Being new to the area finding a vet for my dog was on my list of things to do. My dog Luna sped that up , my dog had knee surgery 5+ years ago and out of the blue her back legs gave out. I called around and could only get emergency vet hospital to try and fit her in ( quick yelp check of those told me to steer clear) I remembered speaking with some of the staff at my place of business. I called them explained my situation and they were great. Brought her in and the vet was great , he explained what had happened and gave me something to help her rest and recover. She didn't require expensive X-rays, testing they didn't even charge me for an emergency visit. Those I can only imagine is what the emergency hospital would have charged me. She just hyperextended her knee and needed rest. Long story short dog is as good as ever, i didn't need to remortgage my house for treatment and I found myself a vet for Luna. read more

Dr Bruce Crull and Dr Smith are the only great things about this practice. I have been a client of MIVH for over 12 years. Many of the Vet Techs and the Office Manager are snarky as another reviewer said and officious. The Pet portal has been removed so you can no longer see information about your pet's visits, vaccination records etc. And now there is a new automated tool being used to take calls and there is NO VOICEMAIL for the Drs. You have to leave messages and calls are returned by someone who "takes your message" for the Dr but has no knowledge about you or your animal. The person I spoke to today took it upon herself to try and give me medical advice about my animal and continually said "I am just trying to help you" and talked over me. Listening is a skill people taking messages must have. They should not be translating my messages to the Dr using their own personal opinions. My cats are older and it is imperative to be able to leave the correct issues and status to the Dr. If it wasn't for Drs Crull and Smith I would find another vet! These new policies and functions are going to cause problems and deterioration of care. There was another occasion 2 years ago when I brought my cat in for a SCHEDULED surgery. The surgery was not adequately explained prior to the surgery date and I was extremely nervous and upset. I believe it was the office manager who came out to talk to me and THREATENED NOT TO DO THE SURGERY on my cat if I didn't calm down...I wasn't even in the building I had left to sit outside with my cat in my car!!!! This place is a complete joke. My very first visit, I waited over an hour, only to be met with a snarky comment from an employee: "Well, you got here so early." I was literally told to arrive 15 minutes early for paperwork -- which took all of three minutes. So apparently following their instructions is now something to mock. My second visit with my other dog seemed fine at first, but then Dr. Brett Weathers said they needed records from my previous vet before deciding anything. She prescribed an antibiotic that did absolutely nothing, and weeks later my dog was still not better. When I called for a follow-up, things somehow got even worse. The person I spoke with couldn't find my profile because they had my dogs listed under an entirely different customer. Seriously? How does that even happen? And instead of the vet having the decency to call me back, an employee called and told me they still hadn't received the records -- information nobody bothered to update me on. I ended up getting the records myself and emailed them over. Since then, I've emailed twice asking what the next steps are, and have received zero response. Not even a basic acknowledgment. This "vet" clearly doesn't care, doesn't communicate, and can't even keep their own records organized. I will never be going back, and I'd strongly warn anyone who actually cares about their pets to go literally anywhere else. read more

Took dog for shots and grooming (spa day), dog was bathed but they did not clip her toe nails. One of the main reason that I took her. They said they were to short to cut. Everyone that comes to my house, says, she needs her nails clipped. Very disappointed. Then they charged me $50 for a worm test. That was a waste. Cause if she had or did not have worms, she needs to take a worm pill ($18), so why the test, just give her the pill. So $239 later, she still has long nails and now I will have to take her somewhere else. Only compliment, a few of the staff were nice. But I guess that was cause I was paying $239. Lol read more

I nearly never leave reviews but I had such a good experience. My cat hates the vet, labeled a caution and the last vet basically we like don't bring him back unless he's for real sick. We just moved cross country from northern CA and road tripped it over 10 days. Needless to say super stressful time for a cat. I dunno how they did it but he was just magically an angel with them. Even let the take his blood without being sedated or anything!! And when we got home he didn't act like he hated me. I think maybe previous sedation made him scared cause he was disoriented but I thought he was just mad about being at a vet. They definitely know what they're doing with cats and I'm super grateful. Been coming here for years. They treat my two 16 year old cats like royalty, and I adopted my new kitten from here as well.

