This…read morewas highly unusual and before I go any further I want to give a huge shout out to Mary Ann at the front desk. We checked in on August 5th. It was a midweek reservation for three nights. We were assigned a room in chateau 2, room 2. Upon arriving in our room we were greeted with not only an overwhelming smell of smoke but also a musty unclean smell. The room was dank, the carpet was stained, the head of the bed was pushed up against some sort of cabinet on the wall. The light fixture in the bathroom had a bulb burnt out. There was a sofa that had seen significantly better days. There was also a cheap beat up box fan in the room. I'm not sure if perhaps they were trying to air it out at some point. To be completely transparent it was one of the worst rooms I've ever experienced in all my travels. It was gross. I didn't think to take photos I wish I had thought to but both my husband and I were aghast they would even offer such a room to anyone. We made our way back to the desk and apologetically asked for a better room in the lodge after explaining our concerns. (Though, we had no reason to apologize for being assigned such a poor room.) I don't want to be an ungrateful or entitled hotel guest. I know working in the service industry can be unbelievably trying at times. With all of the rooms at Oglebay Park Resort, there is no possible way Mary Ann could have known the state of that room. Mary Ann was so kind and understanding. She was able to adjust our room for us and issued us a card to receive complimentary breakfast the next morning. To be completely transparent, we have stayed at Oglebay in the past and were never so disappointed as we were this aspect of this visit. My husband has been visiting there since he was a child for yearly family vacations. We have been considering making our yearly family reunion with our 7 grown children and their families. It is my hope that Oglebay Park will refrain from using any room in such poor condition in the future. It is also my hope they will give Mary Ann a commendation for her excellent customer service.

Our room in the lodge was small and very tight compared to most hotel rooms these days. There was visible dust in the heater unit, and in the corners on the floor, and there was mold in crevices in the shower. On top of that, the swimming pool seemed really filthy and the water was murky. On the flipside, the fancy restaurants seemed lovely, though quite expensive. We only dined at the coffee shop and other nearby restaurants. If you are going to Oglebay, I'd recommend staying at another nearby hotel.

I need to write a "Fair" review of the Grand Pine Cabin…read more Many things to like but some real stingers too. First of all the Grand Pine Cabin was beautiful. It is more designed for 2-3 Families or a large group of young adults. Only 3 actual bedrooms and an open loft that sleeps 6 on each side (total 12 in Loft). The Wrap around porch and wood slides/rockers created a great ambience. Walk out basement to bar and Hot tub were nice touches. Plenty of benches and seating for a large group in the open Kitchen/living room. The fishing was great as well but you must pay $25pp/day. Now for the "not so great" points. We checked in at 4:45 pm on arrival day in July 2020. 1. David ,who I think is the owner, came to our cabin to inform us of a few concerns. He Never thanked us for coming and staying. He proceeded to inform us that the water was not drinkable. He also never apologized for any inconvenience this might cause and that set the tone. Apparently previous renter had left the shower or water running and therefore their on-site tank was empty. The owner had informed us that since the City water brought in by Fire Truck that it was not potable water and must be boiled first before use. As well as the Showers would be Dark colored. Boy was he correct. The water was dark brown in the toilets and the shower was brown water as well. This dirty water lasted for the first 24 hours and then the water became more clear. However, it was never potable water the entire stay. This alone was a large issue because we had two large families that we had to cook and drink water. Later through discussion, the owner David informed me their pump only produces 2 gallon/min and this does not keep up with the demand for all the cabins thus the need to purchase city water that was delivered dirty/sentiment. When pushing the issue with Jessica they never followed up with me. David the owner never apologized or even made any concessions for the lack of drinking water and not even offered to bring in drinking water to our cabin for the inconvenience. At these Rental rates you expect everything to be working or even informing us in advance. 2. The next issue is the Hot Tub was set to 80 degrees. I personally own a hot tub and I never keep it that low. Normal Hotels keep their Hot tubs at 102-104 degrees. It take hours to heat up 400 gallons on water. So we had to call to get that fixed the 2nd day and could not enjoy the Hot Tub until Day #3 3. The 3rd issue is that the TV's did not work. I called Jessica and she sent David over. David casually informed me that all you had to do was hit the "Home" button. By this time, two different people tried to log on to both TV's and we each spent 30 mins trying and we are not Novices at TV and Electronics. But I also did not want to reconfigure someone elses' thus the reason for calling. David, definitely installed Cheap TV's. You could not even add newer Stream Apps/services like YouTube TV or other Live Programming. So "Not Only" was there no TV or Antennae but there is only streaming available. David, who clearly did not know what he was doing tried to fix the issue and to operate the TV's. So I took over in front of him and reset the Wifi Network. But in order to use the streaming you had to use your own login. Also there was a DVD player but now HDMI cable. So basically we were only able to watch was Netflix using my own Sign-on. But we spent 2 hours dealing with this issue on our Paid Rental vacation!!! 4. The 4th issue was all the Ants in the bathrooms. We called and asked that the owners spray the cabin. This slowly helped but was not a good feeling to experience "Cabins with insects" on the interior. Not an overall issue but the appliances including TV were not great quality. But the pay for fishing seems like a Crazy amount@ $25pp/day especially if you have 10 people wanting to go fishing for 3 days. That's $750 just to go fishing for three days. In my opinion paying $607/nt for a Cabin then, I would not expect any of these issues. Which tells me that the owners are not inspecting the place thoroughly between rentals. Furthermore, the Rental agreement you need to sign is very very meticulous and is written to cover the owner and really nickel and dimes the renters. Charging per hour for Late departures, Charging extra for each additional person to stay above the basic family of maybe four people, Charging $5 for Towel Rental. We have rented many cabins before and at this level these fees are really unnecessary. That being said we knew those fees prior to booking. But I think overall I would not stay there because of the issues and attitudes. Sometimes, "Sorry" and "Thanks you's" go a long way. But apparently this is not the thinking of David the owner Diamond Lake Cabins.

