We stopped here after our 2hr glacier hike to refuel our bellies! I can't speak on the lodging part, but we had lunch here! You have a great view of the glacier from their porches and even inside. The gentleman that sat us was so welcoming and even made sure we had a seat to see the glacier while we ate. Very Alaskan decor with wood log furniture and animals throughout (taxidermy) I had the burrito with chicken, quinoa, black beans, etc and it was huge and filling! I had to take half home :) My partner got the halibut sandwich and said he enjoyed it a lot. He mentioned wanting one more piece of halibut but said the 2PC was enough ;) Prices were very good and comparable to Anchorage despite it being 2hr north. Loved the food and service. DON'T PASS THIS PLACE! Looks like a rural hole in the wall in the middle of a RV park, but it is a well kept, small restaurant and bar. Very well lit, with an excellent collection of large stuffed animals and WONDERFUL Glacier view (for now). This is a great stop along the Glenallen Highway for lunch, especially for children. (Don't touch the animals) They are struggling, like rest of AK, with hiring but our server was awesome and checked on us often. Standard fish sandwiches and hamburgers. It was totally warm and welcoming. This is a standout restaurant. I wanted to visit on the way back from the national park, but we were running a little late. I highly recommend stopping in. Definitely try out the deserts, which are mostly local, homemade pies with or without ala mode. read more

This is a really unique place in the area. With all the stuffed toys for the big macho man and the amazing scenic background of Matanuska glacier makes this place a culinary and visual delight. After our hectic hike up the glacier, our tour guide Lori took us here for a filling lunch. I opted for salmon sandwich with came with onion rings. The salmon tasted fresh and it came on a warm ciabatta bread. The onion rings were super crispy. For dessert I got their homemade Rhubarb pie on a recommendation of our guide and I am glad I tried it. Never thought Rhubarb can go in a dessert. But it worked. Loved it. Colt served us and he was easy to talk to, gave us quick service and made sure we were well attended. The staff also took care of our guide's tab that was nice of them. Highly recommend. read more

This is a gem! We found this by chance, there aren't many (any!) food options around this area so if you are passing by definitely stop here, I highly recommend it! We were given a warm welcome by the server. They really seemed to care! The interior is full of taxidermy animals. We were seated by the window with a fantastic glacier view. Everyone says you have to stop this please but for some reason I was always scared to go in by myself. But today I went in and I'm very glad that I did. It was a beautiful day and I sat outside overlooking the glacier which is such an incredible site. I ordered a Pilsner and a garden salad which was super super inexpensive for Alaska, only $10. What a bargain. I had a nice chat with the owner and his dog visited me while I ate. It was more like he stared at me waiting for me to give him some thing but nonetheless he kept me company. We came here as a recommendation from the guide during our Glacier tour. And what a good decision! The lodge is located immediately after the glacier access point when driving from Anchorage. It is a quaint log cabin main Lodge with some cabins behind it. Immediately, you are treated with models of bears, bison, etc. The view of the glacier is the perfect backdrop to this wonderful looking place. Esp in the winter, you see the snow covered fields, the long matanuska glacier and the snow capped mountains behind. The menu is what you'd like after a good hike on the glacier - burgers, sandwiches, fries, onion rings, salads and mexican fare like tacos and burritos. And the food is delicious!! We ordered the cod sandwich ( beer battered cod with lettuce, tomato and onions on a ciabatta bread) and the blueberry fish tacos (grilled salmon with cabbage, onions and a wonderful savory blueberry sauce). The sandwich came with a side of fries. For dessert we got rhubarb pie. No pictures since my phone ran out of battery at the glacier. But we loved the food!! Very tasty, filling and gives you a satisfied feeling in the body (esp when taken with the glacier). Prices are reasonable. And service is good. This was a fantastic recommendation and I will recommend it to anyone driving on glen highway, and to everyone who thinks of doing the glacier tour. read more

Regardless: everything I've said in the previous review still stands: - Great burgers - Great beer (you can get Glacier Brewing's beer...for cheaper prices than you can get at...Glacier Brewing...explain that one to me? *cough*touristtrap*cough*) - Unparalleled views: this is the type of view you'd have to pay money and then take a lift to get to in most places in the world. - Friendly service - Tasteful taxidermy: you'll see what I mean It just so happens that this place is close to two primo valley ice climbing spots: Summer: Matanuska Glacier. (you're looking at it) Winter: Caribou Creek. (maybe 5-10 minutes down the road) AND, it's one of the few places along the Glenn that actually stays open in the winter! What is better than a hot burger and a cool beer after a day of hand-numbing, butt-chilling, ice climbing? Answer: nothing. My only complaints: #1: They don't do breakfast (although the breakfast at Sheep Mountain Lodge down the road is quite incredible) #2: They aren't open very late. Not a huge deal in the winter, but kind of a bummer in the summer when the sun sets at 11:30pm but the kitchen closes at 8:30pm. read more