The staff is wonderful. We have two dogs. One is a rescue, and one is re-homed. At a recent visit one dog got out of her collar. The staff of MIVC immediately went into alert mode. They kept the doors from being opened. One got an additional lead and very calmly approached the dog and was able to put the lead on her. The staff worked like a well oiled machine. Truly amazing. The doctors are thorough and knowledgeable. Very happy with this practice. read more

When we moved from MB to Murrells 20 months ago, they came highly recommended by everyone we know. We loved them at first but little by little, things got worse. The last straw was today when I went in to pick up my dog's heart medication, which is a controlled substance, and was informed that they would be charging us $20 to write the script in addition to the $50 we pay CVS for the medication itself. We also paid $250 in advance for a fecal test for our cat and we were up front about being out of the country for three months and would administer the test when we returned. Due to my illness, we returned home six weeks early and completed the test, only to be told they couldn't complete it without us paying for it all over again. We have two dogs, one old, and an old cat that we take in regularly for treatments. In 18 months, we've spent several thousand dollars on our beloved pets but finally decided to divorce MIVH, citing irreconcilable differences. We loved the doctors and staff but the owner's rules are too onerous and expensive for us moving forward. read more

I use to go to a different vet and they always charged me sooo much for every little thing, but not this place, it is AWESOME! I can just show up between 0900-1100 or 1300-1500 and they'll give my fur babies whatever vaccines they need and I don't get charged all the extra fees like my other vet did. The staff is so loving and attentive. I tell people about them all the time. Seriously, if you're looking for a vet, give this place a shot. I think you'll be pleased. read more

Wow, what an awesome experience! I had read so many negative comments and I was worried, but my worries were alleviated when I walked in the front door and was welcomed by many truly nice employees. My puppy was given a scarf with a scent that mimics the mother's smell; this is to calm him down. All dogs get that. It seemed that every employee came over to see my puppy, and I could tell by the way the other pups waiting were treated that they truly love dogs and cats. After a reasonable wait, I was seen by Dr. Chip Jackson. I have never met a vet before that was not only so kind, spent an enormous amount of time explaining things to me, and really cared about my dog. Anyone looking for outstanding service and a group that truly cares about your fur babies, look no further. The front of the house staff, the techs, doctors and admin are all just amazing and go above and beyond for their 4-legged clients and their human parents. I could write a three-page review on how wonderful they are but it's not necessary. I have raised, and lost, 4 of my dogs one by one in a span of over 18 months that were 12, 11 and 10 years old and, after that pain subsided, I rescued #5 and she loves all of the humans that work there. When I called to make her first appointment, the young lady that answered the phone looked up my account, paused for a moment and then said "We are so happy that you got a new baby Miss Wendy!" They pay attention. They truly care. My daughter also takes her two dogs there and, unfortunately also had lost her first fur-baby years ago to cancer. Now, she has two more that have also had health scares. Regardless of how busy they were, they will always drop everything for an emergency, and we are so grateful for them. So, of my 10+ years of experience with this group, I can honestly say it is THE best care on the beach for your 4-legged family members!!! read more

My beloved dog Buster is 12 years old and loves the beach. I took him to Pawleys because it always lifts his spirits. When we got to the beach he could not get up. Two wonderful ladies helped me pick him up and put him in my car. They insisted that I take him to Murrells Inlet Veterinary Hospital. They said it is a bit further but they will squeeze him in. They saved his life. They let me stay in the back with him. 2 other dogs had their lives saved that night too thanks to the incredible care that this hospital gave to the animals and their distressed parents. I can't give it 5 stars because it deserves a million stars. I wish all veterinary hospitals were like this practice. We are snowbirds and did not have a veterinarian here. Our 14 years old Yorkers had a stroke and several seizures, could not walk or stand. The time had come...when we arrived we called and told them the situation. Tech came to the car and got all the info they needed, prepared a room for us and took us thru the lobby directly to the room. Water, tissues, a soft blanket on the table and a soothing video. The Vet walked us thru procedure, so compassionate , with the dog and us.Lily crossed the rainbow bridge in my arms. For not having been there before, Lily and us were treated with kindness and ease. Yes, there was the business, they offered for us to pay next week when we pick up her ashes, we preferred to pay today. The office staff came in the room to conduct business. Afterwards, we were offered to stay with her as long as we wanted. We were so thankful for this Vet service. Highly recommend. read more

