Our group of 6 dropped into Grand View Cafe for a quick lunch before driving onto Anchorage. It served its purpose but was nothing remarkable food-wise. I ordered the Chicken Fried Rice and I should have known better than to get it in remote Alaska. While a sizable portion, it left a lot to be desired. There was nothing really remarkable about this dish compared to others I've had. They have an extensive menu with foods of all flavor profiles and origins. I would be open to trying something different as those in my group enjoyed their meals. The service was a bit slow for what I was hoping for during lunch. There were two people inside working the front counter and one person cooking. With six of us arriving I expected it to be a bit slower but not as long as we waiting. Plus, one member of our group had their order get lost. Our group sat outside to enjoy the views of the glacier and mountains around us. Overpriced freezer food rations with the absolute rudest service worker!!! My family and I love eating out. We love food, and we love a good dining experience. Normally, after a day of picking berries in Eureka, we look forward to treating ourselves to a meal cooked from scratch and a slice of pie from Eureka Lodge, but to our dismsy, they were closed. So my sister and I decided to head back home and see if anything was open on the way. Grand View Cafe seemed promising. It was busy there and filled with international tourists. There was no sign to seat ourselves or to wait to be seated. There was a counter with a line of customers and some specials on the wall and a notice that their espresso machine was down. Seeing that there was no wait staff, and none of the other patrons were using table menus, my sister and I got in line. We spotted the menus stacked against the wall behind the door, and we looked through a menu. Basic cafe fare and a pizza menu. $3.50 for house coffee, but even their coffee machines were down. Everything in the menu was priced fairly high. The orange chicken over rice special seemed like a good choice, so we ordered that, along with the fried zucchini appetizer and two cold coffees. Mid order, a disgruntled, entitled tourist, rudely interrupted our order to demand the camp rules from the service worker. After a few minutes of deliberating back and forth in broken English between the tourist and service worker, the service worker resumed taking our order. She showed me the screen as she entered our order. Each cold coffee listed as a latte was $6. The orange chicken was $20 per plate. The only pleasant thing about the service is that the kitchen staff brought our food out fast. I can see why, though. There is nothing special about the cold coffee. Nothing even latte about it. The coffe just tasted like a hyped up kourig pod over ice with some half n half. The serving portions were small, and there were't even any sides like eggrolls, fried wanton, or potstickers. The orange chicken tasted like something premade from the grocery store freezer. It was overprocessed, too salty, and the rice also tasted like it was frozen/reheated. There were only 6 fried zucchini fingers, but at least they were fresh out of the deep fryer. The zucchini fingers seemed like they were also from the grocery store freezer. Everything we got was so overpriced for its freezer food quality, and we were served in to-go containers. The service worker got openly annoyed with my sister and I for sitting down at the table to eat our overpriced basic freezer food from our to-go boxes. To add insult to our being overcharged reheated freezer food, the service worker griped at us about how she was "being nice about putting our food into to-go boxes, so why are we dining in? We were supposed to get our food to-go." I get that it was a shitshow with international tourists speaking all their foreign languages, but the audacity that as local Natives we were treated with open hostily was very disappointing. Before I could even finish my food, I had to leave because the service worker became increasingly hostile to the point of glaring at us while stoming by us with attitude and continued with obvious dirty looks. One star is too much. I 10/10 do not recommend. read more

While staying at the Grand View Cafe and RV Park we had their wood fired pizza for dinner. My wife got the Groovy Guy and I selected the Motherlode, both were 13" so we could have some leftovers. They make their own dough and offer a good selection of ingredients if you want to build your own pizza. Cooked to perfection with a nice crisp to the dough. Our server was super friendly and interesting to talk with. I highly recommend the cafe! read more

