have her and if I let her out in my fully fenced yard I had to be outside with her. Now this wasn't because of her skin condition this is their policy about all their animals even though their website states that you can have a dog in a fenced yard. They don't treat the animals with the care that they say and the place is awful smelling. The director and the font desk manager are rude and they would rather the animals stay in their cages than let loving people adopt. read more

I got this sweet baby but with no credit to this establishment. I was treated with zero respect and was told that I was not capable of having a cat, and that they refused to let me adopt. It makes me so sad to think that others have had this experience when they just want to take an animal out of those cages and home with them. The adoption process was absolutely ridiculous and they discriminated against us solely because my boyfriend and I looked like college kids. This place smelled terrible and a lot of the cats were sick and on meds. They told me I wasn't trained enough to be a volunteer and walk a dog and told my boyfriend he could not walk a dog unless he was interested in adopting one. They would never answer the phone or call us back when they assured us they would. They were disrespectful every time we came in to even look at the cats or dogs. I know they probably don't get paid enough and they seem to hate their jobs but it's not an excuse. I went to Horry County animal shelter and it was amazing, worth the drive. I got this little sweetheart and they let me adopt him with open arms and did not have all of their cats in cages where they are stressed 24 hours a day. Do not go here (grand strand) unless want to be extremely upset afterwards. I would give them zero stars but it won't allow me to. I wish there was a way they could be reported to the BBB. Horry County also had a lot of variety of dogs when grand strand only had pit bulls and pit mix. Whenever we asked about walking dogs or about helping out they scrutinized us. This place does not answer phones, even during working hours. We have requested dog records sent to the dog boarders several times to no avail. And when I actually checked the prices for some tests at my vet it was only about $5 difference. Totally not worth the extra long wait you have there, not worth driving the extra distance or gas $. Recently, I learned via several reliable sources that they approve of the tourist trap known as the TIGER experience in the Myrtle Beach area. I am shocked and upset that they would be in favor of such a place. Baby tigers are breed for the soul purpose of raising money. I had to bring my (very timid) dog here on short notice to receive his annual shots. The staff and facility was well-organized and helpful, especially considering the current pandemic and the regulations they have implemented (which I LOVE by the way). The wait time was a bit long, but I understand that there are only so may volunteers/workers for the amount of people seeking services. With that being said, once I was registered they completed everything in MINUTES and were so wonderful with my dog. This place was disgusting, smelly, dirty, and there was poop everywhere. The front desk lady was extremely unprofessional, rude, and had no idea what she was talking about. She told us that if we found a dog we were interested in that we could let them know and they would allow us to walk it. When we did this we were then told that we could not take him out, and we were questioned as to why we were even there. Then we asked about a different dog and they said that we couldn't walk her either because we weren't volunteers, and were incapable of handling a dog. read more

The only reason this place doesn't receive one star is because of the friendly volunteers. I spent over an hour educating myself about FIV in the shelter to adopt a cat that had been at the location for nearly a year I had truly fallen for only to be turned down because my mother has owned a declawed cat in the past. The other cat I was looking at had a severe allergic reaction to the food they had fed it when by "accident" when the cat had a known allergy. Staff as a whole were under-trained and it took fifteen minutes to even flag someone down to fill out paperwork to begin. I hate to say it would be a shame for this shelter to shut down, but these animals would be better served at another location where staff are more knowledgeable and not so quick to judge a person trying to give a better life to an abandoned, sick animal because of the actions of another family member while they were a child. Yesterday, 3/22/2021 a miracle occurred. I had taken home a 14 year old, tiny Chihuahua for Fospice from the GSHS. She had a HUGE tumor hanging off/connected to her lady bits area, mammary tumors and had never been spayed. I asked the Vet, Dr. Tiffany and the Clinic Manager, Lisa to conduct surgery on her, knowing well and agreeing with them that for a dog this age in such horrid shape, that she could very well pass during surgery. She was soo uncomfortable dragging this huge tumor around her back end. It was a tough decision. The miracle? The tumor, mammary glands and spaying were all completed! Lisa had to breathe for her a couple of times as it seems she was getting tired, but she made it. They had her recuperate on a heating pad and covered in a blanket to keep her temperature up. I took her home at 4:00 same day, she drank bits of water throughout the night and today is sitting up in her bed. This is truly a miracle in addition to the skill of Dr. Tiffany and the compassion and skill of Lisa, my Fospice dog will have a longer life unencumbered by her above issues. I had entrusted the spaying of my Irish Wolfhound and Great Dane to this team - with total no issues recuperation.
