Honestly, if I could give this place 10 stars, I would. This park is, in my opinion, the BEST park in the Milwaukee County Park system. It is absolutely enormous, there are multiple tennis courts, picnic areas, bridges (hence the alternate name "7 Bridges", trails, and much more. I remember first learning about this park while I was still in high school and running cross country races. This was our 4 race of the year, and the first where our race times dramatically dropped every season. Naturally, I grew very fond of this place. Grant Park is legendary history to me and my childhood. I just moved back home after six years in Madison. First place I went to. Picnic area 5 and 6. Where a boy became a man, if you will. Still pristine even 50 years later. Seven Bridges are always welcoming. The main road into the picnic areas is terrible until you get to the golf course. Needs a repave with CONCRETE. What a hidden gem in Milwaukee county! Never knew Milwaukee county had this little beach that feels like you're on the Florida coast if you really close your eyes and pretend it's salt water. But no sharks! There's also Ferchs grill and Custard for me to order burgers, etc. even margaritas and taps! 38 amp seating with umbrellas overlooking Lake Michigan is a perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Of volleyball, nets and beach space but not quite enough parking on a nice day today, I had to park up the hill down the road and take a little walk down to the beach. read more

I love Grant Park! There are beautiful hiking trails and a nice beach. While hiking you will see many bridges, a creek, gorgeous lake views and maybe some wild life. One of my favorite times to hike around here is in Fall, the leaves look amazing! There is so much to do here for the whole family. There are many spots to have a family picnic or gathering, playgrounds, tennis courts, volleyball, soccer fields, and golfing. When I was young, my aunt took us ice skating here on some of the ponds. The Seven Bridges Trail in Grant Park is amazing. An oasis in the city! It's a short trail, but it's beautiful! I wish you didn't get to the gorgeous beach and Lake Michigan views so quickly, but you can add on a few detours if you want! The trail isn't marked (at least as far as we could tell), so there were a few times we wandered and ended up back where we started! But it was a lovely trail on a beautiful day! read more

Grant Park in the City of South Milwaukee is a well-kept park in the Milwaukee County Parks system with: - Soccer and Baseball Fields - Golf course - Tennis Courts - Up to date playground - Paved bike trail - Reservable Picnic areas - Seven Bridges Nature trails - Swimming beach (no lifeguards) The bike trail here connects uninterrupted all the way through Bay View. The golf course is popular, and the golf house also has fish fry on Fridays (call ahead to check availability). You can XX Ski on the golf course (and surrounding park areas) in the winter, although skiiers make their own trails. Picnic areas are reservable for a fee by calling Milwaukee County Parks, and there's a sandy beach here for swimming, if you're okay with no lifeguards being on duty. The crown jewel of Grant Park is the Seven Bridges nature trails- a system of bridges that go over the Oak Creek, and leads to Lake Michigan. It's good for the kids, but not wheelchair accessible, as either system of bridges has a steep stairway to the lower level. Recently the Parks system has been planting tree seedlings, and letting more of the mowed grass go wild. Seeing a fawn munch on that same grass when I visited this morning may mean they're onto something! I'm sure it will save the Parks money to not have to mow, and in years to come, those areas will be thriving with trees as the rest of Grant Park is. I grew up a block away from this great Park, and so I return as often as I can, to take my son to the Seven Bridges area, and to hike throughout Grant Park. read more