This is one of two, count 'em, two places to eat along the beautiful (and lonely) stretch of highway connecting Palmer to Glennallen. (if there are others, I'm not aware of them, please send me a message!) I found this place based on a Yelp review on my newsfeed. I thought "what? Glacier View? There is a place up there other than Long Rifle Lodge?!" Turns out there is, and they are open later than Long Rifle! This is what you need to know: KITCHEN CLOSES AT 9PM, LOBBY CLOSES AT 10PM. You can still grab a beer or some fried food after 9pm, but pizzas are pretty much over. They don't have any taps but they have all the major beers from Alaskan Brewing in the bottle, and they are reasonably priced. Something you don't find much in Alaska. Yes, have some. I've only gotten the jalapeno pizza both times I've came here. Both times, I knew I made the right decision. It forgoes the tomato sauce for a spicy jalapeno sauce. Sounds weird, but it totally works. The waitresses all appear to be working a summer job, and from another country. Ours brought us a bottle of ketchup after she brought out our pizza. We must've looked confused, she then told us "In my country, Lithuania, we like to put this on pizza.". She was sweet and charming. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the neighborhood, particularly if Long Rifle is closed. Looks like a great place to camp, too. read more

The cafe here is a hidden gem along the route. Because of the lack of mobile network coverage, I doubt people have give them the a fair set of reviews. As you go in, you get to seat yourselves. We were a party of five on our way to Fairbanks. The waitress was very prompt and got us our menus. I would definitely recommend the jalapeño pizza and the salmon burger. Being extremely tired I loved their coffee so much that I took a second helping for the road. Overall a great stop. Keep a lookout and definitely stop by on this route. read more

We came here on 6/20/15 while staying the night at Matanuska Lodge. There are only 3 places to choose from to eat dinner, after driving past long rifle lodge we decided on here. The restaurant looks very clean and we were immediately impressed. We ordered the small thai pizza for around 20 bucks to split for 2 of us and also got a small cup of clam chowder. I had a bottle of wine that I wanted to drink and they only charged 5 for a corking fee. Pizza was solid and we were happy with our choice for dinner. Service was also excellent! Compared to the other restaurants on our Alaska trip this is a 4 star restaurant, but all my reviews have been comparing restaurants to the lower 48 where this would be a solid 3 star that I would come back to. I would 100% come back to this RV park and definitely recommend it to others!! We were roughing it for about a week before we ended up here and I'm so glad we did! We went to another RV park about an hour away which offered amenities and when we got there they informed us the amenities weren't working. So we came here and got so lucky we did! There are wayyy less bugs here than the other RV parks, likely due to the elevation. They have a laundry and shower system (you pay in quarters and the instructions are super clear). Their laundry is cheaper than our laundromat back home. The shower gets nice and hot. The bathrooms are clean. The outdoor area is clean. I think the food is reasonably priced especially for the area, plus they make it fresh. Anyone who complains about prices is just dumb. We're from NY so we're very biased regarding pizza and I would definitely get their pizza again. Their coffee, breakfast, and carrot cake are totally worth it. The owners are super nice and helpful. There is a trail head right in the park. It's not a huge park and it's not super cramped, which I appreciated. They are dog friendly. The view is AMAZING. We originally were going to stay 1 night but ended up adding another night on (Which the owners were super cool about). Plus the price to stay here is beyond fair! Definitely recommend staying here if you need an RV hookup in the area. So grateful we came across this location :) read more

There aren't many restaurant options if you're driving the Glenn Highway or visiting the Matanuska Glacier. Luckily, this is one of a few solid spots for a tasty meal. My husband and I came here after a long day of driving looking to relax. We ordered a pizza and cesar salad. We were pleasantly surprised to find such a tasty pie! The prices were reasonable, the restaurant was clean, and service was quick. The waitress was very sweet and even asked us if we wanted any condiments for our food. Just ate here last night. It seemed to be the only place open at 9pm for miles. The place looks much better than the other restaurants in the area we passed. The servers where attentive but lacked common courtesies of please and thank you, but still had a warm smile. The burger was decent and fries were very hot and crunchy. Chicken fingers were a bit overcooked and dry. Prices were a bit high for frozen food but not much else to choose from near glacier view. Campground and restaurant looked clean and inviting.