On the day we arrived, the satellite tv was not working. My father in law tinkered with it for 20 minutes and identified a loose connection. The internet was down for half the day Saturday. We were here for a Saturday wedding and as there was no cell service, WiFi calling was the only means of communication. The hot tub only got warm throughout the weekend. Overall the cabin was very nice and the property was quiet and peaceful. I feel that at this price point, the amenities and cleaning should be included.

The cabinets were full of snacks which were included with the cabin which were a plus, me and my family relaxing near the fireplace and just enjoying one another and a few cartoons. I'm guessing it was one of the owners that stopped by and she brought some homemade cinnamon rolls to the cabin which were from the nearby farm, and they were the best rolls that I've ever tasted.This place was exactly what we needed to relax and have a good time down in Amish country and we will definitely be coming back

I have been going to Oglebay since I was very little, and still continue to visit due to my grandparents living there... but I will say the kids Park absolutely needs renovated. There are so many trip hazards and the entire park is very old and has outdated play equipment. I highly suggest they take some of the funds that they receive for Oglebay and put it into making a new park for the kids. The paddle boats and all the new updated activities are great, but for kids to play at the park, safely, that should be the next focus. As you can see in my photos, every season is gorgeous, and the walking trails throughout are really nice for exercise. There's a restaurant now located on the grounds, I would say it's a little overpriced, but the food is good. I've stayed in the room several times over the years, and some of them are old and outdated, and some of them are really nice and new. I appreciate both. No matter what, they always keep the hotel portion clean. I would say the hot tub seems to have some issues here and there, that pool and hot tub have been there since before I can remember. There's new restaurants inside of the lodge as well, and they also have ravenous reviews. Christmas time is always beautiful, and the beautiful bloom of the flowers during spring is quite a sight to see. Apparently, the zoo will now have lions and beekeeper, I'm excited to take my baby to visit this spring! If you're thinking about visiting, do not hesitate you will enjoy it as much as my family I have for many decades.