"Go-not knowing where. Bring-not knowing what. The journey is long; the way unknown." That's actually a favorite quote from a Russian fairy tale...not anything you'll find imprinted on the famous Seven Bridges arches (which despite riding through what felt like the whole park twice - I managed to miss.) I never know **exactly** what that quote means. That being said, sometimes there's a place and time that it just seems to fit. Today at Grant Park was one such time. So I took up biking this summer - the joints had stopped feelin' the jostling of all the pounding of the pavement I do in summer (both literally and figuratively with some of my nerves, I'm sure), aaaand practically speaking, it seems like every summer there are 248 (rough estimate) places around the city between maybe 1-6 miles in length -- too long to walk but too short to drive. But in addition to the beer gardens, running errands, and festivals rides, I made a list of specific places I wanted to make sure I hit on the bike and Grant park was definitely on the list. The southern end of the lake shore portion of the oak leaf trail winds through this huge woodsy, cliff-strewn somewhat remote feeling park, comin to its somewhat anti-climatic conclusion past an old-timey new England Victorian house that serves the golf course in the park. If you go a little further past & head left down a hill, you come to a cute little beach complete with dunes and a marina. (Be sure to face northwest with your beach towel -- the view is of the oak creek power plant in the opposite direction.) I've not seen everything here, as smaller dirt or pebble hiking trails lead off the trail what seems like every several feet (exaggerating slightly but that was how it felt.) It would take a while to explore all of them. There's quite a few trails that terminate at some spectacular cliffs overlooking the lake. The lake wraps around here, so looking north you really just see more parks and cliffs...the city is blocked off from view which seems to add to the feeling of being somewhere completely removed from the urban world. Another yelper commented this park was quiet enough to be enjoyable but people-strewn enough to not feel desolate or creepy and I'd say that's accurate. One of my favorite places in the city now. I had no idea there are so many beautiful parks along the south shore. 4.75 stars! (-.25 stars -- can someone fix up some of those really bumpy parts of the oak leaf trail here? Please? Very pretty little beach. Peaceful and sparsely visited during off season times. There's a beautiful forest preserve to hike through right adjacent to it. And even a golf course/club up the hill and around the corner for emergency bathroom needs in off season when the little pub and grill at the beach are closed. Nice, WARM foot and BODY rinse shower at the end. Fishing pier. Dogs are allowed on leashes so the Adventures of Hanso and Gretel continued. We will definitely be back. Oh! And a play ground for youngsters!!! read more

A beautiful park with a beach, hiking walking and bike trails, and one of my favorite places to eat lunch with Al Fresco. Al is my imaginary lunch friend. I'd say the only problem with the park is that it is popular, so it's a little difficult to find solitude but very possible after a short hike or walk. It's a pebbly, rocky beach, with some seriously aggressive flies and mosquitoes in hot summer months so not really ideal for sunbathing if that's what you're into, but good for all the other things one does at a beach. With sunblock and insect repellent it's a good place to read a book, wade into the Lake and freeze, or contemplate a sunrise. The park is hilly enough to make a hike exercise, and for a well used park it's pretty clean of litter. Plenty of parking but the way to get here is by bicycle. read more

A great beer garden to social distance in! It's a beautiful location with a BIG parking lot but it's also not too busy so it's easy to keep six feet from others. They provide hand sanitizer and sanitize the picnic tables after each party leaves and have clear practices to limit exposure. They've also got indoor bathrooms, always a plus! Lol read more

This is a Milwaukee County Park, a public park. Our taxes at work. It's a premier park. Grant Park is part of a Grand Necklace of parks throughout Milwaukee County that was established by the Socialists in the late 19th & early 20th centuries. Fredrick Law Olmstead who designed Central Park in New York City designed the Grand Necklace. The Socialist approach to life was that Lake Michigan belongs to the public. Not developers. There is always something new to discover on long walks through the park. It's a popular place for wedding photos. The beach, the marina, the golf course, the streams, the trails, the archery spot, the soccer fields, picnic pavilions, etc., etc. It is a huge park in a fantastic county. Exploring the other large parks in the necklace will take a good long time -- well spent. We get excellent value for our taxes. Love the beach and Ferches. Love that you can park right next to the beach as it reduces the amount of walking to get to the water. Great for families with the playground right next to the indoor restrooms and the concession stand. This is not your typical concession stand either. They have an outstanding selection of beer and ice cream creations as well as burgers, brats and other grill related options. read more

This is by far the top tier County Park in Milwaukee county. This park has a wonderful beach, 18 hole golf course, rustic lakefront, fishing, waterfall, seven bridges, countless rest areas and picnic areas and lots and lots of trails. Wonderful little oasis in the middle of the city. The trails in the trees that run right along side cliffs that go down to Lake Michigan provide many serene views to stop and Ponder life. There are wooden bridges that seem to be a bit more crowded and go down onto the beach. Once again pretty views but I prefer to be a bit more secluded in the trail system. It seems in addition to me walking my wonderful buddy Griffin, I saw other people using the trails to run and bike on. They are rugged for sure and provide a challanging bike ride. read more

