As for the trail, there were some muddy areas, but nothing bad on the multi use trail. It seems like people are good about keeping the place clean as I didn't see any poop on the trails. I did see a bunch of other hikers and even a few people having a picnic. I enjoyed views of the pond, river and some small cliff-like areas. There is really a bit of everything, from wooded areas to open fields. I definitely enjoyed the variety. I think the only drawbacks is that gravel parking lot has a port-a-potty for bathroom facilities (I mean, it keeps in with the theme of being more wild?). There was a quite large parking lot so no issues there.

Right from the start of the hike, I appreciated that there were signs showing the latest time you should be back by (8:40 pm closing time), along with phone numbers to call if you ever needed help. I also liked how about every half mile to mile, there were mile markers or detailed maps showing where you were and what else to expect depending on how far you planned to go. And honestly... there were just SO MANY beautiful nature sights with every step. The river flowing alongside most of the trail, the moss-covered trees, the little wildflowers and mushrooms popping up here and there! Everything was just so pretty!! It felt like we couldn't walk more than a few steps without stopping to take photos because we were in constant awe haha. Although we weren't able to make it all the way up to the Upper Falls due to the sun setting, getting to see both the Lower and Middle Falls was still such a gorgeous and accomplishing experience. I especially loved how from the Lower Falls, you can also see the Middle Falls in the distance! And the Middle Falls itself, absolutely awe-striking!! Overall, such a memorable and beautiful hike! I'll definitely have to come back and complete it all the way to the top next time lol

Even though the parking lot was full, there were moments where there was no one else close to us on the trailhead. Personally the middle falls had the best view though a bit obstructed for photos. I completed the upper falls back in 2016 and remembered not being as impressed so I opted out and stopped at the middle falls. My dog was also likely to resist as he was pretty tired by the middle falls. Needs discover pass. The entrance has a small water fountain but definitely bring water. There are no trash areas along the way so make a plan if you have a dog.

The whole trail smells like sewage because the entire trail is actually a paved sewer line with sewage warning flags in the bushes with run off in the ditches and what looks and smells like treated sewage ponds, you can literally see toilet paper in the ditches on the path along with brown slurry. I've never seen such a gross area to walk in Washington it's a construct of ritzy filth with nice trees and no animals.

I love that this hike doesn't require any pass or fee. There's no restroom, so Espresso Chalet is a good place to stop to use the restroom before the hike! The trail was pretty quiet, we only saw a few people on the way up and down. We had the top of the lookout to ourselves for about 15mins, before groups of people started to arrived so if you want privacy go early. Either way it wasn't too crowded and people were considerate with taking turns at the front of the lookout.

Husband and I launched our boat and sailed out to fish. Tons of regulations as it is a reservoir: 1. Unscented artificial flies or lures with one-single point allowed only. 2. Bait is prohibited. 3. No inflatable devices Amongst many other restrictions. Didn't really understand the last one as I'm assuming it includes paddles and boats. Regardless of the restrictions, it was still beautiful lake to experience and hike. Recommend 100% if you want to emerge in the nature, lake, and tons of cascades.

Tucked away and quiet, Culmback dam is a nice little walk. There are other trails around the lake…read morewhich we've yet to explore, but the little walk around the dam is easy for families or if you want a lovely place to picnic without trouble loading in/out. I'd say this is a good place to bring kids, but make sure they stay away from the edges. Everything is barricaded, but more adventurous kiddos might be inclined to climb the rocks and that's a no-no. The drive up to the dam is pretty too. It's steep and does get snow, so come prepared. Enjoy!

Found a perfectly located bench not too far from the lighthouse, & enjoyed the rest of our cone with beautiful views. The beach is long and narrow. Tons of people were there and some used the bonfire pits available on the sand. Someone was playing music on their speaker, it was a fun vibe. There was plenty of driftwood, one of which we used for seating. We sat there and picnicked while spending a couple hours looking out at the islands, boats, ferries, kayaks, and people skipping rocks into the water. To top it off, there are a few structures with fairly clean public restrooms, very convenient! Definitely coming back to this beach, hopefully next time I can catch the lighthouse tour.

It was gorgeous sunny weather here yesterday, so I went for a short hike at Lund's Gulch/Meadowdale…read moreCounty Park. I parked at the head of the trail, and I hiked down (400 foot drop in elevation) to the ocean through this gorgeous ravine with huge old-growth trees. Mostly I saw stumps that had been logged out long ago, but there still are some huge growing trees in that ravine...one old-growth stump must have been at least 30 feet in diameter...wow! I saw big leaf maples, Douglas firs, and cedar trees...and because it's in a damp ravine and near the ocean, many trees were covered with beautiful thick moss with ferns growing from the mossy bark. Very picturesque! There is a creek that flows down that ravine, which is supposed to have spawning salmon going up it, during that season. Eventually the trail comes to a park with a ranger's residence, picnic tables, and some huts/shelters that can be reserved, I read. I read online somewhere this morning that years ago this park area had once been a country club and it had a full sized Olympic swimming pool and bath houses. In 1968 Snohomish County acquired the property, and transformed it into this park. Then I continued walking further west to the underpass/tunnel that goes under the train tracks, which goes to a nice driftwood laden beach with beautiful views of the Olympic Peninsula with fresh snow-covered peaks. The creek makes its way to the ocean via that tunnel too, I believe, and I read online that it's not possible to walk through the tunnel during the big runoff season. The beach was very relaxing, so I sat there awhile, taking in the views that I've only seen from the train's perspective when I've ridden the Sounder from Edmonds to Mukilteo. Yesterday, there were quite a few elderly couples walking that trail, and folks with their dogs. I'm sure if I'd taken this short hike (2.5 miles RT) on a weekend, it would have been really packed with lots more people and dogs. Overall, this was an easy and short hike, other than the couple short steep spots on the hike back up to the parking lot, which got me huffing & puffing a bit. However, it's well worth it.

The trail parallels a creek, and there's a nice grassy area with picnic tables at the bottom just before a short tunnel that leads to a beautiful Puget Sound beach. We decided not to take the direct route, and opted instead for one of the small dirt trails leading off the parking area. This muddy, 'wild' path kind of petered out at a point deeper in the forest but still near the top of the gulch. Decided to try bush-bashing our way down to sea level from there-- it made for more of an adventure, but damn there's a lot of devil's club and nettles in there! Was happy to take the nice & easy gravel path back up to the top when we were done at the beach!