This place, although an amazing location near the Glacier and spectacular views, was such a huge disappointment. The service was horrible, we waited for an hour and a half ( and the restaurant was less than half full), to get tasteless burritos, a small plate of onion rings for $13 and a staff that essentially ignored us. The price was almost $100 for 3 of us and we had no drinks. Despite the recommendation from the nice folks at the Glacier tour, stay away from this place. read more

I stopped by here a couple of weeks ago with my wife and her parents for lunch. We had spent the morning on the glacier and were hungry and looking for somewhere nearby to eat whenever we stumbled upon the Long Rifle Lodge. The inside of the restaurant is interesting with lots of wood and then a ton of different stuffed animals. For lunch on this day I decided to go with the BBQ Blue Cheese Burger which came on a ciabatta bun and with a side of fries. My food here here ended up being pretty good. The burger was cooked nicely and smothered in BBQ sauce as promised while the fries were crispy and tasted nice as well. Probably the most interesting part of the visit for myself is that we had a young server. I can't say that he really looked the part but he was honestly the most polite server that I have a had in a long time. I was really impressed by that. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. My food was good and our server was nice and polite. read more

We were ever so happy to find this place. It seemed like we had driven 100 miles without seeing anything other than beautiful landscape. Not that we didn't greatly enjoy the beautiful landscape, but we really needed fuel. So, we arrived here at this great little way point where we were able to see a fantastic vista, get some gas, use the facilities and meet this lovely puppy. I say puppy but, he was a quite mature dog that just wanted to say hello and be petted by anyone that would! He never barked and made a great greeter for this facility. read more

Rhonda Shechtman 1/5 4 hours ago on Google We stayed in the "Winter Cabin". It was clean and warm with a full sized refrigerator and a microwave. The linens were new and fresh. The beds were comfortable enough, but old and worn out. You could feel the springs in the mattress of the double bed and the bunk beds rocked. Still, I slept well. My husband on the futon did not. Our biggest issue was the living room furnishings. There is one comfortable arm chair, and the MOST UNCOMFORTABLE FUTON we have ever sat or slept on in our life. It is a flimsy 4" cushion with soft foam. The frame is wire, and you can feel the wires through the cushion. The description says that the cabin sleeps 6, but this means 2 adults are in the double (not queen) bed, and 2 on the futon that does not lay flat and forces you to roll to the center. Also, there aren't enough chairs for more than 4, and that is if 3 people were sitting on the futon, which wasn't tolerable for over 5 minutes. There are 2 lawn chairs we luckily grabbed off of the porch before it rained. The only table was round and the size of a dart board. This cabin is suitable for 4 people only, and would be comfortable if the owners would only buy some better furniture from a second hand store including another arm chair and an additional larger table. The view from the cabin is scenic, but you cannot see the glacier. It is a dry cabin, as advertised, and my review is not based on that. There is a shower and toilet and sink in a separate building about 100 feet away. It would have been nice if the stairs to the toilet were at the end of the motel's covered walkway especially when it is raining. Over all, this is a cleaner, bright cabin, somewhat run down and musty. It would be sufficient if it had comfortable and more furniture. At $90+ a night it is seriously over priced. When I made my reservations, I asked for the Winter Cabin, but when I arrived, we were assigned to the State Public Use cabin instead. Thankfully, there wasn't anyone else in the Winter Cabin, otherwise we would not have had any mattresses or bedding. We made reservations for 3 nights, but left after one night because we were uncomfortable and had nowhere to sit and enjoy each other's company. I was told when making my reservation that the window for full refunds was 24 hours. When I asked for a refund of my money for the last night, I was told that it was a 5 day window. The restaurant was good but over priced. They do not serve breakfast after the morning hours. read more

Below average food, awful service. Took almost 3 hours for lunch, I had to get up to get my own water (both times I wanted water). Had to go find someone to pay our bill (they were all hanging out in the kitchen). Ordered desert (ice cream for the kids) if seriously took them 20 minute to scoop some ice cream.