We have been cat owners and their care givers all of our adult lives. After years with Murrells Inlet Veterinary Hospital, we had the misfortune of watching two of our cats suffer under what we believe to be the malfeasance of (Dr.) Chip Jackson. Ill-equipped to focus on his patients' diagnostic needs (particularly if not in the Vet 101 textbook), Jackson tested and then confused the records of two of our cats. The result was his prescribing insulin for a glucose-normal cat and the delayed start of insulin for a diabetic cat. His, what we must characterize as, malpractice resulted in putting the glucose-normal cat into a coma, which we caught just in time at home and rushed her to the local emergency hospital, which saved her life. Because of our long track record with Jackson, we mistakenly allowed him to continue treating our second, diabetic cat. To summarize his errors: He released the cat in a dehydrated condition. When, in astonishment, we called him on it, he backpedaled, saying that the cat probably needed 24-hour fluids. We did not ask that the cat be released under less than optimal circumstances. We rushed the cat to emergency, whose vets could not fathom why MIVH released him, but had already the been through MIVH's glucose debacle. Even though our cat had showed signs of insulin resistance, Jackson failed to test for pancreatic abnormality. When we took our cat to emergency, acute pancreatitis was detected in the first diagnostic battery. Moreover, Jackson at no point was able to work his way, even provisionally, through the anomaly of a weight-deficient but yet diabetic patient. Our cat ultimately had to be euthanized. We left MIVH when even the practice owner, who schmoozed her way through Jackson's incompetence, denied any error. DO NOT TAKE YOUR BELOVED ONES FOR TREATMENT AT MIVH. Craig & Gloriana M. read more

Just brought my dog for annual checkup. Was disappointed with the way me and my pet were treated. The Tech did more of the examination than the actual Vet did. After the Tech completed blood sample and shots he said the vet would examine my dog but not in the room with me as has been done in the past. She finally showed up and stood far away to go over any questions I may have. So disappointed. The tech should be earning the Vet's salary. If I could give a zero I would . Took my 2 dogs for a check up and heart worm shots . I have never felt so denigrated in my life. I don't know what these vets do there that constitutes the money they charge. The vet I had did nothing in front of me . So saying she gave them a wellness check up was life saying she wiped her butt.she was very stand offish . All she wanted to do was push more tests and it was crazy. Oh my mask slipped off my nose and she scolded me for that. I am vaccinated and that pissed me off. I should have learned my lesson last yr when Dr Chip did blood work on my very sick cat when I was ready to put him down and he said it was probably his thyroid he died in my arms 3 days later. I ask for my records for my dogs I will NEVER go back there. They care about your money not your pets. read more

My 11-year-old Westie developed what turned out to be her first UTI. I had not been to MIVH, but I have friends who go there. After calling around to other vets in Pawleys Island, they could not see her for days. I called MIVH and the person on the phone was very nice and said yes they were booked, but I could bring her in as an Emergency and they would fit her in. I jumped in the car and drove to MI. I pulled up, a staff member came out within a few minutes, called us in a few minutes later and we waited just a short time to be put in a room. The staff was all very nice. She was seen by Dr. Brett Servent who was great, she did indeed have a UTI and was given a shot of antibiotic and a shot for allergy to the grass in SC. I was pleasantly surprised that they did not charge extra for the Emergency visit. Very happy with the entire experience! read more

I have been taking 3 of my dogs there since they were puppies. I had 2 of them there to get their shots and heartworm test in December. When checking out I would have been able to buy their heartworm medicine from them at $50 more per dog for a 12 month package than what they charge at chewy.com. They rejected my request from chewy for my heartworm medicine and my bravecto because they "hadn't seen a vet." BUT I could have bought it from them for $100 more for a year supply for my 2 dogs. The person who responded to me on the chat app was not helpful at all and I asked to speak with a vet. Please explain to me if their heartworm blood work was negative and they were willing to sell me the medicine there without seeing a vet why is it that they could not give the prescription to chewy so I could save a little money. They obviously don't care about animals, they care about their inflated prices and making money! Luckily I have another dog who goes to a different vet and I was able to give them their monthly dose until I get them in with a better vet who actually cares and does not try to break people with their absurd prices. I took my 13 year old dog in for a wellness exam and bloodwork. I was taken on time and was given a bandanna with calming spray for my dog to wear. the visit was uneventful. the Dr called the next day with the bloodwork results. THEN, the following day - a Saturday!, she called to tell me that she woke up that morning thinking about my dog and wanted to call to suggest that I begin giving her a probiotic for the condition we discussed during the visit. Look, no practice is going to be 100% perfect all the time. the staff at MIVH can be a bit put-off-ish, but they are professional and they are kind and compassionate to the pets. And, when a Dr calls to say they woke up thinking about your dog ..... well, you know your pet is in good hands. I highly recommend this practice and Dr. Suzanne in particular. read more

