Weird, unpleasant experience. The moment I sat in the chair and asked what I wanted, the barber (the current owner, I think) decided to give his opinion of my style. I asked for no line in the back, and he called my preference messy and said no line looked stupid. At one point I was also concerned he was cutting off too much, and he just brushed me off. You're free to have whatever opinion you want of my haircut, but he chose to be rude to paying customer for no reason -- probably because he profiled me as not being a straightlaced, buzz cut type of guy, I guess. read more

I was not impressed. I went in last fall for a fade, the older gentleman who attended me (who was late in opening in the morning), ended up giving me nothing close to a fade but rather a buzz that I could have done myself at home. Will not be coming back. read more

Never go here, Terrible experience from the beginning. I came in waited my turn, got into the seat and showed several pictures and multiple videos of a simple V-fade and a tiny V design and to leave the top long, (Very simple haircut). The barber very rudely was making disgusting remarks and laughing asking why the hell anybody would want that and was giggling here and there like a child (he's probably 55). And anyways he got to work and he started just cutting some insane shape into the back of my head that was like 4 inches wide and looked like Angel wings (huge bald spot basically now). Didn't even move the top of my hair out the way and accidentally just cut the left side top and left the right side with longer hair (not fixable so he just tried to comb my hair over so i don't see it), then proceeded to just use a #3 guard and just gave me a even buzzcut around the sides of my head (where I want a fade). He showed me the mirror and I asked him in what world do you put a design before you even do the haircut, his response was "oh i just wanted to get it out the way right now" That's NOT how it works in any situation ever. He asked me how the haircut is looking and gave me a mirror, it was nowhere near the PLENTY of pictures and videos i showed before and thought the haircut because he kept needing a reminder of what to do on this simple fade. This prick had the balls to argue back and giggle while doing so telling me that it's the same thing as what i'm showing him when it's just denial at this point. The owner or whoever the other guy is comes over to look and sees how terrible of a job his coworker did and just takes a deep breath and stares at him for a 5-10 seconds and decides it's best for him to takeover and try to save me, He's more polite and understanding and no an absolute @ss hole like the other guy. Takes some time and tries his best yet my haircut was already ruined in the first minute i was with the other guy. $32 and a bunch of dirty looks, gross attitude and a horrible vibe in there. read more

Describing how I want my haircut is always a battle. It is not that I am specific or fashionable it is in fact the opposite, I just want my hairs shorter and acceptable for society at large. No asymmetry, no gel, usually no rat tail. I usually just tell the hairdresser to go to work and I won't complain, which seems to make most of them uncomfortable. The other option: nebulous descriptors that probably make matters worse. So I go into Jim's and I tell the man there I want to shorter. He says, "ok, a bit shorter buddy," and proceeds to cut my hair quickly and more or less precisely how I would envision it. i.e. perfect. I return a month and a half later and he repeats this feat. Bottom line: for a straightforward men's haircut this place is great. Just beware, if you bring you son and your into sheltering him, there are some Playboys mixed in with the comics. Brutal hair cut. The 50-something guy with the mustache cut my hair. Left me looking awful. Cut way too short, spent more time watching Star Trek re runs on his old TV than paying attention to his customer. Sloppy and careless work around the sides. Made me look really bad. Will not return ever. with the clipper. When I said it was too short he said, "Well you want to look neat and clean, don't you?" What arrogance coming from someone who looked like they haven't shaved, showered, or exercised in some time. Awful. He knows how to cut hair, and he's especially talented when it comes to beard trims. I don't really ever know what to say when a barber asks me what I want done, but even with my less than helpful instructions, it always ends up being exactly what I was looking for. Go here, not the chain barber shop across the street. It's worth it, the prices are right, and as a bonus, he can tell you anything you want to know about classic cars. Good Haircut, strange barbers. The two men working complained (graphically) about personal things as I got my haircut. One was talking about a "tweeker' friend who had gotten pregnant (again) and commented that "she should get her damn uterus ripped out." The other barber made negative, whiney comments the entire time. (for example: "god, she's a dumbass", "I hate all these fucking commercials" etc.) Despite good haircut and reasonable price, it was too negative an atmosphere for me. Tim's is the best old school barber shop on Capitol Hill. The space , magazines, and movies make it a great refuge from the self-conscious coolness of the typical neighborhood salon. Go if you are looking for a high fade or buzz cut. There are many good shops around the hill if you need a more stylized haircut. So, I'm vacationing in Seattle and I needed a haircut. I searched here on Yelp for a good barber to go to and saw that Tim's was around the corner from where I am staying. They had a good rating so I decided to give them a chance. I have to say that reviews on here are very accurate. I got exactly the haircut I envisioned. The only scary part was that they cut your hair facing away from he mirror so you have no idea what it is going to look like until the end when they spin you around. For someone going to a barber for the first time that can make you a bit nervous. Anyway, I definitely feel comfortable recommending Tim's to everyone. Oh Tim's. Everyone was nice, service was quick, and the price was fine. Though I the white-haired gentleman, kind as he was, was too quick on the draw. I gave simple instructions for my cut: a trim. To be more specific I supplemented; short on the sides and longer on top. I can cut my own damn hair it's so simple, but the rear looks a little ragged and I wanted to treat myself to a cleaner experience. The cut I received was a dramatic damn rearrangement; way shorter than anticipated, and my part was totally moved. Don't get me wrong: I know what's important in life. The Seahawks winning is important (which they'd just done when I went in- maybe my guy was hell of distracted). Public service is important. Obeying (most) laws and drinking tequila in hot weather; those are important. Fucking with a man's part is not right. Should be illegal. Is illegal! He shaved it down and I looked like a bird for two months. Public disservice, that cut. Worst cut I"ve had since my mother used to give me bowl cuts in grade school. I went to Jim's (Tim's) after looking at all the reviews on Yelp (five stars when I saw it) and couldn't have been more disappointed with my cut. The first red flag should have been that he was sleeping in one of the waiting chairs when I walked in. After telling him what I wanted ("I'm trying to grow my hair out, thin the back and get the hair out of my eyes") he proceeded to cut the hair off the sides of my head and around my ears. The worst part was that he didn't even have me face the mirror for the entire cut, so I didn't know how much he was taking off until it was too late. I now have a straight line of hair across my forehead, as well. I'm not very particular about my hair. I've been to different hair salons and barbers in different places around the world, and this is by far the worst cut I have ever gotten. Not at all what I wanted or asked for. I am going to go back to my old barber on the Eastside to try and repair the damage. Jim's may be great for some people, but if you want anything more complicated than a crew-cut, I suggest you search elsewhere. read more
