I love this place!! I come in the summers, and the ice cream is delicious and there is such a large selection. My only suggestion would be some improvement on the ambiance....definitely some music, or more decoration? Cute little candy and ice cream shop in downtown battle lake. Open concept with tables of pick your own candy that they sell by the pound. They have a bunch of ice cream flavors that you can get in either a dish or a cone. They also make their own fudge. Which is pretty good. The ice cream is good and at a reasonable price. The candy is not anything g unique and seems a little overpriced for what it is. Overall, the kids love going to the candy store and it's a highlight of their week so we go. This is the place to be in this town if you have a sweet tooth. There is no question that this is a tradition for our friends for a reason. Vacation means fun, and ice cream and sweets is fun. In the evenings or even if it's raining everyone in town heads this direction. There is a line down around the taffy and out the door for ice cream. Cash only. *** What a fun atmosphere. Multiple people working hard and fast to get you your ice cream and move you along. No tasting or samples, my guess cause it slows things down, but they are all good. Don't forget to go check out all the unique flavors of taffy . I was intrigued and puzzled by some. The chicken and waffles flavor was different. Recently stopped here while on a trip to visit family. Cute ice cream shop with candy. They had a ton of ice cream flavors (maybe 20?). They also had a huge select of saltwater taffy. Cute place to stop if you are in town. Reasonable prices for a cool treat on a hot summer day. Beware they do not take credit or debit cards. They do have an ATM on site but it does charge a fee to use ($2.50 I believe). read more

This place is everything good about my childhood all wrapped up in a small town candy store. If you're sweet tooth is aching for something, Granny's definitely has the cure! On a hot summer day you'll find folks sitting on the chairs outside eating "Granny cones" - their ice cream selection is phenomenal. They have some delectable fudges you have to try, but what I always came here for was the bulk candy. Talk about feeling like a kid in a candy store - I remember when I was one at this place, fill up your bag to your heart's delight with gummy candy in all shapes, taffy and anything else you can imagine. NO SAMPLES!! What kind of ice cream parlor refuses to give out samples? I understand a sample limit or limiting samples when the line is really long. But to give no samples at all is just shooting yourself in the foot in a business sense. Why would you not accept a small decrease in profits in order to guarantee customer satisfaction? It's simply bad business practice. I ended up going with a flavor I probably wouldn't of had I had the chance to sample and overall had a less than satisfactory experience as a result. read more

In August of 2018, I wanted to take my three year old daughter to a shop in my husband's hometown. They sell ice cream, candy, fudge, and coffee. I called to inquire if they have any dairy-free options for frozen desserts. I was literally laughed at. I was told "I've got one tub of rainbow sherbet but I have no idea if there is dairy in it". I said ok thanks and hung up. But I was unsettled. I felt the need to call back and explain why I was asking, because it is not a laughing matter in my house. So, I called back. The same man answered the phone. I said "I'm sorry, but I thought I should call back and explain why I was asking about non-dairy options. I found you laughing at my question to be rude, and I wanted to explain myself. My daughter has a severe disorder that is impacted by what she eats. She has a very limited diet, and I was hoping to bring her on a fun outing. However, I was trying to prevent a three year old from absolutely losing her mind when we arrived and there was nothing she could eat as she loves frozen treats". I then went on to explain that I thought this shop might be understanding of dietary restrictions because I had the understanding that an owner also had some health issues, perhaps diabetes. I then asked what the man's name was and he responded with (and started yelling at me), "Terry, my name is Terry and I am one of the owners. We are an ice cream shop. We sell ice cream. And quite frankly, I find your comments rude because you are trying to make your problem my problem and that's not ok!" I can't quite figure out what was wrong with my inquiry. I never made a big deal out of the fact that there wasn't a dairy-free option available - a shop can carry anything they want to carry. I was using the answer as a deciding factor on if we would be stopping or not. I did not need to be laughed at. Perhaps my question was seen as ridicule (which it was not in any way - I have very fond memories of this place and just wanted to share it with our daughter). I also can't figure out two things about this owner. The first is why he is not more aware of what is in the products he sells and didn't have nutritional information available to reference. The second is why would any business owner ever talk like that? Why would any person ever treat another person like that? To go from rudely laughing at what I think is a straightforward question to calling my daughter a problem in such a rude way? And... as a side note... I've never, ever seen "an ice cream shop" without some sort of a non-dairy frozen treat. In fact, even the ones with "dairy" and "creamery" and "ice cream" in their name (this one does not!) have non-dairy options. And as another side note... we are so thankful for nice establishments and understanding individuals and will only be bringing our business to them. Just like this store can choose to only sell ice cream, we can choose to not support business with this type of mentality. My fond memories will remain that... fond memories, but I say we will never set foot in that store again. read more

My family LOVES going to Granny's! It has become a ritual for our kids and grandkids for the past several years. We love the Ice Cream!!! HOWEVER, it has become increasingly hard for me to overlook the horrifically dirty floors. I wonder how the health department doesn't flag this? With the obvious success of this business, I would think they would put a little pride into their environment and at least keep the floors clean..it's truly unacceptable. read more