We recently moved to the area and a friend referred us here. We have a large, elderly rescue who is quite anxious. I called to request an appointment with blood work for his thyroid levels and to have his nails trimmed. I attempted to explain how anxious he is and how our previous vet handled him and was rudely cut off stating "you can review with the vet when you get here". The day of the visit he was taken from our car and 5 minutes later he was brought back to us stating the timing was wrong for the bloodwork (never mentioned when I made the appointment) and that they "couldn't get near him". They said to come back tomorrow after we doubled his anxiety medication. We brought him back the next day with double dose of tranquilizer, they came right back out again stating they couldn't get near him again and that he needed to be sedated. I called when we got home and asked if when he was sedated they could clean his teeth and was rudely told "that's a different sedation" before being hung up on. I called back asking to speak with the Vet, who I was told was not there that day. How that can be when we supposedly had an appointment 10 minutes prior with this Vet? Today I get a bill for the visit. I called and was told there was full documentation on his physical...seriously?? how much can you do in 5 minutes when you can't get near the dog? I called, they were again extremely rude. This time the Vet did call me back and insisted she did a full physical. In 5 minutes...unbelievable. I will not be returning and I will be sure to tell all pet owners I meet in the area of my experience. We actually love this area and are happy that we relocated here. This is been the only negative experience since our move last month. A black eye for the area for sure. read more

The reason I gave 3 stars is strictly on front office staff. I have never once been treated in a friendly way either checking in or out, in person or on the phone. Let me start by saying, I have been a customer of this Vet Hospital for 8 1/2 years! I have spent a lot of money here. This place has REALLY gone downhill over the past few years. The staff is not pleasant, when trying to speak to them they walk away. I brought my cat in and paid the bill over the phone and my husband picked him up. They brought out a dog that had the same name as our cat, when my husband told them that he was there to pick up our cat the lady yelled at him and said he should have known due to the amount of the bill. He told her he didn't know the amount of the bill due to I had taken care of it over the phone. She behaved as though he was trying to pull something. It was a simple mistake not anyone trying to do something. Then today I took in my dog for an ear infection, I told them she has a cough due to she ate a stuffed animal. They then tell me they can't keep her as she was a drop off and I will pick her up after I get off work. Let me tell you I had already sat there for over an hour waiting to drop her off with an appointment. I told them she is not contagious she ate a stuffed animal. My two other dogs do not cough she is not contagious. If I thought for a minute she was I would not be upset over all of this. They then told me they would keep her in isolation but they just had a dog in there that has a respiratory infection. I don't want my dog exposed to that she isn't sick! The staff has been terribly rude and I don't think this is good customer service, they probably don't care if I come back but I do know a lot of people and will not EVER recommend them to anyone else again. I hope they see this and do something about the rude staff they have! As far as the Vet's go they are great I have not had any problems with them! read more

I believe that Dr. Bruce is the best Veterinarian ever, he has been taking care of my Labradors for years and we could not have gotten better care. The staff from the Murrells Inlet Veterinary Hospital is friendly and the place has a very positive vibe with 2 cats controlling the front desk. Having Dr. Bruce as our Vet keeps my anxiety down because I trust him so much and I can only recommend this facility. read more

Let me preface this by saying Dr. Bruce is AMAZING and worth going to if you're an EXTREMELY patient person (which I usually consider myself to be), however the majority of the front desk staff is incredibly rude. My dog had cancer; you would think people working in that situation would at least try to be kind...that was not the case at all. The first time I went, after waiting over an hour after my *appointment time* to be seen, they acted as if me asking how much longer was a huge inconvenience nor did they apologize for the delay. I had to start going there because it's the only place in the area that offers Chemo and I continued going because of how helpful Dr. Bruce has been, but after today will not be returning. I let them know upon arrival that I had spoken with Dr. Bruce and was there to see him. We ended up being seen by a doctor I, nor my extremely anxious (due to the recent loss of his best friend) dog had ever seen before. After my appointment was done, they had me sit in the waiting room for another 10 minutes before checking out. My dog was very stressed and when I asked if I could go ahead and pay I was snapped at to "sit down and wait". My neighbors have all said that the doctors and sweet techs there are worth the other, seemingly common issues; but the practice seems very unorganized as a whole and in my opinion no longer worth the trouble. read more
