    Snow shoeing fun!!!

5 stars A quiet romantic getaway? Yes Please!!! From the moment you walk into this little gem of an Inn you feel immediately rested and a ton of warmth. The layout is spacious and beautifully decorated. Their property is a little slice of heaven. There are deer and tons of wildlife all around as well as breathtaking scenery right from their back windows. We fell in love with our room, not only was it very comfortable it was pristine and gave an air of romance. We loved the little gas furnace and the bed was super comfy. The owners Sandy and Don are literally the nicest people you could ever meet. Both are wonderful but Don is my absolute favorite. They truly end up feeling like family. They bent over backwards to make it special for us and even included champagne for our 15 year anniversary. Sandy offered a ton of ideas to do in town and outside of town. She nailed every recommendation. Sandy is not only a gourmet cook but she is an amazing baker too. Every morning our breakfast was unbelievably yummy and well plated. She baked extra special treats for us as well. We were delighted with our stay here and would highly recommend it to anyone. I've already told about 10 of my friends and family. The price is perfect for all the amenities and I would even have paid more. We can't wait to stay here again.

They were very friendly and helpful during our email communication and the website was very intuitive. After an sudden winter snowstorm of 6", our vehicle was stuck leaving us lost, cold and unsure how to get to Scandanavian Escapes. After a a quick call to Linny, Mr. Vern gladly retrieved us from our car (which was stuck in the snow!). After hearing that we had not eaten supper, Mr. Vern was nice enough to provide us with both a taxi number and a lift into town. The online pictures don't do the "Birchwood Tree House" justice, but it was our favorite room in the house. Although a smaller room, the decor was beautiful and cozy and we loved the bird theme. The private deck was a nice touch and the morning coffee + breakfast in bed truly made the tree house unforgettable- we can't recommend this room enough. Their hospitality was outstanding- we had such an incredible time at the Scandanavian Escapes that we're already planning our next stay at the Birchwood Tree House. Many thanks to Linny and Vern (and Ruby) for a very memorable weekend.

The convenience of the in-suite kitchen with all you need for a lovely and traditional Bavarian waffle breakfast is also unique, baked goods, fresh fruit, cereals, teas and coffee all right there in your room, whether you wake up at 4:00AM or 11:00AM (I promote the latter.) The owners, Sandy and Ted, have meticulously sculptured this beautiful property into the gorgeous landscape blending Bavarian culture with the river, the mountains and the lush forest. You can sleep at night warm and comfortable listening to the constant flow of the Wenatchee River just a hundred feet from your doorstep, it simply could not be more peaceful and engaging. Location: Perfectly situated away from the noise of town yet close enough to walk but you're better off driving to the town Leavenworth which is approximately 5 minutes away. Accommodations: Perfect Bed and Breakfast place with only 7 guest rooms (all the rooms are upstairs but one). The rooms are very quiet, no noise from foot traffic in the lobby or hallways, or young uns. The room decorations are exactly as you see them on their website. Large comfortable bed with warm fluffy pillows and comforters. We were very fortunate to stay at two different rooms during our stay. The Almorosen and Dornroschen with both very different and unique feel. Waking up every morning standing on the balcony with fresh coffee overseeing the snow on the valley and nearby mountains was magical. Breakfast: How do I describe it other than seeing every photos posted does not do it justice. It was very German theme and man it was so delicious !! (not the standard hotel continental breakfast either). The staff and host was on point every day ready to serve your needs. After walking around town there's always late treats (cake, pastry or cookies) waiting for you in the kitchen to have with a variety of tea or coffee. They also have an area with a giant fireplace and piano you can relax. There are Christmas trees everywhere (bedroom, eating area, relaxing lobby and stairway leading upstairs) fully decorated with lights. Every thing about the decorations, food served was very European (German). Service: First class service everyday. If you needed privacy or room cleaned you got it, always fresh thick towels with a warm bathrobe waiting in closet. The proprietor (Hayley) I hope was her name was super friendly and gave a little history about Abendblume and the town of Leavenworth. Staff was very helpful as previously mentioned. By far this was THE BEST Bed and Breakfast Place we have ever stayed. Every attention to details (inside the building and outside) was well thought out with a German theme. Hayley suggested we come back during late spring when the valley is blooming with beautiful colorful flowers, which we are already planning to do. Thank you very much Hayley and your staff. Then upon coming back to the room in the evening, their orange cat graced us with his presence. We stayed in the Artic Fox. Beautifully decorated. Has a cozy fireplace. They have all the fixings in your room to make your own tea, hot chocolate, or cider. The only thing missing was some place to put my clothes: there was no dresser or set of drawers and only 5 hangers. I also do not believe this good for taller people...my husband barely fit in the area the toilet was in, he had to bend down to see himself in the mirror, and the shower was TIGHT. I appreciated the common area they have for guests that complete with books, a coffee machine, television, games, and a complete set of kitchen utensils if you decide to eat in or create a charcuterie board like we did one evening. Their breakfast was REALLY good. Although I did miss having an option for a morning orange juice. Another thing to consider: They took the liberty to enter your room whenever they wanted. They are really picky about not having the gas fireplace going to keep your room warm when you are not physically in the room. Without the fireplace on, our room was frigid. I felt like I was a teenager back at my parent's house.

The only other place we found to be a dog friendly hotel with a vacancy was Sleeping Lady Lodge. We spent two nights for 500/night plus an additional 50/night for an under 10 pound dog. Be prepared to use a cart provided to get your stuff from the parking lot to your room, about 200 yards round trip for us. You get a map at check-in and there are a couple of maps along the trails to help you find your room. Pool appeared locked and the "Grotto" bar closed. You can grab a small cup of coffee at the office. If you want your room cleaned each day, they ask that you call and let them know. Run out of the four, one-cup Nescafé coffee pods they supply? You have to call them before 7am the next morning or come pick up what's left at the office. They tasted terrible to me. They do provide an electric teapot so if you bring instant coffee or tea, you can make your own. There is a small fridge but no microwave. No TV either, but that was okay with us. There is a broom so you can sweep your own floor. This time of year you will track in sand from the walkways if you come inside with your shoes on. Our room had a double bed and a twin. Down comforters on both but the beds were not very comfortable. On site breakfast buffet was an additional 25 per person when it's free at many other hotels in town. This is a nice place if you don't mind a rustic cabin type room with rickety furniture. Good water pressure and heat. Loved the heating rack in the bathroom to warm towels or dry clothing. No fan in bathroom so it gets humid in there if you shower or bathe and can be stinky if you...well, you know. Tub/shower/toilet in bathroom. Sink and mirror in sleeping area. Minimal seating (old swivel chair and lounge chair.) If you want a McDonalds-like egg McMuffin, coffee and/or a pastry for breakfast there is a little coffee shop by the main road. Otherwise, plan to drive 4 miles into town. Ditto for lunch and/or dinner. Bottom Line: You're not coming here to pay for the service or upscale accommodations (though you wouldn't know it from the price.) You're paying for the quiet, woodsy atmosphere the place provides, the dark sky at night, and the mountain surroundings which are beautiful.
