TLDR; Make a reservation or be prepared to wait a while. Good booze, great food and equally good service. Try sitting outside, it's gorgeous. First impression: BUSY! Very pretty establishment and plenty of parking. Service: They offered reservations, which is always nice. Wait time was higher for indoor seating, but outdoor was tolerable, so we sat outside. Hostess was polite and swift. Waitress was interactive and tolerable to our indecisiveness, despite being so busy. They have a huge pond for outdoor eaters to admire, and it provide a beautiful sense of nature to our outdoor experience. Food: Everything we ordered was fantastically prepared/cooked. Everything was seasoned well, objectively. Seasoning was applied JUST enough to taste it, so as to avoid being over bearing to the more sensitive eaters. It was not so light that I felt like I needed to add anything though. The order/timing our food came out was reasonable and expected, based on population at the time. Drinks: Tea and water were both good. I order a regular margarita every time I try a new place, as part of my initial review process, for consistency. Their margarita was 10/10 and arguably the best I've ever had. I'm a red wine drinker, so I tried the "purple cowboy", since purple is my favorite color. This is my new favorite wine. I'll never not order it when I visit this place. We ordered a flight to try their local beers. Their award winning beer was fantastic. I can see why it won an award. I personally am not a fan of that type of beer, but objectively, and from trying dozens of this type over the years, it was good. Final impression: We've since been back to this Brewery multiple times, and will make it a regular option on our date nights. This is my opinion on the day we went in and do with it as you want. When we first arrived, they were busy. There was a Sunday brunch going on. No problem, we ended up waiting, maybe 15 minutes to get a table. There were 4 of us. That wasn't an issue and the staff was great. We got seated at our table and our waiter, I believe his name was Benjamin, was awesome. Great guy, didn't pressure us to order right away. Gave us time to look and would check in on us. All around great service. He was a 5 star! Even the atmosphere, with it being busy, was what you would expect. A lot of people talking and having a good time, no problems, no issues. We were kind of set back in the corner, which I'm thankful for, because we didn't have the noise from the Brunch area. The reason for the 3 stars is because of the food. With 4 people being served, you would think they would get the fries right? They were over seasoned on everyone's plate, horribly over seasoned. You might as well have been dipping them straight into the container of whatever seasoning was on them. Of the 4 orders of French fries, we left 2 orders on the table. I ordered the Gastro Pub Bison Burger, medium. Benjamin even started it was going to have some pink in the middle, and I said yes. The ticket even stated it. I don't know why they even put it on the ticket if they're going to cook it done. The burger ended up being over cooked and dry. It was a Bison burger, so there's plenty of moisture in those burgers when cooked to medium. This thing comes out as a little nothing sized burger. I wasn't impressed with it at all. My wife's order, Spinach and Artichoke Chicken Sandwich, came out good and she ate it all and really enjoyed it. One daughter had ordered a Buffalo Chicken Wrap. She's had them before at other places and was excited to try their's. Came out ok except for the, what she stated as being too spicy. And again, the fries were over seasoned. My other daughter order a Spicy Dill Flatbread, which turned out really good. She was the only one of us who did like the over seasoned fries. Now when it comes to food, I never send anything back and i don't say anything because we might not be done with ordering. I have the biggest fear about retaliation. You hear the stories from someone you know, of possibly something being a little sketchy when food is reordered or it comes back out, so I just don't do it. I have been here before and it is pretty much the same as I remember it. The staff being great, but the food just being not worth it. The funny thing is it's the Chef's name is on the door when you come in the building. If I was him, I'd be a little embarrassed that his cooking staff can't do a medium burger and do some retraining. At least watch what the cooking staff is doing while preparing food that his name is associated with. I don't need to go back there and eat. read more

Waited an hour and 10 minutes after placing a simple order to find out our meal went to the wrong table. After that was acknowledged, we waited another half hour. Figured something would be comped, but NOTHING was. Will not be coming back any time soon- would recommend better training for server and management. read more

When we arrived, we were told that there wasn't any booths available and was seated at a table. The hostess was very rude and insisted that we must take the table as there weren't any booths available. We counted five booths available that were empty, and we arrived at 5pm. I returned to the hostess and asked again if we can be seated at one of the booths, as that is what I had specified in the first place. She gave me a firm "no". Very rude. I will not return to this Granite City Brewery. I made a reservation for two; for a booth, and was completely ignored. Very disappointed. Granite City needs to replace their hostess with someone who is compassionate and not so rigid and unfriendly. read more

This was my first time to visit here. Both the hotel front desk and Yelp rated this place very highly. I had a nice table adjacent to the bar area. I started with my Clooney Rita for $10.99 followed by my Jambalaya for $16.99. My Jambalaya was tasty. I ended my dinner with their porter mug for $7.50. My total bill was $39 less gratuities. I really enjoy Granite city. The food is very reasonably priced for what you get and the appetizers and specials during happy hour are quite good. The service is excellent and I enjoy the ambience. It reminds me of a northern one and the atmosphere is very homey and comfortable. It's the place I go to two or three times a year and for me that's quite a bit. I think it's certainly worth while trying. I enjoy the in-house brewery, but again think the prices are a bit too high. Also, this restaurant has really good prices on their gift cards.. I I buy them this time of year and they really bring the cost down. We love us some Granite City, but have to say that our experience at this one on a Saturday night in August was not our best. Yes it was late in the evening, but not closing-time late. Four of us sat in the bar area and proceeded to have terrible service. Being from out of town, staying at a nearby hotel, and having had great Granite City experiences before, we were very disappointed that it took forever to get drinks, food, and oh-my-gosh I thought we would never pay to get out. As far as Granite City goes, if you'd ask me what I thought I about it based on previous visits, I'd have said that it's along the lines of "The Applebees of Brew Pubs." Based on this last visit though, I'd like to amend that because we had a really nice experience and very much enjoyed our dinner, my husband and I. Firstly, our server (I think his name was Nick) did an excellent job, making us feel very welcome. He continued to be attentive throughout our meal, without being pushy or obtrusive. Everything we ordered came out in a timely fashion and there was not only a really large group dining at the same time, but several larger parties as well! And we didn't have to really wait for anything we'd ordered! Secondly, the food was on point! I was pleasantly surprised--I wasn't expecting much, as we'd basically ordered soups and burgers, but everything was really great! I'm not usually blown away by cheddar soups, but the Northern Cheddar & Ale soup is so good; it's not over-the-top boozy, and the rye bread croutons are dope! My husband also really enjoyed his french onion soup (it's his favorite and therefore he's quite picky about it). The most surprising and enjoyable part of our dinner were the burgers! GC actually cooks burgers to temp! So when you order a medium/medium rare burger, that what you get! Not a cooked-to-death patty! And if you love seafood, you have to get the Oscar Burger. As a former Marylander, I am HELLA PICKY about any entree that has crab meat in it, and this burger blew me away! It was so good! My only complaint is that the beer they brew has been consistently underwhelming. If you're new to the craft scene, it's a nice place to warm up those training wheels and find out what you like, but for more experienced craft drinkers, stick to the rotating guest taps. read more