I am, and I agreed to stay in a cabin in the West Virginia woods without doing any bear research beforehand. I learned about the bears -- all 14,000 of them roaming the state -- a day before I was supposed to stay at Mountain Creek Cabins, which are located in the middle of the woods in Bruceton Mills. I was ... a little anxious about my stay, you could say. Never mind that a bear attack has never been recorded in the state of West Virginia. There's always a first, right? And it could be me! I'm writing this review unmauled, with all of my limbs intact, and with great memories of my stay at Mountain Creek Cabins. Staying at our cabin was one of the highlights of my visit to the area, and my kids agree: We all loved staying here. There are eight cabins on the property, so we weren't as isolated as I thought we'd be. We weren't isolated, but we were also far enough away from other people that we felt very much like we had lots of privacy. We stayed in the White Tail cabin, which can sleep five with one king bed, two twin beds and a rollaway bed. The twin beds are upstairs, but everything else is downstairs, including a living room with a big TV connected to Roku, a push-button fireplace, a full kitchen and dining table, and a restroom. The kitchen has everything you need to cook and eat at the cabin. The living room has a cabinet with board games. We played one of them (Rummikub) and loved it so much that we ended up buying it once we got home. There's also free and fast wifi, which is important to each person in my family. The decorations in the cabin are sparse, but what decor there is included Bible verses and deer paintings, which is definitely a choice. I was not blown away by the aesthetics of this cabin, but it was the garish lighting that really messed me up. There's one soft lamp in the living room, and everything else is bright, cool, alarming overhead lighting. If you're a person who notices lighting like I do, this place will have you all effed up. My advice: Turn on the lamp, turn on the little light above the stove, and just be OK with the place being a little dark. Your only choice is this or prison lighting. Every cabin comes with its own hot tub, which my children used multiple times during our stay. It was immaculate and steaming when we checked into our cabin, which was much appreciated after a long drive to get to the cabin. The hot tub overlooks the woods, so it was nice to sit in the hot tub and see nothing but trees and a small creek that runs through the property. Well, it was nice for my kids to do that -- I was standing outside on the deck, looking out for bears. I was not about to let the bears dine on Indiana-children soup. All of the cabins have access to a free laundry room, plus there are firewood bundles and eggs (?!?!) that you can purchase on the honor system. We had a great time at Mountain Creek Cabins. It was so relaxing to stay at a place that had everything we needed. I never did end up seeing a bear, so I would stay here again without hesitation.

The cabin has a fire pit out front, a front porch, and a back porch that's covered with a hot tub. There are two cabins close by on either side but it still feels private, especially the hot tub. It's a little weird that the door to the back porch and the kitchen window don't have curtains but I guess the trees probably blocked some or all of the view in. It's a cabin so don't expect a ton of room, but it's cozy and there is still plenty of space for two people. A family of four would be fine, but unless you're super close I wouldn't recommend two couples sharing the Shawnee cabin. There's a couch and TV but the TV doesn't really turn much (not a big deal). TV has Roku built in and there is dish satellite channels. There's plenty of heat, with two space heaters and an electric fireplace, which is basically another heater. The kitchen has basically everything you need. There's a small oven and an electric stove (that takes a while). There's also a tiny dishwasher which is nice. The fridge was turned on right before we arrived so it took like six hours to cool down. I wish they turned it on earlier but it wasn't a big deal. There's a coffee maker that can make kcups or regular coffee, and they provide a bunch of kcups. There's also salt and pepper, as well as aluminum foil. The bed was super comfy and we slept great all three nights. Bathroom was standard and worked fine. Hot tub was the true MVP of the trip. There's nothing better than ending a long day with a cold beer and a hot soak. Don't forget to hydrate too! The hot tub smelled a bit weird but we got used to it. Set that bad boy to 104° and you're good to go. It snowed a little and we don't have all wheel drive. All the driveways seems to be on an incline so we had to park strategically on the road that splits to the different cabins. They recommend AWD but if there's less than 4" of snow, you probably will be fine. The snow was beautiful! The owners/managers were hard to get a hold of. We called a couple times to get in touch but did not hear back at all. In the end, it was fine because the email we got after booking was very detailed and there's a binder on top of the fridge with more information. Note: wifi password was on the side of the fridge, not the front. As you're entering, follow the instructions on your email, and not your google maps/Waze/etc. Just remember to take exit 15 and take that route. As of early 2021, Verizon and TMobile had service until the last five minutes of the drive and no service at all around the cabins. There are no gas stations or grocery stores remotely close. I recommend getting food and gas in Frostburg or Cumberland (coming from DC) or Morgantown (if you come from West/North/South). Apparently one pizza place delivers to the cabins but we didn't order. I definitely recommend coming to stay at Mountain Creek Cabins and I think I'd love to come back in the future.

The park is on the smaller side but does have plenty of parking spaces. The trail is paved and clearly marked. I was expecting it to loop all the way around the lake but it didn't seem to. There were a few trails off of the paved path that I didn't explore. The views of the lake are very nice and there are a few benches to stop and enjoy it. I was pleasantly surprised at how nice this place was and also how busy it was. I arrived just before 10am and the place was buzzing with people enjoying the lake.