Grant Park used to be way better in the 80s and 90s. I swear it was better maintained and a lot cleaner. This park is pretty big and has a beach. There are picnic areas, golf, playground, volleyball, trails, Ferch's Malt Shop, etc. I like that you can park right by the beach. It's easy access and not hard to find. The beach definitely needs more cleaning. Lately I have ran into way too many used condoms, used tampons and plastic garbage. I always wear shoes on the beach because I don't trust that there isn't something grosser around. Otherwise the sand is nice. It does not get rocky until you're in the water. Sometimes I find seaglass there and other times nothing. If this beach was cleaner, I'd rate it higher. read more

This review is for the beach, not the golf course. I don't golf so wasn't aware they even had a golf course. I was staying near MKE and looking for a place to access the lake just to hang out and stick my toes in the water. Harder than you'd think because although the lake is right there, a lot of the places facing it seem to be private homes, schools, businesses, other golf courses, etc. Someone had suggested I drive clear up to Bradford Beach which I guess is the main Milwaukee beach experience, but I did not have time for that. Then while driving around, I discovered there is beach access at Grant Park, and better yet it is a sand beach (not rocks like so many Great Lakes beaches), and even better yet it was uncrowded and quite clean! It's located in the middle of a forested park so if you get tired of the beach you can also commune with pretty trees. No lifeguard on duty, so I don't recommend this place for serious swimming. But if you just want to take your kids to paddle in the breakers and make sand castles, or play a game of beach volleyball, or have a cup of coffee while watching the sun rise or set (get your coffee in advance since I don't think there's concessions either), this beach is a good pick. I was there around noon on a summer weekend and there were just enough other people that I didn't feel all "alone in the strange wilderness", but not so many that I felt crowded or annoyed. Wish I had found it earlier so I would have had more than 10 minutes to spend before needing to go catch my plane home. read more

I love Grant Park. It's so nature-y in the the midst of urban suburbia. I really really enjoy hiking through the 'trails' as well as the properly defined trails and just getting lost in the woods (but not so lost I get all Blair Witch). It's great for a morning hike with a friend (don't forget brunch after, obvi). The beach is....well, it's a Milwaukee beach, so set your expectations properly from there. I like it much much better than the one in downtown, but that's a personal preference. This one is a little more raw - more nature and fewer speedos. There also tend to be fewer people here, but the beach is also much smaller. I find it great for a picnic or a plastic glass (bottle) of wine while gazing into the watery distance. You can just hears the waves crashing into the shore now can't you........ There is a food shop and there always seems to be people hanging around there so the food must be alright. I also see the remnants of bonfires up in the grass all over, so that might be allowed although I've never been there after dark. Grant Park is one of my favorite places in MKE. read more

I like this park. It has a great beach. I would only go to this park, if it was sunny out. Or I will be freezing if it was overcast. I love taking pictures here with friends. My husband did not like going anywhere in Milwaukee for fishing. However, the first time he came to Grant Park, he loves fishing in Milwaukee now. He absolutely loves fishing at the pier. I don't want to review this place cause I don't want a lot of people here. I don't want you to take my space in the great bike paths. Paths that stretch for miles with views of Lake Michigan that make you feel like you're relaxing at Pebble Beach. Where can you go through woods and a beach to a neighborhood to fishing dock! And theres plenty of elbow room so you're not running over healthy runners in front of you. oh and i hated hated this place but I might consider coming back...just because. read more

Grant Golf Course is in my opinion the nicest of the county courses. Wide open fairways for the most part with huuuggeeee greens. The greens have been slow every time I've come here so prepare yourself for three putts. I liked hole #17. It's a 100 yard par three with sand traps engulfing the entire green. You must be accurate on this hole otherwise good luck. The only thing stopping me from rating this place higher are the constant bugs flying around in your face (which is more annoying than it sounds) and the price (a little too expensive for what it's worth). read more

This place just got 1000% better. Ferch's Malt Shoppe just opened up a place here on Grant Beach Park. They have food, custard and beer.
